Chrissy, wonderful to see you well enough to come in here, been missing you. Kate congratz on the half way mark, hope you feel fine. dont worry about the Neulasta, I dont remember it hurting, but do make sure you gently rub the area afterwards so you dont get a lump. Waiting with bated breathe to hear Racy's good news. Good news is always so very very welcome.
Hope everyone else is doing well. Tooth isnt hurting as much now, but face is still way swollen so am hoping it starts to ease off soon

Hi Folks,
Wondering if I can jump onto this thread and say hello. I finished chemo last March, and Herceptin in November and now have tamoxifen, and a dairy free and plant-based diet left in the armoury. My big gap is that I lost my really helpful and supportive oncologist to another hospital in December and am now feeling like there's no-one who 'knows my case'. Her departure also left me with a choice of 4 male oncologists as replacement - not fun when you're not in the mood to be groped by a man on a Monday morning. I wish hospitals would take patient perspectives and needs into account when making HR decisions. A choice of four blokes isn't a choice at all in my mind. Oh well....

Hi All...thought I'd drop in and say hi to all and wish you all well with your treatments. Mine is quite sometime ago as I finished chemo, rads and herceptin in 2004...I was on the HERA trial for herceptin.
I'm going well and have just had a risk reducing hysterectomy and BSO (ovaries removed) due to strong family history so got some time at home...
Cheers Sharon
West Australia girl:)

Welcome Sydneybased, I am taking a guess that you are in Sydney? But you may call somewhere else home? Pracising my psychic powers lol.
Ladies, you know I am anxious about posting details through which someone could identify me. So, I will be brief in saying that I met with people from work today about me resuming. Basically the arrangement that I will be working under is very favourable. The workplace that I will be at is a small team of 6 in the entire office; all exceptionally nice. It's not my usual workplace but a different office in the same organisation. Basically they said they have created a job just for me and I can stay there as long as I like, there is no expectation for me to go back to my appointed position ever, no pressure on me to get another placement until I find another job that is a good fit for me. It is possible that this placement could become permanent. I won't go into all the details but it is a vote of confidence in me and the workplace is an ideal fit for my skills and personal convenience etc. I start on Tuesday.
Must go now as I have to email the news to a friend.

Hi Sharon, nice to see you here. I think I read in your profile that you may live in the outback?
We have another Sandgroper here who will introduce herself shortly.0 -
Hi ya Sydneybased and Aussie-Sharon welcome to the group! A few of us are through treatment and a few who aren't. I'm in SA but don't hold that against me.....lol.
Sydneybased it's awful when you are so used to one doc and they move on and it really is a shame that you can't move on with them as having to go through getting to know a new one and vice versa is a right pain. I really feel for you.
Sharon you go girl! 10 years! Good on you! Having a big op like that will leave you laid up for a while, but never mind, jump in here and we'll keep you company!
Love n hugs. Chrissy

Congratz Racy, what a wonderful achievement, so nice to be rewarded for working so hard. Welcome Sydneybased and Sharon, great to have you onboard with us. Sorry to be brief but feeling the lack fo sleep for the last 48 hours so am going to try and get some sleep, but had to pop into my favorite thread first. Can someone say addict lol

Yay Racy :-)

Yep, Sydney-based is based in Sydney! Looks like the Aussie team are all over the place..... geographically speaking. Shame, would love to hang out and stick two fingers up at the Big C with you all.

Oh Racy, this is really a happy story to read, so well done and yay for you. I know you must be thrilled to bits that it's all worked out so well for you. I'm thrilled for you.
Wow two newbies to our boards (sadly not to BC) so welcome to you both.
Sharon - I'm the sandgroper but for the last year only so I don't feel bona fide yet. I've lived mostly in Canberra and Hobart. I am now in Bunbury. As someone who will embark on Herceptin in a couple of months its inspiring to read about your good experience with it.
And YES Lyndal - this is another addiction of mine LOL xx

For the new girls, we are organising a get together in Adelaide for the weekend of the 23rd June. There is a thread about it as well but would love you to come as well.

