GD, RCG and Oakley - bigs (((HUGS))) for you! I must say, the tiredness I had during rads was weird. It would show up at strange times and it was like I had narcolepsy, BAM I HAD to take a nap. Usually 15 minutes would do it and before BC and since rads, I cannot sleep at all unless I am lying down. Not during rads. I could sleep in a chair, in a car, anywhere.
I had had 10 tx (I did the Canadian protocol 16 tx @a higher dose) and I thought, let me just get a 15 minute nap. Lay down@ 5:30PM and woke up @6:30AM. I really didn't see THAT coming,
Anyway, my advice is rest when your body says it needs rest and you will do just fine.
And use emu oil 3-4/day and you will not burn. I guarantee it.

BarbaraA - My rad fatigue experience sounds like yours. I would hit with no notice and I would have to take power naps all the time and could sleep anywhere. Usually can't sleep unless I am laying down and it is perfectly quiet.0
-
Thanks Barbara. All went well and I feel no differently yet - tired or anything. But I know it will be coming! I was going to use Aquafor which I heard was good - where do you find emu oil? A drugstore? I ended up not having the Canadian (the tech had said it was the Canadian even though it was 23/7 = 30 treatments - needless to say she was mistaken), I clarified it with my rad onc this morning. Also just had a baseline pelvic ultrasound - I guess one of the very rare side effects of tamoxifen is uterine cancer...ugh...but very very rare.

3jaysmom - That is way too cute. Made me laugh

Thanks 3jays mom.
Oakley glad it went well. I didn't get tired or feel anything different for the first few days at all.
Today, I mentioned that my nipple was ever so slightly tender. They told me to put cortaid on it and they taped it down during rads because anything that "protrudes" is perhaps more sensitive. Hopefully that is all it takes.

You can get emu oil in any health food store. I tried cortaid at the rad onc's recommendation maybe 4 tx from the end, as the boob had developed red spots. They didn't hurt or itch but I applied it twice and it got worse so I did 3 more emu oil and was fine after that. Should have just stuck with the emu oil. Even the rad onc was amazed at how the skin was.

Thanks 3jaysmom.
Thanks Barbara - I will look for it as we have a health food store right nearby. Curious of what my rad onc will say when I suggest it because I do like to check with her - but I am very very interested to try it.
HUGS to everyone.

raincity, my nipple got very sore during the rads. I ended up buying the cotton exercise bras and wore them exclusively. I found two kinds one with snaps in the front and the other where I had to slip over my head. I wish I had found the emu oil.

oakley ~ grannyD ~ RCG ~~ It sounds like you all are on the right track in your rads tx. I remember when I first started, I looked at my calendar & thought, OMG, this is going to be such a long period of time undergoing these treatments 5 days a week. But, the time really did go by quickly, it seemed before I knew it, I was finished. Keep creaming that skin, rest a lot & you'll be on the other side before you know it.
Gentle Hugs to all!

Good morning everyone! I'm going to hit 50 posts today so just wanted to say HELLO and send some HUGS.
Val - THANKS!! Only number 2 but it's getting tiresome already! Especially when I had to bring my dog to the emergency room last night until 1am - she chewed and punctured my daughter's asthma inhaler. She had to stay overnight for monitoring and medications...and tonight too.
Supposed to snow again this weekend! I'm in NJ...

good morning...Here goes my stupid question
My father gave me a big jar of cashews purchases from Costco.
As much as I love them I cant start stuffing my face with them.
What should I do? Do the birds eat nuts?
Sorry

Seyla, I bought DH one of those jars from Costco last month. I agree, I could sit and eat the whole jar. Since I bought them for him, I didn't feel it would be nice to do that, so I just rationed myself. They work great on the plumbing so I considered them a healthy treat. I would probably put them into serving sized plastic bags. Then put them back into the jar and place the jar in the freezer. They don't taste as appealing when they are so cold, so just get one bag out when you want some, let it come to room temp and enjoy.0

Thanks Sheila and Meece - great pictures!
As far as the nuts go - I LOVE cashews but never buy them because of how addicting/fattening they can be in large portions (I have no willpower). Great idea to put them in little serving size bags - I don't know, maybe 10 a day? And for some delicious variety you could always melt chocolate chips and dip the cashews in there...

We have jar of those as well, DH mixes them with the chocolate covered raisins, chocolate covered almonds, and plain almonds. A big bowl of fatty goodness. FIL just left so those snacks will decrease thankfully.
Sheila - make a batch of cashew brittle and give it out to other people you would like to see get fat.

Diane...I need to make a list

I love Mackarel and blue fish but they have to be caught fresh.

You made me laugh though, now that I know you didn't post on the right thread. been know to do that myself.

Sheila - I love cashews - I will help you eat them. At this point in my life, what does it matter if I overindulge just a little bit?
0 -
jo...its a 40 oz jar.
Meece mentioned to put it in small bags. But knowing myself probably I will pick more than 1 bag.
I wish it wasnt open I would donate it to food pantry.

Jo: Seyla, myself and about 20 other women here are on a quest to watch our eating and fitness this year. We have banded together to support one another through whatever choices we make to get to our goals. That's why she mentioned that her last post was on the wrong thread.

Since we are on the topic of food at the moment, I am trying to eat healthier. Unfortunately I don't like healthy things - like salad, fish (although i will eat lobster and shrimp which are bad for the cholesterol!). I will eat chicken but get tired of it. I did at one time adapt a healthy lifestyle for about 2-3 years and lost 18 lbs (which was a lot for me, and too much actually), but my evil side took over again and I gained it all back and some. I know I need to change - it's just so darn difficult. I did start to exercise again about a month ago, so maybe that's a start. I just wish I liked fish and salad! My bad for mentioning the chocolate for the cashews. Ignore that!
