Renee - sorry to hear about your dad and glad to hear he's going home tomorrow.  He must be on the mend.

Juannelle - oh to have palm trees!

Things are warming up here in Ontario and things are starting to show signs of blooms to come but not much yet.  This weekend is supposed to be unseasonably warm.  Saturday is supposed to be 25 Celsius (77 Fahrenheit). Hard to believe. My DH has already booked a tee off time with his golf buddies!

Michele glad to hear your good boob is still good!

    Ladies have a wonderful evening.

Renee:  so glad your Dad is doing better and hopefully able to be home soon.  Happy Belated Birthday to you, Shelby & Marion......

M360 & Carollyn:  praying for comfort and healing rest for both of you....you ladies are gifted with gardening & inspiring me to think of all kinds of flowers for my husband to plant!  He's been laid off since Dec 10th, so I have my very own handy-man, yard-boy, masseuse (sp?)!  He's getting pretty good with housework, but as the weather keeps improving, I'm afraid that's gonna fall back on me!!

Yay, MicheleBoots on the good boob staying good!!!!

Juannelle,  eeeeekkkkk!  snakes in the yard? around the grandkids? I'm sure we've got them all around us too, but sight unseen so far!  Sure hope you can get rid of 'em safely!  Thanks for thinking of me on an earlier post, too, I do appreciate it.

Alicia, how are the new "girls?"  My exchange surgery is set for April 15th (right only).  Someday I will probably have to do a lift on the left, but PS said wait a couple months for the implant to settle.  Did you get saline or silicone?  I'm opting for saline and hope I've made the right decision.....

My Momma's been in the hospital, too. Since last Thursday & just got to come home today.  She's got major breathing problems....Emphysema, COPD, and has been on oxygen for years.  She had a sinus infection that went to her lungs and just couldn't get well til she went to hospital.  Ladies, if any of you smoke, pleeease stop.  You don't want to see someone you love struggle to breathe and you don't want someone you love to see YOU struggle to breathe! Breaks my heart for my Momma.....

Princess JoJo:  Wave your majic wand and bestow on us all a peaceful and comforting night's rest.....

    Love to you all....

Bethie, glad to hear you were deported..

Renee, good to hear you r dad is on the mend and getting out of the hospital tomorrow.

Juannelle, I don't mind snakes, but a rattler would freak me out big time...how do you get rid of those guys...just let them go away on their own?

Sherri, we are enjoying that awesome weather here in Ottawa.  love it...I am off this weekend as well...yah me.

Bethie ~ congrats on the port removal !

Renee ~ Glad dad is doing better !

Psalm ~ I got saline.  I am 3 weeks post surgery, am still sore.  The saline are a bit harder then I had hoped for.  I am hoping they will start to feel like a part of me... but ~ I still have that feeling that something foreign is in me.  Not sure what will happen with this pair of foobies.  It is depressing as I thought I would feel more normal and I don't.  And I have a tender spot on what was the cancer free side I will have to have my BS look at next weeks check up.

    ugh ~~

    Alicia,

I don't have personal experience but do hope that time will make you more comfortable with your implants. It is all so much to get used to. When do you see your BS again? "They" say bad stuff does not usually hurt so fingers crossed for some minor dohickey that you are feeling. I bet you look great.

    Hi ladies,

Renee-Glad to hear your dad is doind well and able to come home. That is great news.

Alicia- I, like Pam, don't have personal experience with reconstruction, but I hope that you soon feel better about things. Also, I am hoping that the tender spot you have is nothing more that post surgical tenderness. Keep us posted :)

Juanelle- Holy Cow! A snake in the yard that you would have been gardening in with your grandkids! That is enough to freak me out! I freak out about spiders, that are not poisonous, I can't imagine an encounter with a poisonous snake. Thank God it was the gardener and not you, and good thing he didn't get hurt by it either.

Not much to report on my end. Just, now that the weather here is starting to warm up and I am more active I am noticing more swelling in my hand. And I feel like I have nothing to counter the swelling. I need to get a custom garment, but don't have the $$. Today it is approaching the 80's here and my hand is pretty puffy. Oh well, what to do?

