I had the 3 phase whole body bone scan done on Friday. Now to hope that all is ok..or at least have an answer to my hip problem.  I have high anxiety for the athrogram on Tuesday. I have heard it is very painful...I should start a thread and see what my sisters here say. When I asked the technician how it will be she just said... a lil uncomfortable. I hate when they lie...I wanted to say to her..just say it!! it's gonna hurt like the dickens!! Well, hopefully a couple of xanax and a lot of Hail Mary's will help.

Lots of snow here. This area got about 8 inches, I think. My neighbor is digging me out, I hope I can get to chruch today.

    Have a great day!

    hugs and prayers

Barbe, your PCP fired you!?  LOL

Candie, be praying and thinking about you on Tues.  Another fun test.

I have to laugh at doctors when they say...don't take so-and-so.  Look at the list of things that can happen to us taking prescription meds.  I take Lipitor and other drugs (no illegal ones).  Talk about hard on the liver.  Read all the SEs these drugs can cause and it'll scare the dickens out of you.  We don't hear docs say DON'T TAKE THOSE PRESCRIPTION DRUGS.   THEY CAN KILL YOU!  (a Chiropractor may say that)  The sad thing is doctors don't know one thing about alternative meds.  Well, most don't.  They don't have time.  Just like Barbe's PCP accusing her of drinking alcohol like alcohol is the only thing that can damage our liver.

Tumeric is good for a lot of things.  Even the liver.  Here's a somethng I googled about it.  I searched under "Tumeric for liver."  I remember Constantine (Edge) saying that Curcumin had hepatic protection...something like that.

    http://blog.worldvillage.com/health/benefits_of_using_turmeric_for_liver_detox.html

One of the ways that the liver eliminates toxins is to make bile. Thus, an increased bile flow is beneficial in liver detox. Turmeric helps increase bile flow making it a liver cleanser that could rejuvenate the liver cells and recharges their capability to break down toxins.

Turmeric is enshrined in Ayurvedic medicine as the king of spices. The bitter spice helps cleanse the liver, purify the blood, and promote good digestion and elimination. It possesses powerful anti-inflammatory properties but none of the unpleasant side effects of anti-inflammatory drugs. It has been used for skin cleansing, colour enhancement and food preservation.

The principal chemical component of turmeric is curcumin. In addition to its liver detox use, curcumin has powerful antioxidant action that combats viral infection, cancer, and arthritis. It stimulates the gallbladder for bile production, and scavenges free radicals. The whole herb turmeric contains lower concentrations of curcumin, and is used when healing requires the application of volatile oils.

As herbal treatment for cirrhosis of the liver, curcumin accelerates the liver detox process. Curcumin prevents alcohol and other toxins from being converted into compounds that may be harmful to the liver. It can reverse the adverse effects of excessive iron consumption on the liver.

Before you use turmeric for liver detox, make sure to consult your healthcare practitioner. Those with congestive heart disease whose cause has not yet been identified are discouraged from using turmeric or curcumin. Turmeric should not be used for long periods of time, because it may cause stomach distress. It is not recommended if you have painful gallstones, obstructive jaundice, acute bilious colic, or extremely toxic liver disorders.

Jo , thought you might find this interesting about grape juice....and everyone else, too

Drinking 100 percent purple grape juice can reduce or even reverse memory loss, according to research by the University of Cincinnati.

In a study led by Dr. Robert Krikorian, 12 men and women between the ages of 75 and 80 were divided into two groups. All had been diagnosed with early memory loss. One group drank about two glasses of 100 percent Concord grape juice daily for twelve weeks while the other group drank a placebo matched for calories.

The participants were given memory tests, such as memorizing lists and placing items in a specific order, at regular intervals during the three months. "While there were no significant differences between the groups at baseline, following treatment, those drinking Concord grape juice demonstrated significant improvement in list learning," Krikorian said in a statement. "In addition, trends suggested improved short-term retention and spatial (nonverbal) memory.

