Sheila, that is smart about making the border wider to be able to quilt in a hoop! I've never heard that but it makes SO much sense it's a wonder it's not a "rule"!!!!

    Very nice - looks wonderful!!

thanks everyone for the compliments. Please disregard the thread laying on the top and the blue wash out lines where I plan to quilt. It will really look better when I get it finished. It will have the same red as in the flag as the binding.

Barbe, The kit came with a blue directional print and not enough fabric to cut the required size and the print didn't run correctly on the side. I found the blue star print at my mom's stash and decided to make the border wider. I wasn't sure how wide I wanted it so we decided to cut it wider and after I had the main body quilted we could decide how wide I wanted it and quilt the border as wide as I wanted.

Sheila - I never saw the thread laying on top nor the blue wash out lines.  I read your post and actually had to go back and find them.  Would love to see it again when you are finished.  It is a gorgeous work in progress.

I didn't notice the thread or lines either, I only thought there was basting stitches.

Thanks for not noticing the problems that I saw and yes there are basting stitches in a grid through the entire piece that I didn't mention. I will post a completed picture. My aunt saw it on FB and asked me if it was my pattern or a purchased pattern. I will be taking her the pattern this summer when I go to visit in Ohio.

I was sitting at my desk yesterday at work.  I am currently a temp-to-hire, but think they will actually hire me.  I have no window in my office but right above my desk is a blank wall.  I was thinking about making some small wall quilts to switch out seasonally if I get the job.  The flag one would be perfect for July.

Meece it would be perfect for a small blank wall space and it isn't that hard to do. I just had to get inspired to finish it. It can be quilted on machine by freehanding the wavy lines in the flag and then around the outside of the flag and borders with a stitch in the ditch. I just decided to quilt it by hand.

I was so irritated this afternoon.  I went ot the fabric store on lunch hour and had to wait at check out for awhile while the cashier was away from the register.  I was thinking I might be cutting it close by the time she came back and wasn't watching everything she rang up.  I thought my total seemed a bit high and when I got back to work I checked it out.  She rang up three pieces of fabric that I didn't get and it totaled almost $30!  I called immediately and they told me no problem their scanner does that sometimes!  Shessh!  How many times doesn't it get caught?  And If my fabric was on a scan ticket, what ticket did she scan for the other three pieces?

Now I can't "play" with my new fabric because I have to bring everything back to the store tomorrow to get credit! They want to see what I did get.

Meece - I hate it when you get a cashier that does not pay attention to what they are doing.  I would ask the same question - How can you ring up fabric that is not on a scan ticket?  You are right, how many times does a mistake like that not get caught and who is pocketing the money?

Or are they pocketing the fabric by having someone else pay for it?

Unfortunately, we all have to be very careful when handing over money for anything.  I've started a new project, a knitted throw for my DD2.  When I've completed a few squares I'll post a pic for you all.

    Meece - Good point.

chrissyb - Can't wait to see pictures.  I envy people who can knit.  I could never get the count or size right so I gave up.  I think I will stick with quilting.

I knit so tightly that I have trouble getting the needle into the stitch!!! Don't know why I CAN'T JUST RELAX...you KNOW>?????? Yell

The fabric store probably have certain sku's by the register that are rung up often...like batting or whatever, and if the clerk isn't paying attention, she runs the wand over it and it picks it up! Were the fabrics different or the same Meece? Were they generic or named?

Hi Girls - I already know some of you from other threads and thought I would join in. I mainly stick to cross stitch but am working on a story quilt at the moment - my mother bought it when she was in Alaska. I've got it to the point of joining the blocks together but a new cross stitch arrived, so I haven't gotten back to it. Here's a link of what it will hopefully look like when I finish.

Years ago I made a sampler quilt for our bed. It took me a year to make it. I'll post a picture of it when I put it on the bed when the weather gets a bit colder, so you can see it.

LOVE all things Pineneedles!!! And Piecemakers Calendars. I made the barn one and it hangs in my brothers house. He saw it hanging in my store and stood there with his mouth hanging open and said "You're a f&$^$ing artist!" So I gave it to him. I value it over $2,000, but I loved him for the statement. I have little spider webs and fence wire free-motioned onto it, I just had a ball!! When I took it to a guild where I was the quest speaker, I had it draped over my table and heard one of the members say that it was a "printed fabric panel". I was SO thrilled to be able to prove it wasn't!!

Wow, suepen, what and undertaking!  I can't imagine the time it would take.

Barbe, the three fabrics were all individually labeled and had diferent yardage measurements.  That is what makes me wonder about it.

Meece - it's very time consuming as everything has to be traced on fusible webbing, then cut around, then ironed on to the fabric and cut around again, then the block assembled. It's quite useless as it isn't big enough for a bed and you could never wash it. I guess it's for hanging on a wall or something. I will try to finish it though. Then I might give it back to my mother :) I found a lady online who does professional quilting and she's done a couple of these and she begs the designer to stop. I must say, I've had it sitting around here for many years and it's only because I'd been off work, that I started it again.

I made my trek back to the fabric store at lunch today.  I didn't have any problems with the credit, but found she had also charged me a higher price for a remnant.  In all they returned 35 dollars!  I will not be in such a hurry on further buying trips.

Meece - Too bad you even had to go back to the fabric store - you shouldn't of had to go in the first place and then to get 35 dollars back.  Hooray!  That could buy more fabric for your project.  I am a fabric store junkie - would rather go there than clothes shopping.  LOL

Fabric over clothes ANY TIME!!!! Good job Meece! They should have matched that amount in a store credit...

Barbe - I agree - a store credit would have shown good faith.

I have another 5 yard quilt top done.  This time I used all 5 colors.  I have it pinned right now getting ready to baste it for hand quilting.  When I get the pins out of it, I will post a pic.  I still have the batik quilt in progress - need to finish hand quilting that one.

I have to get back to the nursery decor.  Baby boo will be here in about 6 weeks.  Boo was already around 5 lbs two weeks ago, and DIL said that the dr. said if boo hits 10 lbs he will do a C-section.  At 32 weeks Boo was the size of a 35 weeker!

I did one more GG block as were were on the road yesterday.  I told DH only about 59 ore road trips and the blocks will be done.

I too love everything PineNeedles. I think the store should have given you a store credit for double the amount since it was their fault. Yep, that would keep the customers coming, wouldn't it?

    Hey, I'm in France now!

Mais oui, I CAN HEAR YOU NOW! Avez-vous un accent canadien par hasard? Or boringly French?

Guess what projects I brought along to keep me "busy" for the next six months?

I am French Canadian and proud of it!!!

    You brought quilting squares????

I brought mostly knitting. Why? Because I left the most important packing for last! Namely, the packing of summer projects. That goes along with playing with all sorts of stuff, of course. So then I ran out of time and was getting kind of scared I'd have nothing. I threw all sorts of yarn into my case and one, only one quilting project. The one I've been "working" on for the past 11 or so years. I guess this time I really won't have any excuses. It'll finally get done. I am mourning my beloved appliqué project. I didn't even take pictures of it! On the other hand, it'll be waiting for me, right? And I'll want to go back, right?

From what I understand, French Canadian is closer to the French of Louis whatever than modern-day French. If you take out the anglicisms, that is. Then again, the French have acquired many a strange phrase by misusing an English word here and there and saying it with their incredible accent. When I was buying a car last year I asked my friends how to say airbag. <Tu veux dire airbaaag, je pense?>
