Update: this virus hit both my DH and I hard today. I ended up passed out on the bathroom floor… I am up right now finally hoping to ring in the new year early with NYC on the TV, then back to bed…
Happy New Year everyone!

Teka and everyone, Happy New Year to all of you. Love your cat pic.
Chris, oh my. You just can't catch a break up. I pray both of you will get over this asap!!! I fell asleep late this afternoon after not getting much sleep last night. I was fine before the nap and when I woke up my head was filled with congestion and I have the symptoms of a fresh cold now.
Hershey, how are you and your husband doing? Praying that both of your protocols are working.
Wheatfields, how are you doing? I hope your antibiotic worked for your sinus infection. Here my solution to my insomnia apparently was not an every night thing!
Teka, you might be the only one of us that is well or at least I hope you all and your family are well.
Let's pray that 2025 is a good year for all of us.
Love,
Nancy

Oh my, Chris. Fainting is scary, and I pray that you are okay. I hope you and your family feel better very soon.
Nancy, how are you feeling? I hope you've been able to get some good rest.
Wheatfields, I hope you and your nurse friend are staying warm. I pray that you'll have good flying weather for your trip to-and-from Arizona.
Teka, those are two sweet little images. Happy New Year to you, too!
I have some postnasal drip that bothers me at night in bed. Other than that, my husband and I have pretty much recovered from COVID. This was my first bout with COVID, so I didn't know what to expect. My state's health department is reporting high levels of flu, COVID, AND norovirus. Masking and lots of hand washing will be in order when we venture out this weekend.

Teka, your cute little bird and lady bug have the right idea. Now if I could just do that!!!
Hershey, I am really glad to hear that you and your husband have recovered for the most part from Covid. Yes, I hear lots of nastly stuff is going around the country. A NY email friend told me her son was really, really sick with the norovirus. He is the head of the radiation dept in a hospital and it is never good for him to be absent. She said he was never this sick even from Covid.
My neighbor was over this afternoon to do a couple of projects for me. You know how things in your mind work and then how reality works. It was Murphy's Law in all it's glory and nothing planned worked out. Unfortuantely for me I bought products and materials long ago for my handyman who got stuck in Florida and cannot return them at this point so I ordered more things which hopefully will work. The Mom next door has been pretty sick so when he came over he had on a heavy duty mask for my protection. I should have put one on too but I didn't.
My cold appears to be gone but my intestinal tract has not been good the last few days. My system got goofed up when I was downstate and trying to get things regulated has been a tightrope act. I am thrilled the cold did not morph into anything more serious which it usually does so I count this as a win.
I have had to do quarterly taxes this past year and I was finishing up my last quarter and a couple of times I was about to throw my computer out the window. So it has been a testing of my patience today. But it is now finished and now beginning the new first quarter. I guess it will never end now. 🙄
It is very cold here and I still have to get my garbage cans back in the garage. I can't complain as it could be a foot of snow. We have dodged many bullets this season.
Chris, I hope you and your family are much better now.
Wheatfields, I hope you are better so you can visit your sister soon.
Take care everyone.
Love,
Nancy

Nancy, I hope your tummy feels better. That was all a part of this cold/virus we all had so meals have been toast and rice…
Thank you all for the recovery wishes. I think we have all improved. I am feeling better but my DH is still struggling. The problem is I have my infusion and Faslodex shots tomorrow and he does all the driving, and it is supposed to snow tonight. I pray we can make it into the hospital okay. I can't cancel as it is important to keep the infusion on a regular 90 day cycle. Then I am supposed to have another PT appointment on Tuesday. I don't want to cancel as I cancelled the one I had last week. Arghh!
I have one more week until my son comes for a visit but we are all feeling so bad I think the Christmas decorations will have to stay up until after his visit. We just don't have the energy to take it all down. Since the New Year is starting off with a storm let us hope it calms down to peace.
Take care: Chris

