Heidi and Two-Hobbies- interesting idea about the lack of estrogen. I know my eyes are definitely drier. I did not do chemo so mine would not be caused by that. I have been on aromatase inhibitors for about 2.5 years. I will definitely ask my dr about it. I have a friend who has cataracts now and thinks it is from taking arimidex.

This probably has been asked before, but what do you plan on doing for outdoor exercise when the winter season comes and the weather is bad (rain, snow, etc)?
We'd like to avoid going to a gym, so any thoughts about specific exercises in the comfort of your own home?

Ran a 10k yesterday.

Johnsmith, I still go for walks outside even in the winter. Proper clothing is needed. I walk at my local indoor mall. Unfortunately I have little room for a treadmill or elliptical at home. You can always get some DVDs: Zumba, yoga, etc, and I do have some light weights I use at home. I find it a challenge to keep up the amount of exercise I should do in
the winter without a gym, so I'm thinking of joining one this winter.0 -
I developed a retinal hole and some latticing while on Femara. However, at my last exam several months after finishing Femara, my ophthalmologist said the areas were healing themselves and at this point laser repairs are unnecessary. I also developed dry eye which has returned to normal after a year off Femara. We forget sometimes how powerful these drugs really are.
John- depending on your tolerance for cold weather, I much prefer working out in the great outdoors in winter - I'm much happier on a crisp 30 degree day with winter blue skies sparkling on a snowy trail than on a 75 degree humid day! However, icy sidewalks and bitter cold conditions can sometimes make outdoor workouts problematical. We've made our downstairs into a workout room - over the years we've gotten an elliptical, weights, a balance ball, yoga mats, a hoop, exercise bands, and a large screen TV where we can watch TV or workout videos. Even in summer we use it almost every day for things like yoga, weights, and other cross training. Ruth is the real expert here on indoor winter workouts - she lives in North Dakota and is the queen of DVD home workout videos.
Three mile run yesterday with the running clinic coach. Three hours later I was in the emergency room with DH after he developed sudden onset severe abdominal pain with vomiting and lightheadedness. One minute he was perfectly fine and 5 minutes later he was crumpled on the floor in agony. Just a tad scary as you can imagine. Any guesses anyone? Kidney stone. After giving him morphine and other drugs, the ER sent him home with painkillers and anti-nausea drugs. Now we're in that strange holding pattern waiting for the stupid thing to pass. He got to ride in an ambulance with sirens and lights and the whole deal - the little kid in me is kind of envious - I had to follow in the car. Too bad he was in such excruciating pain that he doesn't really remember it.

So sorry for your DH pain Mary. John I prefer the gym to anything at home, it's really hard to get me motivated at home. Example: I got on the elliptical at home last night: lasted whole of 5 minutes. Ugh. I guess it's still better than nothing.

46 minute walk today. Well I'll take off a couple of minutes I spent taking butterfly pictures. Got to stop and smell the roses.

Yikes, Mary, hope DH is on the mend! Ladies who have given birth & had kidney stones both report that kidney stones are a much worse experience, so.....
.Beautiful pictures, Twohobbies!
John, we have a really good treadmill at home (with the inclines, fan, TV etc), plus I do have a ton of workout DVDs. It depends on your level as to which ones you'd want. Richard Simmons has some nice, fun DVDs if you are just starting out (so do the Dancing With the Stars people). The FIRM has a bunch of great DVDs, but they are definitely for the more advanced. Jillian Michels has good hard DVDs, but she is too crabby for me. I really love anything I've tried put out by Denise Austin, and you can make her toning ones easier or harder by using different size weights. I know there are good DVDs for whatever type of exercise you're into. One thing you could do is go on Amazon.com and look in their fitness section & you will see a wide variety.
Speaking of which, I did 45 minutes Body Makeover Mix with Denise Austin this morning. I may walk this afternoon as it is finally clearing up.
Hope all the California girls are okay with all the shaking goin' on out there!!!

Mary: Sorry your dh has a kidney stone! I found out the same way he did that I have them except I didn't get a cool ride in the ambulance.

I thought it was my appendix. Never suspected stones. Loved the morphine.
My attack was 3 years ago and current Xrays show that I have one more. I can always tell when it gets a little active but so far it's staying in the kidney.Hoping he passes it soon!

Dear Mary, kidney stones are the worst!! Hope your dear hubby passes it soon!!!
I am having a lazy Sunday!!!

Been off the boards for a few days. Cheryl, sorry about your cat. Mary, hope DH passes the stone soon. I understand they are one of the worse pains you can have. Welcome auroaya! John, I like Leslie Sansone's walking DVD's. She has 1 mile, 2 mi, 3 mile, 5 mile and walking/toning DVD's. You can find them on Amazon and I've seen them at Walmart.
I've been walking every day. Even added some 1 min sprints yesterday. Really going to have to rev it up because my middle has become ridiculous. Speak up voices - real loud. Thanks.
Night my sculpted friends.

Walked a slow half hour, felt great at first but got a little dizzy toward the end and had some pulling in my sternal area. Felt good to get out though.
I keep forgetting to mention this is because I just had my exchange Wednesday.

