I'm going in tomorrow morning for an ultrasound of my arm pit on the cancer side--something is swollen, onc felt it, and then for a follow up bone scan. I thought I was OK, but realize I'm really scared. The ultrasound department knew I was going to be in the hospital for at least three hours for uptake to happen before bone scan and they wanted to be able to call me back to the department, "if you have a node," so they asked for my cell number. When do we get to relax?

KEW- It is so scary to be going through any kind of a scan for follow-up. We naturally think the "what ifs". I hope that it turns out not to be anything. We are here waiting with you. Please keep us posted.

Frankie and KEW - the waiting is the worst! I can't stand it. I told my family that I don't need to worry about losing hair if I have chemo because I'm losing it from the surgeries and stress! I know this because I washed my hair in the sink and watched it coming out!!!!!
I got some good news today. My last path report came back with clear margins and clear nodes. Thank GOD!!! I was trying to remain positive, but my heart was ready to pound out of my chest this morning. I have to get a petscan (more waiting). I have triple negative bc, which is common for BRCA1. The recurrence was labeled as chest wall recurrence, as it was very close to my implant. He said I'll have to do some sort of chemo to prevent the recurrence and possibly radiation too. Luckily, the rad onco knows my PS very well. In the meantime, he is going to contact some specialists at university hospitals (we don't have any in Vegas) and he recommended a breast onco here in town, too. Now, I can just heal from the surgery and feel better!!!! Oh, an no hysterctomy next week!

Kittycat,
Clear nodes and margins are what we all hope for:) I'm so glad this was in your favour and am sure it'll make a difference to prognosis an treatment:) xx
Frankie, the wait is hard when you don't know if there's anything there. I'd assume not in your case and continue life as normal:) xx

Kittycat,
I haven't done any reconstruction yet, so I don't know how it all works. Was this chest wall recurrence under the implant? If so, how did you find it? I'm so glad it is small (my original bc was just 1mm bigger than yours) and SOOO happy to hear there were clear margins and lymph nodes! Gosh, and to think you had the bi-mast to PREVENT this from happening! The nasty booger. . .!
I think I told you above that I had radiation after the mastectomy because they found DCIS cells present at my chest wall margins. So my radiation was all aimed at the chest wall. I was scared of the heart and lung getting zapped, but they really took a lot of time measuring and remeasuring and remeasuring to try to avoid them as much as possible. They showed me on the xrays how just a teeny part of my lung was in the radiation field. As for the heart, for extra protection, they had special little wedges on the machine that would pop up and block the radiation from the area nearest my heart to ensure it didn't get hit.
Let us know when you find out more.

The chest wall recurrence was in my scar tissue/capsule right next to my implant (on the outside, where I could feel it). My mom said the BS said it was right up next to the implant. Scary!!! Yeah, I don't know if I'll have rads and chemo. We will see. One day at a time. The rad onco said that it will be close to my lung. Mine is on the right side. Gosh - that would be scary to have it on the left and worry about the heart. I'm glad they are really careful with you!

Weety and Kittycat, my niece just had a chest wall recurrance to the left side and the surgeon terrified her by saying she'd be working within millimetre's of her heart!!! Thankfully the surgery went went well and she's currently getting through chemo. I think in her case this was missed at original diagnosis only eighteen months ago on the same side.
Kittycat, heal well and feel better soon:)

Thank you Tricia! I am sure it is fine - just annoying at moment. More annoyed at having to go to another doctor appointment, but better safe and soon than late and sorry.

Help girls! I'm worried sick. I had a PET scan the 27th of April. Not a big deal and as usual never received a phone call with results. No new is good news right?!
Well this last Monday I had a MRI done to the remaining breast and BOOM! The next day my onc's office called and left a message about how the doctor needed to see me and they have made an appointment for me this following week. I called them yesterday and they said it was for a PET scan "review".
Then Wednesday a Radiologist called me about the MRI results and asking me all these questions about if I still have my ovaries and if I'm on hormonal therapy, have I made an appointment with my oncologist to "review" the PET scan results.
I've had probably 6-8 PET scans in the last two years NO ONE has ever called me so I'm freaking out.
Oh and BTW radiologist guy said the MRI showed "changes" in the healthy side.
I just don't know what to think.

Carpediemocc,
Try not to read too much into these calls, Dr's have a way of freaking us out for no reason:)
Holding good thoughts for you and hoping it's benign, if not, at least know you found it very early so treatment and prognosis should be minimal:)
Love
Tricia xx

Just stopping by to see how everyone is doing. I just found out I need to have a stress test before they will do my hip replacement. Think I will hang around here and wait. Good luck to all!

