If you have Stage I,ER positive, 1 cm, Grade 2/3,Ductal carcinoma and no lymph nodes involved why would you have chemo and not just do radiation with femara or arimidex. I think the oncotype score is just something else to make your worry and get you to do chemo. Any input would be appreciated.

I had the Oncotype DX done because I wanted to hear that I didn't need chemo and wasn't just making an emotional decision. According to the results, chemo wouldn't decrease my recurrence risk at all, so I didn't do it. I was a Grade 1 so maybe the higher grade indicates that chemo is beneficial? Is this an Oncotype DX score? I was worried about paying for it but my insurance covered 100% (since I already met my out-of-pocket).

I had the Oncotype DX done on my oncologist suggestion and ended up in the middle group but opted for radiation and tamoxifien and my oncologist was in full aggreement.

As you can see my diagnosis below, my oncologist wanted me to have the OncoType DX done to prove I didn't need chemo. My score was high-42% possibility of recurrence in 5 years-I did chemo. Every individual is unique and will do what feels right for themselves.

They didn't do Oncotype when I was DX.
If they did to other women I don't know.
My tumor was 1.2cm and had a lumpectomy and a re-excision. but I had chemo, Herceptin, radiation and still on Femara.
Matbe 5 years back things were different or maybe because of my HER+ status.
I have no regrets about my treatment.

Valerie...Didn't you mention while back you ordered a pedometer from Amazon.
They have so many of them. What made you decide beside the price which one to get?

Missing Person...Did anybody know where Nicole is?

I am also ER+ and PR- My oncologist told me they have known for years the connection between alcohol and BC. He said to limit alcohol to occasionally and only one drink. I loved my glass of wine every night with dinner and I hate feeling guilty when I do drink wine 2 or 3 times a week. He said alcohol of any kind has an estrogen effect on the body and here I am 100% estrogen positive. I hate giving up small pleasures!

figgy652......Scientist are connecting every possible thing to BC.
I never smoked and only drank on special occasions.
Nobody in my family was DX with BC.
Because I had no risk factors maybe little overweight ..........
DR calls it Accidental BC.

What does DX mean? I am new to this. Anyway, the first onc I saw suggested that at 56 my daily glass or two of wine could have been the reason I got breast cancer. I was so upset. I changed Dr's and the new one said to limit alcohol to not daily and in moderation. I feel not so lucky to be PR- It is the reason I started arimidex a month ago after radiation and lumpectomy. Still trying to navigate all of this. I am having a hard time learning to live with uncertainty.

Sheila ~ I just rec'd my pedometer today. I got the Omron Go Smart Tri-Axis HJ-303. I read tons of reviews on Amazon about it & decided on it due to those testimonials. I walk briskly & it will record that & jogging if I have the unit attached to a belt or the top of my pants with a holder according to the directions. Everyone seemed to like it being digital, slim enough to put in your purse, pants or shirt pocket at any angle for moderate walking & that it is silent, does not have that clicking sound of a pendulum. It also computes distance in miles, which is something I really wanted. Many of the users said they had tried many, many pedometers & were very happy with this one. Some even went so far as to say how long the battery lasted & the fact that it has a sleep mode (wish my heart monitor watch did) was a selling point for me as well.
I really like the looks of it & I got it all set for Thursday. Have the Grandkids coming for a couple of hours tomorrow, with Mom & Dad of course, for a little visit to drop off the cat before they go to Florida for a week. Can't wait to try it out! By the way, it was $32.74 so I qualified for free shipping.
I also never smoked, special occasion alcohol, no bc in the family (Mom passed of uterine/ovarian cancer - risk there?), maybe 10#'s overweight according to Gov. regulations (?). So I must be an accident, too, huh?

figgy--I am 100% estrogen positive and I NEVER drink even a drop of alcohol...never liked the taste. The docs also say it prevents some cancers, so go figure.
Not that I am a doc...but it sounds like 2-3 times a week seems a good balance. Forget the guilt if you can!

Welcome to our group Figgy, sorry you had to join but glad you found us. My docs tell me a glass of wine a few nights a week are fine as well as a few wilder nights, I found a Australian Mascoto that is good and only 6.5% alcohol.

Saw the plastic surgeon today and it looks like I won't be able to have recon surgery till late summer, maybe around late July or early August, reason being I have to be out of radiation 6 months. He plans to do a reduction and a lift on the left healthy breast and a mastoplexy (where they just lift the skin and straighten the areola) on the right radiated breast. He said that he doesn't want to go into the breast tissue because it could cause problems. :=( So no foobs for me!!! Only smaller boobs. LOL!!

