Bugger Sheila - I'm sorry to hear your news, sending you ((((hugs)))) I hope you get a port soon too, I had one through chemo and it was great, my veins aren't too bad, but 12 months of Herceptin every three weeks, and I don't think they would have stood up.

Chrissy - no haven't heard anything. I decided yesterday that I would go see my onc. My next appointment with him isn't until Jan, and when I looked at my card yesterday, realised the referral has run out. So will have to get a new referral before I go. So I guess I'll have to make another appointment with my GP (more money!!) and talk to him face to face to see what his problem is, and get another referral to the onc sorted, or a referral to another specialist. I agree - this has been going on for far too long. I really do feel at ease though - yes I'm in pain, and some days are bad, and some days are really ok. My mental state is pretty good though, I'm not worried or anxious about the whole thing, which is a bit weird lol.

Trish, not weird at all it just means that you have accepted what will be will be and you can't change a thing. It's actually a good place to be as you can look at things objectively. I agree with you though, it is time to be proactive and go get an appointment with your GP and tell him to pull his bloody finger out! I'll bet he has forgotten.......... Even if it end up being nothing to do with BC, being in pain is not good!

I'm back in Aus. It was all go while in NZ and I still didn't get everything done that needed doing. They are going to try and get Mum home for the weekend and then I need to start ordering home delivery meals for her and I'll need to get a plumber in to convert her shower to a hand held.

Yesterday I dropped her car at the auctioneers and a quick visit to the lawyer together got the power of attorney in place. We visited her work and she signed the resignation papers. They were so lovely I teared up. It was a support service and they are now the service that will provide support workers to go and help her with shopping etc.

There was a big difference between how she was in July when we were over there and this week. She is so much less capable of decision making and communicating her needs :-/ It was so sad... I'm exhausted as I just did not stop at all each day.

Jenn, you're probably exhausted from the emotional as well as physical strain. It really is a difficult time when roles reverse and it is your parents who need looking after.

You've achieved a lot. Remember to take care of yourself too (((hugs)))

    Hi everyone,

Did anyone attend the BC forum in Sydney yesterday? It was my first and I really enjoyed the speakers-Prof Boyages, Jane Turner and Raylene Boyle. So many amazing women facing this battle every day...

Another question if anyone is on herceptin. I start mine later this year and wonder do they always do half hour infusions? I see from the blogs in America that some people do it over 90 mins. Is there that choice here in Australia?

It is 39 degrees today in Sydney. Hope everyone keeps cool.

Jenn sorry to hear of your troubles. And thank for the link to that very interesting article of a man's perspective of mastectomy-made me cry.!

Good morning ladies, i am having a busy day getting house back in order. hubby is wonderful, but certainly not domesticated in the area of house work, but i will get it ship shape in time. they were not taught as kids to clean up and put things away while they still in the hand, the grandmother did it. the mother was a music teacher, so was out doing music lessons or teaching them at home. but they were not taught to be tidy kiwis, exact opposite to us, mum is very fussy, but not as she used to be. I have come to a conclusion though, that be people who are super clean, get sick more often than people who are not. I find people who wash there hands alot. i am referring to over washing of hands, you need to wash hands before you eat and after using the the loo, well we have found that the driver we have does that and wears gloves, is the one who gets sick more than the others, NO IMUINTY. my eldest sister used to eat dirt whan she was a toddler and the doc told mum, let her do it, it builds imunity. i believe that to be true, getting a cold, unless your imumity is down and that not good, but if you healthy, i think the body is good to have something to fight, now and again. but i do stress, if you having chemo or any other ilness, its the last thing you need. I guess i am just saying being compulsively clean, can work against you as well.

Jenn, i do hope your mum will be ok. you are good daughter, it wull be good that she will be getting meals..wish i could help you and look after her, so you would have no worries, i did 32 years of that work and loved it. i am just too far way from her. But i would take good care of her for you.

Guess i better go and have a good day girls.

Annette welcome home, glad you had a good time at your Mum's :-)

Viji - I didn't know about the BC forum - sounds like it was a good one.

I had Herceptin, and it was a 30 minute infusion for me, I was lucky that I didn't have any problems with it, so didn't need it slowed down. Although - even with a 30 minute infusion, it still took over an hour, by the time they accessed the port, saline first and then after the H. If you don't have any problems with having the faster infusion, then 30 mins is a good way to go. If you have problems, then they will slow it down, or you could ask them to, to see if it makes a difference.

