    Agatha, thank you for sharing. St. Agatha is one of my favorites.

    In addition to asking Our Lady of Lourdes for healing, I have prayed daily for the intercessions of: Saints Agatha (because she had her breasts cut off when martyred), Joan of Arc (for courage to face everything), and Lawrence (my first stressful stereotactic biopsy was on his feast day / I contemplated how he was grilled to death when martyred, which made my biopsy procedure seem easy). All of the holy communion of saints, pray for us

    Emgee, best wishes for your treatment, health and healing. You are never alone. And having faith arms you with that knowledge.

    Welcome, Emgee! Sorry you have to be here but glad you found us. I second what Agatha said that it DOES get easier with time - I promise! And what Elaine said! There are blessings to cancer. You may not see them initially, but they certainly emerge over time. The Lord works all things together for good to those who love God and are called according to His purpose. That includes cancer. :-) Please keep us posted with your journey...if you want. :-)

    Agatha, Thank you for the good advice. I've been a little concerned because of sensations around my abdomen - already had colonoscopy/endoscopy and all looks well. Apparently ILC can migrate to the peritoneum which lines the stomach and other internal organs (I've been reading too much for my own good, lol!). Anyway, I've recently read that mixed BC behaves differently than straight ILC or IDC, but researchers are just beginning to understand this. I'll discuss it the next time I see my oncologist :-) I'm so glad the chemo knocked out both for you!! BTW...what does pCR stand for?

    Redemptive,

    pCR = Pathologic Complete Response

    Breast cancer patients who do chemo before surgery sometimes discover that the chemo has wiped out all the active cancer. In some cases, achieving pCR is associated with higher survival rates. In my case, chemo wiped out all of the active cancer in the breast and compromised node, but the pathology report said that I had a tiny pocket of DCIS. So, it's a good thing I had surgery anyways.

    Hello, ladies. This week I was in the neighborhood of my old parish so I stopped into the church. There was a new side shrine dedicated to Blessed John Henry Newman. Written on the wall was one of Newman's poems that really spoke to feelings I've had throughout my time with cancer: the fear, the anxiety, the stubbornness, the faith... all of it! I thought I'd share it with you. I hope it speaks to someone else :-)

    Lead, Kindly Light, amidst th'encircling gloom,
    Lead Thou me on!
    The night is dark, and I am far from home,
    Lead Thou me on!
    Keep Thou my feet; I do not ask to see
    The distant scene; one step enough for me.

    I was not ever thus, nor prayed that Thou
    Shouldst lead me on;
    I loved to choose and see my path; but now
    Lead Thou me on!
    I loved the garish day, and, spite of fears,
    Pride ruled my will. Remember not past years!

    So long Thy power hath blest me, sure it still
    Will lead me on.
    O'er moor and fen, o'er crag and torrent, till
    The night is gone,
    And with the morn those angel faces smile,
    Which I have loved long since, and lost awhile!

    Meantime, along the narrow rugged path,
    Thyself hast trod,
    Lead, Saviour, lead me home in childlike faith,
    Home to my God.
    To rest forever after earthly strife
    In the calm light of everlasting life.

    feelingfeline,

    Beautiful! What name did she choose? My daughter chose Sarah, and I chose Therese.

    Nice Smile.

    She chose Micaela. St Micaela worked with women duped into prostitution. The equivalent of traffic-ed women today.

    Mine is Lucy. Which truthfully I have to admit was because I really liked the name Lucy at the age of 11! Not that I have anything against it now), but it was more from that than from sincere devotion to St Lucy at the time of my confirmation. St Lucy was an early Christian martyr.

    Micaela is a lovely confirmation name as is Lucy. In my home parish, we had a statue of St. Lucy -- she had her eyeballs on a tray... I'm not quite sure what happened to that statue because it's not there anymore when I visit my parents.

    Feeling Feline - your daughter is gorgeous! Happy Confirmation Day to her! How great that she chose the name of a saint who is so relevant today.

