I am happy to post that every muscle in my body hurts but it's a good hurt. We had a great time at the beach. I was able to do much more than I thought I could and my girl got to go to the beach everyday and to the pool. We even did mini golf and went to the aquarium. I must say though I am so glad to be home and to sleep in my on bed. Shhhh don't tell my Dr. I did get in the pool a few times. I still have a small area that has not healed but it was scabed over.
I also am having constipation since starting Tamoxofin. I bought some colace but I forgot to start it. LOL Just love chemo brain.
Congratualtions to those who had clean scans, great vacation or whatever. I can't remember half the stuff I read anymore.

Michele ~ enjoy your long weekend! Is it a holiday in Canada?
Abby ~ Welcome back ! Glad you had a good time !

Thanks for the tips ladies on the constipation that is. I can't take stool softners, ie... Colace or Docusate Sodium. I had an allergic reaction some years ago while I was taking 3 different medications and that was one of them, acutally an anaphyllatic reaction, and ended up in the hospital. The doctor told me never to take any of those 3 medications again, so, I haven't. Juanelle, I typically eat either Fiber one or Kashi go lean cereal in my yogurt everyday and so far it hasn't helped. Oh well maybe the Onc can give me some ideas when I see him in a few weeks. Until then I will keep doing what I've been doing.

Renee,
what works for me.... popcorn, peanuts with redskins, apricots, prunes (now called dried plums), pears. Can't do the laxative thing. Good luck.

Alicia, yes indeed it is a long weekend...yahooo.

Renee - coffee always works for me! And maybe Fiber One in your yogurt doesn't give you enough fiber. Try a bowl of the cereal in the morning. Pears are also great, as Pam said. Good luck getting back into the swing of things!
Abby, sounds like heaven. I LOVE the beach! Only got a few days in so far this summer, but I hope to make it for one more weekend this month sometime before the fall semester.
I'm staying busy with research papers, panel presentations and the like for summer classes. I can't believe that I'll graduate with my Master's in May! This last year has been tough. Missing classes due to illness and treatments, getting married then divorced, but I'm glad I stuck with it. This is a goal I've had for many many years, and even though it took me a long time to get here, it was all worth it.
I've got a mammo coming up this Wednesday. I'm not overly worried, but it is strange that it is scheduled for a year to the day that I had my diagnostic mammo and ultrasound that confirmed my fears of cancer. Let's hope this year, August 4th is a much better day!
Hugs to all, and have a fabulous day!

Shelby, yes indeed it has been mildly sucky....Things could only get better. I hear you about having followup checks around the same time. I made sure I had no appointments the week of my diagnosisversery...

Shelby,
You have had a terrible year! How in the world did you cope? And did I overlook your ranting and raving posts? Or have you pretty much suffered in silence? Well, I hope you have had a lifetime of bad things in one year and now it will all be smooth sailing. Congratulations on your masters! Quite an accomplishment!

100 pages of posts going almost unnoticed girls!! Thanks for support & safe place to vent! Here's to all of our better health!

Pam - I think I've survived because of my experience with cancer. I've realized that there is nothing that can happen in my life that I can't get through to the other side. It's not been an easy time, that's to be sure, but I'm able to accept difficulties with more peace and serenity now. I've also decided that I will no longer put up with situations or circumstances that are not healthy for me, either physically, mentally, or spiritually. I'm also super-conscious of the way my choices affect my children - not that I wasn't aware before, but I'm even more so now.
I also hope I've had my quota of bad things, and that I'll be sailing along problem-free, at least for a little while!

