c2will,
Hooray for graduating! Good job. I was surprised how quickly my skin recovered from radiation SEs. Hope it is that way for you. I still felt draggy for a month or two and my zest for life was a little longer than that coming back... but think that was more mental. It's kind of a let down to be finished, emotionally I mean. I started Arimidex the day I finished rads so never could draw a line where one stopped and the other started, SEs I mean.
Love to read everyone's gardening plans. Spring is here!

Yea for Carol on finishing rads. I started my Arimidex last week and so far so good. I haven't noticed any extra aches or pains. But it has only been a week. There is still time.
M360, sounds like you are still going through Heck with this surgery also. You are strong in so many ways, don't let this get you down. Praying for you.
Alicia, good luck on the Tamoxifen, maybe the SEs will not be so bad.
Mary, good to hear from you. I have also been enjoying fewer appointments. When I went to Onc last time, she said some back in 6 weeks, I was so excited, I was doing the happy dance. Hope all is well with you.
pauldingmom, sounds like you really have a garden. We have 8 acres, but it is a rock pile. We hardly have any dirt to speak of, so if I really wanted a veggie garden, we would have to haul in dirt. I was raised on a farm and have never wanted to have a veggie garden since. Too much work. There are lots of farmers markets around and if I want fresh veggies, then I will just go there.
I have been trying to catch a little time each day for gardening. I am not going to plant any new plants this year, just try to maintain what I have. I am going to have to hire someone to help me with the big stuff, like trimming my palms, they are too scratchy for me this year. I am also afraid to use the hedge trimmers. I am so afraid of getting lymphedema, I am trying to be very careful. The cacti really suffered this winter and I think I may have lost some. I will need help with that also. There is still plenty for me to do.

M360 - sending positive healing vibes your way! You have so much on your plate I can believe that you feel different. At some point I felt like I was removed from what was happening to me - that I was outside of myself. Is that a coping mechanism? I think so but perhaps a healthy and needed one. Do whatever you need to do to keep "yourself" that is your "spirit" whole during this time.
I had the hives too with the clear dressings/adhesives. We couldn't figure out what was causing the reaction - the dressing itself or the alcohol, or the t-something that they would put on to help you not react to the dressings. I had much success and healing with the Mepore (white cloth) dressings and iodine ONLY! The nurses told me it was old-school but it worked. I hope that on top of everything else you can get this sorted out.
Hugs!
Marie

Went back to the surgeon today all is going well, next week to the Oncologist, he told me I had an "easy thyroid cancer", I said good becasue I feel like I am collecting them and am trying my darndest to only collect "easy". Will go back to work part time starting thursday. I am trying not to wear myself out as my system gets used to another set of chemical changes, oh well life with Chemistry!!! We found some onion sets today so will plant peas, onion, swiss chard and spinach tomorrow. Can't wait for the flowers to start blooming.0
-
Carollynn, hard to believe there's any such thing as an easy Thyroid cancer but I'm glad yours is. I've been thinking of you. Glad you'll be able to go back to work this week. Have fun planting - we're supposed to have nice warm weather starting tomorrow - hope it goes as far north as Port Hope.
Congratulations on reaching your goal jburke! What a great accomplishment for a great cause.
Have a pleasant evening everyone.

Hey Ladies hope all of you are having a great week! It's been a very busy week, my dad had brain surgery yesterday. He had a bleed on the back side of his brain and they had to drill 2 holes to drain out the hematoma. Hopefully he will get to come home Thursday, but he is still sick but doing better. I am going to see the plastic surgeon tomorrow and hoping for some good news about my reconstruction. :=)
Juanelle, Alicia, Michelle, Carollynn, Mary Magob, Jen, and M360 I'm glad you ladies are doing well. M360 I know that you have been through the wringer. But hang in there and know that I am praying for you. {{{{Hugs to you}}}}
Pam is it as warm in Florida as it is in Alabama? We will be hitting a high of 82 or 83 here by Thursday. We think we are having a heat wave. LOL! What about you Juanelle or txtstardust? I guess it's warm in Texas now?

