Oh no, what did Bruno do?
0 -
I think he is mad at us for leaving him for a week (he stayed with DS and was very well taken care of). He chased a bicycle rider up and down the trail barking like a maniac and absolutely paid no attention to our commands. After poor fellow (who has dogs so knows they can be jerks) finally escaped, we captured Bruno and made him a leashed walk on the road by the trails l.....which was not nearly as much fun for anyone. We have only encountered someone on this trail once before, which is why we were letting him run off leash.....and he has always before come back when called.

There's a cold rain coming down today so WWW took our walk inside this morning. Zumba tonight.

Sounds like Bruno is in the dog house

Here's Bruno with the little dog we've been babysitting. He's been adopted and his new mom is picking him up tomorrow. 💖

Love all the pics!
Doing Zumba in the afternoon and salsa tonight (online and live with masks, respectively). Walking the dog in a few minutes. Yes, I need to lose some extra pounds from the weekend binge apres hike.

Wonderland - beautiful art on those pumpkins! I hope you are having a great time in Hilton Head!
Ruth - gorgeous photos of your trip!
Claire - good luck with the move; I hope everything comes together nicely.
Been so busy lately! Rolling Stones concert, Boston Marathon to watch my husband run (does that count? lol), and now heading soon to Syracuse for a football game with friends - so hardly any exercise except for all the walking in Boston - which I loved!. I will be back to the gym and lifting weights next week!

Hi Folks!
Love pup picks and travel photos
GoKale -- how did your husband's marathon go?
I have been bust and working out a lot too. Last week of on-water rowing but we have restarted the erg Zoom classes as well. I can't not row, even though I have a broken rib (picked up on bone scan, but I had been telling my PT I Thought I had costochondritis right there for a while) and tendonitis in my elbow, but time on the water is so precious! And our weather has been crazy warm this week -- highs into the 70s, and we haven't even had a freeze yet! have been keeping up my strength training with the personal trainer, and we have been for some bike rides too. Managing at least an hour of exercise every day! Tomorrow likely to be a lighter day as I have a lot of driving to do for work and need to be at work super early, then have eye appointment at the end of the day to get the permanent lacrimal duct plugs for the dry eyes from chemo. Row on water last time on Saturday, early, in the fog, then the club boats are getting put up for the winter Hike with friends on Sunday, hopefully south somewhere where fall colors are still good.
Hope everyone has a great end of the week!

Good to hear from you, Yeslama! Sounds like you have been busy.
GoKale, how were the Stones & how was the Boston Marathon? Boston is a great city to walk around in!
I skipped my morning class to spend more time with the little puppy we were babysitting (who as of this afternoon has a new loving home). I went to a fun Dance2fit class tonight.

Heidi: I don't know if I could salsa with a mask on. I see people walking outside with masks and wonder how they can do it.
GoKale: I heard that Jagger exercises 3 hours a day, 6 days a week. Good for him! That's impressive that your dh ran the Boston Marathon!
Ruth: Bruno is so cute!
Dragon: sorry about your broken rib. Hope it heals quickly.
Hi All! Loving Hilton Head. We took a 2 hour kayak tour yesterday which was great fun. Been walking, biking, swimming in the ocean. Even saw an alligator in a pond. I will definitely miss all the beautiful scenery when we leave on Saturday.

Wonderland, wow! Hilton Head looks like a great place for kayaking!
Ruth, I love your I LOVE NY t-shirt!
GoKale, watching marathons counts if it got your heart rate up (in my book)
Dragon, sorry to hear about the broken rib. Hope it heals quickly.
Will run on the treadmill at the gym later and work on some weights. This morning I did some twisty chair yoga before having coffee. It felt good so I may add this to my routine. I have to limber up before my mammo and scans next week because I tend to do a number on my neck with the contortions they always make me do.

I am sitting here with a nice big cup of coffee. Bruno must be worn out from all the excitement of the last couple weeks because he (and DH) and still completely zonked out. I am soon heading for Lift & Shift. It is cloudy, windy & chilly today, so we'll wait until later for a Dog Hike.