Sydneybased: I'm the only one in Sydney. Live in the north, work in the very inner west and that is also where I am having treatments. I like coffee (in the 2nd and 3rd week after tx) and hanging out :-)
Where did you have your treatments? I chose mine because I work in oncology clinical research and knew they were up with the latest there...
I got to meet Trish and hang out a few weeks ago when she was in Sydney. It was really nice to be able to do that.
regards Jenn0 -
It's 5.00am on a Saturday.. regular crowd shuffling in - heck don't know why Billy Joel's song popped into my head as I was sitting here, but I noticed Jenn was here at the same time, sydney time of course.
It's a weekend - why are't we snoozing? Bod must have just had enough rest. I was in bed dead tired at 9.30 last night. I'm feeling fine now. Have taken my emend. Today is going to be a good day. I hope it is for everyone else too.

Hi Kate, Hope you do have a great day!
Yes, I was awake from about 4.30am :-( This week I've been waking early with a very dry mouth...
The tiredness: I've noticed it much more this second round. Now in bed by about 8.30pm most nights which is making me feel very old instead of my sprightly 46...
We had our first family portrait session, since the kids were in preschool, back at the end of October before this all happened. The photos are so expensive that we chose what we wanted back then (large canvas print of the family and A4 sized photos of each of the 3 kids) and we've been paying them off on a sort of layby since then. Tony went and collected them the other day. They look great although it's hard seeing me just a few months ago 10kgs heavier and with my long hair. Today the plan is to go and find frames for the A4 ones and then figure out how to hang them above our newly renovated stairway.
Hope everyone else has a lovely day too!

Wow Jenn, I hope the 10 kg weight loss is a positive and not just 10 kg of hair gone.
Kate, I was up till midnight watching the Interdominion harness racing carnival in Perth. It's the major annual harness racing event in Australasia and goes for two weeks.
I was up early this morning to go to my volunteer job - cleaning at my local church.
Going out soon to buy some new clothes for my new job - dressing to impress.
Then watching races this afternoon.

Good lord! I don't get on here for a little while and everything goes mad. We've had severe thunderstorms (hence no computer on) and had the mother of all storms yesterday. The Monaro Highway (the road I use to go home on) was flooded about a km away from here yesterday afternoon and for a little while I thought I was going to be stuck on the side of the road all night. Luckily I got through - it's ok I didn't do anything silly - the water was only up to halfway up a wheel sort of height, but I think they closed the road an hour or so later until it went down.
Our place is a tad waterlogged now - had 41mm yesterday afternoon in just a couple of hours - and that's on top of the regular 20mm we've been having all week.. We have enough water already, it's time to dry out! But - more storms and rain expected today and tomorrow.
Welcome Sydneybased and Aussie Sharon. So nice to add to our little group of Aussies :-)
Glad everyone is doing well - Racy CONGRATS!! Well done you.
I'm feeling great again too - my tooth is back to normal - still taking antibiotics, but will now have to take the next step and make an appointment to see a dentist. I'm a dentist phobe lol don't even know if that's a word, but I'm terrified of them, so just making an appointment is the next BIG step.
Trish

Ah Jenn, I would be so happy if I lost weight... it would be a big bonus for me. YOu'd think ONE good SE could come my way?
I am seriously avoiding any photos at the moment. I had contacted a professional photographer just befor my dx as we haven't had a family portrait taken in about 20 years. But we also want our 4 dogs included too, so this guy does great shots on sand-dunes near the beach. I pictured us all wearing white and beige with aqua blue highlights (jewellery etc) very natural and beachy. I told him there was no hurry as it is wedding season now and he said March or April. It's not going to happen now I don't think. firstly we can't afford that sort of luxury now on one wage, and also if I could afford it I would want to do the photos justice and feel that I was looking my best. Sadly I feel the total opposite. So that is a goal for next year. It is our 30 wedding anniversary in April next year so that would be a great occassions to celebrate + I should have my own hair too. God willing all the pups are still with us. Still I have heaps of pics of them, it would just be nice to get one all together.
Thanks for the tip Racy about taking the neulasta out of the fridge 30mins before hand. I have the cleaning bug big time at the moment, so I must remember to do it in half an hours time. I'm so carried away with polishing, vacumming etc.. I know this energy burst won't last so I'm making hay while the sun shines

Trish so glad to hear that your tooth pain has subsided and you are feeling a whole lot better. I'm with you on the Dentiphobia but thank good ness the only thing that usually needs doing to mine is a check up and clean and don't I breathe a sigh of relief each time I hear that!......lol
Kate glad you are feeling okay today and hope it lasts for you. I wish I could find the energy to have a cleaning frenzy! My house sure does need a whirlwind go through it.........lol........but this whirlwind has run out of puff. Good luck with your Neulasta and hope it doesn't give you too much trouble.
Jenn I wish I could have gotten my DH to have a family portrait but he never would and at this stage of our lives he wouldn't either, besides, it wouldn't be complete as my son would be missing. The last good pic I had taken was with my two daughters when DD2 won the Personal Trainer of the Year award.
Hope you all have a great weekend!
Love n hugs. Chrissy

