Sandy - they do the blue dye during the surgery so you aren't aware of that bit. If a node lights up with blue dye that matches the pics of the radioactive tracer, then it confims it's a sentinel node. The first time, because radiology stuffed up, they just used the dye.

Jenn, your GP can also prescribe an antidepressant such as Lexapro. I took it and found it really helpful. (I now take Efexor but think that's not the best option with Tamox).

I recall you did take Lexapro 'as needed' previously.

Trish i hope your tooth feels better soon, gentle hug. Am I totally out with times, nothing sticks, have you got your other procedure tomorrow?

Jenn, have you tried taking tamox at different time of day. I went from morning to night and started sleeping better, but some have said the opposite. Having another op on the agenda is pretty full on too. I think we have to remember that if we didn't have BC, surgery would be a big deal. It is just we have gone through so much we tend to minimise things. Hugs.

Chrissy, it's great you can put your feet up.

I did my exercises but got cording in my arm after my full clearance. Massage didn't help, then I read to stand facing the room corner, put a hand on each wall and push. I only had to do it a couple of times and it disappeared.

I hope everyone is doing well x

Hi Sandy, yes, it is the radioactive tracer that I was sressing about. There have been enough people here telling me that is is doable that I have settled down a bit with my stressing over it. Even my surgeon told me that the person that does iit is so skilled that he has never had any of his patients say that it was terrible.

He also assured me that the blue dye is done when you are under because it doesn't last for long so they need to inject it at the time of the biopsy.

I have been thinking about Jenn since I read the posts last night. I am so sorry that you are having such a terrible time, way too much stress. You are obviously such a valued member here, always there for everyone, and so appreciated for your kind words and wisdom. I am so grateful for your time with my issues. What can I say, but to wish you all things good and hope that what you are experiencing now will pass soon and you'll be able to get the sleep you need to move forward and keep going on this journey. Big hugs from the newbie!

Trish, how is yr tooth today? hope you are not in too much pain.

Jenn, how was yr sleep last night, i have always taken my tammy at night as i was told if it caused nausea, at least i would not notice it too much as i would during day. i rang my BC nurse to ask if there is something not so potent as i get a heavy fogginess in my head, not a headache, but on the boarder line and that makes you tired. i snore like something crazy. hubby says, he feels like he is out in the woods with chain saws. but i can't help it. he said, soon as my head hits the pillow, the chain saw starts. after he makes me feel guilty, he then says, if i did not snore, he would not sleep as at least he knows i am still there and he loves that. I used to  go to church camps and you would certainly get told about snoring, so i stopped going as i would lay awake and then be tired the next days as i was too scared to go to sleep incase i snored.  i forgot the name of drug you told me chrissy that is like tamoxifen, but  not have same  s/e as tamoxifen.  have not heard back from bc nurse yet, not unusual. abit slack really. never mind will talk to Dr next month, reg six month check up , 23 Jan.

    Hello all

My tooth is feeling a lot better today, but I'm feeling crummy. Had to take the first of my laxatives last night for prep for tomorrow's procedure. They weren't in my tummy for longer than 5 minutes before I was throwing up. This is just normal laxatives, nothing rough, but I lost them. I think it's the antibiotics that's the culprit though. The tougher laxatives start this afternoon, I ended up taking laxatives that DH had, and kept those down. And they did their job this morning :-)

I'll take another antibiotic at lunch time, my last solid meal for a little while, and lunch is only 2 pieces of dry toast!

Jenn hoping you got some sleep (((((hugs))))

    Trish

Aww Trish, that sounds awful. Sending so many cyber hugs to you that hopefully you can feel one of them. Does everything go back to normal after the procedure so you can mentally plan a feast for Thursday night?

Trisha-Anne, so sorry to hear you're so under the weather too. Toothache is just the most dreadful pain, glad to hear it has subsided a bit, but to be throwing up too, that just isn't fair. Can you take a stemetil or maxalon? Your tummy will feel raw after all that.

I wish you all the best for your procedure.

Hi All, Im new and in Auckland New Zealand. This afternoon my daughter and I are going to see a genetic counseller as to what her chances are of inheriting what I have or worse. Like SandyAust I had my SNB the day before surgery and it really wasnt all that bad. Luckily they were clear. Yes, there are so many procedures to go thru before the actual masectomy but I found the drain was one of the worst things to endure. I have a tissue expander in my left breast at the moment and will  have swapover surgery near the end of Jan. With the bra I am wearing at the moment no one can tell. Good luck to everyone and thanks for having me here.

There is nothing like the one we have at home......lol.......really strange how I ponder on stupid things........hahaha!.......oh well I guess that's just me. Heading over to Clare shortly for my hydrotherapy and I'm actually looking forward to it!.......now that really is strange!!

Trish - do you have that stuff to drink? Make sure you have plenty of toilet paper by the loo. Having seen Steve go through it so many times - not something I would want to do myself.

Chrissy, it is not silly that you feel like that about yr bed, you can go away and have the bestest time, but there is nothing like yr own bed and there is nothing like home, because that is yr castle, where you can chill out and be yr self. hope yr hydro therapy goes well.

