Golden, I am taking 150 twice a day. I think the bloating is letting up a little. I am just So frustrated. My glucose has been rising ever since I started taking Tamoxifen. Don't think it would make any difference which one I take, it's the lack of estrogen. And the thought of more meds Agh!!! Everything affects the liver and or kidneys. I'm so sick of not feeling good. I have even though of chucking the Tamox all together.

I will know if I took DIM or the placebo after they publish the study results probably in the summer of 2015 or so. My blood sugars and Hemoglobin A1C went up to the prediabetic range. Fasting levels are down but the HgbA1C is hanging in there. Hope now that I've switched to an AI it may improve.

Actually, it is Tamoxifen that can raise the blood sugar levels not DIM. I just happened to be on DIM too. Sorry that my post wasn't clear. Here's a link to a study on Tamoxifen and Diabetes Risk (study has some limitations): http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/cncr.2...

Good info, thanks for sharing. More to consider while I make up my mind about taking DIM. Higher cortisol levels make it harder to lose belly fat, may be I'll see if that  is easier to get rid of before trying DIM.

I am 43 have atypical lobular hyperplasia and was diagnosed in 2012 and the onco wanted me to take Tomoxifen and I took it and it made me sick. Thanks to God I've had normal MRI and ultrasounds since then. I take a slew of supplements and now am concerned DIM might cause a cancer. My BS said they are all okay to take and still wants me to try Tomoxifen again. Any thoughts? I am so so scared.

I was on Tamox for about 5 months and had to go off. Just could not handle the side effects. If I could take DIM I would. It caused me to bloat up too much.

DIm and cortisol..well one cup of coffee can raise your cortisol levels for about 12 hours.. (just touching on a past post)

As for the bloating im looking into that! maybe a different brand?

Hi, just thought I would mention that synthetic folic acid, frequently found in multi vitamins is potentially dangerous. Folate is the safe form to take.

Also, I have been taking DIM (highly absorbable form) since 2012 after a diagnosis of ADH. It was recommended by an integrative med specialist at Sloan Kettering. A few weeks ago I had a pelvic ultrasound and the radiologist assumed I was taking Tamoxifen based upon the appearance of my ovaries and uterus. It'sIt's pretty powerful stuff.

LBP--what is the dose of DIM that you are taking? It sounds like it is really working well for you.

    Thanks.

LBP - also what is the brand? I've been taking 300 mg DIM per day along with calcium d-glucarate but I'm not sure this is a highly absorbable brand of DIM. I'm taking Olympian Labs, I get it on Vitacost. Also, another way you can tell if your DIM (as well as Tamoxifen) is effective is if your mammograms are showing less breast density so definitely ask your doctor after your next mammogram.

I have had major issues with the anti estrogen meds. I tried DIM but I couldn't handle the bloating. Has anyone started taking DIM in a lower dose and built it up? I was thinking of starting it again in smaller dose to see if I can handle it better and then slowly build up the dosage to 300.

    Anyone tried this?

I have been using DIM by Nature's way for about 6 months because of fibroids.  My doctor discovered breast lumps couple months ago and sente for mammo and will also need biopsy.   My concer is that i take 2 DIM caps per day, but its says you can double the dosage.  When i double, i start having light spotting. (No matter when my period was), if i continue on 4 caps i end up with period coming earlier.  Why is that?  Now i am wondering if DIM is not right for me?  Is it was caused my breast lumps? which i never had before.  Anyone use 4 DIM capsules a day andget the same spotting?  Thanks

I use DIM. My bottle says take one tablet per day (200 mg) and that is what I do.

How many mg are in your DIM capsules? If yours are 200 mg also, then you are taking 4 times the amount I take and is recommended (I use Smokey Mountains brand). Even if yours are only 100 mg capsules (the number of capsules is not as important as the dosage) nothing on my bottle says it is okay to double the dose. I can't say if DIM is right for you, but given the problems you've described you might seriously think of cutting back your dosage and talking to a gyno about the spotting.

I see that this is not an active list of late. If there is anyone out there, especially the ones posting initially, I would appreciate hearing how you are doing or have you stopped taking DIM? I am trying to learn more proactive ways to help myself. One of the 2010 Sisters posted to me that she was taking DIM and that increased my curiosity. I am having hair issues that may or may not be directly related to Tamoxifen. I am in my sixth year and it's getting more difficult to even get motivated.

I declined Tamoxifen when I first got diagnosed. I had every intention of taking DIM instead, along with my other holistic practices. The problem is I forgot about my cancer and just went on with life and didn't change much. Well ...2 years later- recurrence! Damn. Well now I am gonna do the hormonals. But that's not for another 6 weeks until after radiation, so in the meantime I've been taking 450mg of DIM and I feel amazing! I can't believe I didn't do this the first time. But I'm also doing no refined sugar, processed foods of any kind, all plant based diet, juicing, curcumin, melatonin, mushrooms, vitamin D, various immune boosters and multi's! I feel more incredible that I've ever felt in my entire life! I wish I'd gone this hardcore the first time and I bet there wouldn't have been a recurrence. I've also noticed my moods are so much more even on DIM. I think I had serious estrogen dominance that fed this cancer. The DIM is really amazing.

Normajean....I take DIM in leu of an aromatase inhibitor. Im post menopausal. I take Active Immune 2 tabs once a day.

Heartnsoull....yes IMO if your breasts are getting less dense that is an indication that the DIM is working since that is what you would expect with Tamoxifen. However keep in mind that they usually become less dense as we age but very gradually. Good luck to all...

I continue to take DIM daily and consider it an important part of my anti-BC plan. Just a warning if you are considering adding DIM to your life, DIM can turn your urine pink, which if you don't know can happen, can be fairly worrisome.

gindugirl, dtad and labelle......thank you for responding and the info about DIM. labelle, thanks for the pink urine otherwise I probably would have freaked out. dtad, is Active Immune the brand name and how many mg. are in each tablet?? Gindugirl I am sorry about the recurrence something we all don't want to face. Where do you get your DIM.......there are so many all over the internet one doesn't know what good (real) and what is not.

I was in a research study on DIM through the University of Arizona Cancer Center while I was on Tamoxifen. The study used "Bioresponse DIM 150" (the company is BioResponse Nutrients) and it is available on Amazon. Study results should be out soon. I'll post when they are available.

I believe I took four capsules a day. Two in the morning and two at night. They counted the pills I had left at each visit!

I take Smoky Mountain Naturals DIM + BioPerine, one 200 mg tablet per day. I also order mine from Amazon.

Golden, please do post any results of the U of AZ study. Hoping for good news from that one. Too seldom are products like DIM studied in a setting like that.

I have been taking DIM instead of a hormonal since 2009 and so far so good. But remember recurrence can occur even to those on hormonals so don't punish yourself if you have had a recurrence. I think everyone has to make their own decision. For reasons of my own medical history there was a split of opinion on whether I could safely take tamoxifen. So I decided to try DIM plus some dietary changes (no dairy which is full of estrogen, lots of cruciferous veggets etc).

And I would be really interested in the U Arizona study.

Hi Mandy I also take DIM in leu of anti hormone treatment. Congratulations on NED for 7 years! I think it proves we do have options and no one really knows about recurrence. I wish you continued good health. Please keep us posted. I think its really important that we all know there are alternatives to conventional treatments!

Dtad, can I ask where you purchase active immune brand? I cannot locate anywhere. What is the difference between this and Natures Way highly absorable?

    Thank you
