Hey Aussie, did they say where around Burra? Sounds interesting but I didnt realise there was a farm near by doing that.

Congrats on you anniversary, I know you feel like it was a very long one but the first year is always the hardest.

    Hello everyone

Angela and Kate great to see you both drop in :-)

I'm on the mend, and have actually come into work this morning for a little while to see how I go.

We had some sad news yesterday, my BIL (DH's sister's DH) passed away suddenly and unexpectedly.  He's had heart problems for some time now, and had some sort of op around 5 years ago.  He's been on meds, and was told to loose a lot of weight, which he didn't do.  He had a massive heart attack yesterday morning.  At least it was quick :-(

DH has gone up to Wollongong to be with his sister, and I'll go up there as soon as we know when the funeral will be.  I have a feeling it will be Friday, which will mean the vet won't be coming to Gus, and I'm a bit relieved, but I know it's still got to be done.  Then there's the problem of what to do with him if I'm away overnight.  I don't even like leaving him at home on his own for a few hours in case he falls over and can't get himself up.

It will all work itself out eventually I suppose.

    Trish

    xoxo

Trish, sorry about your sad news....you have a lot going on at the moment....

Chrissy and Aussie, I saw the Landline on carob and I think it was Borough and Port Elliot with the farms (although Borough has stopped now)....

I may not post all that often myself but I do enjoy reading your posts :)

I am also following a running thread on this site and a number of the members were doing the Boston Marathon. They were all so excited before the race and now it has come to a very sad end with the bomb blasts....it is horrible news....

    Hi girls

Trish...sorry to hear your sad news, as Tammy said, you have a lot going on at the moment (((hugs)))

Kate...lovely to hear from you. I have a funny bike story similar to yours except it involves my daughter. She rode her bike with dog on lead to the vet for her vaccination, well doggy went in front of the bike, she fell off, luckily had a helmet on which ended up quite battered. She had loads of cuts & bruises & the vet patched her up! Her brother still teases her about her treatment at the vet...lol. Good luck with your bike riding & be careful!!

Chrissy...you are so crafty (I mean in a talented way..lol). It seems you could make just about anything....how do your eyes cope with the smaller lacey things? Very talented lady.....

Well, today is scan day & I have to say I don't usually get too nervous, but today I am feeling it!! I think the further the progression gets the more nervous I get & to be honest, I haven't once had a scan (or any other test for that matter) that is good news.......

So I've come to expect the worst. Fingers, toes & anything else you can think of crossed!!!

Kate, very glad to see you back, enjoy yr bike ride, but be careful.

Trish, am sorry about yr BIL, you have had alot of to go thru lately, do not wear yrself out at work.  Poor Gus, i am sure he will be ok for a few hours, have you got somebody who could check on him while you gone.

Karen, fingers crossed for scans today, hope they all fine.

Kylie, hope mammo will be ok. fingers crossed for you as well.

Tammy, I wonder why these  little Wheezles find the need to hurt other people, re Boston, evil, gosh there are some horrible people around. No value for anyone's life. People out having a lovely time and these mongrels just want to destroy everybody. very sad,

Oh Trish, I'm so sorry about your sad news Re your BIL......as you say, at least it was quick.....but what a shock to everyone! Take care and don't be trying to do too much too soon as it will come back and bite you on the butt and lay you low for a whole lot longer.....voice of experience here, I've had the dreaded pneumonia twice! It's a baaaaad thing!

Karen I love doing/making things, always have. I taught myself to sew clothes for myself when I was twelve and have been doing all sorts of stuff ever since........I can't just sit and do nothing. The eyes are starting to find focusing a bit difficult but I fixed that with a special bright light that I can direct onto what I'm doing, helps heaps. I was about six or seven when my brother taught me to knit and crocheting is self taught. My Nana used to do fine needle work and I used to love watching her. She always told me that f I ever did fancy work as it was called, to make sure the back was a good as the front so when a table cloth or napkins were worked it wouldn't matter what side was up. I'm afraid I'm a bit pedantic about that now and have been known to unpick hours of work because I wasn't satisfied with the result.....lol........and I wonder where my kids and grands get their perfectionism from!......hahahaha ha!

