Bonfire of the Goddesses

haven't been here in a while, I suppose that is a very good thing, but now I have some medical practice people to throw into the fire: today I went to have a small growth under my eye removed - nothing urgent, at my annual - April 1 my pcp thought it looked pearly ie basal cell - so had a dermatology visit in May, who wasn't sure but thought it should be biopsied but because of location, recommended a PS group, so I randomly picked a doc in the group - had a consultation in mid June - scheduled for removal today July 20 - so this was not considered by anyone to be time-sensitive. Doctor greeted me looked at the growth, said it had to come off and that I should schedule the procedure, I reminded him that I had done that and that this was in fact the day of the procedure - he pretended to remember by saying, hasn't it grown!!!?. So he did remove it, then the nurse says, no exercise for a week (news to me) and come back in a week to remove the stitches. I said I will not be here, a lot of back and forth and I was told that the stitches had to be removed next monday, not the Friday before and not the Friday after and I should go to an urgent care center. So I go home and look up urgent care centers in the section of the Adirondacks where I will be, they don't take my insurance and what would be $20 is now going to be $180 minimum. I called around to the primary practices in the area that accept my insurance and they won't remove stitches they didn't' put in even if I were their patient. I am just pissed because this could have been avoided if at the consultation in June I had been provided by the doctor, the nurse, the schedulers??? with information on the one week follow-up - I would have made the appt on a day that would have avoided this ONE 4 workday period the entire summer I will be out of town. I am hoping that someone in the group I will be vacationing with is/was a nurse who can take the stitches out. Oh, and about the biopsy results? one week.

Take a small pair of scissors (tiny) and delicate tweezers with you. And some triple antibiotic to put on after. Should be able to find a brave soul to remove the stitches. Good luck.

Jelson, That is ridiculous! I've removed a fair amount of stitches without any problems. I'm not a medical professional, but it is pretty easy to do. I even removed a stitch that didn't dissolve from my port.

Jelson,
Take a bottle of Jack Daniels too!
Just kidding! maybe your health insurance has an advocate who can help address this.
Your face is important and beautiful, although I would take stitches out in other places -like my cat's ear (did it) your face is different.

That is so stupid! I agree with the others here, see if you can save yourself the money and see if you can have someone you know do it.0 -
thank you ladies for your validation of my indignation!! I just watched a few youtube videos on stitch removal and it does not look difficult at all and I think there are no more than 4 stitches. however, this is right below my eye and I am a bit near sighted and will want to wear my glasses which kind of cover the area and I am a bit leery of holding, much less manipulating a sharp scissor and tweezer so close to my eye. So, I will bring the implements with me and see if I can convince someone to help me with this. If not, then off I will go to the urgent care center. I will report back on what happens. no matter what, I am looking forward to soothing myself afterwards with Monday's soft ice cream from Donnelly's an ice cream stand in the middle of the no where - they make it easy for their customers - only one flavor per day but you get to choose cup or cone!