Hi Ladies
I haven't been around much in a couple of weeks because of doctor's appointments, work, and decision making time. Just wanted to send my love to you all and hope that your holiday is lovely
Krissy0 -
Hi Krissy...nice to see you.
Hi Renee...Its too early but good luck with your surgery.
Hi cake...Did you start moving around?
Hi Valerie....I checked that pedometer. It looks very nice. I'm like you before I buy anything on line or in the store I study it. I read people comments. I wasn't really planning to spend that much.
We'll see. I was in Walmart and forgot to look for it.
American Idol fans when you finish watching tonight's elimination, do you think the right one was voted out.
Nicole....I'm really worried about you. Maybe you are on a family vacation or doing something. Please just stop by so we know you are okay.

American Idol -- most of them could go so I'm okay with Didi (Deedee?) leaving. Not sure why they let her sing to see if they would save her - that was a longshot. It was a weird show.

Im not a fan of Didi. I think Tim should have left first.
Most people like Siobhan. I cant stand her.

Hi, guys!
Mimi--I had DIEP only 4 months out from rads...my ps said 6 months is just a good number to make sure things work well, so you should be good. I had no probs on the rad breast.
I'm moving about very well, Sheila, thanks for asking! I lost 15 lbs, too! Tho' it's getting a little harder these days to eat less, but I'm sticking to it because I have to lose like 50 more pounds! Sad.
MIL coming for a visit, so I better get moving. Glad I finally can!

Cake, glad to hear you are getting around. I had implants but I've heard that the flap procedures can really wipe you out. Even with the implants I couldn't keep anything down for days which is how I lost about 15 pounds -- hope your method is healthier!
Seyla, my DH calls her Sha-banshee everytime she screams. Maybe she's the artist's artist and as a non-artist I just don't get it.

seyla888 (Sheila) - Yeah, I didn't like Didi either and was glad to see her GO!!! But I agree with you I think Tim should have probably left before Didi. I think Tim is getting the young girl votes. For the life of me I can't figure out why Katie Stevens keeps ending up in the bottom when she does so much better than Andrew Garcia each week. I absolutely CAN'T stand him!! He urks me, sorry I know this is not the American Idol chat room. LOL!
Cake glad to hear you have lost 15 lbs... It stinks to have to lose 50 more, but I am right there with you I have to lose 40 more. At least that is the goal that I and my Medical Onc have set for me. I pray I reach it. :=) It is gonna be tough, but we can do it over on E-Lab!!
Anyone over here taking the Tamox? How are you doing on it? I'm going on taking it for 2 months and really no side effects except the creaky knee syndrome which I think is one of the worst side effects you could have. I know that if I changed meds though I think my knees might do more than creak because if I'm correct the other meds don't just block the estrogen the stop it from being produced at all. I'm just hoping the Glucosamine Chondritin I'm taking will eventually kick in and start working. Right now I haven't noticed any changes in the creaking and popping of my knees at all. It almost makes me not want to take it or anything for that matter. I recently red an article that said it didn't really help. There are such mixed reviews on Tamoxifen. My Med Onc really believes in it. He said it is just as good as Arimidex and Femara and the pharmaceutical companies are just giving it a bad rap. It makes it hard to know who to believe. All I know is I have my first follow up mamm coming up sometime in April and I'm nervous as all heck about getting it done!!

Renee...you are accomplishing your dream.
There is an AI thread we can meet there ladies and talk all about it.
I go through all kind of emotions when I have to see my oncologist.
Mammogram is little easier for me emotionally.
In 5 days I will be a 5 year survivor. i remember getting the letter on Good Friday from the Breast Center that something suspicious was there. Every year on good Friday still remember it.

Renee, I have been on the tamox for 9 months with no bad SE's, i have occasional leg cramps but it may be connected to low calcium levels that are on the way up, hot flashes haad them prior they are a little more often and stronger, I have arthritis so take glucosime and naprosyn. My Med Onc is very big on tamox too he said it does help with bone strenght, my bone scan was in the good range last month. I see him next week to discuss the newest cancer issue. I was having a lot of sleep issues but since my thyroid surgery no more sleep issues so it may have been connected to that.
Sheila that is great news aout your 5 year survivor status, thanks for the hope.

Hi gang o' mine! Today is my 1st cancerversary. Celebrated with a trip to the radiologist who pronounced me clean, as the onc did a couple weeks ago after my 1st mammo. I have to have a mammo in 6 months on the left side only he said, then 6 months after that both again. I'm all for whatever they want to do so long as they continue to tell me all is well!
