Just wanted to say that today is my one year cancerversary. I had my BMX on St. Patrick's Day 2009. I'm happy to be a one year survivor, and hope to one day be a 30 year survivor!
Thanks to everyone for all the good advice and support I have gotten from this site over the past months. You have helped me more than you could ever know!
Dinner out tonight with my wonderful husband and son to celebrate!

Congrats, Susu!

Thanks, Meece!
Cake, I just started the South Beach diet on Monday. I was on it once before in 2005 and it worked really well...I lost 30+ lbs. My problem was not sticking with the maintenance program (I suck, I know).
But don't start any weight loss program now--wait until you are well healed physically, you need your strength!

Susu! Way to go! Here's a virtual green beer (in my thoughts) toast to your cancerversary! Congratulations on surviving that horrendous 1st year! Joni

Susu - Congrats on your 1 yr anniversary!!! Way to go!!!!!!
seyla888 (sheila) - I'm still here... We leave in the morning going to Bristol. I would love to come back to New York. My daughter and I went on her class trip 5 yrs ago to NY, NY and saw the Empire State Building, we went to Paris Island, the Statue of Liberty, Ground Zero and many other places. It was a blast!!! I have always wanted to return. My favorite part was getting to go to theater, I absolutely loved it. We saw 2 live shows, one was Phantom of the Opera and the other was Jail House Rock. There was just so much to do and see and we only had 5 days.
So ladies tell me... what did you think of idol last night? Who will go home? I am betting on Adrew Garcia or Tim Urban going home tonight. I may be wrong. I'll check back later to see what you all think.

Hello everyone. I'd like to become your Stage 1 sister! I had right mx on 3/5 with SNB and immediate lat flap reconstruction. Doing pretty well and will get one of my 2 drains out tomorrow. I am most excited about that. Will see my oncologist for first time in a few weeks so am anxious to see where I go from there but am happy to be on way to being cancer free.
The support from these boards is amazing and I am so thrilled to have found this invaluable resource.
Here's to many cancerversaries for us all!

Hello, All!
Susu--congratulations on one year....and 30 more to go...for all of us, amen! I tried South Beach...I dont think I'm good on any diet. What I'm going to do and am trying to do now is just to eat 3 small meals and a fruit snack if needed. I need to get off the obsession.
Hiya Meece! How's it goin?! Welcome Cindy!
I definitely feel sick...been in bad all day. I wonder if it's cuz of the drain removal yesterday...maybe I still had too much fluid? It was borderline. Also, I have a spot on my breast that is black and scabby but the doc said it will heal, and he looked at it yesterday. It's oozing a little. I dont know maybe this is just my recovery. I'm on the Feb and March Masectomy posts, so I'll ask the gals there and see what advice they can give.
Other than that...sitting in my chair and waiting for Alton Brown to come on, ha ha!!

Cake, I love to watch Alton, too. I just wish I used a note pad to write some of his advice down. I just get mesmerized by all the info, but forget half of it. HD likes to watch it as well, and he bought me one of those laser temperature readers like Alton uses.

LOL, you are so right, Meece! I actually bought one of those thermometer thingy's too, LOL! I've been watching the cooking channel all day today and man have you noticed that everyone cooks with so much butter, that if we make all those recipes, forget bc, cuz we're gonna croak from a heart attack! (I'm still going to make all those recipes when I'm better tho, LOL!)
Sheila--SO thinking of vacation. I think my stomach will be better by then. It will be so cool, and were not telling the kids until THAT day...it's going to be so much fun. And my stomach is FLAT now, so this is a good improvement!