Kate - we had our dog along for the photos too and he is front and centre in our family one... :-)
The 10kg loss: lost the first 4kg from stress after diagnosis and through the surgery - although I had lumpectomy so no weight loss from that. Then after surgery I was determined to get my weight down some before chemo so started power walking with a vengeance again.
I actually worked for Weight Watchers for a number of years in the early 2000's but after going to work full time and studying towards a degree part-time 20kgs had crept on and I'd gone from a size 8-10 to an 18 :-( Now back into 14-16's and trying to hold onto the current weight which is going to be a challenge. Managed to keep walking after the first treatment but after this second one only just managed to get out for a first walk today - two weeks after treatment :-(

Had the shot - don't know who was more nervous, me or my dear SIL she was shaking like a leaf and I was nearly hyperventilating just from the anticipation and seeing her hand shake so much. We had a half dozen false starts which just compounded the nerves but it didn't hurt a bit and we were both laughing our heads off afterwards.
Jenn and Kylie. This is something interesting I learnt from the MO yesterday. I mentioned to him that I a had a very bad day emotionally mid way through my last cylce and it came out of the blue and was quite severe and not just in my nature. I said the feeling really frightened me and I asked him if chemo could cause it. He didn't bat an eyelid at all and said that chemo can play sudden havoc with our hormones, with sudden drops in eostrogen levels and we all know what that can do to us. So now that I know that, if it happens again I just have to remind myself that this is a bad side effect of chemo - there is a physical cause for this and it is not me just being overwhelmed and despairing. I just thought I'd mention it to you to in case you find yourself in a very bad place suddenly

Guess what girls - I found an hotel - finally!!!! I decided to check if my Social Club at work had any deals and they do - for Mantra and Breakfree Hotels. Well, I can have a studio apt in the Mantra on Frome for $109 pn (all of the cheap hotel sites were at least $199) - free bus close by and good food close by. We stayed in this street before, at the Majestic Roof Garden, and we liked the location. SO, after many many hours of searching, I'm going to book it. It doesn't matter where you others end up staying, it will be easy for me to meet you with the free bus.
Welcome SydneyBased and Sharon.

The Aussie Breast Cancer Forum had a gettogether in Adelaide a couple of years ago. A lot of the girls stayed at the Minima which was very cheap and we had our afternoon and night function at Carclew. I think there were about 30 of us.We have had 2 national gettogethers in Melbourne...one in Adelaide and 1 in Brisbane. From time to time we have lunches in each state for the locals. It is amazing to catch up especially for a weekend. We've found everyone to be just as we imagined them to be. You will have a ball.
Trish...I have had lots of tooth problems lately and I must admit the dental visits although not pleasant didn't hurt. I don't even mind the injection as I know thats going to kill the pain.I found a new dentist who is cheaper and affiliated with my health fund so I got a 70% rebate as well so not even that part was painful!
Hugs to all ...esp. those going through treatment

Wow this is a busy thread of Aussie chatter:) would be great to come to Adelaide and catch up but not sure I'll be based in June...guess you'll keep us posted on the info?
Kate the Herceptin for me was a lot easier to tolerate than the chemo, so fingers crossed you will be the same...I'm coming up married 30 years this month, can't believe it really time has just slipped by so quickly but if you start thinking of all the things you've done in that time it's a lot of memories:-) I'm sure you will make beautiful photos when you get around to having your portraits...I am so happy to have family shots at various stages of our life journey to look back on. Some of my favorites are with a short hair do!
Wishing you all well
Sharon

Bloody Hell - now Steve wants to come. It would be very appropriate for him to meet our new grandbaby after he/she is born, but I was hoping for a relaxing time away from him
0 -
Just went back to the Mantra web site to see if it would cost any extra for Steve as I had only entered 1 adult and wow - the price I got is now sold out - lucky I booked it when I did.
Now he says Annie and I should have the time alone and he doesn't want to intefere with our get together, so I might be safe. He could come for part of the time and see the baby and play golf with his friend down there - we'll see.