Michele, congratulations - what a relief and I'm so happy for you.

Michele, I am dancing the happy dance for you, and singing, " Oh what a beautiful morning, oh what a beautiful day I got a wonderful feeling Michele is finally going to have things in life going her way..."
Carollynn, thank you, thank you, thank you for the beautiful flowers. The roses that you have were ones my mother grew and were her favorite color, hence for me too. How interesting that you gave me that rose, life is a mystery isn't it!
Marie, thanks for the heads up to make sure my onc surgeon makes a note to cover surgical sites with Mepore, and also for your kind words of support.
Jen, congrats on making your goal and then some. They have a walk in September here and I wanted to do it, but my wise daughters told me "Mom, there is always next year!" Next year they said they would do the three day walk too, hopefully I will be cancer free by then and we will have a lot to celebrate about then too.
Paulding Mom, I'm not a Southerner but I am one at heart, does that count. I want to be Paula Deen, now that's a woman who knows how to live... and her boys who cook and go all over finding good eats and tell you how to have them shipped straight to your home, now that's good Southern Hospitality, knowing a good thing and sharing.
Wish I could be out gardening. My daughters are keeping things going even during the rain that we are having here. After reading about everyones hostas, decided to do something special with them in my shaddy area. I can't remember who was wondering about what to put in a full sun area, I did a big pots (ones that I can't even move with a dolly) last year with purple verbenia, lavender, mexican sage (which will bloom purple flowers until fall and the hummingbirds just love), and I can't find my notebook from last summer but a couple of other purple flowers, and had them on each side of my drive. People commented all summer about them. I love begonias, both the single leaf and multi leaf ones, in a hanging planters, I do them under the eaves leading up to the porch of my house.
I have to watch all my plants because I have rabbits, deer and other critters who love my plants, this year my girls found Critter Ridder, that is a natural substance you put around your beds to keep them from eating flowers and veggies. Someone also mentioned about how they would love to do a veggie garden but they have no place I think. Well this year my girls are planning on buying those planters on HSN that allows you to plant and get double the yield with little watering. They saw these last year and thought we'd try them but didn't, this year with all that is going on with me, I think I'd like to try my veggies this way and see what happens. Especially my herb garden, I do them in a planter and take this into the garage with lights and keep it growing all winter.
If I missed any of you in regards to all the support during this crazy time of mine, I'm sorry and want to thank each and every one of you for sharing and caring it truly has given me such hope.
Jen, I also thought of you last night and today as I'm having a time of it with my lymphedema. Last night couldn't even lay my arm down, the garment I have and even my daughters doing lymph massages three times a day couldn't relieve the swelling and pain. The nurse who cared for me in the hospital, lives down the road and came to check things out and gave me another massage. I feel so fortunate that I have such care. What is giving me relief is the Lyrica, which stops the nerve pain. Did your doctors give you anything or suggest any special things to help you?
Well ladies have a great day and keep smiling.

Michelle - great news for you!
M360 = your garden sounds lovely. I will work in my garden whenever the rain decides to stop. We've had quite a bit of rain in the northeast this week. We were teased with warm weather two weeks ago, but March is a fickle month. I'm hoping to get the cool weather veggie seeds in the grounds next week. The daffodil and tulips are coming up, just waiting for everything to bloom.

Renee we must have been posting at the same time and I didn't realize that you had posted. Please know that my prayers are with you at this time and I will be praying for a full recovery for your Father. I hope that your family has a wonderful Easter and that things go well for your reconstruction.

M360- My doctors have not given me anything special to help with the pain or swelling. They have told me to take Aleve, which I do almost daily. It seems to help some.
Renee-I am so sorry to hear about your father, sending prayers and hugs your way.
Hope everyone is having a great day!

