Traditional medicine will pay credence to things like acupunture and yoga as adjunctive therapies because this will not upset the status quo or interfere with the business of cancer. However, when it comes to accepting that things like curcumin and iscador might be effective chemotherapies, they close the door. If word got out that there were natural solutions to their drugs, they would lose too much money.  So they will continue to accept some things like acupuncture, and they will continue to ignore any case studies that prove cancer is cured by anything herbal.

Back to the sprouting. I finally got around to reading my sprouting book. I have not given it a try yet, but no where in THE SPROUTING BOOK, by Ann Wigmore, does she mention soaking the seeds in chlorine. I just would not do that. Chlorine is a carcinogen and I know that the chlorine I inhaled while cleaning my bathroom a few years before my dx, was a major cause of my bc. Wigmore does mention that the sprouts get hairs that may look like mold. She also says it is important to use fresh water (I will filter mine) and to change the water frequently.

My new onc is awesome. Because of Licensing and liability she is careful not to recommend anythingnot approved by the FDA. But she phrases things like " What have you read about Turmeric?" Then she will grin. I am sure her intention is to plant a seed in my head to go look at that topic. This is why I love her unlike those first to bozos that I had.

I used to sprout but I've found I much prefer the taste of microgreens.

Here's a link to a system that overcomes some of the slime/hair issues. I know they have sprouting instructions on this site somewhere, too:

Merilee-It is wonderful that you have a great onc at last. Isn't it sad though that they cannot really speak their mind? Why we can't have a more integrative approach to treatments is beyond me. We have to keep fighting for it.

Well this week I CELEBRATED another birthday. Funny how getting another year older does not bother me any more. My dear son came over and brought me a salad for lunch. We had a nice chat and he told me how lucky he felt that I was his Mom. What a wonderful gift he gave me. He put me through all the hoops as a teenager, so seeing him mature into a successful and kind young man has been so rewarding. The tough thing about motherhood is that it takes so darn long to see those seeds turn into flowers. But enjoying that beautiful bloom, is so worth the wait, after all the years of feeding and watering those young plants. So I wanted to give you all this gift:

It is called The Gift of an Ordinary Day.

May you all enjoy this ordinary day. (have a hankie ready)

Funny I was just thinking this morning about the hidden blessings that have come from my experience with BC

This is one of the silver linings that are often hard to notice. I am grateful for everyday now let alone birthdays. Also, I have learned to take care of myself divinely rather than adequately. I truely demonstrate  self love for the first time in my life.

Happy Birthday, vivre!  So glad your son made your day so special.  And thanks for the very touching video.  She obviously hasn't gotten to the moving back home stage yet!    D.

Same here Merilee. I have had so many blessings from this bc that I would never have had. I am so grateful for those blessings everyday. The more I focus on the blessing the better I feel!!!

Has anyone, other than dear Jenny, had a pet scan?

Everyone, please look at this. I sent it to the clinics in my area for posting.

    This is long overdue.

Patty, I had a PetScan prior to starting chemo.  It was fairly quick and easy (except for the stress).  They do give you a small amount of contrast drug by IV beforehand, and they made me sit very quietly in a recliner (couldn't even use my cell phone or read) for about 1/2 an hour before they did the actual scan, which probably took 10 mins.  Feel free to PM me if you have other concerns.   D.

Patty, I had a PET scan.  I don't think I remember any special instructions either, although I am pretty sure I had to fast for it...The thing I remember most about it was that I had to carry a card for 24 hours afterward that stated I was radioactive!  That was kind of freaky!

Thanks Deanna! Did you have to fast?

Thanks Suzanne - A card???? That is very freaky!!!!Surprised Did you have to pin it to your boob, lol?

Not so crazy to carry the letter or card for 24 hours.  In the NYC area, some of the unmarked cars or tollbooths have radiation detectors.  There have been cases of people being stopped and held for questioning before the hospitals got smart and started handing out the letters.

Patty, I didn't remember fasting when Suzanne mentioned it, but now that I think about it, that place had a basket of granola bars in the changing area, which I thought was considerate at the time, so I probably did.  I had mine first thing in the a.m., so it wasn't any big deal if I did.  But I know I didn't get anything about being radioactive !  (LOL)   D.

Totally agree about this. I don't even use tap water because of the chlorine in it. And yes, I agree the key is to rinse them at least twice a day. I've never had any problems at all with mold or anything.

Patty, I haven't had a pet scan but I wish you all the best for it... as with everything else we go through, I bet going through it isn't nearly as bad as the worried anticipation beforehand!

    Happy birthday vivre!

