Wow, y'all are so inspiring! And Ruthbru, I am so. glad. Bruno is okay. I haven't been on here in a week, and that was the first thing I checked on. Thank goodness. I hope he decides he's had enough adventure and will stick close by from now on!

I had a birthday recently, and an annual MD visit the next day, at which I was read the riot act about eating right and exercising as I now have high cholesterol and qualify as pre-diabetic, and have fatty liver. *sigh*. And then I had my 6 mo. checkup with my MO, who also reminded me that the single best way to try to lower my chances of recurrence is weight loss. And I haven't lost any since the last time he saw me.

    So.

In addition to the twice-weekly Livestrong classes, I am buckling down. I'm upping workouts and making healthier food choices (I had slid away from whole grains and was not eating enough veggies). My current goal is to add in a third aerobic workout each week, plus yoga classes at a minimum on the days I'm not doing aerobics, and upping my PT exercises to 5-7x a week instead of 1-3, which has not been enough. Yesterday, I took my first dance class in...a long time. It was a beginner Horton class, and I was dripping sweat after 25 min. I didn't actually finish the class, but I got my aerobic workout in, so...good enough!

I start a new job tomorrow after quite a while out of the workforce. I'll be quietly paper-pushing for a large corporation, not using too much energy, so I'll have plenty to spare for workouts, right? Today I will be trying to pre-load housework and do food prep for the week so that I can stick to my workout and food plans. Please think good thoughts for me with this transition!

Wonderland - such happy news, Congratulations! So glad you found a venue for the wedding and your daughter is happy with it. I hope the rest of the planning will be smooth and a lot of fun with your daughter.

Ruth - great pic of Bruno with Ivy. All that shoveling is a built-in work out. A long time ago, I lived in an area with lots of snow exercise. I sort of miss it.

SaltMarsh - Congratualtions on the new job. So smart to pre-plan lunches and get your chores done. Hopefully, it will provide some structure to your day and actually aid your fitness and diet goals.

I increased my walking goals/step count. So I have been trying to fit in walks over various times each day. I go to the gym to lift weights 2x per week, but I also need some good core exercises. I do planks when I think of it, but I really need to do them every day.

What works for me exercise-wise is to have a set of crunches I do on the exercise ball which also includes knee lifts on my back. That is the only thing that sculpts inner thighs. I do these each morning prior to getting dressed/showering. I have a routine of free weights that I do each evening. I am to do both each weekday, which means that it's OK if sometimes it doesn't work out.

I tried 2x per week and found that I was looking for excuses not to exercise on a particular day. This meant that it didn't happen. The weekdays rhythm works perfectly for me.

Then I do a minimum of a 3 mile walk each day. Yesterday, I did a 10k run. I substitute hiking, cycling or skiing for the walking.

I need to reverse the weight trend, but that will happen once I get past the marathon running up to the exit from the nonprofit. I want to rethink eating as part of the transition into my semi-retired life. I may layer in some exercise classes as well. We shall see. I do know that I will need to train up for my cycling tour of Scotland which is finally a GO for 2022.

Bruno reminds me of myself as a little girl when I went looking for the "deer's house" up the side of a mountain in Vermont, scaring the adults to death. I think I was about 4. I finally returned, and everyone said "you were lost." To which I answered "no I wasn't." Only disappointed that I didn't find it.

Some things don't change. - Claire

Saltmarsh, good luck with your new job, and weight loss plan. I need to start logging my food if I ever going to shed the Covid 5 (actually 8). Sigh!

GoKale, if you really miss shoveling snow; come visit me anytime between now & April! Happy

Claire, since I really like classes, one of the perks of retirement to me is that I have the time and flexibility to take more of them.

I went to a funeral this morning, shoveled some more, supervised a doggie play-date, and went to Pound. Here's another Happy Dogs picture!

Claire: Here I am wondering what mountain!

Saltmarsh: My watch reminds me to get up every hour. I try to make myself do squats or march in place or walk around the table in my office for a minute. It all counts!

Yesterday I did Livestrong, and went a bit early to get more time in aerobic mode. Tonight I'm going to do yoga. I survived my first day on the job, but ohmygoodness, my back is killing me! I don't know if it's the chair I was sitting in, or the fact that I was wearing slight heels, but I need to tend to my body and stretch things out tonight.

Shift& LIft this morning, Barre Sculpt tonight. It was nice today so DH put up the Christmas lights while I grabbed the grandpuppies and took the whole pack to the Dog Park.

Wonder - how exciting for you and your daughter's engagement. Nice that you found a venue that works and that your daughter likes.

