Jo, I am sending my best encouraging support to you today! Each day without a cigarette gets you closer to cleaner lungs and closer to that Kindle!

Badger, I quit wearing scents many years ago when working with pregnant women who were easily nauseated, and just never started again. And I quit wearing makeup after college for other reasons.  So I am completely out of touch with the cosmetic industry, but looked up that pink perfume.  Seems quite a controversy over it. Toss it in!

Tossing in the Tumor Board.  They are a bunch of docs who sit around and suggest a treatment plan based on the tumor type and grade, but do not take any PATIENT VALUES into their consideration when making their recommendation.  Consequently, the onc docs make their recommendations, and if we don't follow "protocols" we are being less than compliant, but I followed the recommendations as best I could and ended up with SEs that are definitely not consistent with my values and quality of life wishes.  If the MO had told me that one type of chemo was "almost as good as" the one that I got, but less toxic, I would have chosen differently, but she presented the T/C STATISTICS, as so superior in prolonging life and reducing recurrence that it was so logical to choose it, but she really minimized the risks.  She is a very kind woman and very sorry that I have had such a rough time, but she did not ask me about my values, and when I told her anyway, she just reassured me that these SEs rarely happened, wouldn't be that bad anyway, and if they happened, they were manageable. Not true on any of those counts. So sorry, I am venting again and am probably repetitious... please tell me if I am getting like my mother and repeating my story too often...

Linda, every time you repeat a story on this board, someone else learns so do not worry about repeating yourself.

Badger..I have the fan on in my room but it is only about 17 celsius tonight..that maritime wind keeps on moving through!...not 41C as it was in Toronto today...days like this I am even more grateful I am in the Maritimes

    hey Linda, vent away...

my docs were great but did not tell me "the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth."

Maybe to not scare me but still... we already won the BC lottery, why not the SE lottery too.

Sandee, that sounds perfect, 62 degrees F... if I leave now I can be there Sunday morning.

Sandee, I wonder if you could send your rain somewhere that needs it (like here) by throwing it into the magical bonfire of the goddesses?  For sure, we'd trade you some sunshine!

Linda -------Sandee's statement"Everytime you repeat your story on these boards, someone else learns , so don't worry about repeating yourself". That is a true as it gets,b/c we don't tell the same story on the same thread all the time. If one story said again can help someone else avoid a problem, it is so worth it.

To all----it breaks my heart everytime I see a story of how docs and nurses screw up. After 40 years in nursing, One of the things that is such a big part of my depression besides loosing my DH, Is all the errors we both experienced. Dozens. From major to minor.  I have always taught patients to be proactive and taught them things to keep themselves safe from failures in the system. I don't think I will ever get over either. It shattered everything I believe.

I quit smoking 13 days ago - yea for me!!! I want to throw in 40 years of one of the worst habits a person can have.  Already feeling so much better.  May have to threaten to throw in DH as he is still smoking and in the house to boot.  He will not budge and take it outside.  I have already told him my car is absolutely off limits for smoking.  I have a fuel efficient car and he has a gas gussling (sp) truck which he takes so he can smoke.

I know this probably isn't the right thread to post this, but i feel you ladies would answer my question if you know the answer.

went back to work june 8th , full time 40 hours.

this week i tell my doctors i work 40 hours, in no air conditioning, lifiting, pulling walking, and pushing.

doctors about shit their pants when they hear of this.

i tell them i want to work 32 hours a week, 4 days, and have 3 days off.

i get the letter written up

give letter to my supervisor, after, i call human resources to find out if this is adequate, and they say ok

do i have a leg to stand on? idaho is a right to work state. and i work for a big "orange" corporation.

if for some reason they tell me they can't accomodate me, do i have any rights?

thanks in advance, and i know it's not the right thread, but i do have someone to throw in the fire:

my bitch from hell scheduler. she thinks she owns the place. she is the reason i am even asking this question.

thanks-Angel (30 year old just barely cancer survivor, trying to get back into the workplace and support the household)

Linda - No - don't have the Kindle yet.  Kinda holding out for Christmas unless I can come up with something else for DH to get me.

Angel - I am not familiar with the labor laws in your state.  I would do some research and have my guns loaded and ready if your employer tries to pull a fast one and let you go.

hi Angel, I don't know much about this but am thinking that reasonable accommodation is part of ADA - the Americans with Disabilities Act.  Here's a link to the Idaho Dept of Labor. Maybe you can find the answer there.  Good luck!

badger - I take you were a smoker at one time and have quit?  If so, how long has it been for you? I wish mine would take it outside - he doesn't make it easy for me but I don't let him get the best of me.  The smell really doesn't bother me that much but I do throw out all kinds of hints that it would be better if he stepped out on the deck.

DuckyB~ let it burn!  Next time tell someone - no I thought it was a new fashion trend, saw it in a magazine - hopefully they'll be stunned into the appropriate silence!

Sheila - fitting rooms - let them burn - bad lighting and fun house mirrors!!!!

Me, I'd like to throw my desk at the office in ~  all the paperwork I have I could keep it burning for weeks!

Angel, you might also check into FMLA.  I did that, it is "flexible" so that I can take time off ONLY when I need it so I don't leave them short-staffed but can work with the schedules. And if you don't use the time, it doesn't count against you.

Ducky, I agree: it's the newest fashion! Where has she BEEN, under a LOG???

Tossing duloxetine into the fire this week - was supposed to help the neuropathy but didn't and just gave me a whole new set of SEs, so in it goes!!!

OK Jo, if you're holding out til Christmas for the iPad, you gotta get yourself something else for a reward!!! You rock!!!  Smile

Linda - I am saving the Kindle for Christmas.  DH wouldn't remember anything else.  Plus, my treat is going to be a trip to San Antonio for a long weekend by myself.  Gonna meet some of the other wonderful ladies that live in that area plus one super lady that is coming all the way from Australia to see the "Lone Star" State.  I am so excited about this trip - it will be at the end of Sept.

I'm tossing in the BS I saw recently. I posted about this on the Stage IV forum so I will just sum up that she basically told me that my fears are foolish, my QOL is not important and I'm close to death's door.

    Wrong on all three counts.

    In she goes!

Thank you. Now I feel better.
