Just skimming thru the posts and I wan't to welcome all if you have never posted. This is "thee place to be!"  Couldn't live without you girls. NIce to be able to rant or rave and not be judged.  Smile

Have been busy tending to my spiderbite on my top part of my butt. Yup... it really did happen.Yell Am on cortozone and I think it is giving me hot flashes which I rarely get anymore. Could this be true? Also on benadryl and reactine which is very dehydrating.  Water drinking is on my main menu.

Burnt finger is looking good. Still have creme on it and bandaged but soon to get rid of the dressing.  If it doesn't rain it pours. grrrrrr... end of rant and yes I am on the grrrr thread. GRRRRRR.  GRRRRR.Wink Oh I bruised my LE arm good but no swelling from it. hum... anyone want to trade my cluminess for something else.

Purple, Saw your shoulder post a few days ago.  You need a recliner to sleep in if it is really bad. Only way to go.  I have had torn rotator and impingment and frozen shoulders before. A soft recliner keeps you off your shoulder and on your back. Now if we can invent a double spousal recliner so we don't miss our loved ones at night!

Reclining may not be  bad idea , hugz

You said:" Am on cortozone and I think it is giving me hot flashes which I rarely get anymore. Cou...."

Doubt it .,,, but if this persists , ask for your cortisol level and full thyroid panel to be checked/just had mine done.

Darn spiders, and rashes and pains - oh my! Wink

Hi purple32 and Hugz4u, was reading your latest posts re: hot flashes

I get the connection with the cortisol levels and hot flashes, but is there a connection between thyroid TSH levels and hot flashes, Purple32 ?

Hugz, I am already clumsy, so a trade would be more of the same for you, I seem to not be able to walk a straight line, walk into doorframes, walls, furniture. have spider bites, 3 of them, and one tiny tiny ant got me on the leg today, I walked into a sharp corner of a bar counter and bruised my LE breast. I am a mess. No LE in my arm at the moment, which is a blessing.

Purple32, again I thank you for the sleeve you could not use, I wear a sleeve when doing repetitive work or heavy work, so far so good, have not had a flare in arm for over 1 year. The truncal LE is never completely gone, but is not too bothersome, I miss sleeping without a bra though.

BTW I have seen double recliners in a furniture store ad.

dsgirl, I can so relate to clumsy!  I too have a fiesta of spider bites (we live in the woods..it's inevitable).  One on my LE arm, the rest elsewhere. I have a mystery bruise on my LE arm, no clue what caused it.  Then tonight, while cutting apples, I took a honkin' huge slice out of my thumb!  I made a pressure bandage and put additional pressure on it to boot, and after a while it stopped bleeding, but darn, of course it's on my LE arm!  Now I'll be watching the whole arm like a hawk to see if any little red spots sprout.  I feel like an idiot.

Just to mention... I am taping similar to the pictures I've seen.  My LE is mostly noticeable to me, but there hasn't been any therapists who were able to make it better.  My BS and RO told me last year that sometimes the swelling goes down and other times it's permanent.  I've used a swell spot and although that helps a little, I am not interested in using it everyday.  The tape seems to lightly pull the skin in the same direction I was doing MLD so I can't see it hurting any.  I'm hoping it will help move some fluid without much hassle.  I'll post if I see some results.  Sometimes we know our bodies better then the therapists, doctors, etc.

    In a word ?  Yes !

It was one of the clues as to what this mystery rash I developed on my neck/ chest /thyroid area might be.  After DRS looked for allergen sources, I began to think about some thyroid issues I dealt with 15 yrs ago ( I also have  a multinodular goiter).  I asked for a cortsiol test and full T panel.

It showed I was now in the hyperthyroid range.  I contacted my endo dr and she said yes----the hot flashes were completely typical.

In fact, when  the thyroid ' issues' were initially DX , drs were soooooo confused by me because none of us realized I was <also>going thru meno ( I was 41 ...app 14 yrs ago) .  Many of the symptoms overlapped.

Hot flashes outside of menopause can defintely be a symptom of thyroid levels that are out of norm range.  Takes a simple blood test.  Ask PCP.

SO glad you could use the sleeve !

    EDITED TO ADD:
    Carol

Just noticed about your thumb  - YIKES!
Please keep us updated- nothing much scarier than LE and cuts... you know what to do.

    Take Care.

I see your point, Rocky, and I too hope it helps!
But for others who want to try this, just realize- it can indeed "hurt' or make things worse.

    Please be cautioned.

Hope all goes well.  pls let us know.

Purple, I'll be fine. Mostly I'm asking myself why I wasn't wearing the cut-protective glove that DH gave me to prevent just such an occurance.  Really feeling more stupid than hurt.  I'll be watching like a hawk for signs of infection.

Boy clumsy seem to run along side BC & LE. I'm clumsy too. I think we don't think sometimes. Spider bites are bad here too. Last one was me first cellulitis experience. Not good.

    Everyone try to be careful.

I hear you Carol.  I just think these were things we never had to give a second thought to before !

Yes, spider bites or really, any kind of bites can be bad.
I just came across a booklet at work from 2007 - MA  DPH regarding mosquito repellents.

