Happy Anniversary, Cocker and Husband! And many, many More

Julie, my stats are similar to yours and my Onc and the RO told me the risks of radiation outweighed the benefits in my case.
Cocker, Happy Anniversary!!!

Congrats and happy day Cocker!
Luvmydobies, i think the difference is that I have TN IBC (unless your signature line just doesn't show that - yours says IDC?) which really requires rads. I hate it and do envy people with more options. I have never had any of my doctors say anything other than "this is absolutely the protocol and is required." So, count your blessings if you can

Thank you ladies so much and Mike as well. So glad you got the cheaper option Mike but some silver jewellery is expensive too so you better watch out for what she asks for. One year for Christmas my old feller asked me what I would like. I said I would like the latest jug (not sure what you call it - kettle) and the matching four piece toaster. They are black and silver and look so smart in the kitchen. Well he was aghast at first cause he didn't class this as a present but no that is what I wanted. Well I must tell you that my old feller is not very tidy in the kitchen and is the bane of my life for mess in my beautiful kitchen so I put my new jug and new toaster in place and wouldn't let him use them because I didn't want the toaster to get in the same state as the older one he uses each morning. Sometimes he gets the plastic wrap that covers the bread too near the toaster and it melts onto the top of it !!!!. That was three years ago now and my grandchildren laugh so much that I won't let the old feller use them. They are still as good as new and look beautiful in my lovely kitchen.

Happiest anniversary to you and husband, Cocker!! Love that he sends you red roses every year!
Regarding node negative and no rads, I exhausted this with my doctors and had many opinions. I was node negative and had a PCR and was also told by everyone no rads, which is the route I took.

My wife was node negative and no rads as well.

Thank you everyone for input on rads! I do not know what my MOs hang up is on the possibility of rads. I suppose I will know more when I meet with the RO towards the end of my treatment! At least now I know the standard of care seems to follow the NCCN guidelines and I shouldn't need rads!

Julie - I just realized your tumor size. I believe the guidelines are anything over 4 or 5 cm (I can't remember which) calls for rads. So maybe that's why she's recommending it.

I was node negative but had radiation - i guess technically i did have one intramammary node positive but they considered that a grey area since it specifically focuses on auxiliary nodes. They said they would support what I wanted to do and I was so scared I did it - i did it all. I really try not to think about it bc I'll go crazy. I made the decision based on information i had and how i felt at that time.

My wife was also node negative and had no radiation.
In the UK the current NHS guidelines are radiation for tumors 5cm and over, positive lymph nodes and following lumpx, but not MX

The original plan for my wife was lumpectomy, chemo and rads. What changed it was the BRCA2 status. At that point the plan changed to mastectomy and no rads. So what the timeline for her was was Dx, then Lx, Started chemo, found out about brca2, finished chemo, then bilateral mastectomy, then prophylactic oophorectomy.

happy anniversary Cocker!!
had my surgery (2nd lumpectomy and more nodes) Wednesday and doing pretty well. Was so bored today at home that I went to work, drain and all. Dr said the surgery went well, they took out an additional half inch of tissue as well as 10 more lymph nodes. Positive thoughts that everything comes back clear! The drain should be in about a week he said. Anyone know if they would take it out early if there isn't a lot of fluid draining in a few more days?

Thank you ladies and Mike for the birthday and anniversary wishes. It was a great day.
StefLove so glad all went well with your surgery. I think they do take the drains out earlier if nothing is draining so you may be lucky there.
Ally here in NZ even if you have one node positive you get rads. I must admit I was glad to have it as one of my four nodes was encapsulated which means the cancer was coming out of it. So I am glad they took all of mine. The only trouble is it left me with lymphoedema in the left arm. Probably partly my fault as well because I carry heavy things (or used to) with that arm and so probably caused it myself. Never mind its too late now.
Have a good weekend everyone. Love and hugs to you all.

Happy to read through all the messages..
While everybody around is in the Halloween Mode, I get a suspicious lump in my affected breast 2 years after diagnosis. Looked spiky and surely has come up fresh since the reports of june were all clear.
Mri is scheduled this Thursday.
I am getting a strange feeling...have just come out of one and now another...This looks like a new primary if its really cancer.
i remember simple to have gone through one such episode which turned out to be fat necrosis .. anybody else who has dealt with this.
My nodes were clear..i wonder why was i radiated then... Probably its a by product of radiation..whatever it is.
Fingers crossed till Thursday...dont want to deal with this again.

Hi Everyone,
I've been on a two-month long road trip with lots of camping and a cruise to Alaska thrown in right in the middle of it (a vacation from my vacation). The trip was amazing and I was able to cross many things off my bucket list (Old Faithful, Mt. Rushmore, Yosemite, Canyonlands, Arches, Alaska). We went to about 15 different national parks along the way. I didn't have access to internet most of the time while I was gone so I didn't even try to stay caught up with this thread. I've just spent the last half hour catching up.
Congratulations to all those that have passed major milestones...three and five years. That is awesome.
Ban, you are right, I did have to get a biopsy...twice. One lump was determined to be fat necrosis and the other one was plain old scar tissue. I hope you get similar results.
I passed my two year mark while on vacation and have my next checkup with my BS and MO in about two weeks. I feel grateful to be able to report that I have no significant issues that I need to see either doctor about so I'm hoping the checkups will go smoothly and I won't have to go back for six more months. TNBC is never far from my mind, but the vacation did help a lot in terms of keeping me busy and thinking of other things.
Wishing everyone the best.

Welcome back Simple! Glad you had fun!
Jenjen, congrats!!!
BanR. I'm praying for you and will be in your pocket Thursday! (((((HUGS)))))!! So sorry you're dealing with the worry!

BanR - so sorry you're going through this! I've also had some new lumps and went through additional core biopsies and a surgery to remove one post mastectomy. Everything was fat necrosis and benign. Also wanted to mention those who have lumpectomy usually always get rads regardless of node status. Thinking of you and hoping you get the all clear soon. xo

Jenjen - huge congrats on 3 years!!!

BanR, thinking of you and sending vibes for fat necrosis and scar tissue, only!