Susu - Congratulations on being 1 year cancer free! I am hoping to celebrate my 1 year cancer free on March 15, 2011!
Cake - I have a black area on one of my breasts also and my ps said it is just outer later dead skin that will scab off in the next couple of weeks and not to worry about it. It looks gross but I have seen the area get smaller in the last week.
Have a great night!

seyla888 - the statue of liberty is huge! It was under repair when we went and also restricted because of 911. We didn't get to go up inside but is was such an awesome sight to behold from the ferry ride we took over to Ellis Island. If you ever get the chance that is one place you need to go visit. The history there is amazing. So many names of people that came to America seeking refuge on ships hundreds of years ago. Many of them our ancestors. It is quite nostalgic... Harlem and China town are a lot smaller than one would think and Harlem is just like you think it would be, at least what we saw of it. Everything in the city is within walking distance and easily accessible, I loved that the best. You can walk everywhere, if you know where you are going. I hear they have built a lot back around ground zero since we were there which I think is great. I didn't get to, though I really wanted to, but some of our friends rode the subway.
Everyone needs to go to New York if you ever get the chance it is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been.
As for Idol... very surprised that Lacey Brown went home. I didn't think she would win, but didn't think she would be the one going tonight.
This will most likely be my last post till I return from Bristol ladies I'll chat again on Tuesday or Weds. unless... the hotel has a computer then I might get on if I have a minute.

Welcome to the new ladies. I'm sorry that you've had to join us, but you will find an amazing group of women here who will support you in this journey.
Susu - congrats on your cancerversary! I celebrated mine in January and it's so good to have that first year under our belts.
Mimi - have a safe trip and enjoy the race!

Thanks to all for the good wishes! The first year is the hardest, isn't it? I'm feeling more and more like my old self (well, except for the no breasts part, LOL). My energy is way up from where it was after chemo last August, I think the chemo-brain fog is beginning to lift, and my mood is pretty good (usually). Haven't cried in several weeks! A small miracle for me.
When I remember where I was one year ago, it doesn't seem possible that I am here now, working and taking care of my family again. I'm just so happy to be here.
I still need to make a decision regarding reconstruction, but I want to wait awhile longer. At this point there is no hurry, and I want to be as physically fit as I can be before facing more surgery.
Have a great day everyone!

Cindy,
I had BMX in August (after lumpectomy was not successful), implants in January, and just had my nipples and areolas done yesterday (nearing the finishline!). There have been a few setbacks but nothing insurmountable. I have to say, this whole experience has been way less difficult than I imagined, and has given me a new outlook that has helped me improve my life as well as my health. And the outpouring of support and caring has been so amazing. I hope you have a "way less difficult" experience too!

Hi guys! Having a better day today, thank the good Lord! It is a beautiful day outside, but I'm gonna stay in so I dont repeat yesterday. I cleaned counters and wrote thank you letters, and I felt so good that I could do something! This DIEP recon was definitely the right choice for me, but I am not used to doing nothing. It's hard!
Astorm--I am so glad you had a decent recovery and that you're at the finish. Very cool!

Chris and Jolanta-
WELCOME to the boards, ask questions as we know how hard all this is at the beginning to absorb. I found the ladies on these boards had more anwsers for me sometimes than my drs, as well I would always forget a question at my appt and remember it when I got home... used these boards for that, too!
Wishing you the best of luck through these beginning stages, and remember "This time too shall pass!"

I cant believe i found this, I am feeling so hopeless about the chemo decision: i am in a Boston suburb and read the posts of - i cant even remember names right now- 2 or 3 people on clinical trial at Dana Farber, Taxol and Herceptin. I had my lumpectomy at local hospital 2/5/10, i love the oncologist there who is offering TCH. I went to Dana Farber for 2nd opinion and was "offered" the trial, but i don't feel so comfortable with the dr. i guess that once i start, i will be dealing more with nurses and not so much doc, i don't know the differences there. this has totally consumed me for weeks now, i don't have forever to decide, not eating or sleeping, please help!!

Welcome to our new sisters Jolanta and Weezie.
weezie....As you can see I'm also triple Positive, had Lumpectomy
A/C 4 Rounds and Taxol 4 rounds with Herceptin starting with the first Taxol and continued 52 weeks. This is a confusing and scary time. But once you start your treatment you feel much better emotionally.
Do you know what kind of trial and why it was offered to a stage I woman as yourself.
Ask anything you need to know if we have the answer or the experience we share it with you.
Hugs
Sheila
