Ruth, that is a majestic dog!

Definitely not a lap dog!

I am also an outdoor exerciser. I hate being indoors in general!
We had heavy rain yesterday so I did weights indoors but today I got out and mowed the sky high yard.
What,I missed National Dog Day? This one would also rather be outside.

Another cute dog!
Pound this morning, took a dog walk this afternoon, and will go back for Barre. It is cloudy, windy, and very cool for being August here.

I admire those who enjoy running (My Mom was a huge runner: for several years she held her age category in the Pike's Peak Marathon)...but I hate it. Probably because of my knees (which are now both bionic). I enjoy walking and do love hiking (did a lot of backpacking as a teenager and young adult and did way too much fast walking up and down trails in the California Sierra Nevada, often wearing a fifty pound pack, which probably was what did in my original knees...)....but swimming is and will always be my favorite exercise. I love the water and I'd still rather be in (or under, I also love scuba) the water (pool, ocean, lake, you name it) then anywhere else! Biking is fun too, but I don't do it as much as I used to .....

A beautiful morning here for a walk with the Wednesday Women.

You are wearing sweatshirts?? I'm so jealous. I'm in FL for work, here's how hot it got yesterday. Notice the heat index.

OMG, I couldn't stand it!!! I would much rather be cold and shoveling snow (if those were my only two choices)!

I'm enjoying the cool mornings - so nice to walk at 6:30 or 7 and not be hot - evenings are also starting to be a little cooler. At 5pm its 89 - don't know what the high was today but in the sun it felt HOT!!
Ruth - always enjoying the pictures of your WWW. I haven't been good about walking during the day as I've been going between schools but I manage to park a little bit away to at least get a few extra steps!! Will wait till after dinner to walk.

edj3: that's exactly what I thought when I saw Ruth's pic! What are those sweater like things? in August? Are they in San Francisco? :-)
My weather here in Northern NM is more like Karen's: cool mornings and very cool evenings but warm days...

It was in the mid-70s this afternoon so DH & I took the dogs for a lake walk (while wearing shorts & tee shirts). It is generally not so cool this early!

Did some "airport power walking" over the weekend as well as "the noodle backstroke " while swimming and playing with my two wonderful grandnieces. Also did a bit of upper arm work carrying/lifting/floating another tiny (small 2 year old) family member for a while. 🌊⛱

We are having perfect weather and I hope it lasts for awhile. I am happy to report I am not yet wearing any jackets nor in 102 degree weather. 75 yesterday. Mowed the back yard and weeded. Although this year we had the coldest winter temps I have ever experienced and a lot of rain and nearly the hottest temps for a period this summer, ironically I think we have had the most number of perfect weather days too. Wild swings though, for sure.

I got my speed work run done today--had to get up at 2AM to get that run in before packing and scooting to the airport for my early flight. I'm flat beat now.

Zumba, Yoga & dog walking. I'm going to a college football game tonight & a high school one tomorrow, so it must be fall!

Good news on my MIL - the MRSA is almost gone - she has almost made it over that hurdle - she still has some other health issues like her heart and to see if she does well on oral meds rather than IV. The hospital is talking about moving her to skilled nursing/rehab on Saturday. I'm not too happy about it, as she has limited number of days in rehab that medicare will pay for, but then again she got the MRSA in the hospital - probably during the second surgery. Last night DD#2 stayed with her grandmother till after midnight as grandma didn't want her to leave - they needed to get a different bed for her - so DD#2 stayed till they changed the bed. I'm so lucky to have such great, caring kids. DD#2 is now at her sister's in Toronto. Poor thing was exhausted and asleep at 9pm - The girls had sister time today, but I haven't heard yet what they did. They also have tomorrow as SIL is working. He is off on the week-end and on Monday. DD#2 comes back to Denver on Tuesday and her sister starts the new school year.
Its heating up here over the week-end. Predicted to be 98 on Labor Day!!!
Sweet dreams

GREAT news on your MIL and yes, you do have amazing children

You do have wonderful kids, Karen. So glad that your MIL is doing so well!
Stay safe, Florida Girls!
I subbed all day & am now off to a football game, so no formal exercise (unless I do something when I get home) but will get at least 10,000 steps just zipping around the classroom and going up & down bleachers tonight.