Hello,
I would like to sit in the waiting room, with you girls. Lexieslove, Great Thread!!
I had an MRI yesterday for headaches that I have been having for about 8 weeks now. I have never been prone to headaches at all. A year or so back I was having headaches then too, had and MRI and here I had mucosal deposits in my sinuses. Never have had sinus problems so didn't think that would be what it was, thank goodness it was a sinus infection, easy fix. They put me on antibiotic's and within a few days the headaches disappeared. So this time I asked to be put on an antibiotic about 3 weeks of starting with headaches, but the headaches failed to go away, so oncologist said to the MRI you go. I am extremely claustrophobic and I forgot to take my xanax long enough ahead of the scan, so it did not have time to take affect. So the result was me panicking, they tape your head down like you see them do to a person that is on a backboard after a crash. UGH They had to bring me back out of the tube and had my husband in the room with me, to help keep me calm. So I calmed down and went back in the little tube and in about 10 minutes the xanax took affect and I made it through the rest of the scan.
So that was Saturday, I hope they call with results tomorrow, if not I will go to the hospital on Tuesday and ask for a copy of the scan results. They have to give them to you, even if the doctor has not given you the results. Thats a trick I learned through this whole BC experience.
So I will wait it out here

Hi Sherry,
I am claustrphobic in those damn MRI's too. I had a hip one a year ago and they had to bring me out for a bit. My xanax didn't help. Maybe I needed to take a coupl.e I had a bone scan a few months ago and I freaked in there too. I am one to get the results too. I will wait with you too...hope all will be ok...I hate stress tests..I get stressed thinking about it..lol

Thanks Candie,
My husband has had MRI's and he goes to sleep. I freak out when a pillow or blanket fall in front of my face when I am sleeping. The nurse was really understanding.
The waiting is the hardest and having a constant headache just keeps reminding me to worry.

Sherry I'm extremely claustrophobic!!!
I had to have two MRI's some months ago for suspected bone mets...thankfully all was fine but the only way I got through it was to keep my eye's shut from the moment I went in and came out.
They did'nt tape my head sown thankfully!!! I know how rough it must have been for you though and hope you get good results:)

Hi all - I sleep in the MRI and Pets! Carp - hope all is well with you!
Thanks All for the "good vibes" -
Onc decided that the lump must come out, she didn't want to run me through even more tests (had many just a few months ago - lump has more than doubled since then). So my recon doctor has brought in his preferred breast surgeon (cause mine passed and he, recon doc, had a car accident and cannot operate until Oct, by the way, the gal (temp) who had filled in for me, died in Car accident as well - feeling a bit like bad luck for others...) Next Tuesday meet new surgeon and schedule - they will do pathology after...
Be well ladies, or at least happy!

Hi to all,
Sherry, how are you doing? Thinking of you today. I don't know anyone sleeps in an MRI, but I know people that do also.
Vision, good luck..let us know how it goes
hugs and prayers

Sherry, Good luck on the results, hope every thing came out good, I had a breast MRI where they put you face down and position your breast in 2 holes then put a thing that looks and feels like a straight jacket around your body, took 45 minutes to get it right that was bad enough but when they put me in the tube I yelled GET ME OUTTA HERE!!! I cryed because after all the prep to get me there and I couldnt even finish it, So I know what you mean,
Vision- Sorry about all your dr, and the temp, what a strange thing to keep happening wow! Good luck on your test!

debbie, wow when I had my MRI, I was comfy on my belly with myhead on a nice soft pillow. My breasts were each in a hole. I fell aslepp in that one, I think cause I was on my belly. any other I have had I almost always yell...get me outta here! Hugs Debbie, I dont think I would have liked the one you had.
sherry how are you?
So, I went for pre-op tests yesterday (for my hip replacement). Now I have to go for stress test tomorrow cause something is abnormal on echo cardiogram. Now normally I dont mind stress tests but cause I can't walk with this hip of mine, they are going to do it with medication and that freaks me out. The meds makes your heart rate go to where they want it and raises your blood pressure to cause stress...that is how they explained it to me! It sounds scarey to me. I have to do this to make sure there is nothing wrong with my heart for the surgery. I know this is not cancer related but I will wait right here with your support.
have a good day!

Hi Girls,
I got the results today and the MRI is clear for Mets, I am so happy and relieved. The oncologist called with those results. The primary is looking at the report and getting back with me. I got the report and it said I had mucosal deposits and also fluid in the mastoid air cells. So in my non-professional opinion it is another sinus infection. So i will wait and see what primary wants to do. The report also said there was a Linear focus of T1 and T2 prolongation within the Right cerebral peduncle/midbrain ...may represent prior chronic injury ... Don't know what all that means but I did get whiplash about 10 years ago when I was hit by a wave in the ocean and got slammed to the bottom and hit my head on the ocean floor. My guess is that is what that is.
Thanks Tricia, Candi, Vision Debbie
Tricia, claustrophobia is the pits (Congrats on the no bone mets)
Candi, Congrats on your 4 years--Mine was 5 years this past march---They say the chemical induced stress test is good because they can slow the heart down faster if they had to than they could with the exercise stress test---I hope all goes well with that.
Vision--I hope your lump is B9--I had a lump about a year ago that they took out and here is was just a ball of scar tissue---That was a happy day
Debbie, I probably would have done the same thing if I had some straight jacket type thingy on me too. Claustrophobia is a really stressful.