Any comments on oil of lemon eucalyptus ?  I am a mosquito magnet!

    thx

I wrapped my hand - first time last night and besides falling off a few times - the hand looks good this morning. So I guess practice makes perfect.

Gma, congratulations!Cool It's a good feeling to know how to do it, isn't it? Even in the "still practicing" stage. We need to stop and appreciate our own achievements with this stupid LE, because it's no small thing to be able to manage this well.

    We all rock!!!LaughingCoolBinney

    Re: mosquito repellants.

I am a mosquito magnet too, and I use a product that's supposed to be a bath oil, works for me, I do not want to put regular repellant on my dry skin. A little bit of a greasy/shiny feel to it when first appied, but it soaks right in, may not feel too good for people with oily skin. Mosquito season is short here, it gets too hot and is dry and they disappear. Have not heard of Oil of lemon eucalyptus.

GMA. yes, yes, and yes to your success in wrapping. I practice once a month to not forget and I wrap sometimes for a few nights such as when I burnt my finger a couple weeks ago.

I am glad I learned as I feel more freer knowing I can wrap on a trip or during a flare or whenever I need to. It is a must to learn beforehand as you just can't go out and do it the first time when you need it. It takes diligence and patience to master the art of wrapping.

Plus wrapping is going to be in the next oLYMPHICs events and I want to win first place.Tongue Out

Purple I have done a adrenal panel twice in two years and my cortisol levels are low. I just thought the cortizone topical bite creme may have upped my flashes as I rarely get them and suddenly I am having mini flashes in the morning upon waking up. Anyway I am going off the cortizone creme for my spider bite as my bite looks great now.

I just got my cytomel thryoid drugs but put them on the shelf until I read the side effects. I now know why I have busted my butt off exercising and can't get hardly a pound off without it coming back practically the same day. I am hoping that my hair will come in thicker too. Does it when you go on the thyroid drugs? It has steady thinned since Chemo but is getting thinner each week now. Gotta start the cytomel soon.

So far so good.  The tape is getting easier to use and is very comfortable.  I can use one strip and cut it into four strands so that it can fan out over the top and bottom of the breast.  There was a little learning curve for the first few times, but now it's very quick.  The tape appears to be helping, but like anything I've used before (MLD, special bras, swell spot) it helps while I am using it and then sort of goes back afterwards.  However, it is nice that when the tape is on, it is either moving the fluid out or it's holding the breast so it looks like it's moving the fluid.  I do like to see the symmetry so that part works for me.

Just to let anyone know who may want to try the tape... be careful if you are using a scissor to cut a piece while it's on your body... not a good idea ;-).

Can you get a sunburn through your sleeves?

Gma, yes (depending on the brand and style). They all seem like they'd at least protect us from the sun, but don't count on it.

BUT!! If your arm is red don't just assume it's sunburn and forget to consider cellulitis!Surprised And if you suspect cellulitis, get help at once.

    Please take care of yourself!

Gma, when I stretch my sleeve out and hold it up to light I can see right thru so I would wear some kind of a sun protection. Gotta tell you a sun fabric made with bamboo is the most cooling I find out of all my spf shirts.

So far I am fine..day three since the bites and blisters.  Sunburn has gone away...thinking I am going to be okay other than being a wee bit fluffy but that could have come from being in the car so long.

NED for the c-scan so to the LE clinic I go.  oh joy more wrapping.

Hi all! I had my one month follow up with my BS this morning for my cellulitis/breast lymphedema incident. She thinks it's slowly improving. She said it may take two years, but it will go away if I continue to do the MLD massage, exercising , OT and taping. The tape works great, but boy does it make my skin itch! My OT said to try Philips Milk of Magnesia on the area to be taped, let dry, then apply the Kinesio tape. (Really!) I'll give it a try tomorrow. It will be my first time wrapping myself, so we'll see how that goes! Hugs to everyone!

SwgeeWi - I have not had the kinesio tape done on me but I've read on these boards that Milk of Magnesia does work.  I have an adhesive tape allergy so I know I'd have to do it in order to use the tape.  It can't hurt, right?  Wink

Swgee, just wait for the tape to fall off because my girl used spray adhesive and I tried to pull it off once it started to peel off and I got a nasty, nasty, tape burn which required extra care to avoid an infection. Resist pulling it off, Just cut off the fallen parts with scissors. Be careful though.

Swgee, I'm not following what your BS said? Two years for what? Is she saying the lymphedema will go away in two years, or something else? Good news and bad news here: If it's lymphedema I think you can look forward to getting the swelling under control much more quickly than two years. But lymphedema is a chronic condition, and it doesn't repair itself--we all need to continue to manage our lymphedema for life.

Do let us know how the Milk of Magnesia works for you! Be well,
    Binney

I don't know about you ladies in the US but in NZ we have different coloour kinesio tape. I found the orange one gave me a bad reaction and I came out in itchy lumps which took ages to settle. I was told not to pull it off directly but soak it in oil (in my case olive oil) and gently "work it off" that way. It worked.
