We hiked with the dogs this afternoon & I did a 45 minutes toning DVD. No exercise yesterday as I out of town, but we got some glorious rain (for the first time this summer!)

No outside activities today. Hurricane Henri bearing down on us big time here in Westerly, RI. We live on shore line, storm surge is supposed to be big. Stay safe my New England friends

Martaj and all the other gals back east stay safe.

They are saving booster/3rd shot 8 months after 2nd shot, so that is late September for hubby and me. I can't wait. When we had serology tests, my numbers were way lower than my hubby -he had more than 50% more. If antibodies decline with time, by the end of September, I won't have many left.

DH wants to get a new front door - I told him not till we paint the outside of the house. Front and back doors are probably the original, almost 40 years old. Last time we painted, our son did it. He's working too many hours to do it now. I'm going to suggest to hubby that find find a reasonably priced painter to do the outside before the end of the year as he is thinking or retiring - and would rather spend the $ now than after he retires.

Yesterday, I sat outside all afternoon reading and finished a book in one day - i've read 3 books by the same author and love them all. Need to find more books. I still did my cubii, hour walk in the morning and 30-45 minutes in the afternoon.

    Have a great Sunday.

Oh, goodness. Martaj, hope you all were spared any damage. The storm ended up basically washing out for us, so after getting up extra early to walk Little Miss Dog in the dark today in order to make sure she had a decent walk, it turns out it wasn't necessary after all. But I'd rather have a storm be not-as-bad-as-expected than the alternative!

Does anyone else here feel like they wake up in the morning with all the energy/good intentions to exercise and then family stuff just gets in the way? I have really got to find a way to put myself/my exercise first in the mornings. I don't even want to type this, but: when my dog dies, it'll be super-easy to put myself first, since I'll get my first 60+ minutes of my mornings back all to myself. But I don't want to think about that, and having a workable plan in the meanwhile would be a win.

Hope all you East Coast ladies are staying safe. Very scary!

Karen, I already wrote down the first date I will be eligible for the booster on my calendar (November 18th). What intriguing book are you reading>

Saltmarsh, it's always a trade off, isn't it?! I adore Bruno & he's lots of fun, but things were sure a lot easier without a puppy!

I went to Barre Sculpt & did 30 minutes of dancing with Marshall Fitness. Bruno did a couple different play-dates with Ivy, our neighbor dog & his girlfriend. Ivy's family will be out of state for a family wedding so she will be at a kennel for a week...which will make Bruno pretty sad!

Hope Henri does not wreck too much havoc and everyone stays safe. Supposedly Henri is just half the strength of Sandy (in terms of wind and storm surges).

I will be due end of December for a booster shot. I may delay a few months with the thought that two shots will likely lower risk of severe disease anyway whereas vaccine inequity deprives someone from getting a life-saving first shot. And if I do get a breakthrough infection, than I probably won't need a booster shot for another six months if at all. Who knows. I wish reality were a whole lot neater (in moral terms).

Went hiking this weekend in the French part. I was at a place called "Le Lieu" or The Place, at the border of "Le Revers" or The Reverse. Funny names. Sammy made great progress on coming when called.

I had my sprint exercise snack along with the dog's morning toilet run. More sprint snacks later as well as Zumba online.

Well, I'm glad I hopped out of bed early this morning to walk the dog! The bugs drove us back in after 45 min. After that we started getting tornado alerts and then warnings, and it didn't seem wise to leave the house. We had a few dicey hours here, with a tornado actually visible both one town over, and then another one in our town. It set my nerves on edge for hours, but I'm finally starting to relax a little.

    Hope y'all had good days!

    Hi everyone,

Trying to keep a work-exercise balance going. Had to bag my planned ride on Saturday because of a (lucrative) project that showed up on Thursday and was due this morning. So downsized to a couple of good walks that I could do from here. Had a BBQ with a friend and his son/parents/dogs on Sunday. Population density in his smallish house plus downstairs apartment has increased from 1 adult, one teen to 4 adults, one teen and from one to four dogs!

