Welcome Juju! Glad you found us!
Karen: Thankful your dd didn't get hurt in her wreck. Definitely not a fun way to get a new car but glad you love your Mazda.
Saltmarsh: Wish I could take dance lessons from you. That would be fun! The Livestrong program sounds great.
Ruth: Our health department is starting Moderna booster shots this Monday. Come visit!
Claire: Love reading all your food and wine adventures!
My Halloween Dinner party was a success. I'm drinking Blood Sangria right now. Saltmarsh asked for some pictures so here they are.
Skeleton Vegetables
Spooky 7 layer dip
Shrunken Head Potatoes (they turned out cute)
Mummy Hotdogs
Monster Burgers
Scary Salad

Salt - kind of both - I read mostly on Saturdays and occasionally in the evening. The more books I read, the more I want to read. My favorite genre is historical fiction.
Ruth - I sometimes wonder if I can go this year plus two more. DD doesn't think we should retire at the same time. He is now talking the end of March 2022 instead of the end of 2021. I do enjoy what I do, and I love the special projects, but I realize that trying to do it all in the work day is not reasonable (and has never been), so I need to plan maybe an hour in the evening and some on Sunday.
Looking at fares to go to visit my girls and they are outrageous - some of the highest fares we've paid over the years. Will keep looking before we book. There is time for winter break. Thinking of going to visit DD#1 and SIL the week-end before Thanksgiving. DH really doesn't want to spend as much as we did over the summer seeing DD#2. I like going twice/year.
Off to start getting work done. Will walk when it warms up. Have a great Sunday.

I meet with a group of friends every Sunday at 10am for a hike or bike ride. Fall in Michigan is beautiful. We did a 3 mile hike in an hour out in the woods. We talk about everything and anything. It's so good mentally to not think about cancer for that time. They did help me throughout treatment with these walks and rides. We laughed often and loudly. Their support has meant the world to me! It's all ladies and we laugh because one time a husband came along and did all of the talking! Enjoy your Sunday.

Hi Juju-mar and welcome to this wonderful thread. I took a look at the Facebook site you mentioned (The Recovery Room) and found it to be very informative. Thank you for the mention.
Wonderland, your Halloween dinner party edibles are truly works of art! I am beyond impressed with the items you made. They look incredible and I bet were delicious.
Claire, I like how you have such a positive outlook. It is very inspiring.

Hi All! I had a busy, fun weekend. The wedding we went to was very fun. It was on the small side & very lovely. The groom is the son of one of my oldest friends and the bride is a dentist. What I thought was very cool is that two of her attendants are also dentists & the other is a pharmacist. So all the women in that wedding party have earned the title of 'Doctor'!
I went to Yoga yesterday & Pound this morning. I also got my flu shot so can cross that off my 'to do' list.
Karen, there are advantages and disadvantages to retiring at the same time as one's spouse. I retired a year before DH and kind of liked having that time to figure out what I wanted my schedule to look like before people like to figure that out together.
Alice, your scary food looks so fun! I particularly liked the Monster Burgers with the pickle tongues! The Moderna boosters should be available here within the next couple weeks.
Claire, time will race by now with the end to your work & move in sight!
Juju, you are on the right track with your exercise plans! I am positive that exercise helped me get through treatment in better shape and, for sure, it helped me bounce back faster after I was done. I am glad you have a great group of friends with a set date to get together. I meet up with a group of retired teacher friends every Wednesday morning an do the same.

Claire, you sound so busy and almost normal re your level of activity despite the COVID. DH is scheduled to speak at a conference in Seattle in early December and we had plans to travel out early and spend some time in the San Juan islands before heading back to town for the conference...still on the fence. This would be our first business/plane travel since this all started...but everyone of your posts makes me believe Seattle and environs is as I remember them (despite the fentanyl - yikes!)
Getting back to my routine after Fall Break at school...so wonderful that the beaches of NC are still okay for walking and sitting and reading (70's) even in mid October.
Happy Pumpkin Day (NPR said it was a real thing this morning!). TT

Those monster burgers are fabulous!
I'm enjoying my Livestrong program. Now I just need to kick my own butt on the days we don't meet... Rainy weather here has meant either my dog hasn't wanted to be out as long, or has refused to go out altogether.
I did just order new handlebar grips, and a cushier saddle for my bike, and am hoping to get those installed before the weekend so that I'm no longer in pain and have sticky black stuff on my hands if I use the bike.
I guess that's it for me!

Shift & Lift this morning, bought some pumpkins & did a little fall yard decorating now that my flowers have frozen, had a dental appointment and went to Barre Sculpt tonight.