    At mass yesterday evening we had a sister do a mission appeal. She was a member of an order in the Philippines whose sole mission is to rescue women and children from prostitution and human trafficking. It is a young order but growing, Sisters of Mary Queen of Heaven. They house the women and children, send them to school if young or teach them employable skills so they can survive on their own when they are ready. I always take for granted how blessed I was to grow up in a safe place with access to an education. It changes everything.

    St. Peregrine was with me during my journey through cancer. It’s been ten years. I am so grateful he interceded on my treatment. Very powerful prayer.

    I haven't been on here in awhile but glad I jumped on. Thank you for the poem, Agatha NYC! I was diagnosed with early stage breast cancer, but it's still one step at a time through the fears regarding tomorrow, though for me fears have lessened over time. They still tend to rear their ugly heads when I feel an unusual pain or sensation. Guess that's for the duration of life's journey. But I trust the Lord is continuing to lead me through each day and has plans for me that are not meant for harm, but are good.

    FeelingFeline, thank you for sharing the picture of your daughter; she is absolutely stunningly beautiful! Congratulations to her on her special day!

    Question for anyone regarding patron saint names: When you were confirmed, did the priest "pronounce" you with the new name? Or was it mentioned in some way during the ceremony? I'm a convert - been Catholic for 5 yrs - and we were told during RCIA to choose a saint's name...but then that was it. Nothing else was said about it. For the record, I chose St. Elizabeth of Hungary.

    Redemptive at DD's confirmation each candidate was called out by their Christian AND confirmation name. At DS's I don't remember this happening, I think it was just said at the point when the sign of the cross was made on his forehaead. Ayt mine (100 years ago) that was definitely the way. Thought the role call at DD's was very nice.

    Today is my last radiation treatment. Thank you Holy Mary Mother of God for your love. To remain calm during treatments I Prayed the Rosary🙏🏼 It took away my anxiety. Hopes this helps someone else.

    Was anyone here in PA for the World Meeting of Families 2015?

    We are having WMOF 2018 here in Dublin. I am booked to go to the 5 days of events with my parish group. Pope Francis will be here for the final 2 days. He has a pretty busy itinerary including time for meeting homeless people and religious and lay volunteers working with the homeless. He will attend the WMOF Concert on Sat Aug 25 and celebrate a large open air mass on Sun 26 Aug.

    Thank you FeelingFeline and Shehula for your input! I guess Shehula's and my experience were the same. We had about 70 people that entered the Church at once, so perhaps that's why.

    Congratulations, Shehula, on finishing your radiation treatments! I know I've prayed the Rosary during scans before - it's so calming! What a gift that prayer is.

    I didn't attend the WMOF but wish I had!! I'm glad you get to go, FF! If you're able to snap some good pictures of any of it I'd love to see them if you would share them here!

    Hello all, it's been a while since I've visited this site. Hope everyone is having a good summer! I'm getting my port out tomorrow, so I'd like to ask for prayers for a successful procedure. I've had it for almost a year now so I'll be so happy once it's out! I'll be going to adoration tonight so I'll say a special prayer for all of you.

    Such wonderful prayers and uplifting posts here...I love this thread! I thought I'd share this prayer to the Holy Spirit that I believe was written by a Fr. James Moriarity (date unknown).

    "Come Holy Spirit,

    Replace the tension within me with a holy relaxation;
    Replace the turbulence within me with a sacred calm;
    Replace the anxiety within me with a quiet confidence;
    Replace the fear within me with a strong faith;
    Replace the bitterness within me with the sweetness of grace;
    Replace the darkness within me with a gentle light;
    Replace the coldness within me with a loving warmth;
    Replace the night within me with Your day;
    Replace the coldness within me with a loving warmth;
    Replace the night within me with your day;
    Replace the winter within me with Your spring;
    Let me see myself as You see me that I may see You, as You have promised.
    Amen."

    Hubby and I say this everyday before I head out on my commute to work each evening. God has given us both grace and strength in our respective journey. Praying this prayer has resulted in my being more at ease in my hectic law firm job as a document specialist despite my advanced age or 66 years old (can't afford to retire, pension not adequate)! God is good!

    Your in my prayers, please keep hubby and I on yours and thanks!
