    rhode-sorry to hear you fell. Hope you are not sore for long.

    Ruth- nice pictures!

    We have gotten 45 inches of snow in the last 6 days. I am going with the farmer's prediction over that groundhog.

    Snowed in yesterday so did some shovel and sculpt. Hit the gym this morning and got in 50 minutes before leaving for school.

    I'm in La Jolla this week for the PGA golf tournament. Lovely weather so I got a 3 mile run in this afternoon. Calling it a run is generous - lots of walking. I'm getting a little depressed about my lack of progress. Three and a half weeks since lasts chemo and two days into rads. I'm trying to be patient but I'd love to hear from others how long it took you to regain your pre-treatment level of fitness

    It was race day at spin class this very early cold morning. I am skipping barre class later and going directly to restorative yoga!

    LA - here's my post chemo exercise saga. One week after my last chemo, I hopped on the elliptical for the first time in weeks. I lasted exactly 5 minutes before I was completely exhausted! And the whole time I was on it, the machine kept blipping off because I was going so slowly. Before chemo I'd been able to knock off a hour on the elliptical routinely. As you can imagine, going from an hour to being unable to do more than a slow 5 minutes was a bit of a shock! I also started a gentle yoga class a week out of chemo. The first class I could only hold a couple of poses a couple of seconds before I had to stop - that also was a shock. If you could do a walk-run of 3 miles just 3 weeks out of chemo, you've made a ton more progress than I had by that time, and I bet that's true for most of us here who did chemo.

    Chemo is an effective treatment, but as my onc once said, the point of chemo is to poison you as much as they can, just short of killing you. Your body has been under a terrible assault for weeks, and now you're starting rads which is a different kind of assault. Exercise is good, but you also have to give your body a chance to recover from the tremendous insult it's undergoing. Just keep moving the best you can - a three mile walk-run is amazing. Stick with it and you will make progress. It will be slower than you want, but it will happen if you stick to it.

    Badger - your Sun Prairie groundhog was a bit feisty! I think these people who do these groundhog ceremonies forget that they are dealing with a wild animal. They need to respect that fact.

    Patoo - I love Shark Tank too. I thought the doggie patch delivery service was brilliant!

    LA as Mary said, your body has been under assault. There's a lot of talk these days about gut flora and helping repair and heal. One way to help is by eating fermented foods (sauerkraut, kimchi). If you purchase make sure it's not pasteurized. And eating whole foods and good fat to absorb the minerals. Just saying!

    Sounds like you are making great strides.

    Chiming in here as was relatively active throughout chemo. At the same time, there were a lot of things I couldn't do...such as any major hills cycling. It was more like six weeks than three weeks post chemo when I suddenly noticed I was power walking. Then another energy dip at the end of rads. That took another 3.5 weeks for my energy to start to come back up. Then another six months to be nearly at full energy. I did all the summer cycling events anyway.

    I think lavender chocolate macaroons are the miracle food here. I was doing the 3 Rose Gardens Ride in Seattle with friends, and we stopped by Honore Bakery for some refreshments. An hour or so later, I noticed that I was starting to regain my energy!

    Somewhere around 2 years ago, I got better than ever climbing hills. I can now do all the hills of the Seattle-to-Portland whereas before I had to walk 3-4 of them. I just grind my way up them.

    Great oncology visit on Monday except for one thing. I was running late, so did a very brisk walk up Capitol Hill to my onc's office. Then they took my blood pressure while my heart was still pounding. Fortunately, no one was worried about the sky high reading. I did ask my oncologist why I need so much protein. Her reply: because of all the exercise you get, and you need it to build muscle!

    Dear LARock! Great advice from Mary and Olaf!! Chemo takes such a toll on your body! I remember the fatigue! Just take one day at a time, and know this is temporary! You will be your old self!! Wow, Have fun at the PGA! I think you are doing great with the 3 mile run!

    I am announcing that I'm going out for a walk at lunch today and then I'll have to follow through!

    Ginger that is a lot to shovel and sculpt. We ONLY have 20 here.

    LaRock I could not even walk up a flight of stairs without stopping or go for a 15 minute walk after chemo. It was scary! Do what you can and then do slightly more and you'll work your way back to normal.

    2/4- hour of resistance training at the gym, followed by 30 laps in the pool. Dang, I feel good after that!

    Mary, yes to the doggie patch service. I'm love seeing the different, interesting, ideas people come up with and guessing which shark, if any, will fund them. Have to admit I'm usually screaming at Mr Wonderful.

    Hmmm, what's on tonight as need motivation. Nah, tired and think will take tonight off as my back is hurting for some reason.

    Hello, I am finally home, unpacked & sitting in my recliner. Whew! Did a 30 minute pilates DVD in between unpacking & going through the mail. Fun to be gone, fun to be home too!

    Jazzy, those are the Superstition Mountains partially enshrouded in clouds in the picture.