Nancy, thank you for the suggestion about Neil MD nasal rinse, I do use the little salt packets and netti pot but my pharmacist suggested also the nasal rinse and once or twice a day. I do get them 3 or 4 times a year, but have to admit that for a while I'm real faithful and then when I get better I forget about it. I am better now and would like to start like you said religiously doing that every morning! Praying that you too are feeling better.
Chris, praying that your family is mending and feeling better and also that you won't miss any appointments this week. And that the side effects of the shots are very minimal.
Hershey, so glad to hear you and your husband are getting over the virus and feeling better.
Teka, praying for you too and thank you for the cute little images you have posted.
My nurse friend does have some allergies, she does take zyrtec in the evening. I'll suggest this to her. Since I do most of the cooking and then send some with her, I've been reading on a "bladder friendly" diet and have changed our menu around a little bit to see if that helps. No fried things, no onions, pickles, tomatoes or citrus fruits, or coffee or chocolate. It's been bitter cold here with maybe some slight warming the end of the week. I leave next Tuesday to visit my sister, and am trying to pack light. My sister has been able to go walking with the group of ladies from independent living where she used to be, a few nights a week which she loves. I'm so thankful they take the time to stop by and pick her up to walk over to independent and then bring her back.
Praying for each of you!
Love, Wheatfields

Chris, I am glad you are feeling better. I hope you made it for your shot and infusion yesterday. My sister downstate said they now have over 7 in of snow which is a lot for them. We had ice yesterday and my driveway was like a skating rink but no snow. I hope your DH is feeling better. I know you are excited for your son to come. He will enjoy your Christmas decorations. At church on Sunday they still had their decorations up.
Wheatfields, it was an ENT that I saw a few years ago at my pcp's request. This ENT started me out with using the Neil MD rinse morning and evening for maybe six weeks. Now I just do it in the morning. So it really has worked me. I have ear issues but no sinus infections at all since the doing the protocol. I hope you will be feeling good by next Tues. I am so glad to hear your sister has been walking with a group of friends. That is a real answer to pray I believe.
Well speaking of the cold I need to go get gas. I had my neighbor here fixing some things for me so I am glad to get a new doorbell. Such great new features on these things and no it is not a camera one.
I may be a recipient or should be of the new bill that Biden signed yesterday regarding the Social Security Fairness Act. I paid into SS for many, many years with my private lessens and some other summer jobs. I never was able to get full SS because of this WEP that was enacted in the 80's. So maybe I will take Cammie on a cruise with me. LOL
Teka, I hear you!!!! I do feel like a hermit on some winter days but why go out if you don't have to.
Have a great evening everyone.
Love,
Nancy

I wonder how sunshine99 is doing in homecare.
My 1st week in 2025 was scheduling annual bilateral 3D mammogram for June 2nd.
Also, packed away X-mas and New Year's decorations.
January feels like the month to shake off 2024 then stay in the sunshine.
In my prayers one and all.

Nancy, how are you feeling? I hope this virus is settling down and we can all relax a little. My DD is still struggling although the rest of us are feeling a lot better.
My son will be home in time for dinner, so I am cooking a roast in the crockpot in case he arrives late. I am so excited but also sad as I don't have enough energy to clean like I would like. I know he will understand. Teka, my DH has saved packing up the Christmas ornaments for when my son is here to help. I hate that he has to work when he is here. I remember when I visited my mom and dad that my mom had me deep clean the whole house and I wasn't able to just sit and rest with her. I won't do that…
0 -
Teka, you sound motivated. Then it is always nice to relax knowing some of these tasks are done. I am faithfully sitting in front of my lightbox and that makes a world of difference to me with SAD.
Chris, I know you will have a great time with your son. I am sure knowing all the things you are dealing with he won't mind helping do some things for you. I am still having some IBS problems and sometimes that takes a long time to get resolved. Thanks for asking. I hope your DD gets better soon. After church today my Bible Study had a nice luncheon at a Greek Restaurant. We did a white elephant exchange and our leader gave out best attendance for certain years and I won on of those prizes. I had a winning number for another gift and then the white elephant exchange I got a neck warmer which is perfect as I have neck issues. I felt like it was Christmas all over again. I usually eat quite bland so all of the seasonings of the Greek cuisine I am not used to and can't seem to drink enough water. It was a good time and I just got home a little bit ago.
Teka you asked about Carol in hospice. I have not emailed her yet in 2025 but I will be sure to tell her that you asked how she was doing. It is a little difficult knowing the right words to say. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year somehow don't quite seem like the right things to say.
I am going to take a nap. I am exhausted. We had shovelable snow a couple of days this weekend and I am so thankful for my high school neighbor who shoveled for me on Friday and I am not sure who shoveled again today but it looks like someone did. We have not had much snow at all this season but plenty of cold.
Take care everyone. Have a great night. BTW I rented the movie Wicked this weekend and got to see it twice. I wanted to see it at a theater as the big scenes are gorgeous. I still may do that. It is a very long movie and I wanted to have the privilege of stopping the movie to take a bathroom break or a Cammie break.
Wheatfields I hope you feel well enough to leave on Tues to visit your sister.
Hershey, I hope you and your husband are doing well now and feeling back to normal.
Love,
Nancy

