Barbe - Still doing the hand quilting on the blue batik.  I had 63 squares to do.  Took a break from it.  My old hands do not aways want to cooperate.  I will do some more on it when I get back from my cruise.

Mece - Those are awesome.  I can't wait to see the finished project.

I have onlyu taken a quilting class and we had to hand piece and hand quilt the work we did. I don't know how in earth my Grandma did all that she did. I probably won't go to quilting, more likely some clothing construction for very cute 8 mo old granddaughter. I will likely be constructing some specialty and overly cute items. I have a size 3 (I think) yellow dress to smock cut out from years ago in anticipation of having a DGD to sew for. I may need a refresher class to recall how to do picture smocking.

My Dd sugggested today that I buy a messed up Muffie or Ginny doll on ebay and convert her into a dress form for Muffie. I think her idea is pretty good since I just can't seem to find a premade one.

I will pop in over here if you don't mind.  I enjoy a beautiful quilt too. My DD is quilting on ravelry and enjoys it alot. I think the "rules" have softened up quite a bit and made it more fun.  The most stitches per inch that I could manage was 11 while the very good students were getting 8 to the inch. My DD just does it on the machine and doesn't give it a thought.

Have any of you been to the National Quilt Museum in Paducah KY. My fathers family is from the area and I have been there several times. It is worth a trip just to go see that museum. The displays are breath taking and provide a lot of insight into just how many ways the idea of a quilt can be interpreted.

I get my port out tomorrow! Yea yea yea!!!!!

Ginger. I machine piece my quilts then if they are wall hangings, I usually hand quilt them. I don't have the patience to hand quilt a bed size quilt. My mother does a combination of hand/machine quilting on her bed size quilts. She will machine quilt areas to stablize the quilt then hand quilt the details. When she gets the quilt to the point of working on the border, she will fold up the quilt with the area she is working on at the 'top' and put it in a large carry bag and take it with her to doctor's appointments and baseball games. She pulls out the area she is working on and leaves the rest in the bag.

congrats on getting your port out.

Ginger - Congrats on getting your port out today.  Come visit us anytime you like.

Sheila - I have hand quilted bed size quilts and depending on what the pattern is, I have done a combination of machine/hand quilt.  Some of it will be depend on what mood I am in at the time.  I have heard about the Quilt Museum and would like to get to KY one day to tour it.

Ginger, what is "quilting on ravelry"?

We don't make our own butter, or even milk that cows for the milk, so we don't "have" to hand quilty anymore! Only if we want to! Laughing

Ginger, congrats on your port removal today.  You don't have to quilt to come here and show your work.  The thread is for crafting, and I consider clothing and doll clothing construction fall right in here.  Love to see your work!

I have a bonnet, booties, and pinafore done in Shadow Applique that I made when I was expecting my daughter.  I still need to make a dress for it, but hopefully will have it ready for a grand daughter when one comes.

I will pull it out of the box.  It is where you take sheer fabric, some use organza, put an applique on the fabric.  Cover the fabric with another piece of sheer fabric, then stitch around the applique throught the top fabric.

I will go take a picture.

Right! But on a bonnet??? I save that kind of effort for a wall hanging. Can you safely wash those items?

Barbee Ravelry is a web site for sewers, knitters, crafters. My DD really enjoys the site and originally was on there as only a knitter but has begun participating in swaps thatinvolve making quilt squares and eventually quilts.  I love that my DD enjoys any sort of needle craft. I gave her a portion of a sheeps wool for Christmas a year ago for her to spin.

My last post was less than coherent. I think I was nervous about the port removal.  It is out, I am sore and not able to sleep.I will start Aromadex tomorrow. Will I ever sleep again?

So glad to find you all here.

    Love Ginger

Meece, she can wear them for a photo and then you put the photo in the shadow box as well! A Christening perhaps?

That's an idea.  I am having a feeling this one coming is a boy.  Maybe I am trying not to get my hopes up.  Yes girls and boys are equally wonderful, but you can't dress a little boy up in cutsie stuff you make as easily.

I made lots of hawaiian shirts and overalls for my three boys, but would love to make some frilly girly stuff.

What?!  Nobody has been doing anything crafty lately?

I now have 19 blocks done.  Now that I am back to work I went to a fabric shop on lunch hour and shopped.  I bought 1/8 yard pieces and some fat quartes that were on sale, a total of 16 different fabrics and I spent under $11!

Meece - What a bargain!  I do have a quilt in progress.  The  top should be done in the next couple of days and I can post a picture before I put it together.  I have several projects planned for this summer - hope I can get to them all.

I am bummed because I though I was going to make each block with no two fabrics the same except for the centers of the flowers, but realized I had doubled up on some, but with 80+ blocks, and over 60 left to make, I will make it do.

I have started hand quilting an American Flag wall hanging that, when I sewed the flag together, it was all in one large piece. After I had that pieced together, I sliced through the flag at random lenghts and slid them up and down 1/2 inch at a time and stitched together to get a rippling in the wind effect. then put two borders on all 4 sides to finish it off. It was a kit I purchased at either AC Moore or Michaels about 2 yrs ago and have just now got it to the point of quilting. I think I had the body of it completed about 3 months after I purchased the kit. I just couldn't get back into working on it until recently.

Barbe, Even though it isn't finished, I added it to my facebook quilts album, I will let you post it here for me. Finished measurements will be about 26 x 18. I cut the outer border (blue) wider than it will be finished so I have room for the quilt hoop and when I have finished the quilting, I can cut the border down to the finished size.
