Sweetandspecial-thanks for the info but I only get one shot at this. I had a breast lift 11 years ago and that changes all my options. The first PS I saw wouldn't even consider reconstruction because of it.  Everything is going smoothly. The fills are only 50cc a week and he says my skin is doing great. I have been using the Bio oil and I assume that's helping.  I feel better this morning but I just hate the emotional side of this crap. I feel I have gotten away pretty easy so far. Nothing has been really bad. I did have the drains in for 4 weeks, bummer. But kept taking the pain pills as needed. I'm sure there'll be drains the next time too.

I think we're all born with a worry gene and there's just no stopping it!

    Thanks all.

    Dear whippetmom,

I went to the PS this week and got more info on my TEs and planned surgery:

    • My surgery date is 1/17. PS has planned implants to be Mentor rounds: either 350-8004BC or 350-7504BC.
    • My current TEs are Mentor CPX 4 with Suture Tabs, medium height, style 9200 550cc (both are expanded to 830cc) 13.5 x 11.7 x 7.1cm
    • I am 5'2" 180 lbs, with a large frame for my BMI
    • Chest measurement (mammary fold area) is 40"
    • We decided against the lat D to avoid additional complications.
    • PS feels that going with the rounds for now, I will have a choice in the future if I want to change to future approved anatomicals or the lat D for more projection. In addition, since I have had the two failed flaps he thinks the rounds are least likely to have complications.
    • Are these the textured rounds or the smooth ones? Is there a reason to choose textured or smooth?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Smaarty:  Reviewed your photo.  I think that you will be wanting implants with around 600 ccs to 650 ccs [prefer the latter] at the time of your exchange.  You will want to have implants with AT LEAST 100 ccs greater volume than the recommended TE volume [in your case, 500 ccs] and so I am pretty sure that is where you will want to be.  Let's see how things look at 500 ccs fill....

We want to endeavor, as much as possible, to make this a "one shot deal" - the exchange to implants.  Revisions might be necessary down the road, but from a SIZING standpoint [skin integrity and other issues permitting] there is no reason it should not be reached properly at the time of exchange.

Whippetmom-Is it always the case to get implants about 100ccs larger then the max TE fill amount?  My TEs are 600ccs, so 700ccs I'm sure that would be too big for me. Can you clarify?  THANKS MUCH!

All is well Smartwarmcookie.  Your PS is using high profile smooth round silicone implants.  750 ccs or 800 ccs sounds good to me.

I've no doubt it's just me.  Who else has been told the skin below the mastectomy incision is too thin or not liking an incision in terms of expansion and implants?

The last PS consult expressed concerns at expanding it although as he talked his way through things he was better about it when realized I don't want to be have large implants.  Overall though he felt it was still a risk comparatively.  He also didn't like one of the incisions, being too wide and too pink from an August surgery.

Just working through some angst.  Thanks for listening!

Good day to all!  Saw my PS this week and he commented on the 'crater' under my left arm and continues to my breast area.  This is left over from my first surgery 15-16 years ago when I was first diagnosed and had an axillary excision for lymph node biopsy.  I did not notice it until I had my TEs filled.  Anyhoo, he does not think he can fill that area to create symmetry.  I am hoping that it is not too noticeable post implants.  Shoot.  To add to this, my  onc confirmed that I have bone mets on my spine and I go back to radiation, stopped Tamoxifen, will start Faslodex injections and maybe IV Zometa later on.  All this lovely news a week before Christmas!!!  Happy Holiday all Winking

    Hi Whippetmom!!

Thank you so much for doing his for all of us..i did just post all of my photos in the reconstruction private gallery under my name Mimi68..I am 45 years old dx with DVIS of left breast multifocal grade 3 Er/ PR-

I had no choice on the left for Mx but did a prophylactic on right. My surgeon likes using Mentor HP silicone which is fine and he says he often gets rippling with a tear drop shape but i am wondering about the new memory gel. Size is my big question, he will overfill, I am at 300 and he told me to simply tell him when u am at where I want to be??? I have a very hard time looking in the mirror at these hard torpedoes and saying "oh yes yes thats what I want!!" He does ay that he tends to use a larger implant than the TE fill volume due to the softer nature of it and how it needs to fill the pocket.