"These results with Concord grape juice are very encouraging," he said. "A simple, easy-to-incorporate dietary intervention that could improve or protect memory function, such as drinking Concord grape juice, may be beneficial for the aging population."

Other studies have shown that purple grapes have powerful health benefits. One Vanderbilt University study found that people who drank grape juice more than three times a week lowered their risk of developing Alzheimer's by 76 percent.

Additional studies have shown grapes to have heart healthy benefits including keeping arteries supple and blood pressure low. Researchers believe the benefits in Concord grape juice come from antioxidants in the grape's skin and fruit.

    Hi

Well, the arthrogram was not half as bad as I thought it would be. The Dr that did the injection was very kind and nice and it all worked out fine. since my hip was on an xray the whole time he was doing the injection, just by that alone he can see that I certainly didn't need a new hip.

The MRI was next and now I am waiting to hear the results ..whether it is a tear or not. I took 2 xanax too so I was falling asleep in the MRI.

Well, thanks for the encouragement and prayers. I'll let you know when I hear anything.

    hugs and prayers

Oh Candie! Already that is such good news. Can you imagine going through a hip replacement for no good reason!!! Surprised You would have still been in pain possibly....??

You are still in my daily thoughts (you too JO!) I bought grape juice yesterday!

Candie, so very happy to hear the good news.  Although we were excited about you getting a new hip boy was that way off.  Who wants to have surgery for an unnecessary hip?  I'm so glad you found the doc and your primary was on top of things.

Barbe, there's lots of good stuff  on the internet about curcumin (tumeric).  Just google it.

JO, hope you are feeling better.  I hurt my leg or knee big time yesterday when I sat on the floor to finishing my packing.  We went to our dd's for Christmas and came back yesterday.  Anyway, when going down I did something.  Boy oh boy did it it.  I took three Advil before getting in the car for the drive home.  It's much better today.  So, I'm hoping it's working itself out.

I love, love purple grape juice. Heck, I love grapes.  We used to buy grape juice now and then.  I'll make sure to buy some when I go to the store.

Candie, when I clicked on this thread sometime back, I remember how very scared you were.  I had no intention of "announcing" on this board that I had progression (not mets..LOL).  I felt so badly for you and some others that I decided to post about it.  I AM SO THRILLED that you can now relax and KNOW there is NO cancer.  Now, it's time to deal with the REAL problem.  And no hip replacement....that's awesome!  Tumeric is a good antioxidant and also good for inflammation.  You can start at the link I'm providing from MD Anderson.  Then do some googling. Wink

Going to be getting an appointment with an orthopaedic surgeon as my x-rays were finally looked closely at. I have arthritis in an unusual place in my hip joint, but my doctor said that they can put a melamine plate in. I'm kind of excited! Do I have to give back my handicapped license plate?

    How's everyone else doing?

Candie that's wonderful news about your hip - I'm so relieved for you! My right hip started to feel so much better a week after the cortisone shot (last month).........I still have tightness and have to be careful how I sit for long periods. My ortho doc gave me a script for rehab - I haven't called yet (due to the latest infection/fever problems that happened right after the New Year).........but I need to call soon. He wants me on an exercise bike and elliptical 3x/week - with a physical therapist. I've never gone to one - my entire life I've avoided machines; my exercise has always been lap swimming and aerobics. I've given up on aerobics for several years, so I'm looking forward to getting accustomed to the machines...........who knows, maybe eventually I'll join a spinning class (I'll just have to wear ear plugs - they play such loud music in their race to nowhere!)

Hope everyone had a wonderful New Years!

JO, always scary with new pain. Please keep us posted....

No appointment with ortho yet, no surprise there. But forgot to tell you the doctor said my chest/rib pain is costochondritis, now that they've ruled out heart. Makes sense with my fibromyalgia/arthritis history...sigh. I've doubled up on my Celebrex again even though it's bad for my blood pressure AND kidneys!

    Hi

Just thought I would check in with you. Myhip has been slowly feeling better. I am finding that my sitting at work does not help. So I get up and walk around every hour. I have a Dr appointment on the 18th to see what he suggests.