    Hugs

    Jen

Juanelle - that's a big snake....very scary. I wonder if there is anything that can be used to keep rattlesnakes away?? I used Critter Ridder in my garden when we have voles.

  • pj12
    pj12 Member Posts: 18,108

    Juanelle,

So glad your gardener encountered the snake and not you! But you would not be up on a ladder trimming your palm trees, would you?!  Snakes are pretty common in Florida too. But a rattlesnake gets your attention! DH and I were standing by a palm tree one day and a snake fell out of the tee at our feet... it was briefly stunned, then slithered away. Us too!

    Jen,

Does the warm weather make LE swelling worse? I sure hope not as we are in for a long summer. And if you have to wear a sleeve all summer! Jo Jo, get out your magic wand!

    Psalm,

It must be very hard with your mom's illness. You are doing so much to help her, Don't forget to take care of yourself!

    Goof vibes to everyone!

Since I didn't encounter the rattler, I didn't ask what happened to it.  But I can imagine.  We use to keep lots of cats around, but it was too expensive and they multiply really fast and it seems if you catch them and get them fixed, those are the ones that disappear.  When we had cats we didn't have snakes, so we may have to get more cats.  We have two Jack Russells, you would  think  they would  keep them out.

The weather should be really pretty in Texas this weekend, but I have to work, so there goes the weekend.  I will have to work for the next 4 weekends.  Sort of  spoils spring, but I have been doing this for 23 years.  I am so ready to retire.

Alicia, we have heard that moth balls will help keep them out of the yard.  I think that is what we are going to try first.  You know rattlers are shy and will avoid people and pets if  possible, but sometimes they just can't get away fast enough.

Jen, sorry to hear that your arm is still giving you trouble.  JoJo needs to get  busy, she has a lot of wand waving to do.  I don't think the gardener was hurt, but he probably had to clean himself up. lol

Renee, good to hear that your dad is well enough to go home.  Hope he continues to improve.

Michele, I would normally let the snake go, but I would  have to relocate it and I am not sure that I would relocate a rattler.  We are just going to be more careful, especially with the grandkids.

Psalm121, I quit smoking about 25 years ago.  I do miss it sometime, but am so glad that it was one habit that I could get over.  Hope  you mom is doing better.

Pam, hope you are able to get out and enjoy spring weather. It must really be nice to live in Florida,  where you mostly have  nice weather.  Texas is nice, but it gets so hot here,  but I don't want to live anywhere else.

Juanelle sorry to hear you have to work 4 weekends straight.  What kind of work do you do that requires that kind of dedication?  :=)  You are a strong lady!!  I have been putting in some long hours myself, some nights I don't get home till 5:30 or 7:00 p.m. it just depends.

My dad is at home and doing o.k. he is feeling a little krappy, but I guess that is to be expected.   He is strong and will heal quickly.  The doctor says he can start driving his Rig again in a month.  haha, he said he didn't know if he would wait that long.

    Alicia I'm sorry your having problems feeling whole after your new foobs.  I guess that would be expected.  It may take some time but hang in there.  {{{hugs}}}

Juannelle, a rattle snake.... I don't like snakes, I've experienced them when I lived in Arizona and seen them in my travels, I would have screamed and they would have heard me two counties over.  Palm Tree can also have scorpions living in them, they love it up there so be careful. Hope you are getting enough rest these days.

Renee glad to hear your dad is doing well.

Jen, my insurance paid for my custom garment.  Before I got a jobe sleeve that goes over the shoulder and a hand grade 1 for about $60.  Also if your doctor works in a large hospital, a burn sleeve and hand is very light weight and works well in summer and cost like $25 or sometimes the burn centers will give you them for free if you explain why you need them.  I'm so sorry that your hand is swelling.  I understand the pain and problems that must be happening.  I wish I lived near you to try and help you get the right garment so that you could control the swelling.  I really hope that things calm down.

