Deni63: I hope that day comes for all of us. The day when we can all look back on this stage in our lives as just a bad "blip".

Thanks Vivre, I'll look into it as soon as possible then. I thought I read somewhere on the site that you needed a script for it, guess I misread....

Patty: Many thanks for the song, it made my night

There is a great documentary that I have mentioned before on foodmatters.tv. It is all about our food supply and nutrition and how this leads to disease. You used to have to pay for the documentary by either watching it on the foodmatters.tv website or buying the DVD. I just found out that the documentary is now available through Netflix. If anyone is a Netflix member, it is a film worth seeing.

What is the name of the documentary you mentioned?

I have had Food, Inc. in my queue but it still has few more days until it's available on Netflix. Is that the one?

No, I want to see that one too and it is in my queue as well. I think it releases on Nov. 3. The one I am talking about is called Food Matters. They have just made it available to Netflix subscribers.

Bayyyy, I took Arimidex for about 5 months and went off it the end of August because I was experiencing depression (so not me..I might have the odd blue day here and there but never a daily thing EVER) and also a low level rage.  After being off the Arimidex for about 3 weeks...it was like the sun came out and the rain clouds went away...I was back!!  Spoke to my onc about it and while he supports whichever decision I make he did suggest trying Femera.  NOPE, not happening thank you very much.

I am working with my naturopath to get my body in balance.  Currently on I3C, B complex, Vit C, Vit D3 5,000-10,0000 iu, cal/mag, curcumin, fish oil, probiotics, prebiotics.  Lots and lots of veggies, some fish occassionally, and fruit.

So glad I found this site and in particular this thread because I have learned so much from all of these beautiful and strong women.

Thank you Carol for your answer! I3C is similar to DIM, isn't it? I've dealt with a lot of depression since tamoxifen but never blamed it on tamoxifen until some women on this board mentioned the connection. I would like to try some time off of it and see if it makes a difference. I know I'm not the same as I was before chemo and tamoxifen. Before I was highly energetic, pretty hyper, happy, and enthusiastic about life and just about everything(think golden retriever!) And that was after having a bilateral mast. Now for the past 2 years on tamox, I feel more like a bassett hound(no offense to bassett hounds)

Bayyyy, I just saw my naturopath yesterday and I mentioned the tiredness.  We went over my diet, mostly vegan.  I try to eat a protein every day, nuts, and hummus, beans, some fish, but apparently it's not enough.  Maybe you're not getting enough protein?  I just bought a whey protein powder from New Zealand.  Already today, I'm feeling more awake (and that's a good thing because it's my birthday ;)  I made it to 41, woo hoo!!!

Natural Gurls!  I haven't been following this thread in awhile, so I'm not sure if the topic of the H1N1 flu vaccine has already come up or if I should find another thread?  Already the fear is in overload where I live (outside of Toronto).

Thanks for all your tips listed here.  I added Iodine to my regime and kelp!  I'm a pill swallowing machine!

    Have a great day girls,

    love, light and health,

Bayyyy, I3C is similar to Dim. People tolerate each one differently. I'm taking dim but if I take 4 pills a day I don't feel so well. I am thinking of switching to myomin because I'm post men. I was on tamox for two weeks at half the dose and I was so depressed and felt horrible in all areas of my body. I felt like my uterus was going to fall out and it hurt whenever I sat down! All this in just two weeks Yell. So my dr gave me a script for Aromasin. I came home and threw it away!!!!! I don't want to feel like I'm ninety until I am ninety! I love the analogy with the dogs!

I just read in a mag about this:http://www.sciencedaily.com/videos/2007/0907-pain_free_mammogram.htm

I3C is a precursor to DIM, meaning that I3C "turns into" DIM in the body.  Based on some of the things I have read, it sounds to me like DIM might be the better of the two although I am still researching.  Also, some of the things I have read indicate that DIM might be better for peri and post menopausal women..post would be me.  When I see go for my next naturopath visit in 3 weeks I will be asking about switching over to DIM.

Hey Christine, this whole H1N1 in Toronto (I live in Georgetown) is really driving me nuts. Overload is right.

    Blessings

Is the iodine something you take internally or so you paint it on to absorb through the skin?

My onc said "yes" to regular flu shot and "no" to H1N1 shot FWIW.

Purple... I've gone traditional on everything thus far and have decided, after only two months, to say "no" to Femara.  I just can't convince myself that wringing my entire system dry of estrogen is a good thing.  Therefore, I'm in the process of having all sorts of levels tested.  I'm changing my diet, taking supplements, and back to exercising.

As far as the energy, any thoughts on B12 liquid?  A friend, who has had ovarian cancer, recommended I put a bit under my tongue every morning.

Mom_of_boys...I felt the same way about the whole estrogen thing...can it really be good to suppress/block the estrogen.  Me thinks not.  Another reason for me why I decided, enough was enough.