This note is not really cancer related so you can skip if you want… and it is not political, but I was born in Los Angeles and grew up in Orange County not far away. I lived for two years attending college in Pasadena so this girl has deep California roots that resonate with the current fires. It feels personal. I just want to say my prayers are going out to those who have lost their homes and businesses, but I was also thinking of those who may be on some sort of treatment like us. The challenges this presents are something only God can overcome. May God have mercy and provide resources for them.
1 -
May God bless them with calm winds!

Nancy, I hope you are feeling better and am thankful your neighbor is handling the snow removal chores. I too am grateful that the Social Security Fairness Act is now law. I worked for many years at a small public college as well as in business and industry. I never applied for my Social Security benefit so am watching how the law shakes out from here.
We are preparing for a chilly weekend. Depending on how this Arctic front positions itself, our temperatures could be zero degrees or just slightly below normal. Either way, I plan to run errands on Friday and work on taxes on Saturday. My husband is hoping for lots of snow so he can use his new toy: a snow blower! :)
Praying for the residents and brave firefighters in California.

Chris, these wild fires are really terrifying and heartbreaking for the thousands who have lost everything. I heard a podcast a couple of days ago and they mentioned a man found with a torch and he was put under citizen's arrest. They were saying on this podcast that as soon as one area would be under control another area would be on fire. I can't even imagine such a thing if that was true. I know the high winds and lack of water made it so much worse. I am sorry for you and all the people who are affected by this tragedy. I hope you are having a good visit with your son.
Teka, are you all in the frigid temps like we are now. When I woke up this morning I have a thermostat in my bedroom and it was 61 degrees. One guy posted a picture of all the snow on his car and he was saying I would rather have this than 90 and high humidity. For me a toss up on that one. Stay inside and stay warm. I finally got my new door bell installed and my neighbor rang it for the first time. Cammie didn't move an inch because it is a new sound. LOL However when someone was at the door she flew upstairs. She will quickly learn that sound I'm sure.
Hershey, I am still dealing with intestinal issues. I am extremely tired and thankful I am retired where I can rest if I want to. It is very cold here. My Zoom Bible study had a luncheon after church on Sunday. I usually rest when I get home from church but we had a good time and I didn't get home until 4 so I think that just wiped me out and I haven't recovered. We had such a good time. We had a White Elephant exchange and I went with one present and came home with three. I got the best attendance for 2023 and won a drawing plus my nice White Elephant gift so it felt like Christmas all over again.
Yes this SS issue I am trying not to get too excited about it but we'll see. I hope for both of us that it turns out well. I am not expecting anything to happen very quickly which of course would affect our taxes we are prepping for now so it may mean a lot of amended returns for millions of people. Friday for us is supposed to be in the 40's for only that day. Stay safe on the roads.
Take care everyone.
Love,
Nancy (no time to proof read…. I got a long telephone call in the midst of typing this and now have to get ready for Bible study)

