I haven't posted here in at least a year, but I lurk frequently. I just wanted to come out of "hiding" to thank all the strong, courageous, and compassionate ladies on this board. Even though you don't know it, I'm not sure I could have come this far without the words of wisdom I read here every day. This board has been my lifeline ever since my diagnosis.  I never cease to be inspired here.  When I think of the things I'm thankful for this year, you are all on my list! Wishing you all a wonderful Thanksgiving!!!

Wishing all of you ladies and Wonderful Thankgiving..

Leanna, I hope you are feeling better today. My port area was a bit more sore day 3 after placement, then the soreness subsided from there on.

Thank you Lory....I woke up today to it being very sore.  I am really dreading my first chemo Tuesday... surely this port won't STILL be sore by then.  I have the lidocaine cream already so you can best bet I"m gonna use it.  LOL

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.  This is the first year we've not really had Thanksgiving.  My grandmother is in FL visiting my uncle. My mom and dad are recently divorced so that is out of the question. lol   I was out of it yesterday due to the port placement and not up to cooking a big meal today so we are just basically skipping it this year. :(    (I think I do have a friend bringing us a leftover plate later tonight)   Really sucks.  :(

Leanna, I know how you feel about Thanksgiving. All 4 of our children are military and so spread out. Along with family being either east coast or west coast.. :( makes for a quiet Thaksgiving. I did buy a turkey breast and the trimmings.. so we (DH is helping) are cooking a small meal just for us..

I am so thankful that I am here to celebrate life, giving thanks for my children and family even though they are far away..

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!  I also hope everyone outside the US has a wonderful day!  I'm kicking back with the cats today following yesterday's chemo but tonight will be at my sister's house. I'm trying to avoid taking a pain pill but will probably give in before I head over there. This chemo causes muscles aches and a flu like feeling but my counts were good yesterday- I'm even gaining on the slight anemia which had made me easily fatigued.

Leanna, The meditation that PaintingMyWay mentions a couple pages back is great and is available on the website as a free download. I've taken advantage of the cancer center services which include a free social worker at the hospital who has introduced me to those guided imagery mediations.  She has helped me learn to use a lot of distraction techniques ( I had to remember how well they worked for me during 8th grade algebra Smile) during chemo.  I usually have my iphone but sometimes my sister brings her ipad and I do artwork on there during chemo.  I try to talk to other people if they look like want a conversation - chemo before last I was able to talk with a newly diagnosed BC patient who hadn't had surgery so I hope I was helpful to her. She had some questions for me about the surgery and my decisions, etc. I still have my port. I used to get it numbed each time but the last couple times I just take a deep breath when they access it.  It took me a long time to get used to being a patient and having my body prodded - I think that was one of the hardest things for me.  I felt sometimes as if aliens had abducted me and were poking and prodding me. But I'm still here almost a year later so I am incredibly thankful for that.

Hi ladies...quick question.  Have any of you had your periods return long after chemo ended?  I'm 47 and finished chemo in Feb. of 2010 (almost two years ago).  I was 45 at the time and I had my last period during my second of four rounds of TC.  Anyway, when I had my physical this past October, my GP told me I was in menopause and to call her right away if I have any bleeding.  Today I noticed some spotting and I've been feeling a bit crampy like when I used to get my periods.  I called my GP right away like she recommended and she wants me to have a pelvic ultrasound so I'm going next Tuesday for that.  I recall my onc saying my periods could return but wanted to get feedback from you gals.

Sugar - Yes, that happened to me as well,(chemopause at 43) after two years of no periods, I had 3 years with about 3 periods a year. Was so glad when I went a whole year without one! I had US and biopsy when they returned - all was well. I also had a US when I had some light pink spotting after they had stopped. After all the warnings off call right away, if that happens, my GYN, told me not to be concerned if it's just light.

OBXK I believe you were the one who posted !he JUST PUT THE F***'N TURKEY IN THE OVEN and I wanted you to know my DDinlaw and I roared. Thanks for the laugh and the lesson in a common sense approach to roasting a turkey. It's so simple and after all these years I finally know the answer. LOL

Well Heidi don't you look radiant, Enjoy tomorrow's ride and much joy. What are you going to do for Christmas now that you've done all these things.

Angelisa I hope you had a marvelous day as well and something good happened that made you happy.

God Bless you all and keep you safe and warm as winter sets in on us. Sweet dreams

jazz- we like to hunker down at Christmas with our boys, having a delicious meal and maybe watching a movie or going out to a local park with the dogs. Nothing better than a day spent with my boys! Sure beats two years ago, when it was filled with fear and sadness that our time together might be limited.

