Gosh Trish, you guys are getting a real cold snap. . it is here as well, but you seem to be really getting freezing temps. Do you live round where chrissy is, i know Aussy is vast, you in Camberra and Chrissy In Burra, that could be around the corner over here, but over your side could be like a five hour drive as i notice alot of you do alot of travelling to get to your DRS and Hospital OC visits and treatments, just curious really. to get to mine is a 5 min drive down the road. that must really be hard going having to travel, no wonder you girls get tired and depressed, bad enough having to have the darn BC, without the taking ages to get to the treatments. i used to find with the rads was having to go out for about 20 mins a day, probably and hour, wait for the rads and then home, but at least i was home, i was blessed in that way. was quite wearing out still and the rads made you weary and i was having to pack the house up, i must have had some strength, but at the end i was shattered, wasted, what ever. and then we had to clean and tidy up another house of bil that had been broken and they threw the contents up side down, stole the mother( now departed) grand piano, gosh that was a mission cleaning that up. but it all passed now, have a good day girls.

Hi Midnight - no Chrissy and I live in different states. She's in South Australia and I'm near Canberra in the Australian Capital Territory - I actually live in NSW and work in Canberra. So Chrissy's about a 14 or 16 hour drive from me lol. Yes Australia is a vast place.

lol, i need to learnt my Austrlian Geograhy, i was always had it in my brain that camberra was on the south side. i am now educated, thanks Trish. i never went that side, normally went the Brisbane side northwards, Bunderberg area. one day i will make that side a piority.

Midnight, I, Sue and Lyndal are all in or near Brisbane.
Kate, I take Efexor which minimises flushes. I only get a few each day.
Trish, I hope you get a hot shower soon!0 -
Does anyone else take a med to alleviate hot flashes?
0 -
I never took any meds Racy. I know I had some beauties, but dont remember getting them so frequently that meds would be warranted. I still get one now and then, but so minor that other than thinking to myself, gee I'm hot, I dont think any more of it and almost at the time I think that - it is over. Im sorry if your still suffering them.
Did chemo push you into permanent menopause? Im fairly sure my hot flushes stopped being a problem around the time I quit the zoladex which should have been around the time my menopause was permanent.
0 -
Lyndal, I can't really complain about my flashes so no need to be sorry. Yes, chemopause caused them.

Gee Trish, with such negative temperatures it's a wonder you haven't had snow.
I hope you ladies in colder climes have good heating!0 -
It's cold over here too.. down to only 1 degree this morning brrrrr! Where's a hot flash when you need one?0
-
ha ha Kate.

Hi Racy
Racy we have great heating - a wood fire that keeps the house lovely and warm. Work has problems with heating though, and while it's not really cold inside, it's certainly not as warm as it needs to be. We all wear our scarves almost all day lol.
No snow - it's been too dry - beautiful sunny winter days that Canberra is well known for, but there's rain forecast for today which will end our run of cold weather. According to the radio this morning it's been the coldest start to July for 47 years - but tomorrow it's supposed to be a warm 3 degrees overnight lol. We usually get at least one or two days of snow at home, but haven't had that for about 3 years now. Home is a bit higher than Canberra so more chance of snow. Canberra hasn't had snow for quite a few years now.
We forget that it can get cold over in the west too - Kate hope you were able to keep warm :-)
Trish

AussieKate: My former next door neighbor in Perth hills area had whooping cough recently too - it must be making the rounds in WA. Not nice when both of you are ill! Hoping you come around quickly. I don't know whether you are into herbs or not, but I have a page dedicated to them on my website:
http://marnieclark.com/diet-and-cancer/herbs-to-build-the-immune-system/
Hope that helps!

Hi girls, hope you having a good day. i see that somebody has had a post removed by community, how does that happen and why does it happen. you having another cold one trish, got very cold here last night. fighting for the darn blankets, darn dogs and cats, and hubby is very restless at times, you just get comfortable and he will move. the dogs kept barking at something last night and they chased one of the cats and she jumped on the bed, but got me on the face and put her sharp claw in my bottom lip and it bled for ages. she didn't mean too of cause, she was trying to get away from the little tart dog who forever chases her. i am glad it only got my lip and not an eye, would of been not so nice. so have had a disturbed night. going to shower now. catch ya.

That's interesting that the post was removed. I did read it this morning and the poster was reccomending herbs to Kate for her hot flushes, and gave her website address - so I guess someone decided it was spam.
I meant to say this morning I had a job interveiw with a recruiting agency for a job as a practice manager at a vet that sounds interesting. The interveiw was via Skype yesterday afternoon. I had to laugh afterwards. She asked the standard question - "where would you like to see yourself in 3 years time" (actually its usually 5 years) and I had to bite my tongue and not say "alive and healthy!" lol I don't know why they ask such a dumb question. Do they think you are going to say - oh working for (some big corporate company) and earning lots of dollars? Or oh maybe retired and living on a beach?
Anyway, keep your fingers crossed for me, I would really like this job it sounds like it would be just perfect for me.

