Hi Terri - I have taking Nature' Plus Ultra-Zyme. I have not had digestive issues since I started taking it. My alternative doc recommended Ortho Molecular CDG Estro Dim for me. It has dim, I3C, calcium d-glucate and e all in one pill. It is very expensive of course. I bought it from him but I also looked online and found it there. Believe it or not my doctor's office was cheaper than buying it online! He told me since no one can say which is better dim or I3c why not take both. I hope this helps you.
Love, Patty

Can I have your opinion on this DIM... I'd like to switch from Nature's Way to this but I'm not sure about the "BroccoSinolate"...

Hi, gals ~ Can anyone give me a quick course on Omega 3s, Omega 6s, and Omega 9s? I've taken an Omega 3 supplement on & off for many years, and regularly since my bc dx. I also use ground flax in my yogurt. So... am I missing something by not taking an Omega 6 (from flax) supplement and/or an Omega 9 (from borage oil, I think, although I haven't the foggiest idea what that is...)? When I went to buy an Omega 3 yesterday, I was overwhelmed at the choices -- some of which included Omega 6 and/or Omega 9. Omega 3-6-9 (one product) seems to be the newest offering. Anyway, it was sooo confusing, I left without buying anything, until I understand it better.
Related somewhat to the above question, I've also seen articles recently on the importance of lignans to bc prevention, and have wondered if supplements (e.g. Brevail) that emphasize lignans are safe if we're ER+. Or are they ever too estrogenic if our bc was highly ER+??? I just emailed my integrative doctor about this, but sometimes I think I learn more here than anywhere! Deanna

Hi dlb823.
My understanding is that in general most people get way to much omega 6 in their diet vs omega 3. Found this re omega 6 and 3 http://www.vegsoc.org/info/omega3.html
My naturopath has me on an Omega 3 liquid supplement. It is at home in the fridge but I am pretty sure it does not contain Omega 6.
I must do some more research on the Omega 9...
Oh....my brain hurts!

Omega 6 is the devil!!! It is not a good fat. You do not want to supplement with it as although our bodies do not produce it, it is in so much of what we eat that any more would be detrimental. I know nothing about Omega 9 but it is the Omega 3 fats that are so good for us. You get it from certain cold water fish, salmon, sardines and anchovies.

I've heard many things lately about the benefits of colon/ liver/gallbladder cleanses. I've never done any cleanses but I'm sure I should be doing something. It just always seemed like such a bother and then some of them have you fasting etc. which I don't think I could do for more than a day or 2. I read about Dr Natura Colonix and ToxinsOut program. Has anyone heard of these products and do you have any others that you might recommend? Are the herbs in these products safe for us BC ER+ girls?

I did two cleanses in 08. At the time a woman was here who was using products from Dr Schultze and she really liked his products. He has one product called superfood, and I don't know how or why but the nausea that had plagued me since my chemo in 05 immediately stopped. Unfortunately, I didn't get such dramatic results from other things, but I did try his colon cleanse. He's very into the vegan diet, and at that time I wouldn't have even known how to be a vegan. So I just took the products and didn't follow the rest of the instructions. It definitely cleaned me out!
Four months later I did his liver/gall bladder cleanse and mostly followed the fasting instructions. At that time he had a bunch of newsletters on his website and I read nearly every one. He has good educational material that includes just plain ol simple anatomy, a topic that never interested me in school. I find it helpful to have a working knowledge of how our digestive tract works. He emphatically insists that you want to make sure everything moving through at the proper speed before tackling any other health issue. Plus, the commitment to quality ingredients seems paramount and sincere. www.herbdoc.com
More recently, I've been using a lot of recipes from Dr Cabot's book the Liver Cleansing Diet. I've been tweaking my diet literally for years now, making better choices all the time, yet NOTHING would melt any pounds off me. I've used Dr Cabot recipes mainly for dinner menus for 2+ months now. I've lost 10 pounds and I'm not so dagnabbit tired all the time. When you detox, though, remember, toxins will be released into the blood stream and you want them escorted to the exit asap. If there's any delay, the toxins will just get reabsorbed. This is why starting with cleansing the colon is so important.

You want the methylcobalamin B12. Jarrow makes a 5,000 mcg losenge. But I would take extra folic acid.

Thank you! I thought that was right! I will order the methylcobalamin B-12. I'm usually so careful with my re-orders...I don't know how I missed this one and ordered the wrong thing.

I am doing a colon cleanse right now with herbs from janesherbs.com
I have met Jane and she knows her stuff. She has been researching the combos of herbs for decades, and you can call her with any questions you might have during the cleanse. In fact, I just got off the phone with her because the cleanse was making me lethargic. She told me to up my dosage because I am not eliminating enough. Her capsules contain, black walnut, wormwood, hyssyp, skullcap, etc. No chemicals!
It is used to rid toxins, kill parasites, worms candida. When your doo doo starts to float, you know you are getting results. You also should be going about 3 times per day, which I find hard to believe, but I heard this in many places. I don't think I eat enough to go that much!

Althea and Vivre: Thanks for your input. It's so hard trying to find just the right product and there are so many out there to choose from. I've checked out both sites and will do a little more in depth reading this evening. I don't know why I didn't think of doing a cleanse sooner! For years, I just used "to go" once or twice a week! I credited the constipation to my being hypothyroid. I guess I never really paid attention to it and just thought it was "normal" for me. When I think of it now, after having been a part of this thread and reading so much on nutrition and health in general for the past year and a half I must have been in a fog the past 20 years! Going poop is so important to every cell, every function in your body - ridding yourself of toxins. No wonder I got BC, that and about 100 other things I must have been doing wrong all my life! I'm almost afraid of doing the cleanse for fear of what I'll see coming out of me (sorry to be so graphic).
I've been feeling bloated lately and who knows what's going on there..... I attributed that to menopause, but it could be that I just need to be cleansed of all these toxins.
Thanks again for your input and I'll let you know how the cleanse goes! Well, not every detail...lol

hahaha Terri, I can totally relate. Until I started "getting healthy" I would refer to bowel movements as "getting lucky" (not in mixed company, of course!) It is really something what one considers "normal"... people walking around sick and in pain and saying "that's just the way it is/I am". It is beautiful how you start to peel that away, layer by layer, when you start making healthful choices.