Went to Pound class and raked leaves....which is going to take a lot longer with our new helper!

Hi all: I've been a bit MIA too: first I was on vacation (and did a lot of walking), then came back and work exploded! and then the Giants run for the (baseball) National League Divisional Series kept me busy though they lost by one run in the fifth, elimination game :-( Sigh. This past week I haven't done enough exercising, so will be looking to this group for inspiration!
I hope all are doing well.
Ruth, we almost did a similar cruise this year, but I wasn't ready yet. Soon though....

After much delay and angst due to my son's sort-of-stepsibling-at-his-dad's-house coming down with a breakthrough case of Covid, my kid is finally starting a new school this week, and my first actual Livestrong workout is tomorrow evening 5 o'clock EST. I've gotten back into doing my PT exercises after too long off, and I have started dreaming about teaching dance every night, which means it's time for me to start finding my way back into dancing and teaching.
Bruno with the rake gave me a good laugh!

Yesterday was a surprise glorious Indian Summer day so I headed for the farmland which was overrun with pumpkin patches and a lot more traffic than usual. It was the most fun ever cycling. I think I will do along Lake Sammamish today as it could be the last autumn ride I will most likely be doing there. I am sure that I willl enjoy Lake Coeur d'Alene more, but inot an experience I want to miss.
I am one busy lady these days:
- I am winding down my work at the nonprofit. We had a very successful online event Friday and guess who did the backend logistics. My next step is to figure out SharePoint as I have files that I need to archive so that the next person doesn't need to search my hard drive. The videos for setting this up are an insomnia cure. But I am making headway.
- I have an ongoing project that I need to refocus on. This is with my long term client and I do want to do at least some work going forward. These are projects with a beginning and an end. I work for a few days or a couple of weeks and then get paid. Then I get time off to play.
- An interesting research project that is just starting. This is a major firm and I am now in their system as a supplier/consultant. I am so stoked.
- Planning the move. Again, I am very excited. The question is whether the place I have picked out will have vacancies, and if not, what is a suitable backup.
Last night, I went into Seattle to do a wine buy and taste my way through their reds (free if you are a wine club member and buy a case of wine). Just so fun. I needed to get a case for my friend who is also a foodie as well as one for myself (I am being reimbursed). It was fun to teach him how wonderful this particular red is with lamb. I am doing a wine happy hour at the winery where and his friends will be playing next Wednesday evening. I have never heard him play so should be fun. His son shares his musical talents and they have done at least one gig together.
Thursday is a very overdue haircut, and Friday is my oncology appointment, and I hope blood draw, and shots (flu and third Covid). Then I can spend the weekend recovering and moping. I need to set that up. I have to take two buses to get to the haircut, but I don't want to look for another stylist until I move. Just not worth it. (It's almost impossible to get to West Seattle these days without taking the bus with the bridge under repair.)
I am getting very excited about my move. Some of the most spectacular scenery on the face of the planet. Wonderful cycling, skiing and water sports. A smallish place with lots to do. Now just to get myself organized..... - Claire

You are very busy, Claire, and all good stuff to be busy with!
I went to yoga today for the first time in forever. Very lovely, especially because class was outside. DH, Bruno, and I also took a long hike. It was 71 degrees, which is about 20 degrees above normal, so we are enjoying it while it lasts!

Ruth, that is such a cute picture of Bruno with the rake. I should teach Sammy to use the vacuum.
Claire, looking forward to the pics of your new environs already. Good luck on the onc appointment!
saltmarsh, what type of dance do you teach?
Still doing chair yoga and lots of dog-walking, -pulling and -running.

Ruth - Bruno with the rake - so adorable! What a funny dog.
The Rolling Stones concert was amazing!!! The band played over 2 hours. The music was fantastic and the visual effects were great. Wonderland, I had to google Mick Jagger's diet and exercise. You're right about his 3 hour daily routine. He also eats super healthy and has given up drugs and much of the alcohol - and he's got the abs to prove it!
My DH had a super experience running in the Boston Marathon. His time wasn't quite as good as he wanted it to be because somewhere on the race, he tweaked his hamstring. But he said all the crowds and the cheering was so fun and encouraging. I had fun with my SIL, nephews hopping on the commuter train to see him at mile 10. The whole weekend was really great. A couple days after returning, we left again to go to Syracuse to see friends and go to a football game. Our flight yesterday changed to an evening flight so I didn't get home until 1am this morning. So I am tired and will hit the gym tomorrow.