Now Bethie this is how my mind is not working these days, Michelle said I'm glad you got deported and I thought you were here on a visa and something happened and you were going to be deported while you were dealing with BC.  Finally I got it and it must be a great feeling to finally get your port out.

Psalm, I hope your mom gets better and that you have a wonderful Easter together.

Alicia, I can't have reconstruction, but I have friends who have.  They needed to do massage on their breast because of the muscle spasms.  They were tender and sore for months.  Hope it feels better soon.

I'm going to color eggs tomorrow and my girls are baking breads preparing to have a reflective Easter as we did during Passover.  Having family who celebrate both and keeping up this week just after surgery has made me so tired.  I found myself sleeping in front of people at the dinner table.  I couldn't believe that I was that worn out from everything.   Hopefully I can play catch up next week.  Will meet with Onc Surgeon on Monday, he wants to go over what he took out, I could tell by his voice more nodes have cancer.  He called saying we need to go over things and he didn't want to talk on the phone, he's very open, I just know his voice and when he's concerned.  So I'm ready for a good fight with this BC, I refuse for it to take over.  I have to have BRAC test, and another didn't understand next week.

I must say all you women are all so positive and strong, just reading your posts gives me such courage to go on.

    Hi y'all,

Thanks so much for the regards and best wishes for Momma....she is even better today and we are all looking forward to our Easter week-end together as well as celebrating a little niece's birthday.  aaaahhhh looking at life through the little one's eyes is extremely encouraging...she's full of happiness and shares it joyfully all around her!!

M360....you speak of others being so positive and strong....right back atcha!!  You inspire me with your stength and give us all encouragement with your thoughtful, caring way.

Pam.....My Momma is an exceptional lady and my sister, brother and I are trying our best to keep her in good spirits and strong enough to stay with the healing process.  I don't know what I'd do without them, we are in this together and they are doing all they can along with kids and jobs, etc, too.

Renee....sounds to me like you come by your strength and stamina honestly!  Your Dad is amazing to be doing so well after all he's been through!  Continuing to pray for his health.

Alicia....sure do hope your soreness eases.  I've been having these inklings that even with surgery I will never be the same old me.  I worry that I'll be so uneven in shape that it'll be obvious no matter what I wear....one boob is natural & 45 years old----the other will be with an implant and firmer and perkier....oooohhh  my!

Hope you all have a good evening!

JoJo:  I spelled magic with a j and thought it didn't look right, but couldn't remember the correct way!  But, then I decided that JoJo's majic wand would be with a J anyway!!!

Renee, I work at a Nuclear Power Plant.  I write operations procedures and am administrator of a computer program.   We have two reactors and we have to refuel them every 18 months.  Well we start an outage tomorrow to refuel one of them and the outages usually last about 25 days.  During the outage we have to work lots of hours, the outages always are in the spring and fall, when less electricity is being used.  I have been there 23 years and it is just part  of life now.  Last year when we had the other unit down, I started my chemo right in the middle and my helper had to do all the hard work for me.  I wasn't  lots of help and I felt really bad, but wouldn't put my chemo off until after the outage.   I have  been putting in some long hours also, working until 8:00 some nights and I live an hour away from work, so it makes for a really long day.

M360, thank goodness I didn't find the snake.  I always walk around bare footed and I guess I should quit doing this,  I will just have to be more careful.  Have a good time coloring eggs, I miss doing all those things now that my kids are grown.

Psalm121, I am so glad that your mom is doing better.  I lost both my parents when I was young, so when I got married, I just took over my husband's parents.  I would tell  him that if we ever got a divorce, I would get his parents.  Enjoy your time with your mom.

Hoping everyone is going to have a great weekend and do some egg hunting.

I am trying to enjoy the nice weather haven't been on the computer much. Hope everyone enjoys family and friends this weekend.