TrmTab, I see no reason not to go to the San Juan Islands which are lovely even in the rain. Seattle is much grottier than a few years ago, but Pike Place Market is still great fun. Some of the neighborhoods, such as Madrona, are largely unchanged. Which reminds me that I need to sign up for the Oysters and Wne party next week. I also need to pick up my wine club wine in Pike Place.
As for bicycle seats Saltmarsh, let me recommend padded shorts. There is no way I could do long rides without them. That said, I may splurge on a Brooks saddle. My buns are worth the best there is.
I seem to have a bit of post Covid shot congestion, but not nearly as bad as last time. You are right about busy. Wish me luck as I am going to be out straight until Thanksgiving. At least three different projects going on plus planning the move. Glad I have the checklist done! And I think that I have located movers. The place where I want to rent has vacancies, a good sign.
I am hoping to get a ride in Sunday which will be Halloween. Will stay way away from the pumpkin patches.
All the rain and wind have been just thrilling to be out in as has happened with my last 2 walks which were on the breezy side with the most glorious light. I caught a rainbow yesterday evening and a sky that was like a gold fire. Still a fair amount of leaves. I love this time of year. I have the Board Retreat in the mountains Friday and Saturday so will try to get out and walk at least tomorrow when I arrive. Perhaps if I get up early both days.....
I can't wait until Sunday when I pick up my new computer! No more locking up! No more waiting forever for it to boot up. No more having to do a hard reset! No more waiting forever to install system updates.
I can't wait..... I will see though if I need a separate monitor as the Microsoft Surface Go (laptop, not tablet) is extremely small and lightweight. What it will "Go" with will be my new office and desk. A whole new world of style in addition to functionality.
How great is that! - Claire

Go, Claire!
There was a cold rain coming down at 8am, so the Wednesday Walking Women were back inside. Most of us then went to breakfast, afterwhich three of us braved the elements to check out the Haunted Yard a local family who go crazy decorating (and collect donations for the Food Bank as part of the deal).

Tonight I'm going to a Dance-a-Thon. Three teachers are teaming up for 20 minute sessions each with some of their favorite routines. A freewill offering for another local charity will be taken. One of the fun things about living in a smaller town is that there is a real sense of community!

Tai Chi/Qigong at lunch...surprisingly low impact but still highly aerobic. TT

Thanks for that feedback Claire. Good luck with your new computer, what a treat!
Yesterday was a pilates class and my Friday treat is a warm restorative class...given we are having a rainy day, that will be a treat.

My 9:00 class was cancelled so I have been sitting around in my pajamas all morning drinking coffee (actually, I have been very productive. I made appointments to get the ducts cleaned, the carpets cleaned, and scheduled our Moderna Booster shots!). This might be our last 60 degree day, so will definitely be doing some dog walking this afternoon.

I went yesterday to the gym to do my list of exercises. Wow, do I feel the squats today! I like it - reminds me how strong our bodies are. Walking today and maybe some weights later on for upper body. Rainy and yucky here, but the dog still needs a good walk 😀 TGIF everyone

My microwave is on the way out - door not shutting properly after 14 years. Don't want one quite as big but nothing tiny!
Gorgeous fall day today, but the weather is changing! Its currently 73 degrees!!!

Chilly here. PiYo and Pound this morning.

Funny story - I was meeting with a 5th grade student on Thursday and he was telling me about his vacation and that it was for his grandfather's birthday - he goes to say that his grandfather is officially a senior citizen as he turned 65!!!
Gorgeous fall day today - sat outside reading this afternoon. The weather is changing tomorrow and all week to cold, damp and rainy. I'm covering a school on Thursday through January for a maternity leave. I have playground duty before school for 35 minutes and 60 minutes at lunch. I told the AP the other day that when it gets really cold, I'll be wearing my snow pants and heavy coat....she laughed. I walk around the playground but I still get cold!!!

Wow Karen, that is all hands on deck for the school psychologist to have playground duty! Also funny re the 65 and official senior citizen...having just turned 60 and contemplating retirement (met with financial advisor on Friday and she said DO IT!) I am teetering between thinking I am still prime work age and then wanting to retire "young"
Yesterday was chores and shopping, running around town...my only day off from going to the gym. Sunday is a lovely, but vigorous, candlelight vinyasa...so much nicer now that the sun is going down earlier and can enjoy the candles, class at 5pm.
Happy last week before we change the clocks, it always feels so much colder when it is also dark! TT

Back from my travels. Anyway, the 2-day retreat was a huge success and we got done what we set out to do. On my end, the list of things I need to do prior to leaving the nonprofit is now finite. I am calling this a victory. All the prep work paid off.
So did dropping off the projector screen last night. I also picked up my computer which I have nearly set up! So wonderful to have the processing horsepower and speed I need. Lightning fast. No more pouring myself a cup of tea while something loads. No more locking up.
Not that much exercise, though I did insist on taking a couple of walks. My big exercise was keeping it zipped. Especially with copious amounts of wine. Drove up to get a glimpse of Mount Rainier in all its glory.
In addition to the handoff, I have a couple of projects to work on this week. One is finally getting underway; the other is resuming. I needed the processing speed of my new computer to sensibly finish the second. Not to mention the best keyboard I have ever used.
Two more months. I can do this!!! Can't wait to start the next great life adventure. Most of all, I am thankful to have the robust good health and wherewithal to get there.
Thinking about a nice hot bath next...... - Claire

Claire, you should be very proud of yourself. You have worked very hard for both your professional successes and your good health!
Bruno woke up with his face all puffy and eyes almost swollen shut. He must have gotten into something yesterday on a hike he and DH took. This happened once before so we gave him some Benadryl and have laid low today. He's breathing fine, eating etc. and I think looks a little better. We'll see what tomorrow brings. I went to Yoga and danced to Marshall Fitness songs on Utube for about 45 minutes.
Happy Halloween! (I am getting the rest of my exercise running up & down the steps answering the doorbell for Trick-or-treaters.)