Tammy thanks for that, I was wondering where...........Pt Elliot is about two hundred Ks plus from here, actually closer to where my SIL lives.

Good luck girls with your scans! Can't wait to hear results.

Holy shit I'm scared....pick them up tomorrow & see onc Thursday....

Thanks for the good wishes girls, just need a few prayers now.....lol

Shit Karen!  Boy I hate those techs who by the way are not supposed to say not one single word, saying just enough to make you worry yourself sick!

Holding your hand between now and when you see your onc.  Maybe have a read of the results when you get them tomorrow.......I always do.  If you want to chat I'll PM my phone number.......just let me know.

Trish, I'm pleased to hear that you are being a good girl!.......lol.

    Karen, giant, giant hugs.

Chrissy, your patience is incredible. I love to sew and paint but don't seem to get much done lately.

Trish sorry you are having such a difficult time. Thinking of you.

Kate, so glad to hear you are ok. I bet you are missing hubby.

My scans were ok. Doctor at the US centre seems to think it is scar tissue which is what the onc was hoping. I will see what onc says next time I see him as he said if these come back ok we will keep investigating.

I will have to go on a bra hunt. It hurts where the bra touches even the soft ones and they don't offer any support.

Thanks for all the luv, hugs & hand holding :)

I have to say, my mind has gotten away from me....totally convinced of the worst & I know that it won't change the outcome but shit, I can't help it!!

I can pick the scans & report up in just over 2 hours & believe me Chrissy, I will be reading it (my onc actually doesn't mind me doing it.....do it all the time!)........

Will let you all know what I find :)

    Karen, thinking of you, ((((hugs))))

Trish, sorry about your BIL, especially with everything else happening.

I arrived home late last night after spending time with the grandchildren again (lucky me, they are growing up so fast and are so cute and busy - the 4 month old grand daughter is almost sitting up by herself and can almost roll over!!!) I have an appointmen with my doctor today to talk about setting up my 4 weekly Denosumab injections close to home instead of almost a 2 hour trip each way (by the time you take in parking and walking to the oncology clinic). I also need to discuss my intending trip to Sydney to catch up with everyone. My family is not happy with me wanting to drive due to my DVT, so I will check with the GP for guidance. I amgoing to see the doctor for 3 things, but cannot remember what the 3rd thing is for.... oh well, i have 2 more hours to try to remember... lol. Which reminds me, I left my daughter in laws place yesterday afternoon after accompanying her and my 2 little grand daughters for their innoculations (we had to wait for 2 hours before we got seen and the baby was not happy and tired from all that waiting). I said goodbye to them, and drove off - in the wrong direction. I was heading south going home  to Victor Harbor instead of north to pick up my other 2 yea rold grand daughter from child care. I realised it about 10 minutes into the drive, so I was not too late. I think that I will start writing everything down from now on.

Hello to everyone else, and I hope you are all well.

    Cheers

    Mandy x

Karen, i am sending you great big hugs and lots of love. I also am praying for wonderful results and as Chrissy said, they don't  tell you enough, but just that little thing that leaves you trembling in yr boots wondering  what it is, saying nothing  is probably sufficent. Karen it is yr life and anybody in yr shoes will be freaking out. We are all here withn heaps of love and support. xxx

Mandy, glad you had time with Grandkids, they grow up quick.  Mandy i think you will have to write things down, i forget things so much, but your's is much more excusable and i really feel for you. you know i have been to the supermarket so many times as my hubby does the shopping mainly, but i always forget these flaming envelopes, i need them to send the  cheque back to the animals works, they put wrong name on it and bank won't accept it, so i will send the cheque back and get them to put it into his bank, but i can't seem to remember to buy the envelopes. Gets fustrating for me, but must be more for you, feel so bad for you. I don't know whether you read my post about my diabetes, i saw you asking thats all how i got on, but now i will have to educate hubby, he brought me lollies, he knows i like those jubes, and can't understand why i say no now. I don't really think he understands what diabetes is all about. He needs educating too, i have a good knowledge, just have to apply it to my life now.

Kylie, glad things Appear to be ok with your scan, yes it does get uncomfortable when you have sore areas around breast area and the rub, very annoying.

