    www.bcna.org.au  you will be able to order online and it shouldn't take long to get to you...it is a great resource and it's been developed since I was diagnosed.  

    Their webpage may have a few listings of groups and services in your area might be worth a look at.

    Hope it helps and so sorry you haven't been given any support, that's a very poor show from your Breast Nurse...

    Lamb was on special at Coles -  is that why we're all having it tonight :) At least you don't have to hang around in the kitchen while it's cooking. Oh, I wish we had aircon up there.

    Errrr Ummmmm.....did I say I'm not dressed either?......lol........tea for me is all sorted as I made home made rissoles last night and there is still enough for tea tonight..............yipeee!  So salad and cold rissoles it is!...............Lazy, lazy day here DH has taken the car and gone to visit a friend and I'm relaxing under the ceiling fan in the cool..................Love it!

    23rd is cool for me!  In fact I've already told DH I will be away that weekend.

    Sue at least you will have company at the hotel as your DH is coming and as you say, there may be added benfits................lol.

    I can't remember if I got a pack or not but I do remember a volunteer coming to my room after surgery and giving me a little silk pillow and the bra fitter from Myers giving me a front closure soft sports bra and softy to fill it out until I got the prosthetic.  I did have a BC nurse while I was in the hospital but nothing once I left. My first 6 years with this disease was spent searching to talk to other people who had been there and done that and trying to figure out if what I felt was normal.............I only wish I could have found this site then as it would have been so much help.

    Chrissy - there are definitley benefits - he does like to eat well :)

    I got a cushion in hospital, but that was it. I think lumpectomies probably don't require that sort of consultation. I never had the need to contact a nurse.

    Sue, it is the Choices nurse who comes to the ward with the pink cushion and they also make the bags for drains. They are not 'alternative'. They are highly integrated with the clinical care at Wesley.

    They were a great resource to me when I was feeling very alone.

    Racy - I only remember seeing them the first time. The second time, they didn't come near me, then again I wasn't there that long.

    Thanks all, I did go online and order the pack this afternoon :-)



    My surgery was also "just" a lumpectomy day surgery so no in hospital stay for me so maybe that's why I didn't see anyone.



    My girlfriend picked me up and took me to lunch and shopping to buy a couple of pretty scarves to wear around home (I asked her to come with me). Found four lovely scarves and happened to find two soft seamless singlet tops (planning ahead for rads!) and a new shirt and funky "over" shirt for autumn/winter. We finished off with coffee and something sweet. My energy lasted and it was a lovely afternoon :-)

    Jenn your afternoon sounds like it was great and really happy to hear that your energy lasted for you.  Take some pics of your purchases and post for all to see please!

And you all would have had a laugh with my friend and I - we went into Forever New which is usually a place for shopping if you are 15-25yrs and do you know what the latest trend in hats is for winter?..... Chemo style turbans!!!!!!

    6.00pm and I never got out of my pyjamas. Not a good day today after all. I just feel awful. But... as I can't stop thinking about a certain peach crumble, tonight we are having apricot chicken for dinner. Bye for now... xx

    Kate - don't feel guilty - you deserve to be lazy after all that cleaning :)

    The lamb was great but the heat in the ktichen wasn't - we ate out on the back deck.

    Hi ladies, Im exhausted just from reading about all youve been doing. Completely agree with Racy about the Choices staff, I had one visit me the first day after the op to tell me all the wonderful programs they have and to give me a little fake boob and drain bag to take home. I get stuff in the mail from them all the time. Havent taken them up on anything other than the LGFG course, but one day I probably will as a lot of the activities they do look like fun.

    Huge welcome to our kiwi friends. I too had my honeymoon in NZ, Queenstown ski holiday to be precise. Great memories even though the husband turned out to be a loser lol.

    Im not going to know if I can make it in June till much closer to the time. So hard to work out what staff i will have at that time this early im afraid.

    Hope your all feeling well and hope to catch up again soon.

    I'm also going to have to see how my finances are closer to June.  I really want to go and meet everyone who can be there, but we are now living on one wage, and mine has been drastically reduced.

    Airfares don't seem to be as low as they once were :-(

    Trish - that's why I booked it recently - the cheapest flight for Qantas was $175 and going fast. I thought that was reasonable for the distance.

    Yes Sue - I looked at the fares - and I can get a one way fare forr $175, but then the cheapest fare home was $230+ and at these prices I can't justify a weekend away at the moment.  It would be at least $600 for the weekend.  I could manage that 2 years ago, but now is a different story.

    Hi Aussies, we are planning to venture across the Tasman again this year, think we might go to Adelaide then back through Sydney. Will let you know Chrissy.

    Have spent the last hour scanning photos as its my brother's birthday and posting them on facebook for him, what are younger sisters for? He lives on the Gold Coast where we have been several times. Last year drove from there to Cairns - don't think I will do that again but loved Cairns.

    Hi All...lamb had to wait my sister in law bought us over a Sri Lankan curry :) was very nice so lamb tonight.  I'm recovering well from my hysterectomy and getting out and about each day for a little longer...try to walk to the next sign post or street lamp.

    Hope everyone had a great weekend.   Is anyone a member of "Dragon's Abreast" I so wish we had one over here as I've been wanting to join and have a go ever since I was diagnosed and saw an Australian Story on them...amazing:)

    Kate hope you are feeling better today.

    Sharon I checked out the bcna site but it wasn't much good for me at all.  I do remember looking at it when I was first dx'd back in 2003 and again found nothing that I needed.  I think it caters more for people on the east coast and in the cities as do most things and country sort of gets a bit forgotten when it comes to services.  I spent hours one day trying to get some home help when I was first dx's stage IV as the mets were in my arm and I needed a pin put in it to stop it from shattering, but every agency I contacted either didn't service this area or I was too young.  I even registered with paliative care hoping I could gain access to something through them but again......nope!  I've sort of lost faith in all of the so called services for the terminally ill............if there are there, I sure would like to see some proof.

    Racy it's always been the bain of my life that a hat that suited me was always the turban style............thank goodness I don't wear hats and I'm too old to worry if it suits me or not any more so I wear anything if one is required....................Lol.

    Hi Chrissy... I am so relieved to say that YES I am feeling OK. Probably about 80%, so I am off to do my LGFB course. You know my BC nurse said that the 1st treatment of FEC is the worst whereas others who have had it, say it gets worse. I'm just watching and waiting but so far being day 4 I am a lot better than I was last cycle at day 4.

    BTW your grandchildren are just scruptiously deliciousLaughing xxxx

    Golly - do I have chemo brain? aren't they on FB?? Apologies if I have the wrong Gran, anyway I am sure yours are delicisous little creatures too - aren't they all? Well I don't have any yet but I'm loving the idea of being a gran one day - you know what they say? having grandkids is your reward for having children. I like that.

    Little is one thing these boys are not!  They are all taller than I am and I'm 5'4"............never felt short until my grands grew................hahahahaha!

    Alyson, I'm in Brisbane just north of the Gold Coast. I holidayed at Cairns last year and loved it.

    I have done a cruise around NZ in 2009 but we missed Milford Sound due to bad sailing weather down there and went through the Cook Strait instead. The weather was great and it didn't rain the entire time we were away. Obviously it's very like Australia culturally. I liked the way the Maori culture and western cultures are integrated. It was a wonderful holiday and two of my favourite places visited were Napier and the Bay of Islands.

    I loved the Bay of Islands too - but it rained nearly the whole time we were there.  We figured that's just NZ! lol
