    Good morning everyone.

Alyson that is awful, I hope you are feeling better now. It is horrible when you have bad reactions to things. I said in hospital I couldn't take Tramal because of horrific side effects and a nurse got really cranky at me and said I was 'refusing' pain medication. I offered to take it if she wanted to re-sew all my stitches, because it makes me vomit and shake violently for several days, so she shut up.

Sue, I used a non-permanent herbal dye, so I am hoping it will wash out soon. I think I will just stick to the tinsel colour after this.

Trish I hope your new meds treat you well.

Everyone have a lovely weekend, we are having a family bbq to celebrate, as DD says, KICKING CANCER IN THE ARSE!!!

Trish - I take it in the morning. I'm not allowed to have brain fogginess due to my job :)

Trisha, I drove through Berrima once recently after I missed a turn. My eyes were on the road so it wasn't much help. I'm always getting lost and have yet to find a GPS that doesn't take me all round the country instead of the obvious route.

It might be worth taking my son there as we need to get lots of driving hours in the book and it makes a nice change to do long drives rather than constant 3 point turns and reverse parks. Google street view gives a good idea of what's in an area too.

I can highly recommend the cafe called The Olde Magpie Cafe, 28 Old Hume Highway, Berrima. I went there about three years ago with a group of friends and I have never forgotten the ambience and the food was great. It was just one of those really lovely cosy places that you don't want to leave. It's one or two doors down from the Surveyor General hotel on the main road of Berrima.

Kate, I ate there once with a group of school parents. I think it was an end of year get together about 8 years ago.  I remember I did like the food and the place, though I don't remember what I ate.

Sounds like a good choice of cafe in Berrima, I live 15km's away but don't go there often. Thanks Kate.

The celebration my DD put on last night was so beautiful. She had helium balloons, stars on the tables, wine glasses tied with ribbon with lollies in them. She is in hospitality, that's why she organised her own wedding. I was teary and so moved as she had said we were having sausages and bread on the bbq. x

    That's so sweet Kylie :-)

Hope everyone is travelling ok today, and no more allergic reactions! I am happy with the cafe option since I have no idea of any of them. I quite like a nice salad and nice surroundings and apart from that I'm easy :-)

I now have less spare time since uni started this week and I am enrolled in two external subjects and still working fulltime. Will likely pull out of one subject (3rd year Immunology) next week after my appt with the PS confirms that I can have my surgery. I will keep the other subject going (2nd year anthropology subject called Illness and Healing) as it has no on campus requirements and seems appropriate...

I need to find someone with a chronic or serious illness to interview for an assignment. Do you know where I'd find anyone like that? :-). It has to be an audio recorded interview so am thinking I might see if one of you ladies in NSW would be willing to meet up again and have a chat??? The assignment is written with a pseudonym name not your own used by the way...

3rd Tamoxifen tablet taken today with no ill effects noticed so far. I have chosen to start off taking them mid afternoon each day. I figured that way any ill effects would be mostly in the evening and I might be able to be active enough after taking it to prevent any sleep problems later at night. So far I have had no problems falling asleep or sleeping through to my now "normal" 5am.

I am speechless. I just read that the new Queensland Government is dismantling Breastscreen.

Just another in the daily growing list of seemingly crazy decisions by this government.

Don't get me started on the job cuts.

How can they dismantle breast screen, when there are so many women out there who are getting breast cancer where do they go and get mamos then. what is wrong with them. ???  I was hoping  Emma twig may of got a medal last night. but never mind she didnt, did you hear what the protest was over in the double sculls for the men. something to do with the french objected to something, but it was  apprently ok anyways. wondered if t was over the great Britians boat breaking its gear or something. they were not clear. Jave a good day girls.

They are decentralising the Breast Screen program to local hospital boards - women will still be able to go and have them.

Sue, I did read that but I understood it would be up to local hospitals to decide how to deliver services. I'm not sure how it will affect the marketing, mailout reminders and going to outside locations to offer screening.

I have always used a private clinic as I can afford to but many women use Breastscreen and have been diagnosed through that service.

Many of us (like me) wouldnt think to do a breastscreen in our 40's if it wasnt for Breastscreen Qld and their mobile vans. No way I would have gone along to a hospital to get a mammo at 42 - it would never have occured to me to do so. When I popped along to Breastscreen Qld's mobile van it was because I spotted it as I drove to work(with its phone number prominantly advertised), called when I parked and made an appointment for the following week when it was still near work. I viewed having a mammo just as I did a pap smear, just something to do every few years with no expectation of actually having cancer. Could have blown me down with a feather when they called me to come back for more tests a few days later lol. Even then I didnt think it as anything to worry about and only took my mum with me cause I had no idea where their clinic in Ipswich was.

Its already a very long waiting list to get a mammo and us in a hospital. I always have to book months in advance for mine at Sunnybank Priv Hosp and wouldnt be going back to Breastscreen Qld till 10 years after dx anyway. My point is that the availability without huge hospital red tape is essential in getting the younger ones in for checks and placing the program into an already overburdened hospital system will most likely deter many from going till they are over 50. My understanding of the benefits of Breastscreen Qld is to catch any BC early to give us the best chances, and the Qld govt altering a system that works is going to jeopardise this.

I actually like many of Newman's ideas and appreciate that cost cutting measures need to be made to bring Qld back into the black and if his change to the system is to simply remove a layer of burocracy (and therefore administrative wages) its good, but if it detracts even slightly from the delivery of an easily available efficient system of screening all women for BC from the age of 40 (though they advertise from 50), then every female in the state needs to take action on their own behalf and their children and grandchildrens behalf to ensure  Breastscreen Qld survives in its current form.

