Sparrowhawk, it is so good to see that your anxiety is rested. How is the job search going?

MCBaker, I didn't realize St. Zelie Martin died of breast cancer. I enjoyed reading these short excerpts from her letters about motherhood and am including, should anyone else want to read them.

Thank you, RS. They are beautiful snapshots of the personality of a remarkable woman, who died far too young.

Thanks all! I am still on the job search. I applied for one last week, but given it's so close to Christmas and there are changes going on in the organisation, it may not be received for a little while. It's a position I would really love to do if it will bring me closer to God. I also know there is a very good chance I will study next year so this will also keep me busy.
FF, I never heard that particular O Antiphon said that way. It's so beautiful!
I am practicing some carols to surprise my sisters on Christmas Eve...singing in two languages! I started learning the guitar this year and really enjoy it, especially when I can bring some joy to others too.

Beautiful mini retreat with the O antiphons
An audio retreat. Ideally listened to while not doing something else. (But in a busy time they can still fit well with certain quiet work like ironing, sewing or even driving when not dealing with difficult driving situations etc)
Session 2 (O Sacred Lord) Audio download seems to be missing but the transcript is there .

Noel
J.R.R. Tolkien
Grim was the world and grey last night:
The moon and stars were fled,
The hall was dark without song or light,
The fires were fallen dead.
The wind in the trees was like to the sea,
And over the mountains' teeth
It whistled bitter-cold and free,
As a sword leapt from its sheath.
The lord of snows upreared his head;
His mantle long and pale
Upon the bitter blast was spread
And hung o'er hill and dale.
The world was blind, the boughs were bent,
All ways and paths were wild:
Then the veil of cloud apart was rent,
And here was born a Child.
The ancient dome of heaven sheer
Was pricked with distant light;
A star came shining white and clear
Alone above the night.
In the dale of dark in that hour of birth
One voice on a sudden sang:
Then all the bells in Heaven and Earth
Together at midnight rang.
Mary sang in this world below:
They heard her song arise
O'er mist and over mountain snow
To the walls of Paradise,
And the tongue of many bells was stirred
in Heaven's towers to ring
When the voice of mortal maid was heard,
That was mother of Heaven's King.
Glad is the world and fair this night
With stars about its head,
And the hall is filled with laughter and light,
And fires are burning red.
The bells of Paradise now ring
With bells of Christendom,
And Gloria, Gloria we will singThat God on earth is come.
J.R.R. Tolkien wrote 'Noel' when he was Professor of Anglo-Saxon at the University of Oxford. It was published in the 1936 Annual of Our Lady's School, Abingdon, Oxfordshire, and remained largely unknown for decades. It was rediscovered in the school archives in 2013 and came to the attention of the media in 2016.

FF, thank you for sharing that poem. I had rarely read any of his works meant for the public that had any overtly religious content. His letters, of course showed more about his beliefs and values.
Yes, it would be wonderful if Laura continued stopping by. I often see old posts from people with dire signatures and assume the worst. It is calming to see the positive. And prayer and faith play a part.

MC I had assumed the same.
FF
That poem is so beautiful. I had no idea about it. Thank you!

Astrid, that last picture is so beautifully symbolic. The church year replays Jesus' life through 2000 years, and the Wise Men still honor His wisdom, even as an infant.

So true MC.
How are you doing?

I am five days past my first Taxol/Herceptin, and the itchy, drippy nose is starting. I need to get busy with benadryl. I hope they don't have to make a big change in my treatment plan.
Going to go to Mass tomorrow morning with friends, then to their house.
My sister had an asthmatic crisis last night, triggered by a respiratory infection. She and BIL are going to come visit and help me with some housework next weekend.

I am so sorry you have to go through all this.
May the Lord bless you and keep you close in His care through this Christmas and into the New Year.