He bought the house just before prices went crazy from the Covid market, and I had helped them move in.

Yesterday, I got the answer to one of the questions that I was wondering about: I had exercised throughout chemo and radiation and I didn't experience chemo brain other than a what would normally be associated with general tiredness when I needed a nap. It looks like I had been onto something! In general, my brain works better when I am well-exercised which was true before I was diagnosed and it's true now.

Here is the research. Very interesting and more reason to keep it in gear! Physical activity linked to stronger cognitive function among women with breast cancer (healio.com)

Just glorious weather here. The past 3 days were quite autumnal and it's in the mid 40s right now. The hot days are history. We should get much-needed rain towards the end of the week. I snacked on blackberries during my walk yesterday. Divine.

Got to get my brain revved as a busy day today. BTW - one way to up mileage walking is to do errands on foot where possible. Usually, only adds a few minutes and it's easy to sneak in a mile or more.

    Happy exercising! - Claire

Claire, I completely believe that continuing to exercise and work is what kept my brain (and the rest of me) healthier during chemo, radiation, AIs etc. etc. etc.

We had a big wind storm last night; so Bruno & I picked up branches and twigs for an hour before I went to Zumba. Barre Sculpt tonight, errands & dog stuff in-between.

Heidi: You are such a kind person. Love the pictures.

Martaj: Please let us know how you are doing!

Saltmarsh: Thankful the tornadoes stayed away from you!

Claire: Thanks for the link to the article.

Ruth: I have a vision in my head of Bruno wanting to play Fetch and all you wanted to do was pick up sticks.

Karen: Who is the author that you are reading?

Hi All! It's so hot here (95 degrees today) that I have been taking it easy. I did walk/run on Saturday and Sunday. Tonight I invited my bil over for supper bc his wife is at the beach with girlfriends.

I can't remember if I have mentioned the volunteer pumpkin patch I have growing in my front yard. My last year's Halloween pumpkin rotted before I cleaned it up and in the spring a pumpkin plant started to grow. The green one in the picture will turn yellow. It weighs 19 pounds. The one I'm holding is 23.8 # and the other on is around 22 #. I've had the best time watching them grow! There is one more still on the vine and I will be cutting it lose soon. (I made the totem pole from empty jugs I collected. Just something fun to do.)

    Nice pictures Heidi and Wonderland!

Here is today's WWW picture. We're celebrating our anniversary. Nine years ago 6 retired teachers went for a walk on the first day of school, and the rest is history!

Henri did nothing to western CT except rain buckets on Monday. Now we have a heat wave brewing.

Anywho, I hung laundry out on the line, worked out and then took my dog on a walk around the block.

M0mmy: So happy you only got lots of rain and no damage.

High of 96 degrees today. Waited until close to 7pm before I walked/ran.

The author is Kristin Harmel. Her books are all historical fiction, mostly about WWII.

A co-worker told me today that they changed it to 6 months not 8 months to get the booster. We are at the 7 month mark. Kim, because of international travel to see my girls, I want to be sure that I have enough antibodies. One month and counting till I can get it (Sept 29).

Thinking of going to DD#1 over the long week-end and Rosh Hashanna. DH doesn't want to travel but said its okay for me to go. It's our 44 anniversary that week-end, but we can celebrate another time. My SIL has been in the hospital since last Friday. At first they thought it was c-diff, but culture came back negative. They've done a. CT scan, sigmoidoscopy, biopsy and other tests. The other day his colon was inflamed and he was retaining fluids. My poor kids just can't get a break. SIL was excited that we might come for RH, but talking to my daughter last night, both DH and I felt like maybe she doesn't want company. This mom is hurting for my daughter and feel like I need to give her mommy time. It's only a week away till I would leave so need to decide tonight as I'm not sure how much flights will be so close to leaving.

I've been back to work since the 16th. The kids started back this week. Masks required for all. The kids are eating outside and can take their masks off for lunch and recess. HR wants proof of our vaccination status - had to upload my vaccination card.