Sounds like a great weekend, GoKale!
I went to Pound this morning, did a bunch of errands, cleaned part of the house, took a short dog walk, and sat outside visiting with my neighbor while our dogs played. This is supposed to be the last 70 day of the year so I wanted to enjoy it!

Barre Sculpt Tuesday, walked inside with the ladies and outside with the dog. Zumba tonight.

I don't think I've been on here this month or even late September. Claire, you move sounds wonderful. Ruth back east is glorious in the fall. I grew up threw elementary school going to Lake Champlain, Plattsburg, Stowe VT, and other parts of up state NY. Claire, mentioning all those places brought a smile to my face and happy memories. Wonder, you are so talented. I will update more. Tired. Time to crawl into bed and try to finish my book.

Stopping by for a quick Hello. I've been walking/running every day this week except for one day. Met a friend on Wednesday for a walk and talk. Tomorrow I'm having a small Halloween dinner party: Spooky 7 Layer Dip and Chips, Skull Deviled Eggs, Skeleton Vegetables, Blood Sangria, Mummy Hot Dogs, Pumpkin Quesadillas, Monster Burgers, Shrunken Head Potatoes, Pumpkin Surprise Cake (the surprise and chocolate ganache). I've never done this before but looking forward to it!

Happy Friday. Gorgeous fall weather in Denver - loving seeing the changing leave colors beyond the Aspens.
Work seems to be getting harder and harder to get the job done. I don't ever seem to be caught up on my paperwork. I know what I'll be spending part of Sunday on. I have to finish entering my student learning objectives which count as 50% of my evaluation. Other paperwork has to be done as well. Trying to protect my time by not working in the evenings is not helping. May have to start an hour/night. I've also not been doing any work on Fridays.
This morning I had to get my car emission tested. An hour wait!!!! While DD#2 was here, she got into a car accident - thankfully she was hurt and neither the person she hit. My car was a 15 year old Infiniti FX35 which I loved and had no intention of replacing. Was going to drive it into the ground. Well, it doesn't take much damage to total a 15 year old car. The damage to repair was going to be at least 10K, possible more. So we were car hunting. We had a few cars in mind and looking at 2012-2015. I bought a Mazda CR5 2015. I love it. I was talking to DD#2 this morning and telling her I haven't had a car this new in 20 years (we bought the Infiniti 8 years old) and she says, she thought I deserved a newer car . I told her not that she'll ever drive it. I will rent cars for her. She told me that she is a good driver. I said I know, but even if someone else hit the car, it will still be more expensive replacing than a rental. It's a new to me car!!
Wonder, it was great having everyone here, even though DD#1 trip was short . The girls really enjoyed time together. Now we are trying to figure out when we are going to Toronto and to Israel. DD left 2 1/2 weeks ago and it seems like forever!! I have one "boomerang" child, but to be honest, I'm happy to have him here. His bedroom is in the basement. The days he works and I work we barely see each other if at all. I leave before he gets up and he gets home many nights after I've gong to sleep. He eats dinner with us on his days off and enjoys leftovers to bring to work.
Wonder, your pumpkins are gorgeous. You are so talented.
Just finished another book. I think I've read 10 books since mid-July, more than I have read in a long time. I've been buying books, but have to decide what to do with them. DD#2 has the same reading taste as I do, but doesn't have much time to read with school and homework. I may ask her which ones she might want, then figure out a book swap.
That's about it for now. Have a great week-end.

