Hi everyone, My name is Aurora and I'm new to this thread but not to BCO. I've been active in the Bone Thread and Anti-hormonal treatment thread since I have mets to my bones and I'm on Arimidex (generic). I just begun a 12 week training class at my local YMCA sponsored by Lanz Armstrong's Livestrong.org It's free for cancer patients. It runs Tuesdays/Thursdays from 5:30 pm-6:45pm. This last tuesday was my first class and tonite will be my second. I'm hoping to regain range of motion on my right leg where I had a fx due to mets and my goal is to be able to drive a car again. A friend of the family bought an eliptical machine for us, so on the days I don't go to the Y I'll be using that at home. Baby steps at first I can only do a few minutes in the eliptical and in the Y I was able to use the stationary bike and actually turn the pedals over which I hadn't been able to do in Physical Therapy. I would appreciate words of encouragement and help keeping me accountable as I am sedentary by nature. I am very overweight and ER+ which means my body still produces estrogen from the fat, I need to get in shape, please help.

I'll be reading your stories for inspiration as well.

    Thank you

    Aurora

Welcome auroaya!  So sorry you have to be on bc.org in the first place and also sorry you have bone mets.  This thread truly is a great place to be.  We all try to be encouraging to one another and do not judge anyone here on the time spent or speed achieved or type of activity done.  Any movement is better than sitting on the sofa, right?   Even walking 20 yards to the mailbox is an achievement for some folks sometimes.  Good for you for taking the class and having good intentions of using the elliptical at home in between.  Don't beat yourself up if you have days where you don't have any targeted workout - we all have those!  Reporting in that you 'didn't do anything today' will help you keep accountable to yourself and be conscious of your daily activites by actually posting it - it makes you more aware.

Big (((((((hugs))))))) to you on your version of this journey - we love you already!

Welcome Aurora glad that you have found us, please, please, please don't ever feel intimidated as we are all at different levels, when I first started at the gym I couldn't do anything and the YMCA is a fantastic organization so I know you will do well on the program just do what you can and like Lisa says if only a short walk come on and report it, recording your achievement really does help.  Good luck with the Armidex Heidi, have you read the Armidex thread? I learned so much from the Femara thread. Kathy thank you, I am doing better but of course still second guessing my decision, which I think is natural and what I think is helping is that I'm not at home, I'm over in Newport house sitting and I was supposed to go home Saturday but the other family I dog sit for in the same neighborhood contacted me yesterday so I am staying over for a few more days, and just walking dogs in the beautiful neighborhood is very cathartic.

I am having my "day off" today as I am going out to dinner with friends but I will go to the mall after work before dinner and do a little walking as I have to get a bridal shower gift.

Welcome Auroaya and whatever works for you; just make start, and try to post something each day if possible. Claire, you may want to rethink about precycling ibuprofen. I stopped using it before workouts about a year ago from reading this. Cheryl, good to read you chilling a bit. Heidi, hope the Armidex works for you.

Feeling good from body balance this morning and Iyengar yoga (Namaste and RIP BKS Iyengar) and
ashtanga yoga - two different yoga classes I attend on Thursday
    afternoons.

Just came back from my second Livestrong class. I did 10 min on the sit-down stepper; 10 min on the threadmill , 10 min in the stationary bike and 20 leg curls. That is 4 more min on each machine than Tuesday. I am going to try to raise the stakes each time. Thank you for welcoming me to this thread.

Welcome Aurora! Sounds like you are in a good class & off to a great start! Yes, post every day......then you will feel compelled to do some sort of exercise so that you won't have to report, "Sat in my chair and ate bon bons." Smile

I did Core this morning & Zumba tonight. The YMCA starts their fall schedule next week so I will have to study the new class schedule because they are changing lots of things around. Dropping some classes, adding others, changing the times......

Claire, if the way to a man's heart is through his stomach, then you can anyone you want (except perhaps boring 'meat and potatoes only' guy). Wow, your menus sound fabulous!

    Happy Anniversary, Sweet!!!

Welcome Aurora! Looks like you are getting stronger already. Take things at your own pace and just keep moving as much as you can. There will be days where you will not work out but everyone takes a rest day on occasion. I thought I was reasonably fit prior to BC but have stepped up my exercise program and am stronger now than I ever have been.

Exercise today consisted of 2 hours of weeding around the pool, an hour of swimming plus bootcamp. Think I am finally getting back to normal after some sort of bug earlier this week. Will likely not be able to check in tomorrow as I will be attending a concert at a local pavilion. Hence, my exercise will be lots of walking and dancing.

    Happy Friday my sculpted sisters!

Beth - you're way too young to be dealing with this BC sh*t!  Regardless, a very happy anniversary to you too, and here's to you and your DH's 32nd anniversary down the road too!

Feedback on a couple of my texts yesterday was "wicked"! Exercise was a late 2 mile walk plus my normal weights and crunches.

Anyway, it's so fun getting texts that start with things such as "hey, gorgeous".

I want to take the day off, but unfortunately, I have more than 8 hours of work. Will need to be in high gear to get it all done.

Will need to hit the natural market as mostly out of veggies and I don't think we will be back in time to stop somewhere. Thinking peaches with mascarpone for dessert. Simple, delish, and I haven't had the dessert this season.

Should be the most glorious weekend, so can't wait for the cycling adventure. - Claire

Been crazy busy at work this week with all day project planning meetings for the next year's software transition - very draining so I haven't checked in lately.  Cheryl, I am so sorry about Frank.  Please do not second guess yourself.  It's incredibly difficult to hit that perfect time where you're not doing it too early and not doing it too late - in fact it's almost impossible. You just do the best you can.  And I can tell you from my years working in the animal field, it's always better to be a few weeks or even months too early than it is to be weeks or months too late. The decision you made was out of love, and that's never a wrong decision.