I will have to check out that author, Karen. I love all things history! What did you decide about the trip? It is hard to even know what to do anymore. I'm glad you guys are masking & that they want vaccination proof. None of that is being done here, so it's like being in a time bomb. My Book Club met tonight (all educators). The active teachers, and those who have kids in the profession, are all vacillating between being frantic and being resigned to whatever is going to happen. Very scary.

Speaking of Book Club, I was the host. I spent the whole day house cleaning (I had put it off until the last moment so that it would still be clean when they came over) and then cleaning up & putting things back away after they left, so I got my steps without formal exercise.

Happy International Dog Day to all the dog lovers in the group. Here is a happy Bruno on a hike yesterday.

Ruth - still up in the air - text DD#2 last night and she says she wants to see us/me, but she is so overwhelmed. I don't want to add to her stress. Of course if I went, I would do the cooking etc. She is just so tired. I think her school year starts next week.

Lazy this morning - stayed in bed till 6:15. Did my Cubii for an hour. Going to eat breakfast and then get busy for the day - but first a walk before it gets hot.

Bruno is such a handsome dog.

    Have a great day!

Hello, all! I have been off the group for awhile. Been busy with some travel and visiting friends/family. Just completed reading through all the comments, enjoying everyone's photos, activities and adventures. Condolences to those who have lost family/friends. Daughter (from NYC) flew in for a visit in early August. It was December 2019 the last time we saw her in person. Went to a stunning exhibit at The Speed Art Museum (in Louisville) - the artist re-created historical costumes, all out of paper. Below is a photo of one of my favorites, a replica of a dress worn by Madame Pompadour in the painting shown behind the dress.

    image

Then I took a road trip to NE Ohio to rendezvous with friends/family. We only have one car, since hubs and I are both retired. So, I rented a brand new Camry SE from our Toyota Dealer - drove like a dream and had Satellite Radio, which made the travel time fly by. Photo below is sunset over Lake Erie (in Saybrook, OH), while visiting friends.

    image

Getting back into the groove of exercise, but not doing as many classes as earlier in July.

Martaj - My sister in Stamford, CT and I have fond memories of visiting Westerly, RI. She was on vacay in Cape Cod (Chatham) when all the Henri worries were occurring, but it was no big deal after all, thank goodness.

Very hot/humid here in the greater Cincinnati, OH area. We just had a major rainstorm that dumped buckets, so hopefully some relief is in store. Well, that's all for now. Happy exercising!

Love all the pics! Wonderland, what big pumpkins you have! Ruth, congrats on the WWW anniversary, it's fun seeing everyone keep active. Such a slice of Americana, too. Celia, paper or papier maché costumes? What a great idea in any case!

One of the villages nearby has a Dog Day event next week. Have marked it on my calendar.

Walked and sprinted with the dog and did Zumba with my friends.

What an interesting exhibit, Celia. Tell us more, please!

Heidi, you will have to report on what is included with a Dog Day event!

I did a 90 Denise Austin pilates DVD yesterday & went for a dog walk. No classes today (I think all the teachers are taking their end of the summer vacations), so I will do another toning DVD & more dog walking.

    Hi Everyone!

I love seeing all the exercising posts, and the photos.

I have a question for all of you - and hope you all can help me!

Please let me know what is the name/style of the Lululemon Pant that is closest to being made of thin fabric, but full length (and if possible not tapered leg at end.)

My current exercise pants are Champion pants that I love!  They fit snug, and then around the knee get looser and turn into like a boot cut slight flare at bottom.  I wear them everywhere.  They are so flattering.  Champion discontinued this style and the next style in is so thick the material, and firm panel at the top of the pant that it's not at all flattering nor relaxing to wear.

So I thought of getting Lululemon if I know which style to get.

Or, if you currently have a workout pant that sounds similar to what I am looking for please let me know.  I'm on my last pair of these Champions, lol, and they are seriously what I love to wear all the time. Whether it is working out or grocery shopping, etc.

It's nice reading some familiar names on this forum, and seeing some new ones and reading that all of you are doing well.

    Sending love and hugs!