Heidihill, what I'm best trained in and most nerdy about is ballet, but I also have been trained in and known to teach modern and jazz.
Wonderland, I do hope you'll take pics of your Halloween party foodstuffs before they get devoured, and share them with us so we can live vicariously!
Karen1956 -- I've been reading a lot more lately, too, and loving it! Was it a conscious decision for you, or you just fell into it because you've had time?
So, I've started the Livestrong program, and while it's no bootcamp class, it has kicked my derriere enough that I'm sore the days after we have it. In my class, all the women have had breast cancer, and then there's one guy who had esophageal cancer. I'm glad I'm doing it. I've also gotten back on my yoga mat for a couple of at-home classes, and that has been good for me as well. I always do better when I've got a mind-body practice going.
There is some small chance that my workout this weekend will be painting my kitchen cabinets...we'll see!

Karen, you sound like me at the end of my career. I just could not keep up with the paperwork. Every night, every weekend, every holiday. It was that, not the kids, that pushed me over the line into my decision to retire (which I have never regretted). I have been in a Book Club since 1999. 8-10 members, all teachers (mostly now retired). It has been so much fun because we rotate hosting (with the hostess picking the next book & making the all important dessert). It has gotten me reading a much wider variety of books than I would have read on my own (which is mostly history & biography).
Saltmarsh, I am glad you are getting a good workout from your Livestrong program. Ballet, modern & jazz?! That is very impressive to me. My favorite type of exercise is anything music driven!
I am here quickly this morning; I'm off to an early morning PiYo class and then head out of town for a wedding. I am nervous about going because the Covid rates are so high here (I have known multiple vaccinated people with breakthrough infections), but the mother of the groom is one of my oldest friends, so it's a 'must attend' occasion. I will be glad when they roll out the Moderna booster shots!

Hello ladies,
I am new to this forum. Probably like many of you, I thought I was low risk for cancer...I never smoked, rarely drink, walk daily, watched my weight. I do have an auto immune disease (Crohn's). No family history of BC. So, like many of you, BC came as a total surprise. I did keep walking or biking during chemo, after single mastectomy and radiation and I think that helped keep side effects to a minimum. After treatment finished July 30, 2021, I bought myself a Fitbit 5 to record my steps, exercise and sleep. My cancer center has a program (free) to join our local wellness center for 8 weeks to build up strength and stamina. I just joined this past Monday and am committed to going 2-3x a week. I follow The Recovery Room on Facebook, run by Dr Leslie Waltke, a cancer physical therapist. And she says to exercise like our lives depend on it, because it does. Looking forward to joining you all and getting some inspiration

Welcome, Juju!!!

Welcome Juju! I find your comments about exercise interesting. I went through all this long before all the research had been done, and like you, I exercised through chemo and radiation as well as afterwards. It made a huge difference physically, since I just needed to recover at the end, not start over. I don't think the total recovery time was any shorter, but I had a lot less to recovery to do. I also think that exercise could be what saved my life, along with all the standard treatment, of course.
I just missed a bus into Seattle which meant a mile-long dash up a major hill to my oncology appointment. I just made it. Still fine and she congratulated me for figuring out a great life post diagnosis. She has told me before that I am the only one of her patients who is really fit. She has also said that exercisers are a distinct minority as most people would rather just take a pill.
From there, I walked to the streetcar which I took to Pioneer Square and another wine bar where my friend Chris works. The streetcar trip was "picturesque" but it did give me a view of areas of Seattle that I don't normally see. I had a great time, but have to say it was dodgy walking to the bus stop to take the bus back to Redmond. Fortunately, the bus came quickly. With fentanyl now in the mix of drugs favored by the homeless, the area has become exponentially more dangerous, which was confirmed by my friend.
The food there is amazing with small bites prepared by Turkish chef Anton or "Ton." I could happily eat my way through that menu. I ordered the "Bartender's Roulette" flight which let Chris give me his current faves. I hit the jackpot as this was the evening after the wine dinner, so three of the four wines were leftover from that. Library vintages just not otherwise available. I got a bonus "mystery wine" which had the label missing. Just divine....we think it could be a 2018 Syrah.
I realize that I need to get ready for Covid jab #3. Then fit in an errand and at least one walk today. Plus work. I have ten more weeks until I leave the nonprofit. I can feel that things are winding down, but at the same time revving up as I plan for the move to Idaho.
I couldn't be more excited. - Claire