Hello Angela and Gail and everybody and Trish and Alyson, hope you resting Alyson, when are you seeing Doc about Bone pain Alyson. Trish, hope you resting before you have to go away for funeral. Everything  has come all at once for you.

well take care ladies and for anyone i have not mentioned, love to you all.

    Hi girls

Well I picked up the scans & it's a bit confusing for me to interpret but the good news is there are NO BRAIN METS!!

Bad news is there is a new liver met & mets on my skull, however they could have been there awhile as I haven't had my head scanned for nearly a year!

There is also some shrinkage of a couple of spots.....so trying to be optimistic!!

If anyone can interpret the following it would be greatly appreciated (Chrissy probably can!)

'The metastasis appear slightly more sclerotic & prominent'????

'There are a number of sclerotic osteoblastic metastasis on base of skull/clivus'????

Now I just have to wait with interest to see what the onc says tomorrow....but would appreciate any input as to what the above statements mean....

    Keep ya posted.....

    Karen xoxox

PS...sorry it's all about me, can't really think of anything else at the moment!! Xxx

Great news, alot more optismistic than before you went  and got em. Chrissy should be able to help you and your onc will sum it up tomorrow. Karen when you are in  a crisis like you are, it's very hard to focus on anything else, but what you going thru. no worries. take care.

Karen, big hugs to you and everything crossed for positive news tomorrow.

Rode the bke and I didn't fally off, but I can hardly walk today... That is a funny story about your daughter. The ambulance people who came to get me told me it is actually an offence to ride with a dog on a lead. I really didn't know that beforehand.

I hope Chrissy can clarify the report a bit for you so that you might sleep OK tonight.

sclerotic means bony. Whatthey are saying is that your bone mets look slighly larger (prominent) and more solid. Bone mets are caused by the bone cells going crazy so as the tumour area grows it will stay smaller while the bone cells do their first lot of crazy growth and then when they run out of space in that area they start growing outward.

    Hope that makes sense?

I'm guessing that your report is showing some degree of progression :-/

    luv Jenn

Thanks Jenn.....yes, seems to be plenty of bone progression particularly in the spine & skull :( also a new liver met, but on the other hand some shrinkage.....

No wonder I'm confused....just have try to be patient & wait til tomorrow....lol

Really was hoping for stable so I could stay on the very convenient chemo, Xeloda...

Karen, there are two types of bone lesions one caused by the osteoclasts.....lytic, and one caused by the osteoblasts.......blastic.  Lytic lesions are thin and holie as the building part of the bone (Osreoblasts) do not lay down new bone.  Blastic lesions are bone that does not break down as the osteoclasts are not working and you end up with bone thickening or lumps.

The skull clivus is a section of the skull located behind and below the sinus dos that is where your mets are.

Basically what they are saying is that your mets are solid lumps not holes.

Hope all that makes sense to you.

Oh Mandy, I was thinking today....not a good move...lol.....and if your family doesn't want you to drive, we could always bus or train it......haven't been on either for many years so it would be an adventure!...Just a thought.

    Yay Kate!  Success!

Thanks Chrissy.....you are so bloody knowledgable....:)

So are solid tumours better or worse than ones with holes? Excuse my 'dumbness'!!!

I keep re reading the report & it seems there isn't a bone in my body without mets....:(

Love to all, will talk about something else after tomorrow....lol

Karen I think that each of them bring their own problems per se but I doubt that one is worse than the other.  Mine are of the Lytic kind and that is why my arm has a nail in it that goes from shoulder to just above my elbow......it was on the verge of shattering.  Not a good thought......lol.

Karen I hope you get some answers today - and of course it's all about you at the moment - that's why we are here to love and support whoever it's all about at the time!  Never, never apologise for that :-) ((((hugs)))) to you and looking forward to reading what the onc tells you.

Vet is coming at 2.00pm today for Gus :-(  I feel like I'm in a surreal world at the moment.  Poor boy is so wobbly on his feet, and so miserable most of the time now, but last night he lay on the loungeroom floor and "chatted" with us for around an hour, tail wagging and so animated.

Sending you all love and ((((hugs)))))