Trish glad yr mouth feeling alot better, just sorry you have to go thru this other procedure, keep thinking out the other side and that you can a lovely meal when done. i have not had  a colonoscopy, but i have had a berium enema, they are so gross. you have the same sort of food, and do the laxitive thing and drink this foul stuff for itr to show up on the xray or what ever it is. i dont know if that procedure is still done, or they just do the colonscopy.  had two of those to which they found polyps on the bowel. they said, i had quite alot of bowel, that you could cut alot off it and still be alot there, but the down fall there is also room for bloaty tummys, which i have alot and excess wind at times lol.  the procedure i did not like at all, esp that drink  uggh, horrible stuff.it was alike a green milk shake looking thing, so i dont think you will have that trish. god i hope not. warm hugs xoxo

Trish, I didn't realise it was a colonoscopy you were having. That's one thing I have experience with. I have had quite a few and have to say that I actually really like the "cleaned out feeling" after the prep. Just don't stray too far from your loo!LOL  The prep has changed a bit over the years. It is much easier now with just one jug of liquid to drink. I always have barley sugar to suck during the day too, and lemon jelly. The actual procedure is nothing at all. You are off to sleep and a moment later you're awake, all done.

Tea and buscuits, wrapped in a blanket  in a big recliner chair at the place I go to.

    Afternoon all

Seem to be running around like a headless chook today so in a few minutes I am going to sit down for a while.

Hope all goes well tomorrow but as everyone says don't stray far!!! Pity you have tooth troubles as well.

    Jenn did you sleep.

Patc I am in Auckland as well, gathering quite a group of us here. Feel free to ask any questions as there is a great deal of combined experience here.

    Have a good day.

    Hi all,

At work, so it has to be quick...

Went to my PCP last night to report that the Temazapam prescribed last week was not solving the sleep problem. My PCP was not there so I saw his partner who prescribed me some Remeron aka: Avanza (mirtazipine). Got home with it and looked it up to find that it's a serious anti-depressant with weight gain being one of the main side-effects!

I was so desperate for sleep last night and so stressed from being stressed, that I took it.

Still woke up at 3am and took another one then which sent me back to sleep. I have no idea if the sleep or the drug has made me feel better today, but I am not taking any more of these. I will go back to the Temazapam and just take a second one at 3am if I need to (dr said that was OK).

Last thing I need is an anti-depressant that will make me fatter when I'm already not happy about my weight...

Will see what the psychiatrist recommends next week. I really would prefer counselling

to drugs. I am very averse to anti-depressants.

    Hello all

Jenn good to know you are feeling better today, sleep will help every time.

I just woke from a 2 hour nap, and feel much better than I did this morning. Took my last antibiotic with my dry toast, and have kept it down.

Yes the prep is worse than the procedure lol. Have to take a sachet of something mixed in with a glass of water at 5pm then have to drink the stuff I made up this morning and is in the fridge at 9pm tonight. It's not thick, looks like cordial and smells lemony. Have to have 1.5 ltrs of that tonight (nurse said through a straw) then half ltr in morning for breakfast. And yes was told don't go too far from loo lol.

I don't go I till 2.45 tomorrow so won't be able to "feast" till later tomorrow night. I'm not concerned about the procedure at all, and have pretty much convinced myself they won't find anything sinister. I just hope that I can keep the stuff down tonight so it can do its job. Ariom I thought it would give me that "cleaned out" feeling lol

Oh Pat welcome to our little group (((((hugs))))) to you.

Jenn happy to see that you feel a bit better today. No one likes to take antidepressants or any other drug but sometimes they really are necessary. The weight gain comes more from the fact that you feel better so eat more but if you are aware of that then you can do something to curb it. If you psych suggests an antidepressant please do take them.

Trish thinking of you as you do the prep!!!

Just done my hydro and am now sitting in the Bakery Cafe having lunch and an iced coffee..........any calories I burnt are now back on my butt!.......lol....... It's 36 outside and I've got to go out in it to go home!.........all I can say is thank goodness for Airconditioning!!!!!

Ooo Trish! Your poor behind!!! Not to mention the rest if your GI system. While I think of it......take care you don't get constipated when you start to eat........I know we all said have a feast when you are done but really you are better off starting small and fibrous to get things moving naturally but don't be surprised if you don't go for a few days.

Ooh trish. I bet you have a very stingy bot! Will be keeping you close in my thoughts tomorrow lots of hugs to you. I will be holding my breath until you post when its over. Im enjoying being with my sister very much but missing hubby and pups a lot. They have had over 4 inches of rain in less than 24hrs. Usually 5mm of rain is something to get excited about so this much rain is a real anomoly. XxXxxx

Kate I hear you saying you miss your hubby coz as much as I enjoy going somewhere I'm always really pleased to get home to spend some time with mine.........you'd think after 43years I would have had enough togetherness!........lol

    Have a good evening all!

Trish, wishing you good luck for tomorrow. It's unfortunate that you have to wait around till the afternoon for your procedure. I hope you are sleeping soundly now.

I remember about a month ago there was news of a new blood test that has been developed for testing for bowel cancer. It would be a lot more tolerable than the current ptocess :-(.

Hi Racy still up :-( but I expected to not sleep well tonight, I slept so well and too long during the day today. At least I've stopped going to the loo for now lol my main problem is I am developing a nasty headache, I'm sure from being dehydrated. So trying to drink as much water as I can at the moment. Will go to sleep soon I think.

Kate I would be missing DH too. They can be a real pain at times, but we wouldn't be without them.

Chrissy, I think you are right, a big feast would probably not be a great idea lol. At least I've now lost all the weight I put on in Brisbane lol.

Welcome Pat, I hope your appt with Genetic Counsellor is helpful. I went but didn't fit criteria for free testing, even with a Mum and Aunt with BC. My DD said even if I got tested at this point in time she doesn't want to know and I will accept her wishes. She has had a baseline ultrasound and we will keep a keen eye on her.

Trish, I would love to give you a big hug but being squeezed is probably the last thing you want today. I am thinking of you and your long drive to the hospital. xxx