1-L, et al: just because you don't have kids at home doesn't mean you can't go buy some Paas and dye & decorate your own eggs!  I didn't become a mom until I was 41 and prior to that I still dyed eggs.  I don't even eat hardboils-but I'd make them and take them to church & pass them out to folks who did!  DD is 15 & there has been no mention of E.E. Coloring so I'm gonna have to take the bull by the horns & do them myself again I guess (she'll help once she sees what I'm up to).

Eph3_12 - so glad I read your post.  I forgot to buy the egg kit and need to get one tomorrow. Paas has a new tie dye kit that my daughter wants to do. She's taking a kids cooking class tomorrow where she'll make and decorate a bunny cake.

Juannelle - sounds like your work is very rewarding and critical and you sound like such a team player.

We've been enjoying record-breaking warm weather here in Ontario. It was so nice to have the day off rads due to Good Friday statutory holiday and to spend with the family in the beautiful weather.  We walked the dog and my daughter went on her scooter and we stopped for a Popsicle. What a great day!!

    Sugar Sherri,

Did it take BC for us to really appreciate the simply things in life? Your time with your daughter is so precious. What a great day!

My DSD (step) told me a story of her mom (deceased) making her a ham sandwich when she was home sick from school as a little girl. It was a mundane thing but she remembers it as one of her favorite moments with her mom. You just never know when you are making a memory!

    Happy Easter everyone.

    Happy Easter Everyone!

I hope you enjoy your weekend with family and friends.

We are having my MIL over for dinner tomorrow night but we're having salmon instead of turkey or ham.  I guess it's a West Coast thing!

I'll have to pick up something chocolate for the kids today!  I totally forgot and didn't think they'd "need" it because they're teens - 14 & 16 - but they asked me if I remembered to get them some Easter goodies.  So I guess I better go out and get some!

Sherri - I've been following your weather closely.  I'm going to ON for the May long weekend for my niece's graduation.  She's actually graduating from a US college but I'll spend some time with my family before we go across the border.  I'm originally from Burlington and I used to live/work in Mississauga (for Peel Board of Ed) years ago until I retired and moved out West (LOL I was 33!).

I hope the weather stays nice but traditionally the May long weekend has always been rainy!

Alicia - I'm sorry to hear that your new foobs feel foreign.  I can only imagine that anything implanted would take some getting used to regardless of it being saline or gel.  With time I hope that you get used to them.

I'm sorry I'm not very good at the individual replies but I do hope the best for all my sisters on this group and follow along with your posts.

    Hugs to all,

    Marie

    MarieK or anyone,

Someone told me we all now need passports to cross from Canada to US or visa versa. Is that true? Also need them for cruises? Mine has expired and DH has not had one for years.

Yes you do need a passport! I believe that came into effect a while ago - last June? - no more just getting over with your photo id!  It has to be a passport now.

Thanks for the reminder - I don't usually take my passport when I go home to ON but since I'll be going across the border I'll need to remember to bring it!

Looks like I will not be crossing any borders any time soon. But I guess I should renew my passport just in case I win an all expenses paid trip to Paris!

Marie, my teenage girls asked the same thing about Easter baskets.  When I said to my 15 year old that maybe she's too old for an Easter basket, she said, "You're never too old for a basket of candy!"  I had to agree with her!

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend.  It's a gorgeous day here, sunny and in the 80's, but I'm stuck inside doing homework :(.  I may give that up in a few minutes, it's just too nice outside!

    Blessings to all!

Shelby - Yes you should go out and enjoy a few minutes of sunshine - you need to get your vit d!

Well I popped up to the store - no baskets for the kids but I did pick up some Lindt chocolate bunnies and 3 nests and eggs for the table.

    I think I'm set!

I just finished stuffing little chocolates into plastic eggs so I can hide them tonight. I hope my dog doesn't find them before my daughter. Chocolate and dogs are a lethal combination. Too bad they don't make 85% cocoa dark chocolate eggs with all the antioxidants for us. Happy Easter to everyone who celebrates.

Alicia, I did not have new foobs but I did have a hip replacement in 2008 and it took about a year and a half to get rid of that "foreign" feeling.  I would think in time they will feel natural and you won't think of it.