Saltmarsh - good luck with the new position

I have a Cubii (under the desk elliptical) that I do for an hour every morning. It gives me a good workout but probably not enough cardiac even though I'm dripping when I'm done. Then I try to get at least 2 and prefer 3 walks (at least 25 minutes each). I keep saying I need to add weights or exercises for the core. Ruth - I too need to lose the Covid 5!! I've been shoving junk in my mouth this school year. The school I'm covering on M,T has a teacher lounge with way too much candy etc. Last week, I thought it was left over Halloween candy, but there was even more this week. Someone said there is always "treats". It's hard to avoid the lounge as that is where the restroom is - I guess I need to see where another adult restroom is - that will keep me out of the loung.

70 today and 40 tomorrow - still no snow yet in Denver but the mountains have gotten snow. I think Denver is near a record for latest snow. 'm working remotely tomorrow - paper work and meetings and then leaving 1.5 hours early - and taking Thursday off - we are leaving tomorrow late afternoon to visit DD#1 and SIL till Monday morning. I'm mostly packed - I forgot how much bulkier winter clothes are. My carry-on is full and I need to put one more thing in it plus toiletries. I have a bulky cotton sweater top that might need to come out. The weather by my kids is cold, damp and rainy with temps in the high 40s and low 50s.

    Sweet dreams.

Safe travels Karen. From pictures it looks like you could probably use some of your DD's clothes in a pinch even if not your preferred choice. I would definitely make sure you get everything in your carry on!

My school is off the full week for Thanksgiving...which has had the effect of folks checking out this week -- mentally at least and some physically as we approach Thursday and Friday.

Today is back to the low 70's (we will have 2 days of this), but once the sun goes down the temps drop quick. Have been to four gym classes Sun - Tuesday this week, got a bonus class in last night. Off to Tai Chi at lunch.

    Happy Wednesday all. TT

Here's the Wednesday Women. The wind is blowing from the north at 31 mph today (and gusting to 50) so even the most hardy walkers came inside. I will go to Zumba tonight.

saltmarsh: Congratulations on your new job! Love your determination to make exercise and food changes. WTG!

GoKale: I also need to do core exercises.

Ruth: Bruno and his gf are so joyful to look at.

    Karen: Have a fabulous trip!

TT: How wonderful that your get the week off for Thanksgiving.

M0mmy: I'm impressed that you are already wrapping Christmas presents!

Dh and I went to another State Park today. Like TT and Karen (and unlike Ruth), we had a high of 70 degrees. We hiked 5 miles in the woods today under a clear sky with an autumn scented breeze. On dark gloomy days I will shut my eyes and go back to this day in my mind.

I got everything in my carry-on. I like to layer so I have plenty of warm outer wear. DD is 4 or 5 inches shorter than me and a size bigger than me. My clothes are pretty much year round except for a few long sleeve tops - most others are 3/4 sleeve. Cold weather I give up my sandals for shoes/clogs and short boots, footless tights and socks. I brought a fleece, thin down vest and jacket and rain jacket. Last night it was freezing and I wore all 4 to walk for 25 minutes with hubby. This morning I pulled my back out somehow - now sure - my daughter has a Cubii too and I was doing that - alternating between "tylenol" and ibuprofen. I just took 2 what I thought were ibuprofen then realized they were "tylenol" so actually way too much of that. Oh well. I'll wait a couple hours and take some ibuprofen. It is wearing me out. Also been having stomach problems - heartburn or something like that so pepcid ac. I feel like a broken down old lady today.

Enjoying time with my DD and SIL.

Just booked flight for next month. Long layover in Toronto each direction so will spend the night with the kids here. Only drawback is we will need Covid testing here. Not a big deal really. The fares on Air Canada were so much less than on United. Also booked a place to stay.

    Well, kids just got home.

    Have a good week-end.

Enjoy your time with your family, Karen. Hope your back settles down.

I went to Shift & Lift this morning, did as much of the pre-Thanksgiving shopping as I could, and went for a fun dog hike. All my raking and picking up branches has tweaked my back as well so I am skipping toning for tomorrow.

Karen: Have a great visit. Sorry about your back. Hope it calms down.

Ruth: Sorry about your back, also. Picking up sticks always gets my back.

Started doing the yard raking. Only did an hour today with lots more to do. Yesterday the wind blow the leaves all around the yard creating a mess. It will eventually get done.

Love the photos of Bruno and his girlfriend having fun!

Today did 3 or 4 loads of laundry (which are freezing on the line and drying racks now) rowed for 5k, and have been doing some mad housecleaning. Have not done the sewing I need to get done, but at least have it a bit more organized.