As I finished Bible Studay tonight the temp is -1 with -16 degree windchill. I may go out tonight as my mailboxes are down the street as something very important was supposed to come today. I will drive down.
Last Thursday I had planned on visiting my dear friend who turned 96. She has dementia and I hadn't seen her in quite a while. She lives in the same house as her daughter and son in law as they have shared this house for many years even before she had dementia. Anyway I went out to the car in my garage and pushed the button to start the car and NOTHING. Only beeping sounds coming from this button.
I was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO grateful this happened in my garage and not stranded some place in the cold. It was an unexpected very long day but I am grateful for a newly installed battery now and the quick response from the towing company. The guy was able to jump start the car and I drove it to the dealer not knowing if it was the battery or something else.
I will try to visit my friend this week when the temps are a little less frigid. She lives in another town.
I hope everyone is doing okay and managing this brutal weather.
Take care everyone.
Love,
Nancy

Good morning. This thread has been quiet lately. Thanks Nancy for waking it up! So glad you weren't stranded in the cold. I am feeling well enough to head out to PT later this morning. I saw my MO yesterday and she is cautiously watching my stats. We fear I may be beginning progression so I appreciate your prayers. I have done better on my latest medicine than expected so I am praising God for what He has given. Like everywhere else, it is cold today but then we are used to it. My DGD won first prize in our county for a PTA Reflections contest with a self-choreographed dance routine on "Accepting Imperfection" and her entry is moving on to state finals. She is only nine! We are so proud of this little girl. I am thankful to be around to support her.
0 -
Chris, I hope your PT is helping. I will definitely be praying about the possibility of progression. Does this mean that you would need to find another drug or increase the one you are on. If I am remembering correctly you had reduced the doseage and was feeling some better. I know you have been here before but it has to be so difficult accepting it all. Congratulations to your DGD. She sounds like a very creative and compassionate person for all of her 9yrs. State finals………………WOW!!!!!!!!!
Teka, how are you doing? I know you get tons of snow besides the cold. We had a dusting of snow today and it is warmer but I am still cold as I sit here with wet hair.
Hershey, I never made it to my mailbox last night and haven't today but I saw a social security piece of mail coming with my Informed Delivery so I am hoping for the best. If you have not applied yet let me warn you about IRMAA. My financial guy never gave me a heads up on this and it was a super shock in managing finances in retirement. If you don't know what that is you can Google it and if you have a financial guy or gal I would definitely run this by them before you apply for SS.
Wheatfields should be in Arizona now. I hope she is enjoying better weather and enjoying visiting her sister.
Have a nice evening dear sisters.
Love,
Nancy

Nancy, thank you for posting the lovely banners. Frigid temperatures certainly drain a car battery's power. I'm so thankful you were at home, the tow truck driver could jump start the car, and the dealership had your battery in stock. I do appreciate the heads-up about IRMAA. We meet with our tax accountant/financial advisor next month, so I will definitely run this subject by him.
Chris, congratulations to your granddaughter! First prize and qualifying for state are major accomplishments. No wonder you are so proud of her. I will be praying for good test results and favorable medical outcomes for you.
This cold snap has been something. We received freezing rain and very little snow (my husband was disappointed that he was unable to use the snowblower). Roadways were mostly fine, but sidewalks, parking lots and driveways were like ice rinks. Only 35 people attended in-person church service on Sunday. The congregation skews older, so it was wise that folks did not venture out and watched online instead.
Be safe and keep warm, lovely ladies!

Hello ladies,
I got back from AZ last night and the cold weather was a shock, well not really I'm familiar with it after all these years. My sister is doing pretty well, she still wants to go back to the apartment and when I would leave to go back over there for supper, she would say what would happen if I went along. It's really a hard situation to handle. I spent most everyday with her from 8:30 to 4:30 including breakfast and lunch, and would come back from 7:00 to 9. She doesn't understand why it's better for her to be in a safe place, not ever alone, and with the friends and activities there rather thank being bored at times in the apartment and sleeping a lot. But we mostly feel if she were to come to the apartment for a short time, as strong willed as she is, she would refuse to return to memory care. My brother in law had an angiogram while I was there and he will have to have 3 by passes, they were unable to put in a stent because of the location of one blockage. I went with my nurse friend today to the doctor, she still has the abdominal pain and has lost weight, she does have an appointment in February with the gastroenterologist. I'm praying that I didn't come home with any kind of bug because one of my sister's friends was coughing constantly while I was there.
Nancy, I am so grateful that you were safely in your garage when the battery wasn't working. Thank you for the lovely banners you have just posted.
Chris, we are continuing in prayer for no progression and good reports. It is a wonderful accomplishment for your little DGD.
Praying for you also, Teka and Hershey!
Love, Wheatfields