    LA, my story is that I was pretty active during chemo (probably overly so considering how creepy I felt) and (maybe because I had kept exercising) part way through radiation I could actually FEEL my energy returning (which is surely not the norm). That being said, although I felt better & better the farther out I got; it took me forever to feel 'normal/normal'. I've read that however long you were in 'active treatment', expect that it will take you that long again to bounce all the way back. Personally, I'd say double the time. Don't be depressed, be impressed (with yourself). You are doing great!

    50 minutes on the treadmill this morning, including a 2 mile run.

    Went out to dinner for DD 23rd birthday tonight. Hoping to get to the gym in the morning but it looks like we may get MORE snow!

    20 mins on the elliptical followed by some weights and core work in the gym.

    Tabata and core this morning. Having a big visit with the dentist as I am taking out some silver fillings that have been in my mouth way to long! So I am actually looking forward to it, if that's possible.;)

    Olaf, good on getting rid of old amalgam fillings. Could not use village hall for pink pilates this morning (village players have a production this weekend) so we met up for coffee at a garden center and had a meeting about our our big fund raiser for PRP on July 18th (fingers crossed, no rain). Back on food committee and we are planning a vegetarian lunch for 60.

    Earlier this afternoon Iyengar yoga in the village hall on the hill and later in the afternoon, hatah yoga back in town at the gym.

    I've had a hard time getting consistent exercise in lately. I walked to and from and appointment this week, for about 1.3 miles or so. I need to get at least a couple of good 30-minute walks in before the week's over. I'm returning to work next week (not completely full-time, but more than half) and need to create some new routines for myself that support healthy eating and regular exercise. I think I'm starting rads next week, most likely, too.

    Today went to my Livestrong at the YMCA class and did 6 minutes in the machine that you "pedal" with your arms 3 minutes forward and 3 minutes backward at the end of the work out during stretch time I was able to reach behind my back and grab my hands which I hadn't been able to do in 2 and a half years!! I will repeat that machine next time I'm in. I also did 10 minutes in the "sit down" stepper and 6 minutes in the recumbent bike. Felt vigorous exercise for me. In contrast last Tuesday when I went to the same class I was feeling low and tired and couldn't do as much. I was feeling like I was coming down with a cold at the time so that's probably what happened. I appreciate all of you and what you do to keep active please send me positive vibes from where you are so I can get better at this.

    Good job, aurora! Always fun when you see visible progress!

    Went to my Cardio Sculpt class this morning & in a few minutes will go to Zumba. I am excited because my favorite teacher, who has been on maternity leave, will be leading the class.

    2/5- nice end of the day walk for 30 minutes on this spring like day.

    Cassie- I worked PT through rads and felt pretty tired during and for awhile after, so be easy on yourself with the exercise expectations. I just tried to do some walks when I could, even if they were 15 or 20 minutes.

    Good protein, fruits and veggies will also help you through nutritionally.

    Walked an hour on the treadmill this morning. We had snow and ice so I ended up at school with no students ( I teach 1/2 day sessions and the roads were too slippery for midday busses) I spent 5 hours cleaning out a storage area and moving heavy furniture. I will probably be sore tomorrow.

    Not exercise for me yesterday as I am fighting a nasty cold. Went to bootcamp tonight anyway and was pleasantly surprised to find that I felt better while working out.

    Love to see how active everyone is and what a variety of exercise we accomplish. Off to enjoy a hot bubble bath and head to bed early for extra rest.

    Wonderful to see all the activity, and Ruth great pic of you in AZ.

    Logged 7.5 miles walked since last post, went to the indoor track last night & tonight. 

    I've been tracking food, nutrition, exercise and weight on loseit.com.  It's really helping me to be accountable.  For motivation, they award you 'badges' when you reach various milestones.  So far I've earned the regular badge (log every day for two weeks), exercise buff (exercise at least 3x per week for two weeks), dedicated (log every day for four weeks), exercise hound (exercise at least 3x per week for four weeks), and the Ten Pound (weight loss) Club.  Hokey but fun!

    Mary, yeah Jimmy was feisty.  (He bit the Mayor's ear and it made the national news.)  I might be, too, if you pulled me out of a nice warm den to be fussed over by men in funny hats.  ♥

    Hi All! Great reading what everyone is doing. I have the motivation to continue painting so today I prepped one of the bedrooms and just now finished painting the walls. Only thing left is the ceiling and floor/door trim. As much as I hate to admit it, I kinda like painting. The best part is when it's all over and you have a beautiful, clean room!

    I got in a 2 mile run today right after rads. Also ran around getting ready for our new puppy to arrive on Sunday! We're all so excited to have a new little fuzz ball. She will be a new form of exercise

    Wonder - I've been laughing at how your painting project progressed. You start with one small project, and that leads to something else which leads to something else! Kind of like our basement a few years ago - all we wanted to do was replace the carpet, and somehow it morphed into taking down a wall, and painting and recarpeting the entire area! Bet everything looks beautiful now that you're finishing up.

    LA - what kind of puppy? I love puppy breath!!

    30 minute run on the dreadmill last night. Still doing lots of Declutter and Sculpt every night after work, and this weekend we'll start Pack and Sculpt - we're moving in just over 3 weeks! Shocked
