Tricia- no, I don't see my onc until next week. I am still on chemo and see him every two weeks. Congrats again on your great news!!

I haven't been around in a while - was treated for DCIS a year ago. My most recent mammo on the bad side a few weeks ago showed a new calcification (just one) and I have to have more views. Anyone have this happen? Doc's office said that on the freakout scale of 1 to 10 this is more like a 2, but i am starting to obsess a little. They also said the lumpectomy and scar tissue may be a cause of this, I am on tamoxifen, did not have chemo just rads. Any kind words would be appreciated!

traveler - no need to freak after my lumpectomy every year i would go for my mammo and sono they would see some little changes and sometimes to be really careful they would biopsy but always benign - they told me it takes quite a few years after a lumpectomy to get a good stable reading because of scar tissue settling

so i havent been in in quite awhile and I never saw this topic - what a great idea !!!
and Its time for my visit to the oncologist i am always nervous before the visit but this time i am especially nervous- i have been feeling somewhat congested for months sort of coughing of and on and almost a burning sensation in my chest- really paranoid of my lungs will talk to the doc hoping and praying its anything but cancer : )

Travelor, I have scar tissue after my lumpectomy/rads and a hard lump around the surgical site.
It's fairly common and probably what you ahve to so try not to worry too much:)
Jdash, I ahven't had this but wanted to send good wishes to you. I think we all get nervous at check up time no matter how long out we are. Good luck!

well i saw this thread months ago, thought it was a great idea, first thing i thought of this morning when i logged on.
So i've had a pain in my hip for the last 6 months or so.. it could be from really overexercising a few months back (that's when it started) but then i totally stopped because i wanted the pain to go away.. which it didn't. Saw my onc and she thought a bone scan would be a good idea. uggh! funny how sometimes you feel like you have to fight for scans and sometimes you just DON't want it. I am so scared...for that pain, for other non painful areas.... Why can't this cancer fear just go away! I am so tired to living with these bouts of fear. things will be smooth for a short while, then something happens and months of worry and fear fill my life. Oh how i long for those precancer days when the worst worry was????? nothing even close to the life and death thoughts we deal with now.
thanks for listening to my rant. just needed to get it off my chest......so waiting on a bone scan in 2 weeks with results about 5 days later......... merry christmas it will be if those results are clear!

Little Flower,
I am in the same boat as you. I have been having hip pain since June. It was intermittent and now is everyday. Waking me up at night. I saw my rad onc for a routine checkup on Friday and he also suggested a bone scan. I don't know when yet but let's keep in touch.

Hi Everyone
Well, it looks as if I'll be waiting until SPRING before I will have any answers. I've had a bone scan, Xray, MRI, CT Scan and blood work. I have a lesion on my pelvis. Not having any pain. I have arthritis or something on the Right side and thats what got this whole thing started, I was having pain on my right side. Well the bone scan lit up abit on the right side. But the MRI and CT showed a lesion on my LEFT. They don't know what it is. The radiologist report says it Could be mets. My tumor marker was very slightly above normal. Nothing to worry about he said.So off to my oncologist I went(whom I haven't seen in 5 Years) hoping to get an answer. Well he doesn't know either. So his approach is to wait and see. I am to have another MRI and blood work in February and see him in March. If they're is any change in the lesion, he hopes he'll have a better idea of what it is. He also put me on Femara.I just had a chest Xray and have to have a liver ultrasound in the next few weeks. I started all these tests last May and I think I'm litteraly going to go insane!!!!!! This not knowing. well I just don't know how much more I can take................

Mugwa,
I know how you feel. I'm still waiting to even get my bone scan SCHEDULED! It's been a week since the doc ordered one because I told him I've been having pain in my hip since June.
It's a good thing they're doing a liver ultrasound. I think that is the area of biggest concern for the oncs. That and other organs. It seem that they never are very concerned about bone pain. I think because they won't do anything unless a bone breaks or is about to break if you do have mets. That's just my opinion.
Thinking of you! Keep us posted!
Hugs!!!!

Mugwa,
I know how you feel too!! I'm seeing my onc for the first time on the 16th after my clear pet, mri but positive bone scan for back ache.
I have also been getting a pain low down on the right side on the front so maybe this is a uterus/womb/liver problem??? Not sure what to think anymore....

Hi Tricia
You know I'd love to be able to tell you something positive. But who the hec knows really...The only thing I can think of its probably not your liver, because your liver his high in the right side of your adbomen. Actually, in the last 4 or 5 days, I've been having a weird feeling there. Not pain, just feels like someone is pushing on my right side. So of course, now I think I have liver mets. Its probably physcosamitic (spelling?) because of all the oncology stuff I'm going through. I really thought I was going to pass out or vomit, walking into that Cancer Clinic again. It just brings it all back. The Chemo room where the "Red Devil" is....all of that.
I am sorry that you are going through this too. Just when I had congradulated you on the all clear! What a flipping roller coaster ride this is. And I want off!!!!!!!!1

Hi Kendy, thanks so much for your reply. Many people have told me if there was cancer the pet would have shown it but I'd still like to find a cause you know??
Keeping those positive thoughts for all of us:)

Tricia, my understanding is that PET scans are very sensitive so if there was something going on, especially enough to cause you pain, than the PET schould have shown it. I hope you get some answers soon!
Well, I am back "waiting" in the waiting room now. I have a breast MRI today and a PET on Tuesday. Since my flippin cancer seems to have not, at least clinically, responded well to chemo I am very much expecting to get news of mets on my PET scan. Plus this stupid rib/chest/back pain continues. I hate cancer for all of us!!