Happy weekend all. And prayers for those in Dorian's way.
I did a couple hours of gardening yesterday and today, the heavy messy kind. Good upper body work. Weather here is lovely with low humidity. A wonderful rarity this time of year!

An hour of toning with Denise Austin & an hour of walking; nice and cool here!

I went for my first bike ride yesterday. My bike tire needed replacing so I hadn’t been all summer and I really missed it. I did 48 minutes because I wasn’t sure I should start with the 2.5 hour trip up to my walking lake that I like to do. But I feel OK today. I rode around a smaller lake in town and then through the cemetery. My husband said I am creepy, but it’s pretty and serene and historical.
I hope everyone is having a safe and happy weekend. Dorian looks like a doozy for maybe a huge swath of coast.

Twohobbies the biking sounds like fun. That's something I have always enjoyed.
55 minute walk/hike today with dear friends along the C&O canal. Picturesque and (again) cool enough to enjoy. Ruth I do envy your climate sometimes!

Our weather is enviable in the summer; not so much during our long, long, long winters!
I walked yesterday & did some mat pilates (on utube). I will do the same today as my fitness center is shut down for Labor Day.

I have a broken recliner that I am in the process of rolling out to the curb. That is significant aerobic exercise. I will go to the gym later and finish my workout. I go to Anytime Fitness, so I have an electronic tag.

I am back from my wine dinner and vineyard camping adventures. Not that much exercise as it was too hot after 9a, though delightful evenings and nights. I did walk the vineyard twice and I also got in about 20 miles of cycling prior to the dinner. I missed out on tubing yesterday because I have a busy month ahead and needed the time to regroup plus get back prior to today's traffic. My place feels palatial after two nights in a very small tent.
I did get to help out with bottling which I am counting as exercise. Something was wrong with the labeling machine so I was part of a team soaking off all the mistakes and then drying the bottles so they could be relabeled. Until they figured out how to get the labeler working reliably again, there was lots and lots of work on that end. Later on, it was taping up boxes. We got to taste our wares at the end and delicious!
I got to eat fresh peaches off the tree, table grapes from an arbor (spicy and sweet), and sample many of the ripening grapes in the vineyard. So many colors and flavors!
Came back with lots of wine and fresh fruit from the Yakima Valley. Delicious melon, peaches, nectarines, tomatoes....plus a fresh peach and raspberry pie which I had for a late lunch yesterday and will have again for breakfast in a few.
I have decided to wait until November to return and do a hike. They do an Airbnb so I will stay inside. Much more fun to explore the canyon than in the heat.
The wine dinner was delicious, and great fun. We had it on the terrace with the grape arbor overhead. Last night's dinner was also delish. Made a tomato, basil and mozzarella salad, and was delighted to learn that the local version of fresh mozzarella works just splendidly for this dish.
Much cooler here in the Puget Sound area. Hoping to get in about 20 miles of cycling plus a swim today. I need to go swimming once this year, and think today is the day.
Happy Labor Day! - Claire

Cross-Channel annual Labor Day swim from Washington to Oregon at Cascade Locks this morning. 1.1 mile open swim (not a race!) and it was a beautiful morning. I have actually done this for 26 years, but not last year due to health. It feels like a victory to be fit enough to enjoy the swim again this year! First photo is the view from Oregon across the river to Washington where we started:
This is the Sternwheeler that took us over to Washington, where we jumped off, all 450 of us, 10 at a time!
Swimmers crossing, with safety canoes and sailboards lining the course. My favorite thing is to stop during the swim, to enjoy the view from the middle of the river! I love to look up at the sky and at the beautiful hills that line the Columbia Gorge. Scenery all directions!
I did it! After the swim, sunny morning, very happy!

Wow! Thanks for sharing those pictures, Hiking! They make me happy too!

Great pics, Hiking! How awesome to be able to view the scenery mid-river.

We had an interesting evening; a huge 85 mph wind/rain storm blew through town about 5 pm. Semis were tipped over on the interstate. power lines down, branches all over, trees toppled (thank goodness we had our trees trimmed on Thursday, including loping off branches that were rubbing against our roof!). A house down the street had a big tree ripped out of the ground & in landed right on their roof. Yikes!). So we got lots of exercise cleaning up! I went to Pound this morning & am off subbing for the afternoon. Maybe I'll go to Barre tonight.

Haven’t exercised since last Friday before I dropped a full laundry basket on my right pinky toe accidentally.