Do the antiparasite herbs give you vivid dreams or is it just me? BTW, I'm seeing biege shreds in my stool. Sorry if this is TMI but the herbs are really getting rid of some unfamiliar stuff.

Deanna, Thanks for the article. I did buy modified citrus pectin and keep forgetting to take it. I will get back on board!
I bought my citrus pectin based on the following info about using citrus pectin before and after cancer surgery to avoid metastasis
www.lef.org/protocols/cancer/cancer_surgery_01.htm

Deanna, that article is really thought provoking.
Luna: where did you buy your modified citrus pectin?
Hope everyone has a good 4th.

I bought my MCP at lifeextension.org. You have to buy a membership but I feel like it was worth it. With your first order you get some magazines and a great book about diseases and treatment and prevention. By the way since we have been talking poo, MCP will help a lot with getting you regular!
Has anyone tried the buffered c detox. I am so leery of herbs, I was hoping the c works for detoxing all things as well.
Happy 4th all, Patty

Mandy, I'm not sure where I got it, I order from several places. I may have gotten it from lifeextension.org as I am a member and order a lot from them.
The brand I have is Pectasol-C Modified Citrus Pectin by EcoNugenics. I just looked on the Life Extension site and for non members it is $99.95 and for members it is $74.96. Each scoop contains 5 grams of Modified Citrus Pectin , 420 mg of Potassium , 3 grams of dietary fiber , 180 mg of sodium and 4 carbs.

The only question I have about citrus pectin and was thinking of calling the company....does anyone know???? Since we should be avoiding grapefruit, do I need to worry about whether there is or how much grapefruit pectin is in this stuff?
My understanding is that grapefruit retards metabolism of estrogen and thus leaves more of it in your body...so for us ER+ girls...we should avoid grapefruit....several articles about this when you google "grapefruit breast cancer".
Has anyone already asked LE or the manufacturer if grapefruit is or is not a primary source of citrus pectin and if that matters? Or should I put that on my to do list?

Hello everyone. My name's Irene and I've recently been diagnosed with metaplastic breast cancer, a form of IBC. I have not started treatment yet. Scheduled to begin July 26th.I'm investigating alternative therapies. Other than a cancerous tumour I have a skookum immune system, have never been ill in my full life, so I'm looking at using alternative diets and lifestyle thast may have been a contributing factor. Read Anti Cancer by David Servan-Schreiber, MD, PhD, and all of Suzanne Sommers stuff and and and... it's making me look at alternatives. So I'm going to watch the threads here to help me in my quest.
Have a great Holiday Weekend.

I just posted a request (in the Comments, Suggestions, and Features Request folder) for a Breast Cancer Prevention forum and a Breast Cancer Politics & Activism forum -
"There are topics related to breast cancer that I would like to discuss, but there is currently no appropriate forum to start these discussions in. It would be helpful to have a Breast Cancer Prevention forum, which ideally would include a Breast Cancer and the Environment subforum. Many environmental toxins have been linked to breast cancer and I would like a forum in which to discuss this, share information about news & studies related to this, information about how to avoid toxic chemicals, etc. [...]"
Please go to the thread and share your thoughts, if having a forum like this is something that interests you. Maybe if ENOUGH of us request it, we can make it happen!

FYI ~
http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2010/06/100629131316.htm
I very much like your suggestion, Raili, about a bc prevention forum, and I hope BCO will agree. It seems like there's a ton of information that could be covered in it, and many who don't venture into an "alternatives" section could benefit. I'd be a bit surprised if they encourage an activist forum, but we'll see. It's another excellent idea. Deanna

Thanks, Deanna!
I know that BCO is not likely to want an activism forum. But I wonder what will happen if I start posting activism topics in other folders...the topics would clearly be off-topic...but would have no appropriate folder to be moved to. Would they just get deleted??
For example - I've been reading lately about how BPA, which is linked to breast cancer, is commonly in cash register paper, which means that even if every food item in your grocery cart is meticulously chosen and free of BPA, merely the act of going through the check-out line contaminates your food. If the cashier, who has been touching the receipt paper all day, touches your organic, locally-grown apple, there may be BPA on it. If you take the receipt, there may be BPA on your hands. I would love to start a thread about how to find out which receipt paper is BPA-free and how we can encourage our local stores to start using the BPA-free paper. Currently, there is NO forum on BCO for which this topic would fit in...so...are we just "not allowed" to talk about it??
0 -
Maybe we could define what activism means more so people would have a better idea?
You mean, information activism, alerting people to stuff like BPA? That seems like a great idea for a forum. I'm slowly resconstructing my pantry's contents from things I've learned here.
Thanks!

I have been on a detox diet for two weeks. No white flour, no sugar, no corn, no tomatoes, no citrus. My congestion went away and when it did I became very sensitive to smells. I can smell the insecticide on the skin of apples, tomatoes and melon. I now wash smooth skinned fruit with soap and water! If I don't I can taste the chemicals. If you try this be sure to rinse thoroughly.
Before this diet, I thought organically grown was just hype. Now I look for organically grown fruits and vegetables. I have my own garden but things aren't ripe yet.