Well, I just want to and say - I finished my Chemo last Tuesday!!!! Yipee
It's been a very tiring rest of the week. Haven't even felt like going out or getting online.
I was wondering how long it takes to get your energy back? I saw the Radiation Onc last week too and I get three weeks off before that begins. So - do any of you, that took radiation remember if you felt better from Chemo before you started with rads?
Thanks a bunch,
Carolyn

Renee-
You may have already resolved your tummy issues but in case you haven't I thot I'd tell you about Mira-Lax. I had a nurse onc tell me that she had a child that had problems and the doctors recommended he take the Mira-lax because it was so gentle. He takes it daily. So, I tried it and it worked for me. Worked fast too. I bought the brand version at walmart - equate - ClearLax. Dissolves easily in just about everything. Drink lots of water too, I mean lots.
Hope this helps, just a thot. I know its uncomfortable.

Carolyn,
I didn't have to do chemo but just wanted to say HOORAY... you did it! Radiation should be a piece of cake!

So glad your done with that junk Carolyn. give yourself a couple weeks and you should feel really great. Rads. did not make me feel that bad. Maybe a little tired but I think most of that was stress related. Be sure to get yourself some 100% Aloe Vera in case you burn.
It's so great to see all the good news here.
Everyone stay strong and healthy.0 -
Carolyn, I did rads only a month after chemo. I was not so much tired as my bones ached. That took a good three months to get better. Rads didn't make me tired at all.

Thanks soooooooooooooo much for the encouragment. I can tell I'm on the up-swing as I want to do so much. Have to pace myself. Guess I'm also a bit excited - yes there is life after Chemo.
Catching up on reading the posts I missed last week. How impressive Shelby - research papers, panel presentations- Whew - makes me weary to think aboout it. Kitty dog - time at the beach! So glad you had fun. And yes, it does seem that there is a crop of good news. Let's keep it up girls!
Thanks again to all of you and prayers are going up for new mammos, dr. appts. and drug side effects.
I'm just a little carried away ;-)

Carolyn, I only had a week off between chemo & rads. By the time I was 2 weeks into the rads I was starting to feel better, more energetic & I was told it was because the chemo affects were slowly lessening their grip. I survived rads pretty good, energy level wise, so by the time rads was finished I was feeling decent.

Carolyn ~ Congrats on finishing chemo !! woo HOO Be kind to yourself and you will feel better with each passing day !

I found that rads hit me worse than chemo as far as fatigue goes. Perhaps it was a culmulative effect but I couldn't believe how tired I was for weeks after rads ended. I'm coming out of the fog now and am getting all rested up. I return to work on Sept. 7th!

Way to go Carolyn.
I went into rads still fatigued. Got my get up and go back and wam three weeks into rads and it hit again. It has been almost a month now since I finished rads and I am finally feeling better. I hope you don't get the fatigue SE.

Congratulations Carolyn! So happy for you that you finished chemo. I didn't do chemo, but rads wiped me out, I was tired and weak from them. But, we are all different, considering I didn't go thru chemo, I'm sure you'll have an easier time of it with rads. Good luck to you
Well, my diagnosisversary came and went without much fanfare. My hubby and I had a date that night, we talked a little about it in the car on the way home, but didn't dwell on it. I go see my rad onc this week on my surgeryversary (1st surgery that is). That is just a follow up, no big deal. Thank you all for your support and encouragement, it means more to me than you know. I haven't even known you all for a year yet, and you have helped me thru one of the toughest times in my life. That is what makes our bond strong, we are all going thru this, and by encouraging eachother, we are also encouraging ourselves.

Carolyn thanks for the recommendation of Miralax. As a nurse I am aware of it, but I just hate taking medications and I already take so stinking many... Yuck!! O.k. enough complaining!! I guess worse case scenario I'll buy some and try it and quit complaining about tummy problems. Actually some Captain's D fish helped the problem, but it was a temporary resolve. LOL! Not a long term resolution. Miralax here I come...
Carolyn... Here's your "HAPPY DANCE"!!!!!

darn Renee now I want Captain D's. lol and I haven't eaten it in a very long time for that reason. I am still trying to figure out a dosage of colace. If that doesn't work then I might try the mirlax.

What is Captain D's? We don't have that here in Canada. Is it a seafood restaurant?