Went to Pound, got my Moderna booster, and then raked for two hours (safe to say that I did not have any adverse reactions to the shot!). Bruno is back to normal, so I am glad about that!.

Ruth: Is Bruno better today? That's scary.
Hi Everyone. Last week dh and I went to the NC mountains for 2 nights. We hiked the loop trail on Stone Mountain State Park on a perfect fall day. The next day we drove on the Blue Ridge Parkway. It started raining and we were in and out of clouds. Stopped at the Blue Ridge Music Center in Virginia to listen to bluegrass and go through the museum. We rented a little one room cabin in the woods with a fabulous view. The rain and wind picked up and I got spooked thinking a tree was going to fall on the cabin! Even slept in my clothes! Luckily only one large limb fall on it.
We have been having gorgeous fall weather the last couple of days. I've been walking/running and just soaking up the cool weather. Handed out candy last night to trick-or-treaters.
This is a 600 foot stone granite dome.

Wonderland, what beautiful scenery. I had never heard of Stone Mountain State Park. What an awesome place to hike. Looks like a great time.

Claire - I am excited for you to wrap up your work and move to Idaho. It sounds perfect! I am researching for places to retire, but also waiting to see where my daughter gets a job after graduation. I would love to live in the same time zone as her or within a short plane ride.
Wonderland - I have been wanting to go to Stone Mountain after someone mentioned it a while back. So nice you could pick some nice weather and go.
Ruth - so glad Bruno is okay! Love your pictures!
I have been walking a lot with this nice weather. Also some weight lifting at the gym - not too heavy though. Ever since the long break from the gym during Covid, I have not gotten back to where I was with the amount of weight I can lift. Started back to the gym in May and progress is very slow. I'll take it, though.

I had an IEP meeting today at the school I"m finishing up coverage, this sped teacher is a bit ditzy but cares about the kiddos - after the meeting she came to my office to tell me and the new School Psych it was the best IEP meetings that she has ever had and on my way out at end of day, she thanked me for all my help!! Finished up my coverage at that school today - the young new SP will be good - she is a go getter - even after the "dear in the headlights" look this morning when I was trying to show her stuff. Sweet kid.
We went for a walk after dinner and it started raining - I had my big long down coat on and it is soaked!! We did our normal 25 minute walk. at lunch I walked for 10 minutes but it was only drizzling. I'm sure the neighbors are going "look at the "Ss" - there they go again, crazy people walk in all types of weather!
Going to see our Toronto kids for a long week-end in a few weeks. DH was able to use mileage points to "buy" the tickets - he tried in the morning yesterday but didn't act on it and it the afternoon they were gone. Then by chance he tried again this morning and seats were available. I will take one day comp time from the summer and leave a little early the day we leave. Now we have to book tickets to see DD#2. DH doesn't have enough points for tickets, I do for 1 1/2 tickets (points on cc) so would have to pay cash for the balance which is about 1/2 the price of a ticket, but DH doesn't like the flights. Will wait and see.
Not much else to report. Stay safe, warm and healthy.

It was 19 degrees this morning; but sunny and clear. Only two of us Wednesday Walking Women braved the great outdoors, the others walked inside.

Been away for my lovely step-daughter's wedding, which was FABULOUS! My balance issues were much better (maybe it was lack of vacation and I could have skipped the brain MRI and just taken more vacation???) and I was able to not only participate in the procession IN HEELS but I also (changed into flats) danced a LOT, and the day after walked 8 miles around Baltimore Then on for a couple nights at the Jersey shore, and managed 5 miles on the sand and another 3 miles, but then the next day had quite the blister on my heel and did not get my morning beach walk in before we had to pack up and come home -- to snow Today I did my group Zoom erg session for just under 5,000 meters, and in the morning I have my weight training at 5:30. Yes, I am voluntarily waking up at 5 on a vacation day! Have some errands to run after PT tomorrow, then a massive house cleaning is needed and I guess it is time to change out my wardrobe.
I hope everyone is well! Love the dog photos

Today I plugged in the Wii and did Just Dance for 30 minutes - I forgot how fun it is! My teenagers rolled their eyes at me. Maybe they'll join me one of these days like they used to....also hit the gym this afternoon and lifted weights and used a climbing machine for 20 minutes. Leaving tomorrow for a weekend trip to Las Vegas. I'm sure my steps will be close to 20K a day! Hope everyone is well.