Swimangel, I always heard that water classes are very good for aches and pains. When I had minor knee surgery 2 years ago I took a water class afterward and boy did it help. I plan on doing again for my hip as soon as I can save the money for it.

Jo, I know for myself, if I sleep wrong I could spend all that day in pain. Lately my shoulder has been acting up..I attribute it to not sleeping right. And the fingers on my right hand are painful and stiff. Wow, if it's not one thing it's another. This new ortho surgeon  is gonna think I am a mess..lol. Unless this is all from arimidex!!!

Barbe, what is costochondritits??? Sounds like somehting that is annoying and painful but what is it?

    hugs and prayers

Me too JO, Hi again I am back too!

I have had the hip pain that I have visited about as well and now upper scapula pain for a month.

I had a Thoracic MRI 2 weeks ago and got the all clear, and now because pain persists I have to have bone scan tomorrow. Please keep me in your thoughts an prayers tomorrow.

I really believe all will be fine, but one never knows and when I do get the all clear I am going on a mission to find out what we can do to beat these horrible pains from the Hormone therapy, because it is messing with my life BIGTIME. Not only do I hurt all the time but then I go on the downward spiral of worrying about bc again. I HATE THIS rollercoaster. There have to be some answers to help us and trust me I am like a dog on a bone looking for answers. So WHEN i get the all clear tomorrow I will be all over looking for relief.   .

mmm5, I agree about the constant worry! I'm not on hormonals or chemo (to blame) so it's been a stressful time getting my "all clear", so I know what you mean! Getting the costochondritis diagnosis wouldn't have given me peace of mind if I hadn't had all the other tests for bone and heart. I think my doctor is kind of relieved too. I cannot even imagine what pain I would be in if I didn't take that whole arsenal of pain meds every day too!

Please let us know how your tests go, you will be in my thoughts on Tuesday.

JO, you have the pain where I used to have mine before my (first) breast reduction. I used to say "along my bra line". Remember, pain can be referred from any other part of your body. I hate when docs focus on just one area when it could be your neck...or hips....why don't you go sooner, rather than later. No point in suffering longer than you have to.

My condritis IS in the front of my chest. (That's why I said I used to have that pain.) My old pain ended up being my neck! But I didn't want to point you in another specific direction...

    Barbe and Jo

I actually got a LOL reading your back and forth this am, you both are so funny and humor helps.

Thanks for the good thoughts and prayers, should know tomorrow about the bone scan. The anxiety kills..I swear it does, some days I don't think I can take the anxiety. So here is a good one for you. I realized I had a lot of stress from the BC and one month after I was dxed my 7 year old was dxed with Juv Diabetes. So I ended up going to a therapist that specializes in stress mgmt and meditation, she was so helful and just the lovliest of ladies and I looked forward to it each week. Well last week she was dxed with BC. OMG I could not believe it, I spent a year crying about BC then she got it ....in some wierd way I felt like all of my negative energy wound up with her. Soooo anyway the bone scan is just another thing to deal with in the last few weeks, I am just praying for good news.

I posted a while ago worried about back pain and leg pain. I just got word that my MRI results were negative for metastic cancer! YEA! I do, however, have some serious disc issues that will need to be addressed. I was so worried and put off getting tested for a long time because I almost did not want to know. I realize that I need to keep on top of my health and will try and be proactive instead of reactive from now on.

Ok let me ask you ladies your opinion. I went to have scan and I was very nervous, the tech was sitting in the chair watching the screen and there was another gal sitting with her and chatting ...they kept laughing and giggling and it was just friendly chatter. Then all of a sudden they got quiet and the room seemed serious.

So afterwards I said to her OMG you guys were having so much fun then you got quiet was that because of my scan. and she said "oh dear no, we were just talking about weight loss" blah blah blah..I told them that it freaked me out and she said no no no "don't be worried" and she kind of winked at me very lightly. She said it again on the way out "dont be worried"..do you think she would say that if I needed to be worried about anything?