Wheatfields, I'm glad you got home safely. I imagine the cold was a rude awakening even though you are used to it. Can you try the art of distraction with your sister? It can come in handy at times when the end result is for the good of the person you are trying to distract. I think that may be easier in person than on the phone but maybe not. They don't understand what is happening to them and that is the heartbreaking part of it all. I am really sorry to hear about your BIL needing bypass surgery. Life seems so difficult and unfair at times and for him this seems like one of those times. Let us know when that will happen so we can pray for him.
I am sorry to hear your friend is still having abdominal pain. Hopefully the gastro will be able to find a solution to this. Many years ago I had lost quite a bit of weight (on purpose) but I started having abdominal pain. I went through a battery of tests and they could not find what was going on. It was the first time as an adult that I drove myself to the ER in the middle of the night it got so bad. Nothing came from that either. I never got a diagnosis and finally it just disappeared. I sure hope that will not happen for your friend unless she could fast forward to the part that it just disappeared!!
Hershey, you will laugh at this. I was so anxious to get to my mailbox and find out what the Social Security letter was. It was my 1099………DUH! Why that had not occurred to me I will never know. LOL Oh well. The wait continues.
How does one lose a pair of gloves????????????? I cannot find mine and have checked pockets etc. I guess I better buy a new pair in this weather.
I was pleased to hear from my auto claims dept. After initially telling me my towing co jump start would fall under my deductible I was quite disappointed. Well, that was not true. They didn't pay all of it but most of it so I was thriled.
Take care everyone. Stay warm.
Love,
Nancy

Nancy,
You're the exception! Most individuals only lose 1 glove.
0 -
I only lost one sock though. I had a brand new pair of black socks. I washed them and when I went to fold the clothes one sock. That has been months and months ago. I wonder when that will turn up.
I think my car starting fiasco may have been when this happened with the gloves. They may be on the floor on the side of the passenger seat. I bought some new ones and with the speed of Amazon I am fine now.
I think my one mind is still intact but others may not be so certain!

Nancy, I lost half a wedding ring a year ago. Yes, only one of the two. We are pretty sure it came off once when I took off my gloves. We have looked everywhere so it is probably in a parking lot or restaurant or something. This was my third ring. The first one I never took off for 13 years and my five year-old son saw the main diamond was missing while sitting at my grandfather's funeral. The second one I lost the main diamond somewhere on a soccer field even t hough I was faithful to get it checked often. For my fourth ring I bought a Swarovski glass ring for considerably less money, but it is not the same. I also went with white gold instead of gold. I have been married for 51 years. My DH says buy what you want—not the romantic type!
0 -
Chris, I have to say that I have NEVER lost a wedding ring…………….UM that is because I have never been married. I know… one of the long lost breeds. That must have been devastating every time you lost one. My gloves probably needed to be replaced anyway and I have a feeling they are in my car. I have a whole collection of winter hat attire and different gloves for photography and they may be mixed up in those. Before the tow truck came I think I probably threw some things in the back seat. Who knows. My garage is so tiny with all my things in it I can't open the back door to actually see what is back there.
I just realized the other day that I have lost a stone out of my favorite ring. I had it redone a few years ago. There are many little stones around a Ceylon sapphire and the way I can run into things etc I am suprised I haven't lost more of them.
If you have been married for 51 yrs there must be just as important things as romance. If he says buy what you want I would definitely do that. I love jewelry and especially rings so I know what I would do❤️