    Debra Smile

Hi all: I've been off the board a bit too...just extraordinarily busy at work and such....I have managed to more or less keep the exercise up...went to my orthdo doc Thursday, had xrays on my leg done, he told me it is completely healed and to go live my life and he hopes never to see me again! (a good thing given that he is a trauma surgeon :-)).

Today I am doing housework, did some walking, hope to get in a swim this afternoon.

    Take care all!

After a brutal 7 days where I must have done something like 75 hours of work, I slept in this morning and then took myself off for another ride in the Skagit Valley, this time doing 30 miles. Still fit, even though was dragging a bit. Glorious weather, and I could see 4 mountain ranges, including the mountains north of Vancouver BC.

I stopped at Terramar Brewing for amazing Quartermaster IPA and pizza. I think the best crust ever, as local grains and sourdough which are wood fired. I did the cheese personal pizza with some 'shrooms on top. I ate the whole thing. I also bought a multi-grain loaf at the bakery. (I also made bread yesterday, so I should be set for a bit....fortunately it freezes.)

Got to the local veggie and fresh fish place and came home with Alaska Spotted Prawns which were pricey, but very similar to lobster in flavor. I didn't have to cook them, but I did cook up the corn that I got. Amazing....and I didn't even get to the salad I made. 5 more days and I head out to the vineyard for camping and to do my "Assistant Winemaker" gig and quite a bit of partying. Hoping I get to float the Yakima River! So fun the time I got to do it.

I have clams for vongole sauce for tomorrow. Life is certainly tough around here food-wise.

(I think I have screwed up the formula for being "semi-retired" but will focus on this more next year when I no longer have my nonprofit work. I can't wait for a better balance where I can spend a lot more time doing what I did today and a lot less time velcroed to my computer chair.)

The payoff is feeling very fit, mellow, and well-fed. I will take that Happy - Claire

DH and I are going to the local pharmacy to get the booster shot (3rd vaccine). We are both going to pull out all the health Dx cards!!! We are getting tested every 2 week since an outbreak at our synagogue 3 weeks ago - I was not there but DH was. For the high holidays, we will only attend if there is an outside service.

My SIL is still in the hospital and improving very slowly - still treating as c-diff. Colon inflammation is down and GI issues are getting better. My daughter said he is starting to complain about the hospital food, so that definitely is a good sign. Friday when I spoke with my daughter, she said she is overwhelmed and didn't think it was a good idea for me to come. I was stressed all day Friday trying to decide what to do. She knows I would have been there in a heartbeat to cook or whatever she needed, but I told her that whatever she thought was best for her. They will probably move into her in-laws how for the high holidays.

Cooler day today :) and at 9 it is still cloudy :)

I forget who posted, gorgeous sunset photo over Lake Erie.

Survived the first two weeks of school and first week with kids. Just looked at my work emails and there are sooooo many from Friday, but I have not clicked on any to read. I know put my away message on for Fridays since my work week is M-Th. I'm really trying to get better with boundaries.

Off for a morning walk. Plans for the day include getting booster shot, Costco, walking and finish a book that I"m reading.

    Have a great Sunday.

Martaj - gorgeous photo. NED - that is fantastic!

Loving the pictures and inspiring updates! It's still hot here, but there's hope for slightly cooler weather here, around the corner. I returned a few days ago from a week-long trip to upstate NY and Ohio to visit friends and family and to hike in NY. Rainy weather at the start interfered with hiking, but managed to get a couple of short hikes in. Kayaked for an hour one day, but it was tough going with the current and the wake of motor boats. I didn't eat the best, but I didn't snack as much and there was no dessert that I could eat (I gave up dairy a few years ago). Our daughter went with us to NY part of the trip so that was nice. She is starting her last year of college. Fingers crossed for a good year and a real job upon graduation!

I got some walks in while we were visiting family, but now I am back home and able to get back into my routine of walking in the morning, lunchtime, and after work along with weights and a little bike riding. I also started jumping rope a little bit. After jumping 150 times, my heart is beating so fast. Hopefully, I will get my resting heart rate back down to the 50s again.