Santa Fe has a wonderful farmer's market but it can be a bit of a zoo as it is a tourist attraction in addition to being a great market...but I needed fresh sage for Thanksgiving and the supermarkets I went to were all out (!!!) so I left the house at 6:30 am to get to the Saturday farmer's market, thinking they open at 7....no, they open at 8 but that was ok: I found great parking and spent the extra time walking through checking out stalls as they were being set up, and then walked around the neighborhood. Once back at the market, I got the sage (yay!) and other fresh herbs, along with delicata and butternut squash for my roasted squash soup (which I traditionally serve for lunch on Thanksgiving Day), beets, beautiful lettuce, arugula, green onions, radishes, japanese turnips (something new to try, the farmer told me they are great roasted), apples, carrots, onions, some lovely bison short ribs for when we are tired of turkey, eggs...and an apple tart and coffee for breakfast (that was what the exercise was for, right? :-)). I definitely got in my walking exercise and a bit of weight lifting too carrying that stuff around while I shopped!

We will have a quiet Thanksgiving this year: just me, hubby and my sister...but on the Monday after hubby and i will fly to LA as my dear Granddaughter is in a play and I can't miss that! Will spend the week in LA, enjoying my daughter and grand kids and the warm weather. Hope to get in some swimming, DD does have a pool.

I also did a bunch of laundry today and some housework to get a head start on the holiday prep.

Ruth: I like the picture with Bruno's ears flying.

YesIam: I've been doing some mad housecleaning also. Ds is bringing home his new gf who I haven't met yet for Thanksgiving. We aren't celebrating until Friday so I have an extra day to get ready.

Octo: I'm getting hungry just reading your post! What a fabulous haul from your farmer's market. Have fun in LA!

Raked leaves for 2 hours today. Hope to finish tomorrow.

My body is on eastern time as I was up at 5:30 - need to get a long walk in this morning as its supposed to rain this afternoon. enjoying the kids, but unfortunately, our son-in-law was admitted to the hospital early Saturday morning. It took almost 18 hours to get a bed after being admitted to the ER. He has a GI bleed, but they don't know the cause. DD went to the hospital last night. Not sure if we'll be able to visit him due to Covid restrictions. DD is going today. So really no information yet. He got 4 units of blood yesterday! Boy got van't get a break - well neither can my daughter. She is so awesome about staying on top of things. We are supposed to leave tomorrow late morning but I offered my daughter to stay longer, but since there is no information, had to decide.

Going for Covid testing later this morning for our return flight tomorrow. Even if I stay a couple extra days, the test will still be good.

    Not much else to report.

    Have a great Sunday

That is so scary, Karen. They have had a horrible year with SIL's health issues. I hope they can get things under control. Hugs.

Cold and windy here. I will go to yoga later. We are having the carpets professionally cleaned tomorrow, so I need to get as much furniture as possible shoveled into the closets, basement etc. so they can do a thorough job.

I'm a few days back in reading, I feel I have come full circle of happiness that Karen is in Canada enjoying her daughter to the downswing of your SIL back in the hospital...he can't catch a break! Take care and yourself and prayers for your family.

I got my Covid booster Friday and am having a repeat of my second shot side effects...a 36 hr of fever. In April it was the first fever I had had in 20 years...the recent experience doesn't make it any better. I have been living on 2 tylenol every 6 hours since Friday evening...

Glad you got your supplies Octo at your farmer's mkt. Yesterday DH and I went to Trader Joe's to buy general groceries...and could get a spot in the parking lot! We usually do our TJ shopping on Saturday, but we looked at each other and said...do we really need it today?!? Left and will try again today/tomorrow.

Happy Sunday, safe travels to all, TT

Karen: I am so sorry to hear about your sil! Hoping the cause of is GI bleed is found quickly and can be repaired.

TT: Hope the side effects from your booster shot are a distant memory now.

Hi All. Still working on the yard and we're almost there. I raked and hauled leaves to the front for 2 hours. Then pushed mowed for 80 minutes. I haven't mowed our yard since July when we hired someone to do it because of the heat and humidity. Today was in the upper 50s and it was invigorating! Will finish mowing the yard on Tuesday bc it's going to rain tomorrow.

Thanks everyone. It's just been one thing after another. DD went to hospital this afternoon and is on her way home now (almost 6pm east coast time). His father will stay this evening until he goes to sleep for the night. They still don't know the cause of the GI bleed - hopefully tomorrow there will be some answers. DH and I went for a long walk this morning - and again this afternoon. As soon as we started walking it began to drizzle. There is a great park near my kids house that we walked around - then walked to the grocery store to pick up something. 3.5 miles and didn't get too wet other than our rain jackets. DH says its really coming down now. Doubt we will get a walk after dinner. My back is starting to feel better - I think it was sciatica.

DD said they tested for C-diff and it came back negative. He's in a room with 2 other roommates - both women - just a curtain between them. I don't get this - how can they have opposite genders in the same room? Same as last time in the hospital - same hospital.

    Off to eat dinner.

Karen, I hope your SIL gets some answers for his GI misery ASAP and is home real soon. It was good timing you and your husband were there to support your daughter. It always helps to have mom to lean on. Safe travels for tomorrow. I hope you get through the airports without a hitch.