Great day we planted potatoes, beets, lettuce, spinach, bok choy and carrots today!! I just love Spring, wil have to spend a little time cleaning house after the MSU game!

Pam, you do need a passport on a cruise, also.  Especially if you are going to Mexico.  I am not sure about crossing the border into Mexico, but I think you do, but I can't imagine why anyone would want to do a borer crossing to Mexico, with the drug war and everything.

Renee, the job  started out as just a regular  job and I never thought about staying at one place this long.  But I started out as a clerk and now I am an Engineering Tech.  I had a really good boss that helped me advance and kept pushing me to learn and it paid off in the end.  I am very fortunate to have a good job, I live in a depressed area and that is why I drive 50 miles one way to work.  The job has been very good for me.  I did work for the company that owns the power plant, but about 4 years ago we were outsourced and I retired from the mother company and reapplied for my job.  They hired me back, so one Friday I left work as a retired person and came back on Monday with a new company, working in the same office and doing the same thing that I did before.  I have never gotten over being thrown off the bus by the mother company,  but the job is still good.  That may be TMI, but .... lol

eph3_12, I was going to dye eggs with my grandson the other day and completely forgot.  He is 5 and I think he would have really enjoyed it, but Maw Maw just forgot.  I should have gone to the store and bought everything I needed to do it before he got here, he doesn't like to go to the  store once he gets to my house.  Maybe next year.

Pam, you are right about what small things will make memories.  Once when I was about 15, several months before my mother died, we were in the grocery store and she never just allowed me to put stuff in the basket.  Well, I picked up a comb and threw it in and she didn't say a word, just let it go.  I still have that comb and use it everyday, OK, when I have hair I use it.  It will not be long.  But who would have thought that I would  still have that comb 36 years later and still use it.

OK, since Pam brought it up ladies, tell us one of your favorite childhood memories.

One of my favorite is when I was little we lived in an old house that was drafty and cold.  When my dad would get up in the morning I would get  up with him and he would wrap me in a blanket and hold me until everyone  else got up.  He was my rock.   He taught me the softer side of life.

Girls,  have a great weekend and don't eat too many chocolate eggs.

Juannelle, what a wonderful memory of your mom!

I knew I would be down with all the surgeries, I'm one of those mom's that is always prepared.  Coloring eggs is something very important with my family, and knowing that my girls (15 and 16) would want to do something special this year I ordered a great egg coloring kit from William Sonoma.  Plus got baskets out that they have had since they were little and made baskets up of their favorite candies.  Plus a little something special for each one in a special egg.

Okay here is one of my favorite childhood memories.  My father was Russian Greek Orthodox, so Easter is the most important holiday.  Six weeks of fasting of just fruit and vegetables, a total vegan diet leading up to the great Easter feast.  My Aunt would bake all these special cookies and breads which we call Pascha (a sweet bread made with white raisins).  My father would color eggs from onion skins and also red or the elaborate Russian eggs.  Church was all night long standing, then at midnight the church began "Christ has Risen" and then the other side would respond "He has truly Risen".  When you go to someones home you exchange eggs the persons house you enter says "Christ has Risen" and the visitor does the reply, you give them your painted egg and they give you one of theirs. Then the kissing on each cheek, then a third.  At three in the morning after fasting, the smell of homemade sausages (which everyone would want at our house because my father made from scratch.) the Pascha bread, and the breakfast feast was so amazing.  Aunts, Uncles, cousins and friends all sharing this breakfast at our home and my mothers face, and the caring and sharing was a memory so strong.  My parents have been gone for years now, but my girls and I sat today talking about the egg hunts, the amazing love and sharing that happened with all.  Something we all miss but hold dear.  We are all that are left in the family.  All have passed but the traditions and love continue. We have a  special prayer of remembrance.  It makes me cry every time we pray for those who have passed, memories overflow.  For me it is always about a moment, it's never about money or a gift, more about time given and shared, like Pam said it's the simplest but purest form of love that we remember.

    Happy Easter to you all.