Meant to update you ladies on the vitamin regime that I started a while back after seeing that naturopath.

Being completely honest, I have NOT improved my diet to any extent, am still smoking as much as ever and havent exercised at all other than working at my shop. Im not religious about taking the pills but take most of them once a day. Only taken the zinc a few times a week too as its a big pill to swallow and I hate that. In other words, Im not the perfect example of following orders and never have been haha.

Despite not following orders completely, my clarity of thought has improved out of sight and so have the aches and pains.

Brainwise, Ive been doing all the things to sort out my shop that I have left hanging forever. Researched and will introduce a new point of sale and accounting software tomorrow, picking up a new computer tomorrow as well, and organising many other things that were all "too hard" a few months back. So nice to be thinking pretty clearly though the memory is still a bit shot.

My mother is complaining every time I talk to her, that Im talking too fast and that I have too much energy. She's worried about the vitamins hurting me cause hormones are my enemy and in her opinion, me feeling pretty much like I did pre cancer means Im somehow feeding the hormones and will bring the cancer back. Guess my next lot of blood tests will be a good guide as to whether my mum is worrying about nothing which is what I think.

Im really really feeling good. Worked 9 hours on my feet at the shop yesterday and wasnt crippled by the time I got home and thats the first time since I was dx that Ive been able to do that and not suffer horribly for the next few days.

I dont know for sure, but my guess is that the improved physical side of it is from changing from the standard calcium pills to the liquid calcium pills. That test I did before starting all this showed a heap of calcium in my tissue and now that Ive changed to the liquid calcium capsules I think its all going straight to the bones where its supposed to. Either way im very happy to be in so much less pain on a daily basis.

Anyway there you go. If any of you are taking calcium (and I hope you all are lol) change to a liquid form and see if you notice a improvement. I will be fascinated to see if you do and to confirm my guess.

Lyndal - you and I will make a good pair (re smoking)

Turns out the whole breast screen closing thing was a huge beat up by the newspaper - they are not closing down. They are merely going to send the mobile vans out to the regions. They are actually increasing funding. There were over 400 comments on the Courier Mail about this. The government should sue the bloody paper.

Good posts Lyndal. I hope you are right Sue about the service continuing.

I was diagnosed at a private clinic as my GP had been sending me for annual screens since early 40s. Mine was diagnosed on ultrasound. I wouldn't have found it myself as I'm not competent at breast exams

    Morning all

Congratulations Jenn on resuming your studies, you are starting to move on which is great.  Hmmm..  someone with a chronic or serious illness?  Wonder where you'd find someone like that lol.

Lynda your information on the liquid calcium was intersting - makes sense though.  Where do you get liquid calcium though?  Is it as available as the normal calcium tablets?

And I have to confess too - l'm a smoker and have been pretty much all my life.  I know it's not good for me and I've tried to give up many, many times, but just can't seem to stay off them.  We all have our imperfections lol.  While I've made a lot of improvements in my lifestyle - that's one that eludes me.

Sounds like the Olde Magpie Cafe at Berrima will be a good place to eat (thanks for the suggestion Kate).  What time will we meet? 12 ok with everyone?

I have now taken my third Aromasin tablet - and had no reactions to it thank goodness.  I've been taking it with my dinner and have noticed I feel nauseated for about an hour afterwards, but not too bad and so far that's it.

    Have a great Monday everyone

    Trish

Have a good DAY ALL.

I went to the lymphedema clinic today and was measured. Everything is fine and I am able to do whatever feels right, I am still going to push the 'no firewood' card. This was a great relief to finally go because I had put it off for ages.

My Mum and DD came with me, then we went baby stuff shopping and out to lunch.  I am exhausted but had a lovely day.

Trish, I have been watching your temperatures, I hope you are keeping warm. x

Alyson, are most of the wines marketed in your region NZ wines, or do you equally have Aussie wines.

I have done a wine tour out of Hawkes Bay.

    Cheers!

Trish the liquid calcium capsules are definately available at health food stores so I hope you can find them. I truly do feel the difference. Had to work 10 hours today and my hips did start aching a bit at the end, but were fine an hour after I got home. In the past I would have been hobbling around or having to take a long soak in the bath to be able to move.

Lmao off at Racy taking a sip. I like a nice sweet white wine myself with Asti Ricadonna being my favorite, problem is I get shocking hangovers nowadays from even 2 glasses so dont indulge often. Go back 10 years and I could keep up with the best of em lol.

Kylie, you do get to know the signs of when you are doing too much and need to back off or put a sleeve on. I get these little pangs of pain running thru my forearm and when I look, I see slight rumpling (best description I have lol) and chuck the sleeve on. Ive been really careful and really lucky and for the most part its a non issue nowadays. I cant remember which pill the naturopath gave me to keep the lymphs in order, but I vagulely remember her saying something she was giving me would help and whatever it is it seems to be working. I'll pop in and ask her to clarify when I see her in her shop next and let you know.

Bit early to be thinking about wines. Racey,  we drink a lot of Aussie wine and there is Californian, Chilean and European. We are not one eyed at all, just like the best.

Linda I am a cheap drunk, two glasses and its far too much so really don't drink much at all but love a very good wine.

Pleased to see you lot have another gold- you will go ahead of us but its been fun while you have been behind. Fancy wanting to be a joint nation so you could get our golds.
