Happy Feast of the Epiphany, everyone! May your year be filled with precious gifts of all kinds as meaningful as the ones that Balthazar, Melchior and my favorite Gaspar presented to our child Savior. I for one will filled my apartment with diffused frankincense (Gaspar's gift) and myrrh and wearing the only real gold jewelry I have.

Have you heard about the medical research that's being done to use frankincense to treat breast cancer?

I didn't actually decorate for Christmas this year. I just didn't have the energy to do it - chemo has really been wiping me out. Traditionally this is when I'd take the tree down. The manger stays up a week or so longer - today is when I like to add the Wise Men.

    Again, Happy Epiphany!!

    Give you a little chuckle.

My parish church has a huge set of banners for the nativity story. They look similar to these

    image

Someone, who I am guessing was not very visual, hung them up this year, one side of behind the altar.

For starters they only put two of them up.

They hung the centre (stable) and the left one (wise men).

BUT they hung the wise men up on the right hand side instead of the left.

Our banners have star rays spreading out across the three banners from the central star so that they should match up. So in the wrong order not only are the wise men going the wrong direction, but the star rays are all over the place too.

The first Sunday of Advent I saw this Graphic Design Crime Scene as soon as we got into church and I nudged DS (age 21) and said "the wise men are never going to get there". He looked up and saw what I meant immediately and for at least ten minutes had his face buried in his hands, apparently deep in prayer, while his shoulders were shaking with laughter. Oh what a bad mamma I am.

I hadn't the heart to tell anyone behind the scenes that it was done wrongly. They meant well.

Happy New Year to you all.

first time on this section of BCO.

I am only wanna be Catholic not that pious.

just would like to share my experience I had during radiation.  the rad techs made me hold my breath  almost every time.  Every breath hold was possible by just doing Hail Mary in my head.  Towards the end it was little bit more difficult to hold. So I did Hail Mary slower. It worked.

Me too Castigame. I always prayed everytimethat machine was turned on. Prayed for God to kill off the cancer cells but protect the rest of my body. Sometimes with tears running down my face and unable to move to wipe them away

During my last bone scan, I repeated the Our Father and Hail Mary over and over..just visualized Rosary beads! The prayers were very comforting and helped me to relax. I was ready to curl up and take a nap on the gurney.

Just read the last 3 posts here, and I was also praying during rads. It all started when I experienced vertigo during my 2nd or 3rd day of rads. I wanted to yell to the rads tech to stop the machine because I wanted to get up. But then I just stared at the photo on the ceiling and visualized our Blessed Mother in that photo, while praying for the dizziness to stop, and it did! After that day I kept my mind busy by staring at that photo on the ceiling and praying the rosary. Someone had asked me once how long my treatments were, and I told them it was one decade long (more or less)!

I, too, prayed all the way through my bone scan...prayed to God, Jesus, every saint I could think of and to my mother and father to ask God for a clean scan. It was clean! Now, I will do the same for my CT scan Tuesday. Many members of my family are praying novenas to St. Peregrine, patron saint of cancer patients. I pray for all of us.

With God all things are possible and His will be done

CENOK2017: Have you heard of a flying novena? It was prayed by St. (Mother) Teresa in times she didn't have time to do a full novena. It's basically the Memorare prayer said 9 times for your special intention, then a 10th time as a prayer of Thanksgiving. My local priest forwarded this article to me which shares a time that Mother Teresa prayed it: http://www.ncregister.com/blog/joseph-pronechen/mo...

I prayed this during BC treatment last year when I had an infection and it cleared up. Praying that you get good news tomorrow!

(This is from http://www.praymorenovenas.com/ I will post the 9 days on here daily.)

Day 1 - The St. Peregrine Novena

    (Audio/Video Version)

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Dear holy servant of God, St. Peregrine, we pray today for healing.

Intercede for us! God healed you of cancer and others were healed by your prayers. Please pray for the physical healing of…

    (Mention your intentions)

These intentions bring us to our knees seeking your intercession for healing.

We are humbled by our physical limitations and ailments. We are so weak and so powerless. We are completely dependent upon God. And so, we ask that you pray for us…

Pray for us, that we will not let sickness bring us to despair

We know, St. Peregrine, that you are a powerful intercessor because your life was completely given to God. We know that in as much as you pray for our healing, you are praying even more for our salvation.

A life of holiness like yours is more important than a life free of suffering and disease. Pray for our healing, but pray even more that we might come as close to Our Lord as you are.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Thanks for this lovely thread and community, in Christ. While asking "why me" at times, even now, I came to realize that to be a cancer patient is indeed a CALLING. A calling to acknowledge the weakness of human, the silliness of trying to take care of our life, a calling to fully surrender to Him, to know that He is the answer.

Before my surgery I've received the sacrament of anointing. The moment the priest put the oil on my forehead, the lesion within my breast felt warm, as if it was burning. I knew it was healing from God.

Some member said this when knowing my dx - this is not the end of the world, instead it is the beginning of a new life.

    Can't agree more.

I hope everyone here is having a good week. I love seeing an alert that there has been a new post on this thread!

There is a Catholic phone app that I'd like to recommend to you. It's called "Discerning Hearts". It is filled with both audio and text versions of prayers, devotions, novenas, scripture, writings of the saints, spiritual talks, etc. I've been using it when out on a walk, or for meditation time, falling asleep, etc. There is so much material available in the app that I think it would be hard not to find something that "speaks" to you.

    I also love The Memorare.

CENOK2017: St. Agatha's memorial day is coming up on February 5th. I ask for her intercession every day, along with the intercession of St. Joan of Arc, for courage. Another helpful prayer is for healing, asking for the intercession of Our Lady of Lourdes. I've got Holy Water from Lourdes, which I sprinkle over the areas that need healing.

O ever immaculate Virgin, Mother of mercy, health of the sick, refuge of sinners, comfort of the afflicted, you know my wants, my troubles, my sufferings; deign to cast upon me a look of mercy. By appearing in the Grotto of Lourdes, you were pleased to make it a privileged sanctuary, whence you dispense your favors, and already many sufferers have obtained the cure of their infirmities, both spiritual and corporal. I come, therefore, with the most unbounded confidence, to implore your maternal intercession. Obtain, O loving Mother, the grant of my requests. I will endeavor to imitate your virtues, that I may one day share your glory, and bless you in eternity. Amen.
