Ladies in their 30s

Hi ladies, I am looking for some advice. I am 31 and recently diagnosed with IDC 1.3 cm (50% DCIS) with 95% hormone positive ER and PR both. I am HER2 neg and my nodes were negative also. The doctor said it is stage 1a. I had a bilateral mastectomy about 3 weeks ago and my oncotype score is 16. I am married without children, but we would love a family one day. I plan on taking tamoxifen but not sure about chemo. Any suggestions? Thank you

Sandy,
No one can tell you what's right. It really sucks.
I was stage 1a with no nodes too. I had bilaterals followed by 8 cycles of chemo. My mind was made up so I never had the onco test.
For me, the uncertainty is what made the chemo decision, plus I was grade 3. Grade 3 means is growing like crazy.
What grade are you?0 -
You have to make that choice.. but you need to ask yourself. Would I have any regrets if I did or didn't do chemo?
For me. Mine went into the node, as well as a severe family history, plus my BRCA1 status. I didn't want to have any regrets that we didn't do all I could. I was also Grade 3. I wanted to kick cancer where it hurts.

Sandy,
I am in a similar situation as you. I'm currently doing fertility preservations treatments before starting chemo. I had a grade 3 tumor and my oncotype score was much higher than yours but I know how scary this decision making process can be because I'm going through it all too. If you need someone to talk with, please feel free to PM me.

Does anyone get chemo flashbacks? Is that a thing? I went through the hard stuff last fall and the AC made me soooo sick. Today in Pennsylvania it is nice and brisk and feels more like fall than summer. Normally I would love this, but it reminds me of being sick. I feel queezy this morning and smells are getting to me, it reminds me of when I was weak and bald and all I can do is cry. I think I'm going to take an ativan and go back to bed...

I would class that as something called retracing. Your body is remembering something and it can come out in our emotions, through scents, sighs, sounds ect. It's perfectly normal to happen. Its your body's way of processing things. (((hugs)))

Hi Ladies, I just turn 39 this month. I have 2 kids 11 and 8. Diagnosed last month...SINCE then my normal life never be the same. I have chemo first and surgery later. I had my first chemo on July 17. Very scary down the road ... don't know what to expect.
Hi Honeybunney, nice to see you here too.0 -
Wow, this thread is much busier now than when I was diagnosed a little over a year ago! I'm sorry there are so many young women being diagnosed.
Welcome to those who are newly diagnosed and just trying to get things sorted out. The beginning was the worst part for me. The anxiety of waiting for test results, the fear of how treatments and surgeries would go... ugh.
There is light at the end of the tunnel. I'm all done with treatments other than taking tamoxifen for the next several year. I did not have immediate reconstructive surgery; I am doing that next week!
I hope you ladies find the same emotional support on these boards that I did. I honestly don't know how I would have gotten through treatment without the amazing people here!

Hey ladies, I go in for a bone scan on monday and I have to admit that I'm nervous. Not about the test itself, I've heard they are simple, but of the results. It's been a year since my diagnosis , and I'm just so sick of it all. The tests, the worry, etc. I go on for herceptin tomorrow, and I'm getting to the point where I can't stand the sight of the place...

Bethcon1, I am praying for good results. (((Hugsn
I req my onc for pet scan too, still waiting for my insurance to approve n I am scared for the results too, even though my onco said not to worry about it, but who knows.0 -
Yeah, they like to tell us not to worry, but easier said than done!

Honeybunny - I did AC every other week for 4 rounds. My Taxol will be every week for 12 rounds. Good luck with your last two rounds of AC - light at the end of the tunnel right?!

rachel.. here's hoping! My taxol will be the same as yours too. We are only day's apart on our chemo start dates. I started on the 12th of July. How are you feeling? you should have 2 rounds of AC left, no?

Rachel-- we got dx same day. Just started taxol. It's no nausea!!!! Is anyone working through this???

Anyone here triple positive and in stage 3?.....I'm on 5th treatment of chemo but trying to shrink tumor first before surgery! Need hope....I'm 32 with 5 kids.....this is a long scary road and wish.I caught this sooner

Goutlaw- I was also 32 when I was diagnosed. I'm triple positive, stage 3. July it was one year since my diagnosis. I had a unilateral mastectomy, 4 rounds AC and 12 taxol. I will still get herceptin until October and I take tamoxifen. It is a long road, but you can't let that fear take over. Its hard, and you will have your bad days, hell I've had bad weeks, but you'll get through it. You can't beat yourself up about not finding it sooner. Her2+ is usually fast growing. My main tumor was grade 3, so I made myself stop being upset that I didn't catch it sooner, there was no point to it. Much luck to you, take care of yourself and know that it does get better. You're at the hardest part right now.

Alibeths and Honeybunny - I just started Taxol on Monday. I'm doing 12 weekly rounds. So far I can say it's so much easier than AC! I'm only two days post-infusion but so far so good. Praying it stays this way. How are you guys doing?
Goutlaw - try to keep your head up and stay positive. You will get through it and it will get better! Hugs to you!0 -
rachel.. here is hoping it's easier than the AC because if it's not.. well.. will cross that bridge when I come to it. I have one more round of AC left which is on Aug 23. Then will begin my 12 Taxol. Not sure start date yet. But well.. like I said. here's hoping for an easier go around.

Did u have your 3 year old while on treatment?

It's been awhile since I've logged in, but next week makes 2 years since I was first diagnosed and of course my mind is wandering....those dreaded "what if's"...they don't go away, but they are few and far in between! So far everything is going great! Tumor markers are holding stable and tamoxifen is doable.
I see some new faces on the boards, and several "old" friends To each of you just starting on your journey, please know that there is light at the end of the tunnel. One day, this to will be in the past.
xoxoxo

Hi Alibeth,
I was on taxol for six months and had to stop last May. My hair is back and a lot thicker than the first time I had chemo 5 years ago. So from my understanding, now my experience, it comes back! Yay!!! I hope your tingling is minimal, and you don't have any probs w/ taxol. Oddly, I felt pretty good on it.
Hugs,
Christine
Hi Christel80,
Sadly, I welcome you, but I hope you find hope and strength here from all of us.