Auroaya - welcome!  As others have said, many of could do very little when we started.  Stick with it and you'll surprise yourself how much you'll be able to do in a few months.  Sweet - Happy 32nd!  Obviously 1982 marriages rock!  (DH and I celebrate #32 in September this year.)  Claire - fun texts!!!

I started the running clinic Tuesday evening - we did a 2.5 mile track run to help us find our correct pace group.  I ended up being assigned to the second slowest group which is fine with me.  Our schedule calls for doing a 3 mile run on our own Thursdays, and because the work meetings start early, I had to get up at 5:30am to get that run in, and I am NOT a morning person.  But I did it.  We're scheduled for a 7am (!!!) 3 mile run tomorrow morning which is still early for me, but much better than 5:30am.  We're back to standard DC heat and humidity these days, so these runs are a struggle for me, but they're forcing me out of my comfort zone, which is a good thing.  I didn't do much else this week because the meetings totally wiped me out, but I'm back to my normal schedule now so I can get back on the exercise bandwagon.

NatsFan I would never be able to get up at 5:30 am or 7:00 am to do exercise I am not a morning person either! When I used to work it always felt like I was never really conscious until about 10:00 am which is about when I wake up nowadays:-) You should be proud of yourself that you did it! The weather is another reason I don't like working out outside, another is I don't like to be seeing walking an old fat lady like me. In the gym I feel better especially this YMCA where I go because most people are in my age range and shaped similarly hehe. Any way nice to meet you and go get them!

I was never a morning exerciser until the past 6-7 years.  We finally got a gym in town and my employer originally paid half my monthly fee so I joined right away.  Finally figured out (in my late 40s, btw) that I although I don't like GETTING up early I do like BEING up early.  I get much more out of morning workouts than evenings......I'm just too bushed after work to really give it my all like I can in the morning.  To each her own :)

Speaking of which - nothing so far today except picking up my DD at the airport around noon.  Not sure if I'll attempt a walk/run tonight.  It's so humid here today I can't even stand still in the shade for 2 minutes without sweating like I just got done with a long run.

Went to Insanity this morning, and then even more impressively; left the gym at 9:40, raced home, took a shower, got dressed, did the makeup & hair, tore out the door, and was on time for my yearly eye exam at 10:20!!!!!!

Way to go Ruth - what a woman!

You too Beth - gotta start somewhere. Good job!

I did talk my DD into walking after dinner tonight so just got back from about 40 minutes in the hot muggies.  Not quite the pace I would be with my music but still enough to get the heart rate up a bit.  Nice to have company for a change, and especially nice to have it be DD.  We talk and talk and laugh and laugh - good stuff!

welcome Aurora- you will find lots of motivation and encouragement on this thread.

Heidi- I am also dealing with vitreous detachment. It happened to one eye this winter and the other one this Summer. I never gave any thought to if it could be due to my meds. I have been on Femara(was horrible for me) and now I take aromasin. Tons of floaters too; my vision has gone downhill. Did a dr suggest it was due to meds?

I have definitely turned into a morning exerciser. Went for a 45 min jog at 6:20 this morning. Trying to figure out how to remain a morning exerciser and also make it to school on time. When it stays dark longer I am going to have a problem...

Way to go on your YMCA workouts, Aurora! Keep on posting and soon you may want to go outside ;-)

Ginger, he seemed to think it was due to the lack of estrogen. I had the first eye detach two years ago while on Femara (4.5 years of it). He switched me to Tamoxifen then, but only half the regular dose. I suppose the low dose might have helped delay the second incident for two years. Now he says Arimidex is more tolerable (than what?). Actually I asked him about bazedoxifene but there are retinal issues with the drug, too. I think it's trial and error at this stage, and maybe confusing cancer cells with all the switching, never mind my eyes. Anyway, there's no third eye to worry about.

I have the eye issue too,  ladies.  I blamed mine on chemo!  I hadn't been on the ovarian suppression or AI very long when mine happened, but chemo did stop my periods so maybe it was lack of estrogen.  Anyway, mine largely resolved on its own but scared me to death.  That was 8 months ago.

Auroaya you do whatever you can and if its 10 minutes today, maybe in a couple of weeks it will be 12 and maybe it will still be 10 but you're doing it.

I walked 45 minutes this morning - kind of hard to tell because my app froze on me.  Anyway a thunderstorm just moved in so I'm glad I got my exercise in this morning but I do wish I'd gotten out the grass seed I wanted to.  I hope it brings in some less humid air.  Its been so muggy here that all the windows are fogged up in the morning.

Not a morning person either so I exercise immediately after work.

Went to an outdoor arena concert yesterday and got a great workout since we had lawn seats so I was the designated runner Loopy.  Ran up a stairway consisting of about 15 sets of 5 steps each with landings in between then ran to get the perfect spot. Rounded out the evening with lots of walking. Thanks to Mother Nature, I even got a free shower...LOL

Poured rain off and on here today so my only exercise was walking while running errands.

    Hello everyone and Hello auroaya!

I haven't posted for a few days and there's a lot to catch up on! Loved reading everyone's posts.

I've been busy helping dd set up her 3rd grade classroom. She graduated in December and started working with middle schoolers between 2 different schools. She never really had her own classroom as they were already set up by the time she started working. Now she has her own and it's been so much fun helping her! The students start school on Monday.

I walked/jogged last night and tonight. Like Mary mentioned, it's so humid. I'm always glad when it's over.

Too funny about your "free" shower Odie!
