Sheila - Of course you can.  Granny asked for the cake but she does not eat anything with sugar in it nor does she really eat chocolate.  Heck, I will join you in a slice.

I swore I would never wear pink again. That corporate rah-rah cheerleader stuff just leaves me cold.

Want to throw all my docs in today... saw a neurologist who didn't tell me anything new, gave me same recommendations as PCP, MO, and a couple others, all say "take more meds to treat your SEs, never mind, you can handle the additional SEs and might not get any and MIGHT feel better, but you won't actually GET better - that could take a year or two if at all. No one has seemed to hear me - I just want some type of normal life back! I asked her point blank today if she could continue HER career if she had the SEs I have, and she just evaded it.

    Thanks, I needed to ventilate.

Linda- what is your career? let's brainstorm! I get you about no new meds etc....my GP wanted to put me on an anti-depressent to help get through the meltdowns I had last week but honestly...the heart meds and a sleeping aid are 6 more things than I took last year...that is ENOUGH! who needs to worry about more side effects? not you and not me!

I'd like to throw in my pill boxes and pills.  Before BC I took 1 presc pill a day and a multivitamin.  Now I can't even count how my script pills and supplements I take.  I have to have a morning and evening pill box just to keep up with them.

Hadley your co-working def needs to be thrown in the fire.  If she escapes let me know and I'll chase her down for you.

granny - I can make one that is sugar free - I have had some really good cakes made with applesauce as the "sweetner".

I haven't thrown anything into the fire for some time but I have a big one - I am throwing in 40 years of smoking - all those cigs.  I quit 6 days ago and feeling much better already.  I am truly say that fighting BC was the hardest thing I have had to do in my life - quitting smoking was much easier that I ever imagined this time and I have tried many, many times in the past.  So in goes all the cigs.

Good for you, jo!!!!!  Quitting is hard, but when you reach the point of really wanting to and just get that will power working for you, it is not that hard at all.  I really think it is about taking control.  What are you gonna do with all that cigarette money?

Hadley, hugs and we'll all help with a good heave ho for you're coworker.

I'm up for stoking the fire hotter for chirpy pink ribbons and superficial breast cancer awareness.

My own wheelbarrow tonight goes to those in my life who ask how I'm doing when the real question is what drama can we gossip about

eli - Save it to go on a cruise next spring.  There is a new Carnival ship going out of Galveston and I would love to see and explore it for a week.  I love to cruise.

Jo, best of luck with the cigs! I hope it works for you.

Another incentive - every day take the amount of money you would have spent on cigarettes (in cash) and put it aside. See what special thing you can get for yourself after a year!

    All the best.

Jo, good work!! Hang in there - the first few weeks are the toughest. I also agree that putting that money into a jar somewhere and spending it for something you want is a great idea (my mom quit about 45 years ago, and still "saves" her cigarette money for fun things!).

Already looking at going on a cruise next spring.  I really want to go out and treat myself to a Kindle but I think I will wait until Christmas for that.  DH and I have a hard time buying for each other at Christmas - we are always just going out and getting whatever we want.

Jo, glad to know there are other couples who do the Christmas shopping for themselves! I usually get the DH something that he has pointed out, or else have to let him get it for himself.  Got him an iPad2 for his birthday, so now he has a new love, and I am on the sidelines for a few weeks, I guess. He downloaded the Kindle reader, and got a few freebie books. I have heard a lot of people really LOVE their Kindles, Nooks, and iPads!

So, how many packs of cigarettes would buy you the Kindle? Get it when you reach that point, and get something else for Christmas!!!!

I would like to throw the heart shaped pillow the hospital sent me home with to keep the seat belt from hitting me in my newly operated on chest and the anesthesiologist who over did the meds and made me nauseated as heck and the chicken soup for the breast cancer patient book that I got and a few other pamphlets, exercise, and assorted bull that filtered my way before, during and after I had my surgery.  Love burning it in the fire, it is our motto at work and we have burned a lot of stuff.

