    Happy New Year all.

145.6 down just a tad from last week.  Still, considering the time of year I suppose that's pretty good.

I'm loving seeing everyone's goals for the first quarter of 2014. And Dulci, I like that your goal is not just a number of pounds, but also a focus on healthy eating!

I weighed in at 119 lbs, which is 1.2 over last Tuesday, but I'm just fine with that after Christmas and New Year's Eve and several weeks in a row of losses. I'm still just under my goal weight and twenty lbs under my weight at the start of 2013.

Happy New Year, Ladies! I am blessed and encouraged by you all! Nerdy

hi ladies and Happy New Year!  Love the idea of a personal goal for 2014.  ThumbsUp

Mine is to be out of the 70's and into the 60's by 31 March which means approx 10 lbs.

I will once again avoid chocolate, cheese, sugar and wheat.  No Ruth I won't starve LOL.

Uh, Badger, you didn't really mean to include chocolate in that list of things to avoid did you? That was a typo, right?

My eating plan for 2014 is to continue eating lots of fish, beans, nuts, fruits, veggies and, yes, a little dark chocolate, while limiting meat, eggs, dairy, sugar and wheat. And I'll keep tracking those WW points and weighing in once a month.

Ruth has me convinced that the dark chocolate is necessary to keep my blood pressure low. Happy

Chocolate is proven good for your heart (not to mention your soul), but I believe it is addictive.  I somehow do well with Lindt chocolate.  I can eat a small amount a few times a week yet not overeat and still lose weight.  But if you brought me a big box of Fannie Mae I'd eat way too much and be fat.  Unfortunately in my experience chocolate does not prevent breast cancer.  Too bad.  If it did I wouldn't be in this mess!

My weigh-in this morning was not favorable and reminded me to get back to no dairy.  I had cream of broccoli soup last night and not only did it made me gain weight even though I ate few calories all day but it also gave me a horrendous headache.  The diet I do well on is mostly paleo and if I do cheat with grain, only small amounts and certain kinds of grain.  I hope it'll be easier to maintain that now that the holidays are over.  A continuing challenge I have is my teenage son has been told to gain weight, so I have to offer him food I wouldn't/shouldn't eat, and we all know how that goes.

I was 131 this morning, which is .5 lower than last week. 6 lbs to my goal. I'm going to work on getting more exercise.

AnnieLane, Great idea about the personal goals. Thanks to everyone's encouragement on this wonderful thread, I am down overall 20 pounds from the height of my chemo weight and back to the 5-10 that I had been trying to lose before this whole "breast cancer experience" started. Yay for that but I am still feeling chubby.

It took ten months post chemo to lose those 20 pounds, a lot of it was initially from all of the steroids, and the last "ten before Christmas" was pure hard work, low carbs (yikes, I am italian), and more exercise, mostly yoga and walking, and my strider.

SO, with that rate, I will set my goal to five pounds by March 31st and then I wont disappoint myself, if I can lose more I will be happy!!

Thanks for all of the help and Happy New Year!!

TwoHobbies, yep, I'm with you on the Lindt chocolate, that and Ghiradelli or Godiva, 72% cacao or darker. When it's that dark, it's too intense to gobble mindlessly. You have to eat it slowly and savor it, preferably with good hot coffee by day or a good red wine by night.  Badger, sorry if this is already tempting you to break your avoiding chocolate resolution. I can respect other people's opinions about chocolate. I'm tolerant like that. Winking

Gotta have the chocolate (for medicinal purposes, of course). I need to eat more fruits & veggies, less processed foods, second helpings & snacks...all the usual things. Probably should not consume entire platters of crackers & cheese (as I did last night.....does it help that the crackers were multi-grain?).

AnnieLane, yes I meant to include chocolate in the list.  Too much stuffs me up and gives me a croup-like cough.  I can have a little bit but once I start it's hard to stop so I just need to say no.  It's not as big a sacrifice as you might think.

Badger, that's just sad. Sounds like you have an allergy to the stuff. I'm sure I could live without it too if it did that to me.

Yep, I am allergic to chocolate.  Sad  I can have white chocolate but it's just not the same.....

Here's one of life's little mysteries - I weighed a half-pound less at my onco's office Friday afternoon, fully clothed and after lunch, than I did at my house Friday morning, NAB (naked after bathroom).  Winking

Badger, it is weird how our weight can fluctuate so much from day to day, hour to hour and scale to scale. That's why I think we shouldn't sweat the little ups and downs.

That's true Annie and especially when using two different scales at two different times of day.  I was at the Drs. office the other day and weighed myself.  When I came home I weighed again and my scales are in sync with theirs.

I weighed myself on two scales the other day one after the other and I was 4 Kilos heavier on the new scale. DD was 2 Kilos heavier. I am sticking to the old scale because I don't want to have to lose 4 kilos more. The old scale is also more in line with my doctor's scale.

I'm thinking about going back to my old scale too.  I bought this weight watchers scale this year because it was prettier (glass) and weighs to the .1 pound.  Well if you can trust it.  Most days when I get on the scale, it weighs me exactly the same as the day before.  I will pick up something heavy like my blow dryer and weigh myself to see if its working and it does change.  Then when I put the blowdryer down and weigh myself, it will weigh me heavier or lighter than the day before and is usually in line with the doctor's scale when I check it.  So that's what I do every day.  I weigh myself, I weigh myself with the blowdryer, I weigh myself without the blowdryer and settle on that for my weight.  How ridiculous is that?

LOLOLOL.  That's quite the rigamarole to go through but hey, whatever works.

I have a WW glass digital scale that seems accurate and works very well, but you do have to be careful to follow the manufacturer's directions to step on it once, wait until it displays 0.00, then step on it again and try to center yourself on it.

LOL TwoHobbies, it shouldn't be this complicated but it is!

So onc's scale weighs me less than home scale.  Wonder about PCP scale. I see him in two weeks for annual exam and will check.  App't is first thing in the morning and I'm to come in fasting so shouldn't be that much difference.....  but I bet it weighs me more than home scale.

Kind of a funny story.  At least I found it funny.  I went out today to do some errands and came home to find DH had filled up an empty bag of dog food with cracked corn.  (We have cracked corn to feed the birds in winter.)  Anyway, he says, "lift that".  I say, "ummm no.  I CAN lift it but I know I shouldn't.  (I have LE)  He insists and I'm thinking he's lost his mind (just kidding) so I manoeuvre it on to my foot and raise it off the ground a bit.  I said, "I knew it was too much for me to lift".  "It's heavy".  He said, "it's 25 pounds, that's the weight you've lost".  Yep, it's a slow news day in our household today.

Marple, you DH sounds like quite a guy! I've often thought about my weight loss in terms of lbs of dog food or flour or whatever. It does give you quite a sense of accomplishment.

Agreed- no wonder we get out of breath more easily when lugging around extra weight. Very inspirational.

Good luck with the diets this week ladies!