Best of luck Trish, yea abit of a dumb question aye. nobody really knows what 3 or five years is going to bring. anyway hope it all goes well.

Oh everything's crossed here for you Trisha. It sounds like it would be a really interesting and diverse job - and the patient contact would be just bliss. Is it local or in Canberra? My, skyping for a job interview - how mod!
I think that is a stupid question too. I mean there is no right answer is there. If you say you want to be running the place, then someone's going to be threatened, if you say still there in the same role, you have no ambition and are probably fat and lazy. I too would love to say 'Alive would be nice?'. Maybe just saying happy performing a fulfilling role and being a part of a great team - actually I must remember that for future reference. Anyway I'm sure you said all the right things and I really hope you get the job.
Oh I missed the deleted post!
Rainy here. Just drizzle but cold grey and miserable. Trisha, I got a pang of homesickness at your description of the typical winter icy conditions. Apart from it being cold those clear still days were magical, especially with the early morning dew or frost covering branches, grasses everything and the sun gently illuminating from behind (great for photos).
Have a good day girls and rug up.

I reported the post as spam - it breached the rules in that she was selling something. Also, it looked like a dodgy website.

Hi ladies
good luck with the job Trish.
I would like to be alive, healthy, rich and beautiful in three or five years lol.
Jenn, what do you think of the latest cancer breakthrough that was in the news today? I hope it's a cure.0 -
Racy I just read about it. Sounds very promising and especially if they can apply the same principle to all cancers, not just blood cancers, but this could be the equivalent for them to what Herceptin can do for us ER+ers. Wouldn't that be great? And also pretty great that such a big breakthrough has come from Oz.

if it can prevent hair loss and other side effects, it would be great.
For some unknown reason I am feeling blue tonight. But I'm fairly sure it's to do with cancer. Feeling traumatised one year post rads this week.
I have no other reason to be sad.0 -
hi everyone i have a job interview this thursday!!! havent worked since june 2011. have been on income protection payments but that money is slowly petering out so i really need some work. i have decided i would like to start off with some part time work for a few months and see how things go.

Hi girls, sorry I've been MIA but the week has been sp busy with the two boys here. I delivered them home on Sunday, spent yesterday doing the rounds of the docs for my six month checkup then picked up my other GS, did some shopping with him in tow and am now home finally relaxing and trying to catch up with everyone. Forgive me if I miss someone.
Oh, docs are all happy with me and I'm still hanging with the stable boy so that makes me happy too......lol GS number three is here for this week so I think but the end of it I'll be pretty tired but wouldn't miss any of it for the world.
Trish goodluck with the interview......keeping everything crossed that you get the job. Stay warm!
Sue, I've seen her post before, not this thread but others and she is definitely trying to sell stuff.
Midnight we'll make a pseudo Aussie of you yet.....lol....hang around here long enough and you'll get to know our geography and our foibles......hahahaha! Hope you enjoy the lessons! Yup, there are many miles between Trish and I.....in fact between most of the girls and I. I'm sort of in the middle with girls to the east of me and girls to the west of me and the distances are about 3000+ k's either way.
Racy what was the cancer breakthrough? I don't listen to or read the newspapers so I sometimes miss important stuff (as well as the advertising and rubbish....lol). (((Hugs))) I know memory can pull you down around the significant dates after your Dx. Hang in there, the worst is over and you can only get better from here.
Melp, good luck with your job interview and my fingers are crossed for a good outcome.
Kate you are sounding a whole lot better! I'm really happy to hear it!
I need to go back and read some more and if I do that before I post I will lose this so I'll be right back!.....lol

Lyndal have you seen your doc yet? Are you still getting that pain? Please don't hang about on that as it needs to be spoken of with your doc sooner rather than later.
Kylie, it can take some time before you start to feel normal again and sometimes that normal is not the normal it was. When those tears threaten just let them come as it's much better to let them flow than hold them back.......they are the release valve that we all need.
Wow Ched, those trips to Sydney must be hell! Cudoes to you for being able to do them. Sure hope those hurdles are getting less and less for you and time goes on.
Jenn? Are you okay? What's happening with you girl? Sure hope you are just having a break.
Aly, sure hope you are feeling a lot better.
Love n hugs all. Chrissy

http://au.news.yahoo.com/latest/a/-/latest/14178198/new-breakthrough-gives-hope-to-cancer-sufferers/ is the treatment breakthrough that was annouced yesterday Chrissy. Fingers crossed that the trial goes well and that their treatment can cross over into mainstream BC and other cancers too.
Fingers and toes crossed that your lungs are okay Jenn and that your getting the best advice with regards to peace of mind and qol on continuing or discontinuing the rads.
Chrissy so glad you are still romping around with the stable boy, may the affair continue for many many more years to come lol.
I called my gp on Monday to find he is on hols for a month so Im thinking I will just wait till he returns as I have till September to get the bone density test and I dont see the onc till a week after that. Not in pain at present and will wait to see how bad the next bout is I guess.

