happy birthday Beth. I also posted earlier about the following but also wanted to let you know that my mom has been Stage IV for over 12.5 years and still doing well. There are so many treatments now and many more coming down the pipeline. I hope that you will make it not only to 40 but live for many decades.

    hello,

I'm new to all of this, I was diagnosed on sept 30 with ILC. I'm 35 married but no kids. I'm in diagnostic phase and its driving me crazy. I had mamo ultra soud and biopsie. I did the MRI on wed met with the surgeon the same day. I know for Shute I will have a mastectomy of my right breast but not shure of the other one. Now they called me this morning to tell me I might have something in my left b. and that the MRI might have picked up something in my chest so I have to have a ct or X-ray of my chest !im freaking out :(

    Brioche78,

I am so sorry that you had to join this group, but welcome. I had something in both breasts as well. Two tumors (IDC and ILC) on the right side, and DCIS on the left side. When I initially had my tests, a lesion was picked up in my liver. It turned out to be benign; apparently 50% of the population has such cysts. So, MRIs and other imaging methods pick up all sorts of things that have nothing to do with cancer. So, please do not worry. I know this is the hardest time before you have all the information and before you have your treatment plan in place. You will feel so much better once you have your treatment plan in place. I promise.

Hi, i did preventive mastectomy on left one while i only hade cancer in right one.i did not regret it even 1 second.somewhere in process my surgeon admitted that breasts are like twin sisters,so she thought it was a smart choice.specially because dense breast tissue in young people dosnt let them to find cancer easily.I had a MRI which didnot catch my stage 2.Please do lots of researches, and try to see whats gonna work for you the best.if you are not good in"wait and see game" and you dont want to risk any thing, bilateral is the better choice.but if you can handle more pressure and check often and deal with possible surprises then you do not really need to get rid of them both.wish you the best.

    Hi, ladies!

I am 36 with a 12 year old, 16 month old, and 6 month old...oops! I call my little two my second wave:)

I just had a dbl MX with DIEP reconstruction on 9/25/13. This is my second round with BC and I went for the gold this time!

The physical part of this is certainly hard but the hardest for me is the emotional/intellectual part in relation to my babies and my career. I have been trying to find other women with small children that are going through this. I have gotten some extraordinary pearls of wisdom from some of the older ladies, but, I really need to find some women who are walking in my shoes too.

I haven't read through all the posts here yet but will try. In the meantime, thank you for letting me join in!

TCH - taxotere (chemical name: docetaxel), carboplatin (brand name: Paraplatin), herceptin (chemical name: trastuzumab).

You can find this term and a ton of other acronyms on our Discussion Board Abbreviation Key.

    We hope this helps!

Just popping in. Soriya, congrats on having five out of six behind you! I remember almost skipping into the cancer center for my #6 TCH because I was so happy to be done with it. Although, I did not truly feel "done" until my year of Herceptin was up. But Herceptin by itself was cake compared to TCH!

YoungTurk, your mother's story is inspiring - 12 years + at stage IV! Amazing! I too have a mother with bc; she was diagnosed at stage 2b in her 40s; I was diagnosed at stage 2a at age 32. We are also negative for BRCA but I have no doubt there is something genetic going on in our family. My mother's younger sister was also diagnosed in her mid-40s. There is so much to learn yet about bc.

brioche, do not fear the worst. MRIs are notorious for false positives. And there are all sorts of odd things, cysts and whatnot, in our body that all of this imaging will pick up. I hope that the CT or x-ray shows that it's just a boring nothing floating around.

    Hi NYTX,

I have very similar issues with my career and my children after BC. I have a very high-paced extremely demanding job, and I am still trying to care about it (I cared a lot about it before diagnosis, but after diagnosis, I am trying to find meaning in it). Meanwhile, my children have suffered tremendously throughout the entire ordeal. Also, emotionally and psychologically, I am still a wreck. I know there is so much to be grateful, but somehow, the fear of recurrence does not leave me. (I had an extremely high Oncotype DX score, and of course, being a caregiver to my mom with her cancer for the past 20 years (12 years of which have been Stage IV) have all taken an enormous psychological toll). I hope I am not offending anyone on this thread by sharing these fears and psychological issues I am experiencing.

    Hi Christina,

    Nice to meet you!

Hello to all who have joined this thread. Sorry we have to be here but glad we have each other to chat with. I've read through all the recent posts. I agree that being young, with young children really brings different challenges to this disease. I've done my best to stay upbeat and smiling for my kids...then I crash from exhaustion at night, lol!

I'm nearing the end of my chemo! I'm on ACT so I'm almost done with the Taxol part now (had the AC over the summer). I have 3 infusions left and then onto radiation. I cannot wait to be done with all of it!

I hope everyone is finding some happiness and peace this week. Take care all and stay positive!

    hello again,

Do you get the stage of cancer only after the mastectomy or are my dr not telling me everything ?

    Brioche,

You can get an initial indication of staging prior to the mastectomy. However, they cannot truly stage you until after surgery and the preparation of the pathology report. For instance, I had an initial indication that I had two tumors, one of which initially appeared to be approximately 3 cm. After mastectomy, I had two tumors, one 1.6 cm and the other 2.3 cm. The mammo, sono and MRI did not show nodal involvement prior to surgery, although the MRI did show a liver lesion. PET did not show any metastasis, and the liver lesion was not metabolic (i.e., it did not light up - an indication it was not cancer). So, I was staged at IIa prior to mastectomy, and for me, the staging did not change after mastectomy as all the preliminary findings were largely confirmed. However, I have to say I figured out the staging myself due to my unfortunate vast experience in BC with my mother's illness. Nobody really said anything about staging to me. So, I don't think anyone's withholding information from you. Sometimes doctors just assume the patients know things.

Brioche, Since you had surgery your MO or BS should be able to tell you your stage. I dont kno how long it take to have pathology report after surgery. Hopefully ladies here will have answer for me. Iha ve chemo first so my stage right now is just based on my first biopsy n MRI which is stage II. i am not done with chemo yet. Once my chemo over i will have surgery that when i will find out my real stage.

your Ex did not deserve you for sure.give yourself a bit of time,to be able to handle a new relationship emotionally .dont rush yourself and wait for the right person.right now you are the most important person and you dont have time to deal with stupidity because you need that energy to get back to normal life.

My close friend with satage III will get marry this spring, she found love , and she is a happy survivor! i wish you luck in love!

Hi everyone. I'm 34 and recently diagnosed. Also recently married (5 months ago) with a new job. So basically, my life has been turned upside down by the diagnosis!Thankfully I have a very supportive husband and my job has been understanding. I'm on chemotherapy (TC) now, with the plan for surgery after chemo is done. Just wanted to reach out to connect with other young women dealing with this.