I use B12 every day.  However, I am not a great sleeper - never have been and it has only gotten worse since menopause - so while I really am not finding that the B12 is giving me more energy perhaps it is keeping me from feeling even more tired than I already am.

Thinking first and foremost of Lorraine (Fairy) this morning.  We natural girls have you and your surgeon covered in pray and positive thoughts for an absolutely perfect surgery!

Lucy ~  I like the way your integrative MD thinks!  Is he/she in SB?  And thanks for reminding me about the Life Extension Brand.  It's rarely on the shelf, but might be worth ordering.

Jan/Purple-Me ~  I have really pressed both my local onc and PCP to explain to me why Femara (which I could not tolerate to the point of having a passing out episode from it) was any better for me than 13C or DIM, and neither one could answer that question.  In fact, when confronted to explain it to me, both admitted they could not.  My PCP has begged me to try Evista (for bone strengthening + unapproved but claimed bc prevention  benefit), but my onc said it might do the same thing to me as Femara did.  I have yet to take it up with my UCLA onc, but for now it's I3C (along with all the other supplements & lifestyle changes, including walking 3 to 4 miles/day) for me.

Christine ~  Why a protein powder from NZ?  Just wondering which one it is and what you like about it.

Someone mentioned kelp above.  Be sure to thoroughly check out the source for that.  Others here have reported that it's frequently contaminated, and I stopped buying it for that reason and went to Iodoral.

Bayyyy ~  Love the dog analogy.  Rather than i.d. myself that way, I think I'll ask a couple of people who know me well how they see me.  It might be revealing.  And it's such a great way to communicate our energy level/moods.  We certainly want you to feel like a golden retriever again!   Deanna

    Hi Deanna:
I did not know that about the kelp, yeesh!  The brand I have is Nature's Way.  It's a Norwegian Kelp.

The protein powder is from "Progressive-Harmonized Protein".  ND recommended as it is sourced proteins from cattle raised without hormones.  Supposed to be the cleanest and purest.  Tested for contaminants, including pesticides and pcb's.

I was also told to try castor oil for some of my post chemo joint aches (feet mostly).  Also, apparently it is good to apply castor oil soaked cloth to the mast scar.  Stimulates lymphatic system.  I have yet to try it.

Fairy, now be-nippled, hope you are well!

    Hi all,

ok, after 3 days of research, I have finally ordered a Jack LaLanne Juicer. It seemed to be the best of all the ones that I have viewed. Any body have one of these? Or have any of you heard good/bad about this Juicer? Thanks Sisters.

Oh by the way, today, I'm feeling very much like my Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Basil!  Must be the protein powder, hahah.  In recent weeks I've been very much like a pug dog.  Wheezing and coughing with a cold.

Jenny, I opted for the the 3 horsepower BlendTec.  I used to juice, now I blend smoothies.

Blending breaks out the phyto nutrients in berries eg.  Most of the phytochemicals are in the seeds. Sorry I don't know much about the Juicer brand you mentioned.  I don't use mine much anymore.

Christine: HAPPY BIRTHDAY AND MAY YOU HAVE MANY MORE!!!!!

Fairy: I hope your nips are beautiful and you are ok. With my very weird sense of humor, instead of  nipples I would have clocks, buttons, daisies, tires, oh the list is endless!!! Since I have a "winker" I think I will have eyelashes tattooed on!

    Have a wonderful day ladies!

I am not going to bother to post this on all the controversial Suzanne Somers threads because there are just too many people who prefer to gossip about her, rather than look for the facts. But I know that all you natural girls are interest in learning as much as you can. So I found this section on You tube that has several links to her talks, as well as other doctor about biodentical hormones. When you get a chance, watch as many as you can. Lots of interesting information:

Lorraine had surgery yesterday so she and her nips are recovering :)

Lots of posts - I haven't been on in a while.  Thanks for the SS clips, I missed the interview w/ LK.  Re finding an ND, look hard, just like Oncs, there are a lot of quacks (I learned the hard way).  SS has info at the end of her books but still look for reviews.  You can as a compounding pharmacist for recs and then search their bios.

Hope all are swell.  I had a tx today and am tired tired tired.  Cheers!

hey lovely ladies!! here I am.......typing slooooowly!! All went well this morning, have two new nipples, it will be a year tomorrow since my bi-lat, so the timing on this, although accidental, very appropriate. I am all bandaged up, so can't see them, plus the PS also took out some skin on my right foob, because she knew it was bugging me (it was a little larger than my left). So hopefully all will heal well! I can't tell you how touched I am that you were all sending prayers and vibes, I could feel them, I felt all warm and fuzzy this morning going in (could have been the drugs, but I prefer to think otherwise!). I love you all so much, it sucks that here is where we met, but so grateful to "know" you all, such awesome, beautiful, smart women!! such a joy!!

I will check in tomorrow once I feel a bit more "with it"!!

    Love