Great to hear from you again Chrissy - I thought you'd be tied up with visitors, enjoy the rest of the week. It's great to hear you are still stabel YAY!!
Mel, good luck with your job interveiw tomorrow, it's great that you are at a stage where you are ready to face work again. I'm hoping to hear something tomorrow about my job interview too. BTW my answer to what I'll be doing in 3 years time was to be doing a job that fulfils and challenges me - it's my stock answer to those questions lol
Racy- sorry to hear you are feeling blue - but be comforted that you are not alone and we are thinking of you, and we've all had those feelings from time to time.
I too missed the news - thanks for the link Lyndal, I'll have to have a look as soon as I'm able.
Well girls I've now lost 9 1/2kg! Yay for me lol And we've been getting orders in from the event we photographed a couple of weeks ago. Not enough to retire on, but very satisfying.
Have a great day everyone
Trish

Am at work so will be brief...
Have been reading but just not in the mood for typing much after getting home from work - maybe the famous rads fatigue? Feel OK energywise during the day but have been in bed and asleep by 9pm most nights.
Good to hear everyone is trundling along generally OK (big hug to my rads buddy Kylie though...).
Pneumonitis symptoms started coming back 2 days ago :-( Have done 11 of the planned 28 rads sessions as of yesterday. My RO has organised for me to go and have a CT scan this afternoon before treatment to see if it is pneumonitis. I think it is...
If it is my options are:
1. Start taking steroids (which gave me cataracts already and may worsen the cataracts) and continue on for the next 4 planned weeks of rads, hoping that the steroids will minimise and prevent short-term and long-term effects of pneumonitis. RO can't say for certain is will work though and the pneumonitis may get worse since we won't be removing the source of the lung irritation. This would mean I would be on steroids for at least 8 weeks.
2. Stop rads and take short course of steroids like I did before. Move on to the anti-hormonals.
Hmmm, since I wasn't totally "bought in" to the whole rads experience guess which one I am likely to go with? My BFF is a nurse (quite senior) and she seems to think that it wouldn't be stupid of me to stop the rads if they are risking my long term lung health...

Hi there susieq58 - I just wanted to reply to your message about my "dodgy" website.
Just wanted to give you a little background. I've been communicating with AussieKate because I lived in her part of the world when I was going through breast cancer 8 years ago. I write daily articles on this website to help others going through the journey. Just wondering what you thought about it, why you thought it was dodgy?
I'm actually not trying to sell anything - I do have a few links to products because my readers have asked for them but I'm not pushing a thing.
Just trying to spread some love and compassion and empowerment through the breast cancer community.
I'd definitely welcome your feedback.
Hugs,

Jenn - good luck this afternoon, will be thinking of you.
Don't worry too much about the steroids making your cataracts worse, they are going to do that anyway. Once you have cataracts they gradually get worse unitl you have them removed.
And I know you'll make the right decision about rads. Aren't you looking at having a bmx? If that's the case, then would the rads still be necessary?
Trish

Trish - positive sentinal node with no ALND = rads...
If this is pneumonitis again - I'm out of there baby...
Jenn0 -
Mel - good luck to you too for your job interview. Will by my turn next. I'd like to get just a part time job soon. Even packing shelves at Woolies! just something to supplement income and put me back in the 'real' world again. I still don't really have the confidence to 'sell' myself. Still not looking my best and I need to feel better about my appearance to take that giant step.... but that's my short term goal. Hope you and Trish both get green lights.
Racy, so sorry you are feeling a bit blue at the moment. Probably the anniversary (or would that be cancerversary?) is bringing things up in your subconscious that you're not consciously thinking about. Hope you feel better soon. xx
I took sleeping tablets last night, after 4 nights of only averaging 4 hours sleep - thanks to hubby's chain saw snoring (I've been sleeping in another room with door closed and could still hear him), anyway worked a charm, I had 13 hours sleep - I know it's not good to dope yourself up but I was nearly besides myself with tiredness. Feeling super-duper now and off for a big walk with the dogs. Sun is out so it's going to be a lovely day.
