CALLING ALL STAGE I SISTERS

Happy Thanksgiving to all my BC sistas! I feel so blessed to know you!
Nicole112...I think that if you have a 6% chance of reoccurence and it is increased by 20% because you also have dense boobies, then it's 20% higher than 6% or .06 times .20 which equals a 1% increase.
So you would have a 7% chance of reoccurence instead of a 6% chance because you also have dense breasts.
I do too...that's why I'm whacking them off in February! I cant deal with the anxiety!

Hello All,
Greeting to all my fellow Stage 1-ers! I'll be visiting this board occasionally, as time permits. I am glad to have a new, permanent "home" on these discussion boards, especially now, since I am between a bilat mx (mid-October) and adjuvant treatment to be determined.
I just saw an oncologist for the first time this afternoon, and she ordered the BRCA 1 & 2 and the Oncotype DX test for me. Even if the BRCA test is negative for both mutations, I am still very glad I chose to have the bilat MX, since my mother fought a long BC battle 25+ years ago, and passed away from complications. The onc is recommending the BRCA test for me to see if I am also at high risk for ovarian cancer. So I have my fingers crossed for a negative BRCA test and a low Oncotype score! After I get my treatment plan squared away, I will begin planning for reconstructive surgery, since I did not have it at the time of my mx.
I hope to stay in touch as time permits on this board. Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Lindissima and cake, thank you for your interpretation of the study on dense breasts. It just reminds us to always be on alert.
Happy Turkey Day ladies, I am starting the morning with a walk so I can feel a bit less guilty later We are taking Grandma out and then we are yaking our 5th wheel out with my 2 yr old and 10 yr old... what my hubby does not know, where we are camping there are outlet stores a half mile away, looks like I get the best of both worlds!
Stay Safe and Hugs to All!

I'm a newbie to all of this and need some help "from the trenches" in making a difficult chemo decision. I'm 50 and have stage 1 BC, ER+/PR+, HER2- with an onco score of 17. Although I'm in the "low risk" scale, I'm at the high end of it. I had the lumpectomy in october and sentinal nodes were clear. My Doc is pretty much leaving it up to me whether chemo will be part of my treatment. My survival odds are listed at 95% with chemo and 89% without. He says that the chemo regimen would consist of 4 cycles, with one treatment per cycle with Taxotere and cytoxin. I plan on radiation and Tamoxifen, but chemo will come first. If my score was in the intermediate or high range, this decision would be a "no-brainer" and I'd have no choice but to do it. But because my score is where it is, chemo is an option for me and I'm trying to decide if the side effects and risks assocated with chemo are worth the small 6% benefit I would gain. Has anyone else been in this position or willing to be me some insight?

Nicole, I thought you might be camping at the beach in Pismo! We are heading to Central Coast winecountry tomorrow. We used to take our trailer over there, but have become good friends with a winery owner and his wife and now stay at their guest house.

Beggy, Sorry about your dx. I can't help since my dx was TN, treatments vary so much. I wasn't given options other than MX or lumpectomy. The rest was what I was told I needed to do.

Beggy,
If I had that decision, I would want the highest percentage of prognosis of it NOT coming back. I did not need chemo because of the size of the tumors IDC 6mm, DCIS 7mm, all three of my team of doctors said NO to chemo, I did not need it but if they were iffy and left it up to me I would say YES to chemo.
But that is up to you.
keep in touch♥

Beggy... That is a decision you have to make and its not an easy one. Even if you decide chemo you will be fine. Welcome to our group. And we are here for you.
MY SISTERS-MY FRIENDS I WISH YOU ALL AN ENJOYABLE DAY. NO DIETING TODAY!

Beggy, Look at my Dx line below...I am VERY similar to you with my tumor being just a bit smaller. I had an Onco DX score of 18 and did not opt for any chemo BECAUSE I was told my risk would only decrease 2% with the chemo. This was the computation that my Med-Oce got from Adjuvant Online. I had rads and just began Tamox. Send me a PM if you have any questions. Also curious why they did not sample your nodes?
HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO MY STAGE I SISTERS!

Hello all of my stage 1 sisters. Happy Thanksgiving, and blessings to all of you and your families today.
Beggy, I just finished 4 rounds of T/C on Nov. 12th. I had an oncotype of 24 and am part of the TAILORx trial, I was randomized to chemo. With my score I would have opted to do the chemo without the trial. In your position, knowing what I know now after having done the chemo, I would most likely not do it. The thing is we each have to do what gives us peace of mind. Chemo is no picnic, but you will be okay if you chose to do it. It is hard to be in such a grey area like you are and I will keep a good thought for you as you make your decision. Please keep us posted, and know that we will be here to support you no matter what. Good luck.
I love you all,
Susan

Beggy,
I also found the part about deciding about chemo to be confusing and difficult. I had an onco score of 15. In the end, I decided that I really didn't want to deal with the side effects of chemo. I had radiation and then hormonal therapy, and to add just a bit more, I'm also doing a study that uses ovarian suppression. Some studies show that ovarian suppression may be what happens with chemo anyway, and that reducing the hormone is what gives women the benefit in terms of recurrence. So I opted for that route. Good luck with your decision. Do what is best for you.

Ladies, how come I do not know my oncotype, never heard of it before these boards???? I wasn't given a score, I was given a directive to go to chemo!... but I am assured that my prognosis is wonderful... seems a bit confusing... oh lord don't let my brain start going places..:) For me, it may have been easier that the choice was not mine.
BTW- Leaving in the morning for camping, can't wait... hope you all had a wonderful day, I ate well and had a nice glass of wine .
CHEERS!

Hello to all, hope you had a nice Thanksgiving! I drove from MA to NH and, after dinner, was sitting with a grandchild on my lap and I guess I dozed off. Have never done that before. I guess I didn't snore, which was a good thing. Needless to say the hour and a half ride home went well as I was "refreshed" from my nap. Oh us Grandmothers.........Sue

Sue, I drove from MA to Duxbury and that took and hour and a half too. I was so tired and wishing I cold have napped!! I'm not even a Grandma! I think it was all the turkey and good food! Glad you had fun on Thanksgiving.

Nicole,
You asked why you hadn't known about the oncotype score and why you didn't have one. Well earlier in this thread I said somewhat the same thing. I actually said it must be new because I never had it. I was told that it was given to women who are both ER+/PR+. Sounds like a resonable explanation for both of us.
Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving

I was er/pr+ over 90% and did not have the onco score test. I'm gonna ask on my next onc appt which is in Feb. It is probably too late now.
I only had 10 mins to drive to my sisters but had to pick up my Dad so that accounts for about 45 mins. LOL
