Blessings that quilt is lovely! and I don't recall seeing it before....lol. I like the idea of the giant rikrak for a crib quilt edging it just adds that little something.
I haven't done anything but work on the snowflake crochet blanket and I am just two rows of edging to complete. It will fit a single bed or as a foot throw on a king size bed. I will post a pic when I am done.

DD1s quilt pieces sitting on the table.
Love all the giraffe stuff.

Walked into DD's place tonight and this is what I saw.

Love the color for your DD's quilt Aly and I can't wait to see it all put together! That giraffe is just too cute!!!

What a project Alyson!! Who cut all that?? I have NEVER pre-cut an entire quilt. I go pattern- or row-by-row. Sometime I get bored....

I cut the entire thing before starting. The only time I didn't I thought it was a huge pain in the butt. Much as I hate the long cutting day it makes me happy to be able to just sit down & sew. Plus the fabric gets wrinkled again and I like being able to keep my sewing room tidy & hate having to keep dragging stuff out.

Oh sure, that is the LOGICAL reason to do that Melissa, but I just do not have the patience!! My bad???

Took two days to cut and organise then I left them where I could see them. Removed some of the colours and cut replacements. Think its about right but still change some blocks as I sew them. Hopefully will get blocks done this week but tend to get extremely sore after a couple of hours sewing. I tend to sew quite a number of strips or blocks then press the seams before sewing them together.Once I get the blocks done I will put them out on the floor and work out colours, pick them up in rows and start putting the whole together.
Barbe with the grandmother's garden i am sewing and cutting as I go and with DD2's quilt it was done in bits because that was a quilt that grew. I had made the centre when she saw it and asked me to turn it into a full quilt. I even had to take some squares out to add in new fabric.
A friend who belongs to the Quilters guild has straightened out some of my techniques because as she said I did things by instinct and though I got things reasonably right and there where much easier ways of putting things together. As a result my cutting and sewing are much more accurate.
I have started collecting fabric to make DS and DDiL a qult for Christmas. This is a much harder thing as DiL likes very different colours to me and there house is very monochromatic. I am not doing black and white but navy and a very pale cream. Think it will look stunning.
Happy stitching

Navy and pale cream WILL look lovely!! Are you allowed to add in a punch of colour somewhere??? Orange? Red?

I found the giraffe fabric at Hobby Lobby of all places! I went through most of the fabric stores in town and was about to give up on buying it in person. Then I thought about seeing the fabric at Hobby Lobby and went there. I was so excited about it. The fabric was made for Hobby Lobby so I know I could get more online if I need it. I took what they had, 6 1/8 yd. The fabric is dark brown and cream and we are using a coral set of fabrics. I still want to find a brown print to go with it.

Coral and brown with cream will be beautiful!!! Can't wait to see what you come up with.

Looking at Blessings' quilt I am thinking giant brown rick-rack might be just the touch.

I have been practicing with color combos with the giraffe embroidery.

Oh Meece, those fabrics are perfect and the embroidered giraffes just gorgeous!! Lucky little munchkin to have such a beautiful nursery!
0 -
Meece, very nice. When do you have it done?
0 -
Little "Thumper" is due in February.
I am thinking of a modified log cabin with the embroidery in the center blocks.

I can't wait to see the finished quilt and the finished nursery!

Still thinking on this, I don't want the animal print to over power it.

Meece I'd put the embroidery on the white to make it pop against the corals and quieten the animal print. Do a mock up and see what you think.
0 -
Too funny Chrissy! I was going to type that too! Do the embroidery on cream, really, as the white might be too stark.
0 -
Lol Barbe, great minds think alike. I was just looking at the selection that Meece posted earlier and the trial embroidery on the white. Rather than cream, I'd do it on a 'soft white' which is not as stark but following the dividing color in the animal print.

are you putting sashing between blocks?
0 -
Yes, there will be sashing. I was thinking the giraffe print as the sashing and getting at least two more coral fabrics for the squares.White and even soft white look stark. The cream embroidery of the giraffes is the exact color of the cream in the giraffe print. I was thinking of a cream on cream print to put the giraffes on. The giraffes are outlined in black so no matter the color of the background they will stand out.
I so want to start embroidering today, but to go buy more fabric would be at least a two hour ordeal. I think I plan a shopping spree at lunch tomorrow.

Took a pineapple quilt class today using Creative Grids special ruler. Lots of fun. Here are some blocks in varying stages of completion & one finished one

very nice. Love the colors.

Wow Melissa! That block is gorgeous! I so love what you do with color and it show so well in your work. What, may I ask, is a Creative Grid special ruler? I have never heard of it.......can you post a pic of it please?
Can't wait to see the quilt with the finished blocks!

Gorgeous colour as usual Melissa, well done!!

Thank you! I think it is going to be so pretty.
Chrissy, it is a very neat pineapple block tool that trims all the angles as a straight line and keeps your block square after each row. I am not a fan of a lot of specialty rulers, but this one is really neat & easy to use.

Wow Melissa! I've never seen one of those before! I guess I now need to go check out a quilt store and see if I can find one......sure would make keeping the block square easy. Thanks for that!
