Here is a quote from Faithandfifty about E-LAB. I couldn't say it better, so I am letting her words stand:
There is a lovely little thread under 'fitness' called ELAB -- which stands for "Eat Like a Bird" and has been active for nearly a year. To make a long story short, we are currently 'recruiting' new birdies who wanna be held accountable for their own fitness goals: weight loss, veggie intake, exercise increase -- whatever the goal might be.
We have divided into 4 teams and are going to have a contest between now and Mar 8 (the thread's first anniversary.)
Today the moderators came on the thread at least 3 times, congratulating us on our little support system & talking about the direction BCO wants to turn with integration of health/proactive/wellness/weigh loss/smoking cessation etc etc. We all flipped out to have the mods asking us if we were willing to be interviewed.
They were also asking us what we wanted from BCO when it comes to the above.
Please feel free to jump in as an ELAB full member -- or read along there for supportive ideas. We have quite a few regular Middies, so you're bound to see some familiar names. One of our regulars has lost nearly 100 pounds and we are so very proud of her efforts.
Anyhow, if you've ever wanted a cheering section for your efforts on your own behalf, now's the time!! We do publicly announce our weight (tho that's not critical to membership) and tomorrow is our first Fri weigh in of the New Year.
Get in on the ground floor of an exciting new phase of BCO!
I second faith's invitation and would love to see any of you there. Several of you are already participants. Come check it out if you'd like:

I will let you all know how much more weight I will loose after my colonoscopy. Doc has me on a different regime. 2 days of liquids instead of 1, going to do the halflytely prep. Tomorrow will be my last meal until Jan 10 in the pm.

You wont be eating anything for 2 days???????
0 -
Yup, 2 whole days. My last colonoscopy 5 years ago was incomplete so I had to make another appt and take more freakin time off work to have a Barium Enema w/air Contrast. It was just so aggravating. Good thing is the doctor that performed the procedure was the same doctor that discovered my BC. So glad to say he gave me a clean bill off health on the procedure. Nothing found although I do have diviticulosis and a B9 polyp was removed during the colonoscopy. Tubular Adenoma.

That was March of 06.

I think its time for my bone density test. Every 2 years right?

I asked for a Dexa and my GP said not for 5 years. Colonoscopy coming up though.

I had a dexa the last week in Dec to make sure it got covered by my old insurance.....
0 -
Because of the Femara Im entitled every 2 years by my Insurance.
0 -
on our forced new insurance - we are self employed so they can do whate ver they want to us - i will not be covered for the rest of my radiation at the previous 80%, but at 50%. Dexa scans, mammo's and MRI's etc. will not be either as they are now diagnostic rather than preventative.
0 -
I was told my Dexa would not be covered, so wait.
0 -
Why is it that always women are targeted by Insurance people.
I dont know but sometimes i feel that way.
And no i have no problems everything is covered.
0 -
Typically anything directly concerning BC is covered. If you were a lawmaker or insurance exec would you want to go up against us?
The other stuff is probably to make up for the BC coverage.

Regence has really hurt us financially with this change = radiation costs between 65-75K. Not only that but they forced our disabled daughter off our plan which is not ok so I will now be contacting the insurance commissioner as this is not allowed.
Thanks for reminder to check on when I need another colonoscopy

Wow.... again with reading 4 pages to catch up!! you ladies do love to talk! haha!! Love you girls
Diane and anyone else interested, I agree with Meece, Patoo, Michelle and Sheila... come on over to E-Lab. If you don't want to post your weight right now you don't have to. We try to weigh in every Friday and Meece posts our weight. It is only meant to motivate us personally to be accountable. As for weight gain I know I have not been very good during the holidays and my surgery. It's hard especially on these "oral chemo" drugs we have to take that change our appetitie and metabolism. Right now I can't exercise because of my surgery, it's going to be another 4 weeks at least till I can just start walking on the treadmill.
I wish I could get on here more it is so hard when I have to share a computer with my daughter. The only time she isn't on here is when she is working and is with her husband on the weekends. Hopefully in a couple of months I will get mine repaired and won't have to use hers.
So glad to hear everyones rads and chemo txts are going well. They are forecasting more snow for us for Sunday. Woo Hoo!!! My boss is also going to be gone most of next week, he is going to Glendale, AZ for the BCS Game with Auburn and Oregon on 1/10/11 (Auburn grad).

Mimi....I put you down as one of our E-Lab team leaders since you have been so active on the thread. If you don't want to be, let me know. There's been an explosion in the E-Lab since yesterday morning.

Wow - you ladies have been busy. I was off the computer last night - felt in a real funk and just went to bed. Much better today. Actually slept 4 straight hours after having to get up and change the sweaty clothes. TGIF -Looking forward to the weekend.
Have A Great Day Ladies.

Renee-you tell your boss that there is no way he's winning that game! GO DUCKS!

Yes, indeed, the Ducks will waddle all over Auburn. At least I hope so, or my U of O alumni live-in sister-in-law will be impossible to live with!

Being from Seattle, I have difficulty rooting for ducks.

HELLO EVERYBODY-
I just dropped in to say hi. Hope everyone here is doing okay. I have been hanging out on the October 2010 Mastectomy thread lately because many of the sisters there are getting their exchange surgeries in March like me...will be so glad to get rid of the expanders. ( I call them the coconut bra, because now, fully expanded, that's how heavy it feels.) Time for me to pop in my Zumba disc and get some exercise, although it's really more fun than exercise.

Actually, after my chemo I had started Tamoxifan from Feb,2006, then it was switched to Arimidex from July,2007. Taking into account of the day when I started taking Tamoxifan ,the aromatize therapy for me is already completed five years. May be because of of the completion of five years (Tamoxifan + Arimidex) , my doctor has stopped me. But I am confused now thinking that whether it will be safe for me to carry my life without any medication or not as he did not tell me. He was just saying that normal monthly self examination should be carried out myself.

raj...Nice to see you're back.
I mentioned this before but I will be in the same situation like you in about 2 months.
Femara will stop in March after exactly 5 years.
Yes..I'm uneasy about it but what can we do. We have each other here which is a blessing.