Oh Lori I'm sorry you're going through this awful waiting again and only just saw your post.
I've been busy the past few days as my young niece has just been dx with a recurrance only months after ahe finished chemo/rads!!
I really hope the mri goes well today and of course the pet tomorrow, please keep us posted and I'll be keeping you in my thoughts for B9 results:)

Thanks, Tricia! I hope you find out what is causing your pain, but at least it sounds like it is not cancer!
My MRI, as expected, showed no improvement in the breast after 4 months of chemo...very disheartening. My lymph nodes in the axilla at least appeared normal compared to diagnosis. I have my PET this afternoon.

((((((((Lori))))))))) Thinking of you today.
I finally got my bone scan scheduled for this Thursday. Does anyone know how long it takes for results?
Donalee

Donalee, I got mine after four days but it's possible your Dr's may be quicker on results than our's here in Ireland. Good luck, we'll be thinking only good thoughts for you:)
Lori, I'm sorry the results were'nt better on the mri but hoping the pet has better news. I just noticed you're her2+ as I am so assume you're having herceptin. I know many ladies in a trial for herceptin and Tykerb together for early stage bc which is getting brilliant results so far.
Maybe this may be an option for you to discuss with your onc.
Keep us posted on the pet!

{{{{{{{{{{{Ladies}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}} Awwww, isn't this sooooooooo much fun?
Mugwa, when I had my CT scan and bone scan (the same day for both), one scan said highly suspicious and the other one said concerning for mets. Saw the onc the same day too. She really thought it was NOT mets. We decided to wait for 3 months to do another CT scan. After thinking it over over the weekend I decided on an biopsy. Well, it ended up to be positive. All we've done so far is change me from Arimidex to Aromasin. I will have another CT scan Jan. 22 to see WHATEVER. I knew that was the only sure way I was going to find out. I could have had an MRI, but why?
Tricia, now I thought you were done with this "cancer game!" We've been having a lot of rain...like Ireland.
Donalee, I love your name. I have a niece who's name is Ronalee. I helped name her. It's a long story. As far as the bone scan...I would think that just depends on when your doc wants it back or when the radiologist can read it. My onc wanted it the same day. Everything's different in different places with different doctors.
Good luck to everyone. I'll check back and see if any "news" comes in.

Donalee- I hope you get good results on your bone scan. They are usually read pretty quick around here, but sometimes the rate-limiting factor is getting the results from your onc! The tech actually commented that my bone scan looked good back in August. I don't think they normally do that....she must have felt sorry for me with my "deer in headlights" look just a few days after my diagnosis.
Tricia- I want Tykerb! I have done research on that and feel that would be a good next step. I am actually headed down to MD Anderson in Texas for a second opinion next week. My breast symptoms are worsening before my eyes. Yikes!

Thanks everyone for all your responses. There is so much knowlege on these threads. (And comfort!) I'll keep you posted. Good luck to everyone!
Shirley, that's the closest anyone has come to my name. I struggle all the time with people spelling it wrong. Hahaha.
Hugs!

Hey Shirley, I only hang around for the fun aspect lol.....
Lori, MD Anderson are the THE best for your type of cancer and have been amazing with my friend, you'll be in good hands:)
You won't believe this ladies, but had a long discussion with my onc today regarding all these scan's and my pain that is still there. She left the decision to me, but in a nutshell I agreed to a bone biopsy in Jan! (seemed a good idea at the time lol)....
I still have no answer's and can't relax but want to enjoy Christmas first, so I'm really not panicking at all but obviously those little black thoughts are still there.
Anybody had a bone biopsy?? It'll be guided by ct and I'll be kept in for a day or two she said.

Tricia, I think a biopsy is a good idea so you will not always be worrying. I really hope you get good news, and I think you will!
My PET scan came back without any evidence of mets to lymph nodes or major organs! Yea! The only issue is that *all* my bones showed diffuse uptake due to chemo affect (I was only 1.5 weeks out from taxol). Because of this they could not completely exclude a bone lesion hiding behind the uptake, but the unenhanced bony structures looked normal. I was thrilled! I will take it for now. I figure that an area of bone mets causing my weird back/rib/shoulder pain should have been able to be seen....at least I hope. I have a breast still full of cancer, but I already knew that so I guess the results were as good as they were going to be for me.
I will be checking this thread often, and I have a feeling I will be playing the "waiting game" myself for a long long time to come. Good luck, everyone!!