And hello to everyone else.  I've been reading things elsewhere and haven't logged in here for 2 whole weeks.  One book I read last month was "Confessions of an Economic Hitman" by John Perkins.  It's not about health care specifically, but indirectly I think it paints the picture of why things are the way they are.  Perkins story is about his career in an international corporation where his role as an 'economist' was to grossly overestimate a developing country's needs for infastructure to build electrical systems.  Then the country would borrow heavily to pay for the projects.  The projects would be built by American contractors, thus lining even more American bank accounts.  Then the country would eventually be unable to repay the loans, at which point the country's natural resources fall into the control of the greedy people who concocted the inflated loan in the first place.  It happens over and over because the leaders of the countries in question have resources that the corporations want to control.  The economic hitmen coerce compliance in some cases, and when the coercion didn't work, the 'jackals' would enter the scene and use stronger tactics.

The examples in the book  depict the increasingly fuzzy lines between corporations and government.  It doesn't take a genius to envision the same principles working in the medical world -- the people with the money hold the power, and anyone lower on the food chain is expected to toe the line or suffer the consequences, the consequences being labelled a quack, yanking medical licenses, or simply closing the doors to research dollars that many doctors need to do thier work.

I also read Food Inc.  Also a very good read, derived the movie of the same name.  Each chapter is from a different author.  Many aspects of food are addressed -- growing, harvesting, consuming, organic farming, farming with pesticides, food aid to developing countries that consists of 'golden rice' which is a genetically modified crop derived from rice and daffodils.   I don't have much experience with growing my own vegetables, but dang, I'm motivated to try after reading this book.

Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone. It was actually last Monday, but hey every day is a celebration around here! Loved the balloons anom. I am especially fond of hearts you know.

Things are going well for the prevention convention March 12-14. My bud, LauraGTO, has designed a beautiful flyer for us, which I am hoping she will post, because I never figured out that photo bucket thing. We will have the details on the front page of our website, which is still in the works, but you can register through the site after tomorrow, so I will post a link or send you all one.

The whole theme is total wellness, mind body and soul

Friday evening will be about fun fitness. I have a guy coming to talk about my favorite exercise-rebounding and then we will have some Zumba!

Saturday will be all educational seminars after a morning yoga class. I have some great speakers on Thermography, nutrition, healing energy, and my compounding pharmacist will talk about iodine and hormone balance. I am trying to get a doctor to speak with him. Mine is out of town. Then we have the comedy show on Saturday night. On Spirit Sunday, we will have a prayer service led by a dear friend, who is now a deacon and has studied in the Vatican. The rest of the morning will be an interactive panel forum with TaiChi and talks about finding balance through Chinese medicine.

Remember if you share a room, it will only cost about $50 a night, plus food. I hope to see a lot of you there!

Vivre, your event is going to be AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! I sooo wish I could go!!!

I also read Food Inc. Also a very good read, derived the movie of the same name. Each chapter is from a different author. That's exactly my reaction after seeing "The World According to Monsanto" (I need to read/watch Food Inc.; I know it will reinforce everything I've been finding out about our food industry!). Until last year, I thought I couldn't even keep a houseplant alive (and I couldn't!)... but somehow, I was able to grow herbs and tomatoes. Now that I know how "polluted" our food supply is, it's just not an option NOT to grow a vegetable garden. I can either pay top dollar for organic produce shipped from all over the country (which is getting more and more expensive), or I can spend a few dollars on organic seeds and have months of fresh-picked, 100% organic vegetables that I know aren't GM or sprayed with who-knows-what chemicals.

Hi everyone, I have a question about DIM. I was taking Natures Way DIM plus but noticed that it only contained 25% DIM. I therefore ordered the Source Naturals brand from VitaCost ( contains 100% DIM) and received it yesterday. To my surprise I found it was an orangey colour! Shouldn't it be green? ( my Natures Way were) or am I just worrying for no reason. Does anyone else use this brand? I ordered three bottles of it so I hope it is OK!!! Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks!

    Happy Belated b-day Vivre!

I'm back from my vacances in Disney.  I see my Naturo on Wed. to pick up the iscador and to get my D results after loading on 10,000 units daily for 6 months.  I'm now down to 5000.  We shall see...

Anybody have questions about Iscador that I can throw at my Naturopath?

Looking forward to what he has to say, he's also looked into zometa for prevention for me so I'll report back on that as well.

    Happy Weekend!

Welcome back Althea. We missed you. Where have you been hangin out lately?

Thanks again to all of you for the birthday wishes. I really appreciate it.

LetItBe-I can't wait to hear more about the iscador. I hope that you will start a discussion on it at my new site.

Springtime, I am getting my emails out with the links so keep checking. I am so glad you are coming! Let me know if you want to stay a couple of extra days. I might have a room to spare. Or you can stay in the city if you want to be where the action is. Metromix.com often has some links to Chicago hotel deals. If you do this, I will try to meet you in the city and give you a tour. Same for anyone of the rest of you out of towners. Just dress for polar bear weather. March can be a bit mean here, but then again, sometimes it is beautiful. Stick around for St. Patricks day and you can see them dye the Chicago River green.
