CALLING ALL STAGE I SISTERS

Hi: This is Karen Simone, Thank you for the responses. This is a great site. I have learnt a lot. Still no results. I called today as it is one week. The nurse said it can be from 7-10 days. Trying to be patient . My next question is what are boosts. Is it part of radiation and what side effects are there?
Thank you everyone

karen, most of the radiation treatments are aimed at the entire breast. At the end of the treatment a number of them are concentrated at the excision site to try to insure that any malignant cells that might have been left behind are dead. The number of treatments and boosts vary from doctor to doctor and patient to patient.

annettek: Yup - good days, bad days, great days, sad days. Fortunately, my bad and sad days are few and far between right now, but it ain't over yet .
Good luck with the procedure next week. I'll think good thoughts for you even though you bailed on me last week!

Annette, I vowed I would never have long hair after the age of 40. When I was diagnosed at 40 and lost all my hair, my outlook changed. I hate to cut my hair now. I keep it past my shoulders. Life is funny that way. Although, when I said no tatoos, I didn't know radiation would come with six of them. I tease that one is a butterfly, a heart, etc...you'd just have to get a microscope to see the detail!

welcome Karen and Marie so sorry you galls have to join us here but it is a great place for support and to ask questions so fire away.
Annette we will all be in your pockets on Wed. Hope the fat graphting goes well for you. I always said I would not get a tattoo, little did I know radiation would bring them on. I have always told my boys how much I dislike their tatoos so needless to say they have gotten a big laugh out of my radiation tattos.

Sherry I did the same thing with my daughter and son about not liking the tattoo's and it came back and bit me in the butt when I had to get the radiation tattoo's. I remember crying for a week when I found out. I do know there are some places that will just use a sharpie. To be honest I never really understood the point of them because the place I had rads at still used the sharpie markers every few days even though I had the tatts...it made absolutely no sense at all.
Annette I will be in your pocket with you when you have your surgery. Prayers and hugs!
Sheila waiting for you to get home. Hoping you have a safe flight

Sherry & Mimi - I don't think radiation tats should count. No one can see them but us and I know with my little 3 they look more like freckles. Since I was not told ahead of time I was even going to get them - I would not have let me. Not concerned about it now.

Hi: Its karensimonne again. I finally got my results. Luckily my lymph nodes are clean but I need another surgery. She said the recovery will be less because they do not do lymph nodes and use same incision in breast. I was wondering if anyone could let me know how it went for them. Did you have to have chemo? How was the recovery
Thank you,
Karen

Karensimone: I had a second surgery to clear up the margins and it went way better than the surgery with the SNB.... I went home that day and in a few days was feeling good...the key is not to over due and rest... In my case I had a micrometasteses in one lymph node but was encapsulated in that node... they did a oncotype score and it came back 8 - so I didn't need chemo... I had radiation 6 weeks after my surgery...

My daughter is an artist and wants to turn my dots into more elaborate tatts for an anniversary. Hope to make it to an anniversay (had to say that first!) and never thought I would consider it, but...

Thought I would share some good news with my Stage 1 sisters.... my son called me this week and was able to offer me a stay-at-home computer job... he talked to his bosses and they ok'd it... my husband is also merging his business with his friend's business and his friend is going to beable to write him a regular paycheck.... even though our finances are in the pits...we can at least pay our house payment and living expenses....God is good!!! We went to a credit help place last week and they told us we couldn't go bankrupt because we had too much equity in the house...even though we couldn't get to the equity.... with some regular paychecks that might change and maybe we could get our payments lowered... Again God is good!!!
All my Stage 1 SISTERS - have a great holiday weekend!!!

Annette - How about we bring food and stuff so you can share with us when you are finished?? I hve to at least have my morning coffee.
GmaFoley - Sounds like a doable plan - I know it is tough these days.
SAB - Don't be silly - of course, you are going to make it to that first anniversary and the one after and the one after and ..................................................
Karen - Can't help you - I had clear margins the first go around and did not need chemo but it looks like some in the know have already chimed in and helped.

My plan was to get a tattoo (five petalled flower or a fish or two) to celebrate one year but on the plavix for my heart attack in the spring, I bruise so easily that I am afraid to go and get one..where is my fearlessness of my 30's? I am also nervous about having anything done on the left side because of the suggestiong not to have your BP taken or blood taken from your BC side....the little tatt freckles don't bother me but it did irk tha they used marker anyhow...you could see the marker through some of my shirts and I went back to work after radiation most days!

Karen, I must be blind--did not see the node news...a big YAY for you! I guess that reexcision is very common, so don't worry. And Gma Foley, sounds like some wonderful new beginnings. Sandee isn't it funny that they mark us anyway? I looked like one of those cow posters showing all the cuts of meat after going in for my dry run!
Jo, thanks for shaking me out of my blue thoughts. They sneak up sometimes when I'm not looking.

nope on the coffee...if I can't have it NOBODY gets it (i am a selfish wench) everybody is welcome the more the merrier I say:) Man it is beautiful outthis morning...I threw all the windows open....finally a break in the weather (which is sad when you consider I am celebrating a projected high of only 96 as opposed to 106 hahaha)
SAB- those sneaky blue thoughts are buggers...this is the best place to shake em:)0 -
Hey Valjean - Hope you have a great weekend0

@seyla888...Thank you for the definition of TM...was wondering myself what that was. I'm just starting ths entire procedure...go next Wednesday to talk to my primary doctor about next steps to take after an inconclusive mammogram and US. Either an MRI or wait and do again in three/six months is what I'm thinking. Any suggestions? I get mammograms every year and there is no lump, so I would think it would be stage 1 if at all. I do have dense breasts because of hormone replacement therapy.
It's been good for me to read these posts and find so many corageous women. I wish you all the very best!

Stay safe all my sistas and enjoy the Holiday...God bless.hugggs K0

I met with the surgeon yesterday and they have set surgery for the 19th. She highly recommended a lumpectomy and rads for 6 weeks. She said a mastectomy would not benefit me. She also said the ONC will decide on hormone therapy but no Chemo! She doesn't expect to have any positive lymph nodes...but I know from reading these posts that you can always have surprises. I am so relieved but feel a sense of great sadness for all the sweet sisters on this board that are really going through so much.

Kaara if you have dense breast go for an MRI if you can. If there is any cancer it will most likely show up and you are right it will be early. But the earlier the better. I too have dense breast and my tumor did not show on mammo but they were actually looking at something else and when I had the MRI done it showed on that. The Dr's were shocked.