I have Mentor textured moderate height 275 cc TE's. I am 5'6" and have broad "swimmer shoulders" very prominent clavicles. My ribcage measures 31 inches and my torso i think is pretty short, i have long legs. I have a lot of  area between my shoulders and the start of my breasts, so my pre-cancer breasts never looked perky :)

I am active, work out, run and always wore push  up bras in a c-cup to give me more of a curvy profile.

I don't want to feel like i have to "hide" the breasts I get because I went too big, I do like to look sexy and wear a bikini but I am modest and am happily married with three grown kids and have no need to look like a 20 year old. I would liken my look and have been told quite shockingly, I have a jennifer Aniston like body fitness wise..In photos of her, I would like to be a bit bigger as she is clearly more petite inher torso   and shoulders. I like the Athleta model look again, with a bit more fullness. Again, thank you and please let me know if i should have posted this in the wrong manner or if i should have started my own thread under reconstruction. Thank you!!

The ps who's doing my surgery ordered both:

    14T 133MV  and 13T 133 FV

I looked these up online and found a couple drawings.  Nothing really showing what I'll look like though.

Is there any information knowing this and my 13' that would give a clue as to what I"ll look like????

Everyone has told me from his office and the cancer center that they won't be as big or the same, but what will they be?

Dulci - do either of those sound familiar to you ?   Which ones did you get?

    Hi Tessa!

    I had Allergan 133SX 13.

These are the tissue expander numbers. The "13" is just the width needed to fit MY area of tissue removal, so your PS is anticipating your width will be 13 or 14 and that's why he has both sizes available. I do not know anything about the styles of TE's. mine were short height that only expanded the lower pole. That's what my PS thought would work best for MY body shape. Maybe Whippetmom can give you some thoughts on the two you mentioned.

Please remember that how the TE's look on you will change every time you get a fill....and that they can take on all kinds of wonky shapes during the process! So no freaking out!  My left one was noticeably bigger and heading toward my armpit! But the implants will be more comfortable and more "boob shaped."

activern:  I will be praying for you darling!  You sound so strong to me....and you have gone through so much loss through cancer.  I pray God will place a hedge of angels about you....and that you will have a perfect peace for the road ahead.

Tessa:  These are 500 cc TEs.  A good size for you.  You should be able to exchange out to implants with a volume of 600 ccs to 700 ccs....

Activern, please know that I am praying for you.  Seriously.  I can't imagine.

I have colon cancer rampant in my family.  I had a polyp removed about 10 yrs ago. I should've had colonoscopies every year according to the surgeon that took out my gram's colon cancer and my polyp.  My gramps had it, uncles and aunt's had it, everyone.  It really sucks and loss is so hard.

They wanted me to have a colonoscopy while I'm off work due to BMX and cancer treatment.   I thought,  seriously?   How the heck am I going to do that?

I'm so sorry for everything that you've gone through.  I admire your outlook and attitude.  You're a really strong woman.

Be thankful they're watching it so seriously.  Three consecutive generations of colorectal put me into the five year plan for colonoscopy.  Will check with my Onc if should be annually between family history, polyp found over two years ago.  It was the VA said naw, don't need it.  I want that confirmed by my non-VA Onc.

Should have said was on the 10 year plan until family history was fully realized.

So sorry to hear that news Active, I am praying for you.

Tucked my implant cards in my passport and looking at it today found out the cards are for the old implants!  Do we really the cards?

G, my familys been rampant with colon cancer.  I had a polyp removed about 10 yrs ago.  Top notch surgeon took out a third of grams colon and my polyp.  He told me to get them annually.    I've been told to have a colonoscopy even though going through cancer treatment.  :0

So, if I were you, I'd maybe get a second opinion on how often to go.

    Better safe than sorry.

TessaW- Why don't you have the colonoscopy done at the same time as BMX??? One surgery, might even be a benefit for the constipation that happens many times recuperating from BMX. Its a fairly quick procedure. It would also save some $$$ as far as only one surgery and drs can coordinate
