Just caught up on the last few days on here. OMG, thanks for all the laughs! I have so many snappy comebacks in my repertoire now! Especially liked "This is my friend. She's on the rag." (Or perhaps it was worded a bit differently.)
NativeMainer- Loved your "upsetting my calm" expression! Might have to steal that one!
Re: Prostate Cancer Month- How about "Protect the Peckers"?

Save the salami?
Cure the cock?
Ain't no home run without a bat and a couple of balls....

You are wicked, simply wicked. I love it!

We could combine prostate month with Thanksgiving and the theme could be "save the giblets."
Although I do like save the salamis. Nice ring to it.

You've all given me the best laugh I've had in weeks!

Barbe, NM and Kate - you are better than the three Stooges!!!! Just got home from being thrashed at tennis so I needed a good rofl, thanks.0
-
The "upsetting my calm" line comes from a favorite movie of mine, Serenity. In the movie it's hilarious, but it has a number of other uses as well!0
-
barbe- LOL! I'm voting for "Save the Salami"!!!

so many good choices! though as I recall, the surgery does NOT involve the salamis so we can all breathe a sigh of relief or something............ I think protect the erector set is not a bad option---isn't there an issue with function as the situation progress?
Protect the peckers might be good but as its November mightn't we confuse people into thinking we are promoting saving Turkeys from dinner?
0 -
The "function" is the part of the salami we want to save!! But, not all cases lead to disfunction....
Save the stiffie?
Save the salute?
Save the six-o-clock silly?
0 -
STIFFIE!!!! LOL. thank goodness I finished chewing and swallowed before i read this.
Save the Stiffie is right up there with Save the Ta-Tas. . . .
okay, who is going to design the t-shirt and the logo? And what will the color be? Whats the guyish equal to pepto-pink?

I had an ex who referred to his nether regions as "Johnson and the twins".

Back to the subject of dumbest things…
Just yesterday I was talking to my neighbor who is a headhunter. Told her I was going to be looking for a job as soon as chemo was over. She knows I was laid off this year. She starts telling me that Obama's current health plan is going to be repealed and that even if I land a job an employer can choose not to insure me. Not so sure this is true but why is she telling me this?

In America November is Pancreatic Cancer.Wear Purple. That is one nasty cancer.

I thought November was prostrate month?
0 -
Obviously there are not enough months in the year, not to mention hours in the day.
November is Diabetes Awareness Month, Prematurity Awareness Month, and Alzheimer's Disease Awareness Month.
Other causes celebrated this month include Lung Cancer Awareness Month, National Hospice Month, National Novel Writing Month, National Family Caregivers Month, National Inspirational Role Models Month, National American Indian Heritage Month, National Adoption Month, National Pancreatic Cancer Month and Military Family Appreciation Month.Read more: Point Pleasant (WV) Register - Several causes celebrated in November

lago- i am not sure on the rules regarding coverage and I'd be surprised if the health plan got repealed. but the real point is why say something so pessimistic to you- saying well you might be screwed even if you do get a job.
I got laid off last year as well and have a few more months of COBRA and then...? me or my hubby better find a job with health coverage for me.
I looked online for info on your question - can a new employer deny coverage based on medical history? I found the statement below at : http://www.dol.gov/ebsa/faqs/faq_consumer_hipaa.html
Can a plan deny benefits for chronic illnesses or injuries, like carpal tunnel syndrome, diabetes, heart disease, and cancer using a preexisting condition exclusion?
It depends on whether you received medical advice, care, diagnosis, or treatment within the 6 months prior to enrolling in a new employer's plan. If you did, you can be subject to a preexisting condition exclusion.this makes no sense- is regular follow up considered care? I know this question really belongs on another thread, but you got me wondering now. still your headhunter friend should be more sensitive- there probably are instances where they can deny coverage, mainly if you have a lapse in coverage- my understanding was that if you maintain continous coverage, you couldn't be denied benefits.

3Jays, what a F&^%(ing Moron! Run, do not walk away from those idiots!

Alyad Yes my point was regardless if the law did get repealed or if what she is saying is even true this was a stupid pessimistic thing to say.
BTW our cobra runs out at the end of April. We have already applied for the high risk pool insurance in our state. Expensive but cheaper than no insurance at all. I still have Herceptin, hormone suppression therapy to do and I don't know where I'll be in the reconstruction process by May. If I have to liquidate my 401Kfor this insurance that's what I'll do.
OK back to dumb things or save the chubbies…

Just an FYI: The excerpt below is from
As we observe National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, we stand by the fathers, brothers, husbands, and sons battling prostate cancer, as well as their families and the health care providers, researchers, and advocates who are working to combat this disease and save lives. By joining together to raise awareness of prostate cancer and supporting research, we can continue to make progress against this devastating disease.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim September 2010 as Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. I encourage all citizens, Government agencies, private businesses, nonprofit organizations, and other groups to join in activities that will increase awareness and prevention of prostate cancer.
So I guess we missed it this year.

Maybe they'll dush off Bob Dole for that next September. Remember he was Pfizer's pitchman for ED.

Okay, I am going to formally request that we stop making fun of prostate cancer and the men who have (or fear) it. Let's award a bright, shiny medal to whomever has the largest vocabulary of silly words describing men's genitalia ... and then let's move on. Please.
Here's why.
This silliness all started (IIRC) because some of us were offended by the "Save the Ta-Tas" campaign. I seriously doubt that we can pin the blame for that on men. Remember, it was most likely a woman (or a girl) who created the utterly stupid BC awareness campaigns on Facebook (What color is your bra? Where do you like to set your purse when you walk in the door?). The whole idea of those FB games was to "keep the men guessing" by not disclosing the true meaning of the updates or the purpose of the game.
So, to get even for "Save the Ta-Tas", we're coming up with equally stupid names for Prostate Cancer Awareness? I am wondering if anyone here knows someone who has been diagnosed with prostate cancer ... or, even worse, treated for it. If that person is someone you care about -- a loved one or close friend -- you are aware that a prostate cancer diagnosis is as devastating to a guy as our own breast cancer diagnoses were to us. Men face the same type of "over-diagnosis" dilemma with prostate cancer screening that we face with screening mammography. They are forced to choose among "bad", "worse", and "even worse" treatment options, for tumors with unpredictable aggressiveness. And, they deal with treatment SE's that are as debilitating as anything we experience (even if we would like to claim otherwise).
"Prostate Cancer Awareness Month" is in September of each year, at least here in the U.S. This website discusses the 2009 commemoration: http://www.zerocancer.org/site/PageNavigator/PRO_Prostate_Cancer_Awareness_Month
And, here's Pres. Obama's declaration of Prostate Cancer Awareness Month for 2010: http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2010/08/31/presidential-proclamation-national-prostate-cancer-awareness-month
On behalf of two of my uncles (my mom's younger brothers) who were diagnosed with, and treated for, prostate cancer, and my other male relatives who monitor their PSA test results just as we monitor our mammogram reports, I would love to see the topic of this thread wander back to "dumb things people have said to us."
What I want is for us to be more sensitive and caring than the people whose words we criticize in this thread.