Linda - If I go by the number of  cartons, I could have a Kindle in about 2 1/2 weeks.   That is an idea though.

2Nan - This is definitely the place to get rid of all the crap.  Do keep in mind that anyone of us is willing to help you toss the stuff in if there is too much or the person(s) are too heavy to lift by yourself.

2Nan, I know what you mean by "assorted bull"! I am tossing in those "inspiring stories" of women who are news anchors and who worked fulltime throughout surgery, chemo, and radiation.  I hate that "I can do it, YOU can do it TOO!" crap, like the stuff that we see on all the diet commercials, money-and-fortune making commercials, etc. Well-meaning people gave me several of those books, and I thanked them graciously, but find reading them completely nauseating! Into the fire they go!!!

P.S. I am considering writing a book about "Surviving Cancer Treatment for the Non-Heroes" or "The Curmudgeon's Guide to Surviving Cancer Treatment" or something like that.  Tongue out  Other suggestions for a title are welcome! Wink

Jo, I truly think if you smoked that much, you SHOULD GET THE KINDLE SOONER rather than later!!!!!!! You will have EARNED it!!!!  Smile

Linda - Unfortunately, I smoked for 40 years.  Both my parents smoked and it seemed everyone I knew in the military smoked - of course, DH still does. I was a 1/2 pack a day smoker.  But not anymore.

2nan-hard to say if anestheiologist over did the meds. It could have been the nurse that could have kept you longer in post op with giving you antiemetics.  I know i was basically shoved out the door b/c it was there time to go home. if they gave you another shot they would have to monitor response and would have put them into overtime. A caring nurse wouldn't have given a shit about time. Only how you felt.---I'm a nurse still ---thats why I was always in trouble.

n3ypb, LOVE your book titles!  I also gag at those superwomen who do it all under duress.

Items I am throwing in the fire: all those little business cards that those in the medical profession love to press in your hand after they offer up life-changing news to you about your health.  Yes, those business cards, each with a different name, phone number and a different medical specialist: oncologists, radiologists, gynecologists, cardiologists, hospitals, mammogram centers, ect. ect. ect.

sas-schatzi it was definitely the anesthesiologist because my post op people kept me in there forever and couldn't give me enough attention, they let my hubby come back and sit with me and he even escorted me to my room when it was ready, which brings me to another thing I would like to toss in the fire and that is the people who delivered me to my room, if my hubby had not been there they would have tossed me onto the bed like I was a lump of clay, he couldn't believe how insensitive these people were  and I would also like to add that laying on an operating table for four hours sucks, I couldn't believe how incredibly painful my tailbone was, it was the only thing that really hurt after my surgery because everything else was numbed from the pain ball (best thing ever made) OH I definitely feel better having burnt that one in the fire as well.  THANKS FOR LETTIN ME VENT

Divine, I absolutely agree with those business cards!!!!!! I have a stack of them, and will toss mine in, too!

I had outpatient surgery last Sept. and had forgotten how upset I was about the post-op care I got, which was basically none.  I had been told that I would come out of surgery with a support bra on, which I was to bring with me, and that didn't happen, so the recovery room nurse tossed my clothes on the bed, told me to get dressed, and I was so confused and sleepy, I remember looking at the bra and wondering what the??? and how do I even put this thing on?? and the next thing I remember is being tumbled into a wheelchair, and then I woke up at home late that night. And it was supposed to be one of the "best" surgery centers.  So I completely emphasize with you, 2Nan.  Go ahead and vent and toss those folks in, too!

hey Jo, good going!  I quit smoking two years ago, as a 50th B-Day gift for myself.

I am tossing in the new Komen perfume.  Could they possibly be more out-of-touch with what we experience as cancer patients and survivors?  During chemo, I was hyper-sensitive to scent, and I no longer wear perfume because of the known and unknown chemicals.

Sandee, a real bonfire would be great except this week it's been record-breaking heat here.

Wherever in the world shall we meet up?
