OK two of the three Heartland 10K Challenge series are done. Neither were my best races, I'm still finding stamina an issue and I think it's from the rads. So hopefully that will get better. But today was good enough for a first place in my age group, which was a shock to me and TBH I cried. It was nearly 80 at 8 am when the race started, and most of it was on trails (I don't run on trails) so I had no expectations of doing anything other than finishing the race.

First Place? That is amazing! I would have to be the ONLY one running in my age group for that to happen to me! Loopy Still in Philly having a great, busy time!

edj congratulations on your accomplishments. I know how you feel, as the whole treatment process changes it all. Stamina. Is. Returning.

I walked 4.5 miles today after work, as it was gorgeous and sunny. I have the back to school cold so didn’t feel up to a hard cardio workout.

Falconer, remind me what you teach. We're already on week 5 for the kids and week 6 for staff in my district. Summer vacation seems like a distant memory!!!

Worked in the garage for 2 hours yesterday. Loaded up the old Surburban with furniture that was my mother's that have just been sitting as well as a few other things, threw stuff in the garbage, swept the floor and organized the garage. DH was gone for the day and when he got home, he couldn't believe how good the garage looked. Still more work to do to get both cars in the garage - for the past few years its been used as a storage place - time to get rid of more stuff!!! Also took down the dog crate and put it in the house. We've had a dog crate in the same spot at the entry to the family room since at least 2005 when we got our 2 Berners - actually I think we had a different dog kennel there when we got our English bulldog around 1999. The room looks so large without the crate at the entry way.

We are going to see my MIL this week-end. I generally don't work Fridays, but with all my holidays next month, I'm flexing days and working Fridays - already beginning to feel the lack of time. I don't know how I ever worked 5 days/week - but I did that for years and years!! I love what I do - but retirement is looking better all the time - counting his year, 3 years, maybe 4 till DD#2 finishes engineering school. Both DH and I want to retire while we are still healthy. He is working 2 years and 3 months - then he'll find a new career!! He's been in sales since 1979!! Before that he was a cartographer.

DD#2 is in Barcelona. Got there yesterday and sent some gorgeous photos. No photos today :( She is there till Wednesday - then back to Israel. The day after she gets back, one of her bff's is getting married. Hard to believe that she is now the same age I was when my DH and I got married. Boy were we young!!!

    Sweet dreams everyone!

Katen love your decluttering stories. We are working on it too. We had an exercise bike in a corner of our bedroom for so long when my husband moved it I literally did not know what he had removed until he pointed it out!

Exercise was a 30 minute walk around the lake today. My knee has been acting a little tricky now and then but it behaved.

edj well done on a 1st. - awesome!! Falconer, hope the cold passes quick. New yin class started yesterday and the women who owns this gym, just found out she has throat cancer - ugh. Enjoy Philly Ruth and love to see photos too.

Learning new release for bodybalance/flow and keeping active daily - let's keep at it!

Congrats on the first place finish, edj! I will wait a few more years so I'll be the youngest in an age category and maybe I can also be first.

Sorry to hear about Jackson, mommy.

Rest day yesterday, apart from dogwalking.

Heading to Columbus this morning - we were planning on leaving Friday morning but hospice nurse called DH last night and suggested we come earlier if at all possible. My MIL is continuing to decline. Prayers for her that she is not suffering and has an easy passing. Damn, this is hard - its only 20 months since my mother passed away and 6 1/2 years since my father. My FIL passed away in 1983.Soon we will be the "senior" generation! Matriarch and Patriarch of our family - aren't we too young for that in our mid 60s? My MIL is an amazing lady - full of strength, independence and so positive. Off to finish packing and get a morning walk in before we head to the airport.

I am back from my wonderful History Vacation. I went to bed about 1:30 but got up and walked with the Wednesday Women today.

Since some have asked for, here are some highlight pictures from Philadelphia.

First, you have to start with Philadelphia Cheesesteak:

The Museum of the American Revolution just opened in 2017. It is a wonderful place with many exhibits, films, and interactive activities. The tent below is George Washington's REAL war tent. It was preserved by his family through the years and is now at the museum.

Christ Church was where many of the Founders worshiped. The front window was the biggest in the colonies, the building itself was the tallest building in Philadelphia until 1901. The chandelier was bought used....275 years ago!

My friend and I are sitting in George Washington's pew. Betsy Ross and her family's pew in on the other side of the divider.

The beautiful cemetery includes the graves of 5 of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. Benjamin Franklin & his wife lie by the gate, their daughter & her husband lie next to them.

OK, a couple more before the next thing on my list. I don't think you will care about pictures from the baseball game and they don't let you take pictures in the U.S. Mint, so it's on to Elfreths Alley, which is an historic street in Philadelphia. It's 32 houses have been continuously occupied since 1713. One house has been left as it was in those days as a museum.

Of course, when in Philadelphia you have to take your picture Rocky and run up the steps at the Art Museum.

We spent a morning at Valley Forge. In the winter of 1777, a ragtag group of soldiers set up camp at Valley Forge. That spring they left as a united fighting force and a band of brothers.

Baron Von Steuben. Ben Franklin met this eccentric Prussian officer while he was our Ambassador to France. He lobbied Congress hard to hire him to come over and instill discipline in our troops. With Washington's full support he turned the men into an elite fighting force then, and laid the foundation for the United States military of today.

One more set before I have to buy groceries.

We stopped in at a very old and interesting Quaker Meeting House. Quaker women were equal to the men and were used to having their voices heard. Many of them became leaders in the Abolitionist Movement and of the Suffragettes. Lucrettia Mott, Susan B. Antony, and Alice Paul were all Quakers.

We did an event called Independence After Dark. An Irish printer is our guide back to 1776. We had an 18th century dinner at the historic City Tavern, and then sneaked into Independence Hall where we eavesdropped on Jefferson, John Adams and Ben Franklin discussing the Declaration of Independence.

Eastern State Penitentiary was once the most famous and expensive prison in the world. It now has a very haunted feel. They do scary tours at night during October for Halloween.....it was creepy enough for me in broad daylight!