Michele - so glad to hear about your good boob! If you didn't have this issue when would you have gone for a follow up mammogram? I'm wondering when I'll have that "pleasure" again!
Renee - sorry to hear about your dad. Hope all goes well for him and he's home again soon.
Well today I've got the handyman over taking care of my "honey-do" list!
Take care all!

Marie ~ Hope the handyman takes care of everything for YOU !

Michele, what wonderful news! I am thrilled for you!
Jen, congrats on reaching your goal for the walk! My mom, who is a bc survivor, did the walk several years ago and it was a great experience for her. When is the actual walk?
Carollyn, what beautiful flowers! I am envious of all you gardeners out there. I have a black thumb, pretty much everything I touch dies. I even tried a cactus once and that died too. Oh well, I accept my limitations and will enjoy plants vicariously through all of you!
Renee, sorry to hear about the troubles your dad is going through. I am sending positive, healing vibes his way! And yes, it's beautiful here in Texas, supposed to be in the 80's all week and mostly sunny. Yay!
M360, I hope the lymphedema calms down for you soon (you too, Jen). You both deserve a break!
Well, I just finished tx number 13. I had thought it was number 8, but forgot a week in there, duh! I was at the cancer center all day, as I had an appointment with my onc before my infusion of Zometa, which I waited forever for them to get started! By that time, it was almost time for rads, so I decided to just hang out for a short while until my appointment. I am famished - no lunch yet, but that's next on my agenda! Then on to class, and after that, my daughter's track meet, which usually lasts until 9pm or later. No wonder I'm tired!
Blessings to each and every one of you!
~Shelby

Shelby, breast cancer does not give any breaks from being a mom! I hope you can stay awake for the track meet!
Renee, you sure have your hands full... working, grandchildren and your dad's serious problems! I hope he is doing well, sounds very scary.
We all need gardeners and handymen! Wow, that would be a luxury. I would even settle for ones who do not give massages!

Michele- When I was on earlier, I forgot to say that I am so happy for you that your good boob is still good Please forgive my oversight
Shelby- Your schedule just makes me tired by reading it! Take it easy and get some rest.
It is sunny and 75 here in the suburbs of Chicago! It is BEAUTIFUL! I am anxious to get going with my evening and get out of work!
Take Care

Congrats on the "de-portation" Bethie! I got mine out last week too! Isn't it a relief? It's like checking one more thing off the cancer list!

Renee, it is in the 70s in Texas. Unfortunately, I have been working long hours and barely see the day light. By the time I get some time off it will be in the 90s and I will just about miss spring. Hope your dad is doing better.
M360, sounds like your DDs are taking good care of you. So sweet to buy you a gardening place.
Michele, congrats on the good report.
Speaking of gardening, I needed some help in my yard, to clean things up from the winter. It is usually something that I would do, but since I had surgery and all the treatments, I am reluctant to do much heavy gardening this year. So the yard guy came today and I had him trim up a few things in my yard. I was at work, so I gave him instructions over the phone. One thing was to trim my 3 palm trees. They were really damaged from the cold winter we had. Well, while he was trimming them, he came across a 3 foot rattle snake up in the palm leaves. OMG, I let my grandson play in the rock garden and around all this area. If I hadn't had all this happen, it probably would have been me trimming the palms. We have lived here 23 years and this is only the 2nd rattle snake we have come across. One of our dogs was bitten by a copperhead last fall, and survived, I don't like snakes. Now I will be afraid for my grandkids, my dogs and myself to go out back.
Good evening to everyone and hope you are getting to enjoy some of this beautiful spring weather.

Update, my dad is doing much better today other than an atrocious headache. He is suppose to get to go home tomorrow!!! Yeah!!! He has tons of staples in his head... Ouch!!!
My trip to the plastic surgeon went well. I go back in 8 weeks for a follow up. He won't touch me till I am 6 months out from radiation on the breast cancer side. His plans are to do a reduction and a lift on the left and a (I think he called it a mastoplexy, where he just lifts the skin around the areola and lift the breast without going into the breast tissue itself on the right).