Yes - the heat wave is here too - although not as hot as Sydney!

    Trish, any news?

It was hot here yesterday mid thirties with a hot north wind but today its about seventeen and overcast with a very cool breeze..........weird. This time of year the weather is so unpredictable but soon enough we will all be complaining about the heat and wishing winter would arrive again.......lol.

Jenn, tke a deep breath and give yourself a break. Trying to sort the elders when you are so far away in not a very enviable job and I hope it all goes well for you and your Mum. Try to relax over the weekend as you start your new job on Monday(?) and that in itself is rather stressful so good luck!

Annette, when I rang my doc to get an anti B for this lurgy he commented that it had been five years since he had prescribed one for me. When I went to the Pharmacy to pick up the script I mentioned it to the Pharmacist as he asked if I'd had this particular one before and I told him what my doc said. He commented that I'm usually very healthy and my answer to him was I've always been very healthy and if it wasn't for the fact that I have BC and am getting older, I'd still be very healthy with a good immune system because I was always playing in the dirt and getting grotty as a kid......my mum used to despair as she would dress me to go out, turn her back for five minutes and I'd be filthy........she used to call me a dirt magnet........lol.......I guess she was right as I'm still the same. I just don't understand how it happens........lol.

Viji, with any of the treatments we receive it is important to let the nurses in the infusion rooms know how we are feeling and also letting the doc know how you went with your previous infusion before you even get to the infusion room that way things can be adjusted to suit your system and make things a little easier for you.

    Take it easy all!

i went to doctor yesterday, was in bed all weekend with this dam flu bug, have a right lung infection according to him, so i am on AB"S now. i re-booked into gym as i have not been for awhile. due to lots of things that i had to put it on hold. and i book in again and, i have to cancel due to this, abit embarassing really, the old girl can't cut the mustard. They would not want me there anyway. The ribs ache with the coughing as so the tummy muscles and it hurts to sneeze.

Chrissy, you still got your flu? hope you feel better,

Tammy, congats on your job. hope it works out well for you.
hope everybody is ok. i will go for a nap now. am very tired.

Karen, enjoy the new Jaguar and don't get into trouble with the police while testing out the new car :-)

My new job is at Macquarie Park in Sydney and as DH works nearby we should be able to car pool most days which will be nice. I will be working for a community based nursing service as Commercial Operations Manager which is a little different for me but I am looking forward to the challenge! I have a good feeling about it so I hope I'm right....

Hi girls! Still got my lurgy but it is clearing .......at least that part......lol. I have developed a really bad case of virtigo and that has had me laid up somewhat. It's only been the last two days that I feel reasonably comfortable to read a little and to post as prior, any eye movement at all would send me scurrying to the bathroom like a drunken wench bashing into walls all the way there...........funny to watch not funny to do. Doc says, yes I saw my doc yesterday, DH drove me to the city for that, that I have picked up a virus that has caused the virtigo and deafness on the left side. All I can do is rest and wait till it resolves itself but I'm beginning to get very frustrated as this crap has been goin on for over two weeks now and quite frankly, I'm over it!

Woohoo! Karen! I'll bet the excitement is just building and building for you! Enjoy every moment you are driving that lovely car!

Tammy! Congrats on getting that job! How exciting for you!

Trish, any word yet from your doc? Girl you really have to start pushing to find out just what is going on.

Annette hope you are feeling better! I've done a round of AB's and am about to start on the second one as I'm still coughing in fits. Don't worry about the gym, you will get there soon enough but I do know the dealing. I have a gym membership but haven't been for a good six months.........oh well, now the wedding is done I may be able to get back to my normal routing and that includes visiting the gym.

    Have a good day all!

Tammy - great news! Congratulations :-)

Chrissy and Annette - feel better soon...

Had an appt with my onc today. He's really lovely. No concerns and although my bone density came back as good he isn't able to move me to an AI because my FSH level is still too high so I'm still not totally in menopause.

I had an exam this evening and it was our first open home tonight. About 11 families came through. Some interest according to the agent.