    F*ck cancer....

I hope EVERYONE had a wonderful Thanksgiving!  We ate too much, didn't walk enough, and enjoyed the lovely weather Laughing.  In fact, we are going to be bbq-ing today since it will be 60.  I will be noshing on a delightful piece of grouper, and the carnivores will be eating burgers and dogs.

Heidi - It sounds like your children really pulled it off - yay!  And what a lovely picture.

Time to start gearing up for Christmas, lol!  We will be taking a "vacation" this year, so at least decorations, cooking, wrapping, etc. will be limited.  Just need to get my stamina up!

Suze - glad to hear you're gearing up for a holiday.  Where are you heading? ...somewhere warm?? You deserve it.

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. Took my daughter and her friend to the mall last night and it was packed.  Looks like most Canadian stores are cashing in on Black Friday special sales.

My condolences go out to Tysmom's family.  It truly sadden me that she lost her battle to this terrible unforgiving disease.   It just makes me live more in the moment and cherish all my time with my family and friends.    TNBC and breast cancer overall simply SUX!!!!

    Denise - Amen to SUX.

Heidi it sure sounds like our Christmas. I think I spent so many traditional Christmas's with uptight-everything must be exactly right or else family, the greatest joy I have is to visit and enjoy my kids. We love to watch DVD's and discuss what we really thought of it and playing XBOX or Playstation, albeit, I try to keep up with the joy stick and they laugh. Thank God for Kinect. I can almost hold my own. It makes me happy to hear you're on the other side of the storm and a few rainbows are coming your way. You go girl. Everyday is certainly a gift. And yes I changed the Avatar. Just in case you were wondering.lol

Sugar I hope your spotting has subsided and your feeling better with less stress. It's the little things that happen outside the norm that seem frightening sometimes. Always a relief to hear the Doc say - Your okay.

Titan I started chemo and can't see now. I'd say nice to your neww avatar but all I see are two figures and it's all over for me. You have a great week. God Bless girl.

Christina sounds like she's sharing her experiences with those who need it and you can't beat that in this forum or at the Onc's. I started out here when I first found out and when I got to the Chemo area was blown away at the amount of peeps who were there with me. All of us looking at each other like what's up with all of this. The nurses are sweethearts though so they make it easier.

One nuse was asking about this forum when I shared the info you've shared with me. She said she didn't know a lot of these things happened with chemo treatments and was interested in finding out more. Good for her. Oh did I mean that? She may be new and might be my next chemo nurse. Uh Ohhhhh. LOL

Have  a wonderful evening and God Bless all ya all.

    Hi ladies,

Sugar, let us know how things go and what they say about that. I too stopped after I started chemo. It's been over a year now off chemo, and I wonder if my period is ever going to come back. I'm 43, so it could. Curious to hear what your dr. says about it.  Hope you're feeling better :)

I was up in Canada all week. My sister in law took pity on the yankee and made me a turkey dinner. I have to admit that it so nice not too cook this year and so thankful for my health.

    Have a great week sisters!

No period here - regular as a clock before chemo in Feb 11. Overdue for visit to gyn - it's been 2-3 years so I really need to go- when I do I am going to see if they can test my hormone levels.

Sherri..I had a blood test to see if the chemo put me into menopause...and I was..I was 49 when diagnosed and on the bubble..so to speak....he had told me that menopause was probably inevitable because of my advanced age (ha ha)...my DH wanted to know too because..well you guys know why........my onc..was like..so you want to know if you can have unprotected sex??? I was so embarassed....here we are dealing with a life threatening disease and talking about sex instead..funny stuff.

Christina..are you talking about the blood test to see if you are through menopause..or another type of test?  I'm just curious.

I seriously think I'm drying up...my skin is dry, my hair is dry...there was never any suggestion of any type of progesterine for me with having breast cancer..but I'm wondering...if we are hormone negative..wouldn't a little bit help us out?   abd would it really hurt us?  I hate the thought of wrinkles before my time.

Our town (pop 800) has Rivertown Christmas this weekend, and as I live downtown, I feel obliged to decorate and put up my tree this week. Last year, I had just been diagnosed, so when I put things away, I put notes in the boxes, concerning what goes where, the stories of my old ornaments, and which kid, made what. I guess I didn't think I'd be here this year.

Happy to report good 6 month labs. I see my onco tomorrow for a regular follow-up. I have a little bump, looks like a flea bite, about an inch from my scar. It's been there for two weeks. Need to be told - no you do not have skin mets! Then I will put cancer behind me for the holidays!!!

Wishing everyone a great week ahead.