Pictures from yesterday. We had the most fabulous time, and I was able to keep up! My friend is extremely fit, so I am beyond proud of myself. I was also able to keep up in other ways later on. Another, not frequently-enough mentioned, benefit of staying fit and limber.
Unloading bicycles and setting out at the ferry terminal.
View pulling out of Anacortes, headed for Lopez Island.
View of a fresh pond on the island. We stopped for lunch at the farmers market and started with real cake with local berries.
Our destination....Outer Beach, which we finally got to after a "detour".
We had plenty of time for the ferry as got back an hour early. There was a bagpipe playing and we stopped in for beers.
To top off the most amazing day ever, a pod of Orca Whales were chasing us. The ferry captain slowed the boat so we could get a good look. We weren't disappointed.
Ended with a great dinner after a 1.5 hour drive back. My friend just loved driving my "sweet ride". So the most fabulous day ever!0 -
Fantastic, Claire.....does it make me old or just really married when I confess the picture that excited me most was the cake

Ruth I was thinking the same thing! Yumm...

Mary, sorry to hear that DH is suffering with a kidney stone. I have heard that they are terribly painful. Hope it passes quickly.
Thinking of all our CA sisters after the quake especially Cheryl. Hope everyone is doing ok.
Today's exercise was scrubbing floors, washing rugs, cleaning bathrooms and doing laundry.

Mary- sorry about your DH.
Claire-sounds fun. Ruth, you crack me up!
Moved DD into college which was enough of a workout for today. Getting up early tomorrow to see if I can fit a run in before my first day back at school...

Ginger: Good luck at school tomorrow!
Claire: Beautiful pictures and glad your date turned out to be an exciting one!
Odie: Please come to my house to exercise!
Good Evening Everyone. Today was cooler which made my walk/jog almost bearable.

Helloooo, Sculpted Sisters! I haven't checked in for at least a couple weeks. Also falling off on the daily exercise
Not much of an excuse-- the DH and I took a train trip, other than that I've been staying indoors to avoid the heat. In good news, my frozen shoulder is finally regaining some ROM. I can now raise my arm 90 degrees, which doesn't sound great until you compare it to being stuck at 70 degrees for months!Still hooping but haven't been doing my walking or weights. My upper arms are mush. I need the Voices :-)

Mary Hope DH is feeling better. Odie in SoCal we didn't feel a thing, the earthquake was up near where Dazedandconfused lives but she's fine. I'm with Ruth, that cake looks delish Claire. TH love the butterfly pics. Ann welcome back, the rest has done you good if you've improved your ROM.
I am still house/dog sitting I'm at a different place now, same neighborhood though so for the last couple of days it's been walking, walking and more walking but my friend came into town from Tennessee on her way to the South Pacific yesterday so we celebrated her 70th birthday and then today it was a bridal shower so I know that the food column is much much more than the exercise column.

Half hour run this morning.

Mary, oh dear, sorry to read of your husband's pain and hope you are hanging in there with him going through..., oh, and good on sticking to training. Claire, I like his shorts. Dulcigirl -well done and good too see you posting you too Ann. Cheryl, you are reading like your old self
. TwoHobbies, please keep up those photos as I'd like to see the seasons change (in the same setting) sort of like Ruth's wednesday walkers (at the mall). It's a bank holiday Monday here so the gym was quiet this afternoon at body balance even with non-stop rain.

Good idea, Lilac on the pictures. Unfortunately the next season will be coming too soon. I'm a summer girl!
Mary, I've never had a kidney stone but I also heard that kidney stones are more painful than childbirth. I can attest though, that the ride in the ambulance is not as much fun as you are thinking. It's actually very bumpy and I remember thinking why wouldn't they have better suspension when you have injured people in here?
Ann glad to hear your shoulder is improving. Do you ever do your hooping with your arms? I was wondering if that may help your shoulder ROM?
I did weights inside this evening and my 7 minute workout. We have another muggy miserable day so I'm staying indoors. .

Lots of walking today!! Hope everyone had a good day!!!

Hi all. Walked 2 miles on the treadmill as wasn't feeling too great this evening. However not only heard the voices but my labs came in from annual physical last week showing slightly elevated cholesterol (we know that probably comes from AI) but also high blood sugar (also AI?). She's sending me for another test to try and rule out pre-diabetes - Yikes! Doesn't take much to put a scare in to watch food intake and exercise regularly. For sure a lot has to do with this belly fat so I'm motivated to work on it, AI notwithstanding!
Sigh...

Wonderland, you cracked me up.
Ran a 5k this evening plus did some chair dips to tone the upper arms...

They aren't offering pilates at the YMCA this session (boo hoo), so I went to Yoga this morning (I am pretty sure that I am never really going to 'enjoy' it) & then did Zumba tonight.
It was actually quite cool here today (sorry, hot & muggy ladies), which was nice for the kids & teachers on their first day back at school.
Patoo, have you ever tried loseit.com? I just logged on there for the first time since the beginning of summer. I have been doing too much vacationing & need to drop a few pounds before they get too comfortable. Loseit works really well for me (as long as I use it religiously, of course).

Continuing with the "baby steps", did 3 minutes in the elliptical tonight and tomorrow evening I'll go to the YMCA for my Livestrong class.
The elliptical is in the garage without air conditioning so I really can't stand it for too long.
Something's something.

Haven't checked in for a few days. Too busy enjoying my DD being home, getting ready for a garage sale on Thursday (omg, how DO we accumulate so must stuff??!!), and a couple afternoons with DD at gramma's pool (my mom/dad's place). So, getting my 10,000 steps in daily but no targeted workout. MISERABLY humid here but just one more day before a break in the humidity, good weather forecasted for our sale on Thursday, then good chance of rain all through the weekend.
DD had to go through passing a kidney stone when she was working the Guantanamo Bay, Cuba about a year and a half ago. It was difficult for this mommy to think of my baby girl going through that on her own. On the bright side, I still haven't seen any bills fromthe DOD for co-pays or deductibles.
G'night sculpted beauties!