Start my new job tomorrow! Bit nervous :-)

good luck Jenn with your first day at the new job.........don't be nervous as I'm sure you will do just fine. Hope your house sells really quickly for you! Great that as far as your onc is concerned you are doing fine in that department as well..........hopefully your FSH will drop soon and put into full menopause so you can change to an AI.

Tammy, I have no intention of getting back to the gym until I feel way better than I do right now...........sorry if I gave the impression that I was going soon.

Right now I can't even drive let alone exercise..........today I used my stick so I could go to the shop but got as far as DH's shop and burst into tears I felt so bad. I gave him the shopping list and made my way slowly home again. Right now I'm in my pjs and ready for bed.

Tammy - great news about your new job too!

Annette - feel better soon (((hugs)))

Well I went back to my GP yesterday. He has spoken with a gynie, who won't see me as my U/S showed nothing. Dr seems to think that it's my back that's causing the problem, and even though my chiro has been working to make sure we rule that out, Dr doesn't think it's anything more sinister. I do have arthritis in my back (from the Arimidex) so - who knows, he could be right. He will be talking to my onc though to see if I should have a CT or some other scan to rule out mets from ILC. ILC can come back in the abdominal area, although it's not that common. My ILC was pretty small and not a high grade, so it shouldn't be that, but we all know of women with grade 1 very small tumours that went on to have mets.

I'm totally in the hands of my GP as my referral to the onc ran out in May and I don't see him again till January. If it is from my back, then that's fine, I can deal with that, but I want to know what's causing it. My bowel movements are fine, I'm not nauseous, no burning on urination and it doesn't hurt in that area when pressed on, so we've ruled out a whole heap of other things. The other small things that have been worrying me, have explanations that I'm satisfied with (I'm getting old lol) so will have to wait and see what the onc thinks when GP talks to him.

If my bs was still alive, I'd be going to him, but I don't have a bs anymore, my care is primarily with my GP. I've been going to this guy for almost 20 years and I have confidence in him. But it's a bit frustrating at the moment that I'm in pain and he doesn't seem to be able to help... I can't keep taking strong painkillers for it - I'd be asleep at work all day lol.

If it is a nerve from my spine, then that's not easily treated either apparently, but at least I'll know it's not mets!

Trish have you considered a pain clinic? Hubby used one and they were fantastic, they dont just try and control pain. DHs liaised with doctors, specialists etc and got us some answers we wouldnt have gotten otherwise. Sometimes a fresh perspective is a great thing.

    Jenn have a great day.

Chrissy so sorry you have been feeling cruddy lately. X

Femera is treating me much better than Arimidex, aches have reduced already, thanks again. I am excited I am able to cut down to 4 days work next year.

    Hi all,

Trisha, I hate pain and often it is so hard to pin down. Hope you are feeling better. Will be in contact as I have finally booked tickets for Sydney. My cousin is looking forward to me spending a few days in Canberra.

At present I am fuming about losing pictures from my camera; computer tells me that the card is 3/4 full but it won't open. At least all the trip photos were safely off but it was MiL's 90th and had taken a lot of photos.Must go and get it sorted.

Jenn, hope all went well at work.

    Big hugs to all

Oh shit, Alyson, that is so annoying, when that happens. really hope you can recover them. at least you still got yr trip, but Mil ones are precious. Alyson there is a very bad flu bug raging in Northland, i was in Whangarei and have come back with it, was at mums 80th and she got it and people up there going down like flies with it and its a 2nd comer and worse the 2nd time, please be careful, as i know you have had pnemonia and it attacks the chest first. they say its in Auckland abit too, i would hate to think you got it.
Trish. i do hope you wil be ok and Jenn, hope Job went well.

chrissy, sorry you feel so bad, ita a pain these bugs, i know, the one here is bad in the north of the island, am really hoping Alyson does not catch it, or like Jenn's mum. Anyone who gets it, they have the flu injection here, but its only covering certains strains of it. i hope you get over this lurgy soon. I reckon if anybody is feeling fluish or they could be coming down with something, they should stay home, there were at least ten people who came down with that flu from mums party, 4 being elderly. its normally the contagious time. DH has the ultra sound scan tomorrow and i am even wondering if i should go with him, but i am passed the contagious stage. gotta be careful we don't compromise others and cause them to be sick. just hope you get over this soon Chrissy.
